Background/Aims: Liver transplantation offers the only definite cure for cirrhosis but lacking donors is problem. Stem cell therapy is attractive in this setting. In this study, we aimed to explore the safety and efficacy of ultrasound-guided percutaneous portal transplantation of peripheral blood monocyte cell (PBMC) in cirrhotic patients. Methods: A total of nine decompensated cirrhotic patients were randomized into three groups: group 1 (n = 3) was control group, group 2 (n = 3) received granulocyte-colony stimulating factor (G-CSF) mobilization for 3 days, and group 3 (n = 3) received G-CSF mobilized PBMCs by leukapheresis and PBMC transplantation through ultrasound-guided percutaneous portal vein puncture. Liver function and clinical features were evaluated. Results: At baseline, the Child-Turcotte-Pugh and the model for end-stage liver disease scores were comparable in study groups. Compared with group 1, there was a tendency to improve liver function in group 3 at 6 months after treatment. Treatment was tolerable and no complications were encountered related to the G-CSF mobilization or percutaneous portal administration of PBMCs. Imaging studies showed patent portal veins at the end of the study period. Conclusions: Autologous PBMC transplantation through ultrasound-guided percutaneous portal vein puncture could be considered as a safe alternative treatment for decompensated cirrhotic patients.
Generation of Dysfunctional Beauveria bassiana ERL1170 Transformant in Conidiogenesis

Beauveria bassiana isolates have been used in integrated pest management, but little consideration has been given to the studies on fungal gene expressions and their functions. In this work, to determine the functions of genes, B. bassiana ERL1170 was transformed by restriction enzyme-mediated integration method, where pABeG with bar gene was used as a transformation vector. Among seven hundred of transformants, morphologically different ERL1170-pABeG-#160 transformant, particularly dysfunctional in conidiogenesis. The transformant had yellow hyphal growth on fourth strength Sabouraud dextrose agar (SDA/4) and produced very small amount of conidia (<1.0×105 conidia/cm2 agar) in 7 days, whereas wild type had white mycelial growth and significantly greater conidia (3.6×106 conidia/cm2 agar). Additionally under microscopic observation, hyphae of #160 seemed like indian club, compared to the straight forms of wild type hyphae. The next work is figure out possible genes contributing the conidiogenesis of B. bassiana.

Primary malignant melanoma of the vagina are believed to arise from melanocytes which may be present in the epithelium of the vagina. These tumors are very rare and comprise less than 0.5% of all vaginal malignancies, which are the worst prognosis compared to other malignant vaginal neoplasms. We present a case of primary malignant melanoma of the vagina with brief review of literature.
The Diagnostic Efficacy of M2BPGi for Liver Fibrosis in HCC and NAFLD Patients

Aims: Mac-2 binding protein glycan isomer (M2BPGi) is recently identified as a useful non-invasive biomarker for the diagnosis of liver fibrosis. This study aimed to evaluate the diagnostic efficacy of serum M2BPGi for liver fibrosis in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) patients. Methods: M2BPGi levels were analyzed in serum samples collected from biopsy-proven HCC (n=135) and NAFLD (n=113) patients. Fibrosis was graded histopathologically in non-tumorous portion of HCC and NAFLD. Serum M2BPGi levels were determined with an automated immunoassay analyzer. Spearman’s correlation and Kruskal-Wallis test were used to evaluate the correlation and comparison among groups. Diagnostic efficacy for fibrosis was evaluated by the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC). Results: Median levels (range) of M2BPGi in HCC and NAFLD patients were 1.21 (0.12-14.33) cut-off index (COI) and 0.59 (0.13-5.90) COI, respectively. In HCC patients, fibrosis stages were 0 (n=22), 1 (n=10), 2 (n=11), 3 (n=16), and 4 (n=76). The M2BPGi levels showed a significant positive correlation (r= 0.436, P<0.001) with fibrosis grade in HCC patients and yielded the lower AUC value, 0.787 (P< 0.001) than transient elastography (TE), AUC value, 0.806 (P=0.030) to predict advanced fibrosis (F >2). In NAFLD patients, fibrosis stages were 0 (n=22), 1 (n=34), 2 (n=28), 3 (n=19), and 4 (n=10). The M2BPGi levels showed a significant positive correlation (r=0.578, P<0.001) with fibrosis grade in NAFLD patients and yielded the higher AUC value, 0.824(P< 0.001) than TE, AUC value, 0.637(P=0.035) to predict advanced fibrosis (F >2). Conclusions: Serum M2BPGi can be a useful non-invasive biomarker for predicting fibrosis in HCC and especially in NAFLD patients.

<P>Enhancing the device performance of organic memory devices while providing high optical transparency and mechanical flexibility requires an optimized combination of functional materials and smart device architecture design. However, it remains a great challenge to realize fully functional transparent and mechanically durable nonvolatile memory because of the limitations of conventional rigid, opaque metal electrodes. Here, we demonstrate ferroelectric nonvolatile memory devices that use graphene electrodes as the epitaxial growth substrate for crystalline poly(vinylidene fluoride-trifluoroethylene) (PVDF-TrFE) polymer. The strong crystallographic interaction between PVDF-TrFE and graphene results in the orientation of the crystals with distinct symmetry, which is favorable for polarization switching upon the electric field. The epitaxial growth of PVDF-TrFE on a graphene layer thus provides excellent ferroelectric performance with high remnant polarization in metal/ferroelectric polymer/metal devices. Furthermore, a fully transparent and flexible array of ferroelectric field effect transistors was successfully realized by adopting transparent poly[bis(4-phenyl)(2,4,6-trimethylphenyl)amine] semi-conducting polymer.</P>
다결정 실리콘 박막 트랜지스터를 이용한 $0.5{\mu}m$ 급 SONOS 플래시 메모리 소자의 개발 및 최적화

본 연구에서는 $0.5{\mu}m$ 급 다결정 실리콘 박막 트랜지스터를 제작하고 이를 최적화 했다. 실험 결과, 비정질 실리콘을 증착 후 저온 어닐링을 통해 보다 큰 grain 크기를 가지는 active 영역을 형성하는 것이 소자의 SS(Subthreshold Swing), DIBL(Drain Induced Barrier Lowering), 그리고 on-current의 성능 향상을 가져온다는 것을 확인 할 수 있었다. 또한 이를 바탕으로 SONOS 플래시 메모리를 제작하였으며 그 특성을 분석했다. 게이트로부터 전자의 back tunneling 현상을 억제함과 동시에 제작한 소자가 원활한 program/erase 동작을 하기 위해서는 O/N/O 두께의 최적화가 필요하다. 따라서 시뮬레이션을 통해 이를 분석하고 O/N/O 두께를 최적화 하여 SONOS 플래시 메모리의 특성을 개선하였다. 제작한 소자는 2.24 V의 threshold voltage($V_{th}$) memory window를 보였으며 메모리 동작을 잘 하는 것을 확인 할 수 있었다. In this paper, a poly-Si thin film transistor with ${\sim}0.5{\mu}m$ gate length was fabricated and its electrical characteristics are optimized. From the results, it was verified that making active region with larger grain size using low temperature annealing is an efficient way to enhance the subthreshold swing, drain-induced barrier lowering and on-current characteristics. A SONOS flash memory was fabricated using this poly-Si channel process and its performances are analyzed. It was necessary to optimize O/N/O thickness for the reduction of electron back tunneling and the enhancement of its memory operation. The optimized device showed 2.24 V of threshold voltage memory windows which coincided with a well operating flash memory.
