We measured the degree of macrodispersion of the various single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) using UV-VIS-NIR absorption spectroscopy. CNTs were dispersed with SDS of 2 wt % in deionized water using the homogenizer and then were further centrifugated at 6000 g for 10 min. The degree of macrodispersion, expressed by Dm(λ)=Aa(λ)/Ab(λ)*100 (%), where λ is the wavelength and Aa(λ) and Ab(λ) are the absorbance of the sample after and before centrifugation, respectively. In the case of MWCNTs, we evaluated the degree of macrodispersion by the average degree of macrodispersion (Dm(λ)) between 1000 and 1200 nm. The degree of macrodispersion of SWCNTs was evaluated at the wavelength in which van Hove singularity-related transition regions were excluded, i.e., the range was chosen between E11S and E22S peaks. We have estimated six samples with the same method. The standard deviation of each sample was lower than 5. Therefore, we presented a reliable evaluation method for the macrodispersion of CNTs for standardization.

The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship of demographic characteristics to job stress among security guards. The subjects in this study were 474 people selected by random cluster sampling from a population that consisted of private bodyguards and security guards from Seoul, Gyeonggi province and Daejeon. They gave a faithful response when a survey was conducted, and incomplete answer sheets from the others of the population were excluded. For data analysis, SPSS/PC Windows V11.0 program was utilized, and frequency analysis, t-test, one-way ANOVA and Scheffe posttest were employed. The findings of this study were as follows: First, the gender of the security guards investigated made a significant difference to their job satisfaction(p<.05). Job characteristics, compensation and organizational characteristics put higher strain on the men than on the women, and the latter group was more stressed out about their roles and interpersonal relations. Second, their age, education, years of services and monthly income made a significant difference to their job stress subvariables related to job characteristics, roles, human relations, compensation and organizational characteristics(p<01). Third, their job stress was significantly different according to their position and status(p<01). Specifically, those who had no position were under heavier pressure due to job characteristics, roles, interpersonal relations, compensation and organizational characteristics.

We reported on characteristics of the fluorescent OLED fabricated on commercial ITO/glass and BCS grown IZO/glass substrate, respectively. The amorphous IZO anode film grown by box cathode sputtering(BCS) exhibited similar electrical and optical characteristics to commercial ITO anode even though it was deposited at room temperature. In addition, the amorphous IZO anode showed higher workfunction (5.2 eV) than that of the commercial ITO anode (5.0 eV) after ozone treatment for 10 min. Furthermore, fluorescent OLED fabricated on amorphous IZO anode film showed improved current-voltage-luminance characteristics, external quantum efficiency and power efficiency en contrast with fluorescent OLED fabricated on commercial ITO anode film. It was thought that smooth surface and high workfunction of amorphous IZO anode lead to more efficient hole injection by reduction of interface barrier height between anode and organic layers.
Relationship of Ankle Dorsiflexion and Gastrocnemius Tightness and Posterior Talar Glide

It has been reported that gastrocnemius tightness and posterior talar glide are crucial factors influencing ankle dorsiflexion. However, the relationship of ankle dorsiflexion and these factors is not identified in previous studies. The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship of ankle dorsiflexion passive range of motion and gastrocnemius tightness and posterior talar glide. Twenty-five male subjects participated in this study. Bilateral weight-bearing ankle dorsiflexion passive range of motion and amount posterior talar glide of participants were measured using an inclinometer. Change in myotendinous junction of medial gastrocnemius was measured using ultrasonography to identify gastrocnemius tightness. Pearson product moment correlations were performed to examine correlations between ankle dorsiflexion passive range of motion and gastrocnemius tightness and posterior talar glide. Present findings revealed significant correlation between ankle dorsiflexion passive range of motion and gastrocnemius tightness (p=0.017, r=0.336). Also, ankle dorsiflexion passive range of motion was correlated with posterior talar glide (p=0.001, r=0.470). The present findings provide experimental evidence for factors influencing weight-bearing ankle dorsiflexion.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of squat exercises with an upper limb resistance movement on the vastus medialis oblique, vastus lateralis, and gluteus maximus. This study recruited 16 healthy men. All subjects performed squat exercises with and without upper Limb resistance movements by using elastic tubing band. Electromyography (EMG) activity of the vastus medialis oblique, vastus lateralis, and gluteus maximus was recorded using a surface EMG system during these isometric squat exercises in both experimental conditions. The different muscle activation of the vastus medialis oblique, vastus lateralis, and gluteus maximus between the squat exercises with and without the upper limb resistance movement was analyzed using a paired t-test or Wilcoxon signed rank test. Our findings showed that the vastus medialis oblique, vastus medialis oblique/vastus lateralis ratio and gluteus maximus muscle activity was significantly increased during the squat exercise with upper limb resistance movements, as compared to the squat exercise without this component (p < .05). Based on our findings, the additional upper limb resistance movement may be a useful strategy to facilitate the vastus medialis oblique and gluteus maximus muscle activation during a squat exercise.
S-536 The Effect of PTD-mediated BMP-7 on EMT in Peritoneal Mesothelial Cells

Objective:?We investigated the effect of PTD-mediated BMP-7 (tissue-regeneration polypeptide 2, TRP2) on TGF-β1-induced EMT in cultured human peritoneal mesothelial cells (HPMCs). In addition, we investigated how to deliver the drugs to peritoneum in vivo models. Design and Method:?In vitro, HPMCs were cultured in M199 media containing 5.6 mM glucose (normal glucose, NG), NG + TGF-β1 (2 ng/ml) with or without TRP2 (100 ng/ml). After 72 hours, cells were harvested. In vivo, PD rat-O-port inserted into 11 Sprague-Dawley rats, and saline (control group, n=3), 4.25 % PD solution (PD group, n=3) or 4.25 % PD solution + TRP2 (PD + TRP2 group, n=5) were infused for 4 weeks. After 4 weeks, rats were sacrificed and the peritoneal tissues were removed. E-cadherin, ZO-1, α-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA), snail, vimentin, type I collagen, and fibronectin protein expression in HPMCs and the peritoneum were estimated by western blot analysis, and fibronectin expression was evaluated by immunohistochemistry staining. PF was assessed by Masson’s trichrome (MT) staining. Results:?In vitro, protein expression of E-cadherin and ZO-1 (epithelial marker) were significantly decreased, while α-SMA, snail, vimentin (mesenchymal marker), type I collagen and fibronectin were significantly increased in TGF-β1-stimulated HPMCs compared to control group, and these changes were significantly improved by TRP2 treatment. In vivo, peritoneal EMT and PF were significantly increased in PD rats compared to control rats. The thickness of mesothelial layer and the intensity of MT staining in the peritoneum of PD rats were also significantly higher compared to control rats. These changes of the peritoneum in PD rats were significantly ameliorated by the administration of TRP2. Conclusions:?This study suggests that TRP2 directly inhibits the process of TGF-β1-induced PF via peritoneal EMT in HPMCs. In addition, TRP2 mitigates PF in PD rats. The effect of PTD-mediated recombinant protein delivery system may be a potential therapeutic strategy for prevention of PF in PD patients.
