Fractionation of DNases Specific to Haemonchus contortus Intestine by Phenyl Sepharose Column

Multiple DNases were identified from Haemonchus contortus intestine based on previous studies. The DNases detected at 34, 36 and 38.5 kDa had diverse characteristics. Some of them had characteristics similar to those of mammalians and others had unusual characteristics. This study was carried out to fractionate worm intestinal DNases from other proteins using phenyl Sepharose chromatographic methods. All DNases detected from Haemonchus contortus intestine were fractionated in the flowthrough of phenyl Sepharose, indicating the worm DNases are hydrophilic. The DNases were enriched five-fold in the flowthrough fraction while additional steps are required for isolation of the worm DNases. Thus, fractionation with phenyl Sepharose could be used as a good initial step to enrich and separate DNases from other proteins.
Review: Surface Texturing Methods for Solar Cell Efficiency Enhancement

Demand for renewable energy continually increases due to environmental pollution and resource depletion caused by the increased use of fossil fuels. Among the various renewable energies, the solar cell developed by numerous researchers has been widely used because of its advantages, including ease of use and low maintenance cost. However, problems, such as efficiency, waste treatment, and light pollution, also raise concerns. The largest drawback of solar cell has been the low energy conversion efficiency arising from optical loss. To improve solar cell efficiency, numerous studies have been conducted, and thus, various solutions were developed in recent decades. In this review, the principle and application of surface texturization methods utilizing micro/nano scale structure on the surfaces of solar cells are elaborated in detail. These texturized surfaces with unique optical properties can be implemented as anti-reflective or light-trapping interfaces to reduce optical loss and thus enhance the efficiency of solar cells. Optical properties of texturized surfaces and applied examples are introduced in this review.
Medical Litigations Associated with Cataract Surgery in Korea

<P><B>Background</B></P><P>To analyze the results of court rulings about medical litigations related to cataract surgery in Korea.</P><P><B>Methods</B></P><P>We collected 50 anonymized judgements regarding cataract surgery between 2000 and 2016 and analyzed the reasons for the medical litigations, the court rulings, the reasons for compensation, and the amount claimed and finally awarded.</P><P><B>Results</B></P><P>Forty-eight litigations (96%) resulted from errors in treatment, and the reasons were as follows: endophthalmitis, dissatisfaction of visual outcome or ocular discomfort, bullous keratopathy or corneal opacity, retinal detachment, glaucoma or vitreous hemorrhage due to the progression of an underlying diabetic retinopathy, and others in order. Two litigations (4%) arose due to errors in diagnosis. Among the 50 final cases, 21 litigations (42%) were decided in favor of the plaintiff, and 29 litigations (58%) were decided against the plaintiff and dismissed. Ten cases awarded damages to the plaintiffs because of a violation of duty of care, and 11 cases awarded damages due to a violation of informed consent. When comparing cases with errors in diagnosis to cases with errors in treatment, there was no significant difference in the relative risk of a defendant's verdict (<I>P</I> = 0.503). The total amount of awarded damages was KRW 439,124,496 (USD 399,204), and the average amount was KRW 20,910,690 (USD 19,010).</P><P><B>Conclusion</B></P><P>Nearly half of the cases were decided in favor of the plaintiff due to the violation of informed consent. This study's results will be helpful in understanding the results of medical litigations regarding cataract surgery and reducing future lawsuits.</P>

Interrupted blood flow diminishes the concentration of oxygen in tissues. Hypoxia first appears in the region distal to the capillaries and grows throughout the entire t issue. However, the time-wise evolution of hypoxic area is diverse when some of capillaries are blocked in a multi-capillary domain with different oxygen squirt. The process of the development of hypoxia through time course is analyzed mathematically in the domain. Each source in steady state is controlled by a time sensitive function to simulate the occlusion.
Can Coffee Shops That Have Become the Red Ocean Win with ESG?

Purpose: This study aims to investigate the relationship between ESG activities (Environment, Social, Governance) of coffee shops and their brand image, purchase intention. Research design, data and methodology: To test the hypothesis, a survey was conducted for about one month from May to June, 2021, and a total of 311 people responded to the survey, and the responses from 311 copies were used for the analysis. Validity and reliability analysis were performed, and the relationship between latent variables was empirically analyzed using the structural equation modelling. Results: The results of the study are as follows. First, among the ESG activities of coffee shops, the environmental and social sectors had a significant positive (+) effect on the brand image, but the governance aspect showed no significant effect on the brand image. Second, it was found that the symbolic image and the empirical image had a significant positive (+) effect on the purchase intention, but the functional image did not have a significant effect on the purchase intention. Conclusions: The results of this study suggest that as the number of coffee shops and the heated competition are increasing, it is possible to build a differentiated brand image through ESG activities rather than relying on the functions and services of competing products.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The role of amine groups in the phase separation of thermoresponsive poly(2-dialkylaminoethyl methacrylate)s with dimethyl-, diethyl-, and diisopropylaminoethyl substituents has been studied by atomistic molecular dynamics simulations. The polymer chains present a more compact conformation at higher temperatures, losing contact with the water molecules. In the vicinity of the amine groups, the exclusion of water molecules increases with the increasing hydrophobicity of the amine moieties above the lower critical solution temperature. In particular, the potential of mean force results suggest that the formation of hydrogen bonding between the amine groups and water molecules involves more entropic contributions at higher temperatures in the cases of the diethylaminoethyl and diisopropylaminoethyl groups. DNA topoisomerase I was prepared from human term placenta and the effects of phosphorylation/dephosphorylation to the enzyme activity have been investigated. hosphorylation of the enzyme by protein kinase'A or casein kinase II did not affect the activity of DNA topoisomerase I. But dephosphorylation of the enzyme by calf intestinal alkaline phosphatase decreased the DNA topoisomerase I activity. The inhibitory effects of camptothecin or 10-OH-camptothecin on the enzyme were not related to dephosphorylation of the enzyme. These results suggest that DNA topoisomerase I from human term placenta present in forms of phosphorylated, and regulation of the enzyme activity is related with phosphorylation/dephosphorylation of the enzyme.
