Heat-shocked staphylococci at 60℃ were inoculated on media containing varying concentrations of sodium chloride, and the effect of sodium chloride on the growth of these organisms was studied with the following results. 1. Heat-shocked staphylococci for 16 to 24 minutes formed small numbers of colonies on nutrient agar, but those shocked for 26 minutes formed no or only negligible numbers of colonies. 2. The colony formation on brain heart infusion agar was almost the same as that on nutrient agar. 3. The time of heat shock for acriflavine-resistant staphylococci was prolonged than that of sensitive strains in the colony formation, but lysozyme-resistant strains showed almost the same attitude with the sensitive strains. 4. The time of heat shock to form colony on media was shortened as the concentration of sodium chloride increase.

In Dae Jeon Eul-Ji General Hospital, activated since 1581, 54 patients with Korean Hemorrhagic Fever Who were all positive for Korea antigen were observed from January, 1981 to December, 1984. Epidemiology, clinical features, laboratory findings, complications and clinical course in Korean Hemorrhagic Fever were analyzed. The results were as follows: 1. The most prevalent area was OK-Chun Kun. 2. The peak incidence of age was fifth decade and male to female ratio was 2:1. 3. The peak incidence was November to December. 4. The most frequent symptomes were epigastric pain, nausea and vomiting and followed by hemsturia. 5. Conservative treatment was done and hemodialysis was performed in 19 patients without death.

Recently symbiotic and environmentally friendly architectures have been considered to be very important as the interest has been gathered on environmental problems on the earth and to be comfortable environment corresponding various desires of peoples residing, For the architecture, it has to be preceded to understand regional climatic characteristics correctly. For the purpose, long term weather data on the broad area are necessary but in Korea weather data can be collected from only 69 stations using architecturally(plan, climate characteristics analysis) of 470 stations. Therefore, in this paper the climate zone is established using the AWS(Automatic Weather System) weather data of 43 stations and the data of 11 meterological observatories and weather stations in Pusan-Kyeongnam area.

Reclamation area has a characteristic nature surroundings than a town-region or a inland area. It has a adverse conditions; low temperature, gale, much sunshine, moistured salt; at climate than inland area. In case propelling development with examining enough topography and climate characteristics of Water Front, climatic environment would grow worth. And it would lead to a rise of energy and maintenance expenses by calculating inaccurate capacity of installed equipments and by occurrence of defects of equipments. On this study, final object is selecting a friendly environment facility system and establishing a accurate energy supply and demand program in grasp of climate characteristic on reclaiming and developing in Busan Newport Area. So we drew up it based on AWS(Automatic Weather System) measure data and standard climate data in Busan Newport Area.
마늘의 Candida sp. 에 對한 抗菌作用에 關해서

In the previous communication, the growth inhibitory action of garlic on C. albicans was reported and discussed about the candida distribution of Korean people. In the present study, the inhibitory and lethal effects of garlic on candida sp. were studied further detail and the resistance of oral candida sp. isolated from various age groups, to garlic was examined. (1) The growth inhibitory and lethal concentration of garlic juice on standard candida sp. were differ according to the species, however 0.1-0.2% concentraion of garlic juice in Sabouraud media inhibit the growth and 0.6-1.2% concertration of garlic juice exhibit a lethal effect on cardida sp. within 12 hours. (2) The resistance formation or a difference of resistance level of the isolated strain from various age group were not found and candida sp. seems to be not form resistance easily against garlic.

Standardized forecasting method of Grapholita molesta and Carposina sasakii at the peach orchard

Grapholita molesta occur four times a year and Carposina sasakii occur twice a year, and both pests do damage on stone fruits such as peach, apple, plum, apricot, etc. Grapholita molesta is worldwide distributed in temperate and subtropical areas including South Korea. But, Carposina sasakii distributed in South Korea, Japan, China and Asia, and has been managed as an important import quarantine pest by the authorities of United States, Canada and Taiwan. Forecasting of both pests in Korea is currently done through the investigation of 1,000 fruits per 10 trees (100 fruits / tree) in designated peach orchard. However, this method is very difficult to observe the pest by bagging of peach and require too much time and labor. Therefore, we tried to carry out a new forecasting method by using of sex pheromone traps for newly standardized method as an alternative. Using sex pheromone trap, attractiveness of G. molesta was proved to be 2.5 > 1.5 > 0.5 m by the height and the border => outside > center by the position. Attractiveness of C. sasakii made no difference in height, but, more trapped at the center and border than outside in position at peach orchard.

Singlet oxygen (^1O_2) is a highly reactive form of molecular oxygen that may harm living systems by oxidizing critical cellular macromolecules. The oxyR gene product regulates the expression of the enzymes and proteins that are needed for cellular protection against oxidative stress. In this study, the role of oxyR in cellular defense against a singlet oxygen was investigated using Escherichia coli oxyR mutant strains. Upon exposure to methylene blue and visible light, which generates singlet oxygen, the oxyR overexpression mutant was much more resistant to singlet oxygen-mediated cellular damage when compared to the oxyR deletion mutant in regard to growth kinetics, viability and protein oxidation. Induction and inactivation of major antioxidant enzymes, such as superoxide dismutase and catalase, were observed after their exposure to a singlet oxygen generating system in both oxyR strains. However, the oxyR overexpression mutant maintained significantly higher activities of antioxidant enzymes than did the oxyR deletion mutant. These results suggest that the oxyR regulon plays an important protective role in singlet oxygen-mediated cellular damage, presumably through the protection of antioxidant enzymes.

$\alpha$-Phenyl-N-t-butylnitrone (PBN) is one of the most widely used spin-trapping compounds for investigating the existence of free radicals in biological systems. Recently, there has been considerable interest in the antioxidant nature of PBN on degenerative diseases, presumably related to oxidative stress. In the present study, the protective effect of PBN on the HepG2 cell line under oxidative stress was investigated. When the HepG2 cells were exposed to oxidant, such as hydrogen peroxide, menadione, or ethanol, the protective role of PBN was manifested as a reduction in trypan blue uptake and a decrease in the endogenous production of oxidants, as measured by the oxidation of 2',7'-dichlorodihydrofluorescin. The modulation of activity of major antioxidant enzymes, such as superoxide dismutase and catalase, was not significantly different either in the presence or in the absence of PBN. This indicates that PBN acts as a direct scavenger of reactive oxygen species.
