Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the significance of non-mass enhancement (NME) findings on preoperative breast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) when invasive breast cancer patients with single lesions underwent breast-conserving surgery (BCS). Methods: We reviewed the preoperative MRI findings of 252 patients who underwent BCS from January 2014 to September 2016. Based on the MRI findings, we divided the patients into two groups, those who did and did not have NME, and we retrospectively analyzed the clinical outcomes of the two groups. Results: The NME group had 57 patients, and the no-NME group had 195 patients. The incidence of in situ lesions was higher in the NME group than in the no-NME group (p<0.001). Additionally, the positive resection margin rate on frozen biopsy was higher in the NME group than in the no-NME group (p=0.002). Conclusion: When preoperative MRI had NME findings, in situ lesions were more likely to accompany invasive breast cancer lesions, and the positive resection margin rate for frozen biopsy during BCS was high. Therefore, in these cases, the lesion should be excised more widely when BCS is performed, or frozen biopsy for resection margin during BCS should be performed if possible.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Although several recent studies have reported the anti-cancer effects of extracts or components of Citrus unshiu peel, which has been used for various purposes in traditional medicine, the molecular mechanisms for their effects remain unclear. In the present study, the anti-cancer activity of a water-soluble extract of C. unshiu peel (WECU) in MDA-MB-231 human breast carcinoma cells at the level of apoptosis induction was investigated. MATERIALS/METHODS: Cytotoxicity was evaluated using the MTT assay. Apoptosis was detected using DAPI staining and flow cytometry analyses. Mitochondrial membrane potential, reactive oxygen species (ROS) assay, caspase activity and Western blotting were used to confirm the basis of apoptosis. RESULTS: The results indicated that WECU-induced apoptosis was related to the activation of caspase-8, and -9, representative initiator caspases of extrinsic and intrinsic apoptosis pathways, respectively, and caspase-3 accompanied by proteolytic degradation of poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase and down-regulation of the inhibitors of apoptosis protein family members. WECU also increased the pro-apoptotic BAX to anti-apoptotic BCL-2 ratio, loss of mitochondrial membrane potential and cytochrome c release from mitochondria to cytoplasm. Furthermore, WECU provoked the generation of ROS, but the reduction of cell viability and induction of apoptosis by WECU were prevented when ROS production was blocked by antioxidant N-acetyl cysteine. CONCLUSIONS: These results suggest that WECU suppressed proliferation of MDA-MB-231 cells by activating extrinsic and intrinsic apoptosis pathways in a ROS-dependent manner.

In this paper, an experimental design of an experimental study was carried out to evaluate the pullout performance of an cast-in-place anchor. Then, an analytical examination of the planned experiment was carried out. The size of the specimen was determined by reference to the installation depth of the anchor. The test specimens were checked for bending cracks according to design standards. The numerical analysis model was constructed according to the final test plan, and the result of the analysis was that the crack occurred at the center of the section. Therefore, the ultimate specimen which cone fracture of concrete was induced by modeling by reinforcing steel reinforcement on the outside of specimen was planned.

고려시대 이후 800여년 가까이 정설(正說)로 받아들여지던 지눌의 돈오점수(頓悟漸修) 사상은 20세기 후반 성철의 돈오돈수(頓悟頓修) 사상에 의하여 이설(異說)로 규정된다. 물론 성철의 비판으로 인하여 지눌의 사상이 폐기되거나 이설로 확정된 것은 아니며 ‘돈오점수’와 ‘돈오돈수’ 사이의 논쟁은 현재에도 진행되고 있다. 지눌의 사상에 대하여 성철이 가하는 비판의 핵심은 ‘점수’를 요청한다는 점에 있어서 지눌의 ‘돈오’는 선불교에서 의미하는 완전한 수준의 깨달음이 아니라는 것이다. 이 논문은 질성적 사고에 관한 듀이의 논의를 토대로 ‘돈오’의 성격을 규명하며 그것을 토대로 ‘점수’와의 관계를 설명한다. 성철은 돈오에 뒤이어 점수가 이어진다는 점을 들어서 지눌의 돈오가 완전한 깨달음이 아니라고 주장하지만 이 논문을 통해서 검토된 바로는 돈오가 점수를 요청하는 것이 아니라 오히려 점수가 돈오를 요청하며, 돈오는 점수를 촉발시키고 그 방향을 이끌어간다는 측면에서 ‘참된 나’를 이루어가는 과정에 있어서 매우 결정적인 역할을 수행한다. Chinul’s theory of ‘sudden enlightenment and gradual cultivation’, which was accepted as an orthodoxy for nearly 800 years since the Koryŏ Dynasty, was defined as a heresy by Seong-cheol’s theory of ‘sudden enlightenment and sudden cultivation’ in the late 20th century. Of course, the criticism of Seong-cheol did not mean that Chinul’s theory was abolished or confirmed as a heresy, and the debate between ‘sudden’ and ‘gradual’ is still ongoing. The core of Seong-cheol s criticism on Chinul s theory is that Chinul s ‘sudden enlightenment’ is not a complete level of enlightenment in Zen Buddhism in that it requires ‘gradual cultivation’. Based on Dewey’s discussion of qualitative thought, this paper examines the character of ‘sudden enlightenment’ and investigates the relationship with ‘gradual cultivation’. Seong-cheol argues that Chinul’s ‘sudden enlightenment’ is not a complete enlightenment in that the ‘gradual cultivation’ follows it. However, according to the analysis in this paper, ‘sudden enlightenment’ does not require ‘gradual cultivation’, but rather ‘gradual cultivation’ does depend on the ‘sudden enlightenment’. ‘Sudden enlightenment’ plays a very decisive role in the process of achieving ‘the true self’ in terms of triggering and leading the ‘gradual cultivation’.

Concrete structures are exposed to complex degradation environments depending on their environmental characteristics. The concrete members of bridges are exposed to water and salt by rivers and oceans, and there is always a possibility of freezing and thawing damage in the upper and lower part of the bridge due to the continuous heat and heavy snow in summer and winter. In this study, a freeze-thaw test method which indirectly evaluates the strength reduction of concrete according to the repeated cycle of freezing and thawing was proposed, and the strength reduction rate was measured by using the concrete specimen. As a result, the concrete strength was reduced by 20% in freeze-thaw test method. In the future, it can be used as a basic data of the study on strength of each cycles.
