        In order to obtain an useful information for health management and biological monitoring of lead exposed workers, Authors tried to investigate air lead level and the lead exposed level of workers in lead industry according to occupational category. The subjects in our study were 2074 workers in 7 lead-using industries, and study subjects were divided into 4 occupational categories such as storage battery industry (type 1), primary smelting industry (type 2), secondary smelting industry (type 3) and litharge making industry (type 4). Blood zincprotoporphyrin concentration (ZPP), blood lead concentration (PbB) and urinary δ -aminolevulinic acid (ALAU), hemoglobin (Hb), hematocrit (Hct) were selected as the indices of lead exposure. Personal variables such as age, work duration were also collected. The results were as follows. 1. The geometric mean air lead in 9 lead-using industry was 0.1133±4.3120 ㎎/㎥, and that in type 1, 2, 3 and 4 was 0.1038±3.4952 ㎎/㎥, 0.0429±3.4329 ㎎/㎥, 0.1877±2.5123 ㎎/㎥ and 0.9961±5.2910 ㎎/㎥, respectively. 2. The mean ZPP in 9 lead-using industry was 53.1±28.0 ㎍/㎗, and that in type 1, 2, 3 and 4 was 52.0±24.8 ㎍/㎗, 48.0±16.4 ㎍/㎗, 109.8±85.6 ㎍/㎗ and 74.3±37.8 ㎍/㎗, respectively. There was significant difference in ZPP according to occupational category (P<0.01). The percents of lead workers whose ZPP were above 100 ㎍/㎗ in type 1, 2, 3 and 4 were 4.0%, 1.7%, 34.3% and 21.6%, respectively. 3. The mean PbB in lead-using industry was 26.0±11.2 ㎍/㎗, and that in type 1, 2, 3 and 4 was 25.3±11.1 ㎍/㎗, 26.7±8.8 ㎍/㎗, 50.3±15.2 ㎍/㎗ and 36.4±11.0 ㎍/㎗, respectively. There was significant difference in PbB according to occupational category (P<0.01). The percents of lead workers whose PbB were above 40 ㎍/㎗ in type 1, 2, 3 and 4 were 10.4%, 7.7% 71.9% and 43.2%, respectively. 4. While the correlation of Hb corrected PbB with ZPP was higher than non corrected PbB, the correlation of log-transformed ZPP with PbB was higher than non corrected ZPP. 5. Simple linear regressions of PbB and corrected PbB as independent variable with ZPP, log-transformed ZPP and ALAU as dependent variable were statistically significant (P0.01). Coefficient of determination of corrected PbB with other variables was higher than non corrected PbB. As the result of this study, it was suggested that reconsideration of environmental and biological monitoring program was highly recommended for secondary smelting and litharge making industry.

      • 연폭로 근로자들의 연폭로 수준에 따른 혈압변화에 관한 연구

        To evaluate the blood pressure change of lead workers by lead exposure level, authors analyzed 1,009 lead workers. Study variables were systolic and diastolic blood pressure, smoking and drinking habit, age, work duration, blood lead concentration(PbB), ZPP, hemoglobin, BMI and cholesterol. The results were obtained as follow; 1. Means of systolic and diastolic blood pressure were 126.93mmHg and 74.08mmHg. Systolic pressures were significantly higher in males and drinkers than in females and non-drinkers. Blood pressure was increased as age and work duration were increased. 2. Means of PbB and ZPP were 26.79㎍/㎗, 61.38㎍/㎗ respectively. Male workers' PbB was higher than female workers', and ZPP was contrary. PbB and ZPP were increased as age and work duration were increased. Smokers' and drinkers' PbB were not different from nonsmokers' and nondrinkers' but ZPP were lower. 3. As PbB was increased, systolic pressure was increased, but diastolic pressure was not increased. 4. There were no significant increase in both systolic and diastolic pressure by increase of ZPP. 5. In pearson's correlation analysis, systolic pressure was correlate with BMI(R^(2)=0.2618), hemoglobin (R^(2)=0.1794), cholesterol(R^(2)=0.14334), PbB(R^(2)=0.12616) and alcohol consumption per week(R^(2)=0.10925). 6. In pearson's correlation analysis, diastolic pressure was correlate with BMI(r-square : 0.25037), age, hemoglobin, cholesterol and work duration, but not correlate with PbB. 7. Forward multiple regression analysis using systolic pressure as dependent variable revealed that BMI, PbB hemoglobin and cholesterol in order were significantly contributed to dependent variable. 8. Forward multiple regression analysis using diastolic pressure as dependent variable revealed that BMI, age, hemoglobin, smoking and cholesterol in order were significantly contributed to dependent variable.

        구강보건교육에 의한 초등학교 학생의 구강보건 지식도와 구강위생관리능력의 변화

        The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of systemic oral health education on the improvement of knowledge levels and patient hygiene performance(PHP) for elementary school students. The randomly selected 1st and 5th grade students in a public elementary school of Taegu city were divided by education group(118 students) and non-education group(122 students). The oral health education lesson was systematically held on the education group once a month for 4 months. The questionnaire queried all the subjects about their knowledge and attitudes before and after oral health education, and PHP was also tested at the same time. Corresponding p-values were significantly considered at values less than 0.05. The obtained results were as follows: Due to the oral health education lesson, the education group of both 1st and 5th grade students came to have a higher knowledge level than the non-education group. There was high improvement of items such as toothbrushing time, toothbrushing method, cause of dental caries, treatment after tooth damage, and tongue-brushing. Therefore, these items should be educated to all the elementary school students. By increasing the knowledge level of oral health after education, the PHP index in the education group was significantly decreased in comparison to the non-education group and hence the capability of oral health education system for elementary school students can improve the knowledge level and capability of oral health management. Further study will be required to develop an easy and acceptable systemic oral health education program for elementary schools.

      • 國民學校 美術敎育에서 디자인 領域에서 指導現況과 改善에 關한 硏究

        This study aims at suggesting the direction for design education by grasping the actual condition of the actual educational spot that is being taught, analyzing it and finding out the improving direction for the purpose of the correct direction and development in the course of study of the design area of art in the elementary school of our country. For this purpose this study looked into design education seen through the conception of design, a course of study, the educational process of elementary school as the theoretical background of design education and went through the improving direction of the study course of design. And this study grasped the actual education condition in the design area of art course being carried into effect by existing curriculum as the investigative research and compiled the reaction intended for the 300 elementary school teachers in active service in charge of art education on the spot in Seoul city by making up the questionnaires to extract various problems from the actual condition of the existing art education. Then this study analyzed them by converting the collected data into anto percentage, the results can be summarized as follows. 1.The education on design in accordance with the development of industry is allowed to renew and develop into fresh education, and the stage for the education on design harmonized on the basis of the education for the whole man should be set. 2.Most teachers have interests in and love art subject, but instruct the painting field of various areas of art subject very much, and see school children's parents regard the painting field as important. Accordingly, it is desirable that teacher should instruct children evenly by field and come to manufacture and utilize many reference and slide material at the time of design-learning. 3.As school children imitate references works and their friend’s works very much, teachers of humanity and creativity while children themselves plan and produce. Then teachers have low understanding of educational objective concerning the area of design in the existing curriculum and have a poor ability to instruct school children. Therefore, it is recessary to instruct children by going hand in hand with theory and practice as the training for art instructions of teacher, and the guiding (instructional) book for an art teacher should be revised and reorganized for the direction that can pertain to rich art material illustrations and the detailed process of manufacture.

      • 납 폭로 근로자에서 δ-aminolevulinic acid dehydratase 유전형질이 zinc protoporphyrin 및 δ-aminolevulinic acid에 미치는 영향

        The inhibition of δ-aminolevulinic acid dehydratase (ALAD) in the heme synthetic pathway results in increased protophoryphyrin (ZPP) and δ-aminolevulinic acid (ALA) and is responsible for some of toxicological effects of lead. This enzyme is coded by the ALAD gene containing 2 co-dominant alleles. The polymorphisms of ALAD gene may be related to differential effects of lead on ZPP and ALA, ALAD genotype was measured in 975 Korean male lead workers, of whom 897 were homozygous for ALAD1 (ALAD 1-1 genotype) and 96 were heterozygous for ALAD2 (ALAD 1-2 genotype). Blood lead in subjects with ALAD1 was significantly higher than those with ALAD2 (p = 0.01). No difference between ALAD genotypes was found for age, exposure duration, ZPP, ALA, hemoglobin, hematocrit, body mass index, tobacco and alcohol use. After adjustment for possible confounders, ALA and ZPP became significantly elevated in ALAD1 subjects (p = 0.004 and 0.055, respectively). This result suggests that ALAD1 subjects may be more susceptible to the hematotoxicologic effects of lead than ALAD2 subjects.

      • 초등학교 교사들의 직무스트레스와 건강 수준

        Objective : The purpose of this study was to assess the effect of job strain on stress and health status among elementary school teachers. Methods and Material : The subjects in this study were 300 teachers who were selected from among 588 teachers in 13 out of 42 elementary schools in the city of Gimhae. Through the questionnaire, demographic characteristics, Karasek's Job Content Questionnaire(JCQ) and the Psychosocial Well-being Index (PWI) to assess their occupational characteristics and psychosocial stress level were surveyed. Medical checkup results of them were adopted to measure their Health status. Results : 24.9 percent of the general teachers were low strain group, and 16.3 percent of them were high strain group. In the senior teachers, 19.7 percent belonged to a low strain group and 21.3 percent belonged to a high strain group. In regard to health status, more senior teachers than junior teachers suffered from obesity(24.6%) and diabetes(11.5%) (p<0.O5), and they also were higher in DBP(p<0.057), total cholesterol(p=0.039) and blood sugar level(p=0.000), the low strain group perceived more social support(p=0.000), and the high strain group felt bigger physical overload(p=0.000). Concerning psychosocial stress, the low strain group was more aware of teacher social role and put more confidence in themselves(p=0.004). The high strain group was more depressed(p=0.001), but no difference was detected in health status. The health status difference between the high strain and low strain groups was significant in depression of psychosocial stress(OR=3.823, 95%CI=1.584-9.224). Conclusion : The senior teachers group was more morbid to obesity, diabetes and hyperlipidemia, which implies that some measure should be studied to help senior teachers manage those diseases properly. The high strain group suffered more from physical overload and was high 'Social support'. Therefore it's required for high strain group to be given more support from colleagues and supervisors, and a stress management program should be implemented to reduce their psychosocial stress.

      • 乳酸菌에 의한 돼지설사 원인균의 生育沮害

        E. coli A_2 and G_7 occurring bacterial diarrhea of pigs were inoculated with 10^5/ml into thioglycollate medium without indicator-135C, and then Str. faecium and Str. faecalis var. liquefaciens were inoculated with 10^5/ml and 10^7/ml into previous inoculated samples of E. coli A_2 and G_7. Inoculated samples cultured at 37℃, were tested to determine changes in viable numbers of organisms and pH. The experimental results are summerized as follows: 1. In the mixed culture medium of 10^5/ml E. coli and 10^5/ml Streptococci, E. coli decreased after 8 hours from incubation, and finally decreased to 10^1/ml after 48 hours. 2. In the mixed culture medium of 10^5/ml E. coli and 10^7/ml Streptococci, E. coli drastically decreased, were not disappeared after 36 hours. 3. The pH value of the pure culture of E. coli was 5.30 and in the mixed culture of E. coli and Streptococci the pH value was 4.49-4.80 after 8 hours from incubation.
