Background: Radiation therapy in palliative cancer management leads mainly to nausea, vomiting, dyspepsia and anorexia. Several agents have been used to treat above symptoms and sings. We assessed the usefulness of continuous intravenous infusion of low-dose droperidol, compared to granisetron for the control of gastrointestinal symptoms due to radiation therapy. Method: We devided 30 patients who developed gastrointestinal symptoms after undergoing palliative radiation therapy due to metastatic bone pain in two groups. In group G(n=15), the patients were injected granisetron(3㎎) and then injected it, 3㎎ per day. In group D(n=15), the patients were injected low-dose droperidol(0.25㎎) and then infused continuously at low-dose(1㎎/day) by the disposable continuous infusion pump. Result: There were no significant differences in the patient's satisfaction, improvement of appetite and incidences of side effects between two groups. Conclusion: The continuous intravenous infusion of low-dose droperidol can substitute for serotonin-receptor antagonist for the treatment of gastrointestinal symptoms during radiation therapy for cancer patients.

Henoch-Schonlein purpura (HSP) is a small-vessel vasculitis that are predominantly observed in children, affecting their skin, joints, gut and kidneys. The renal prognosis of HS nephritis is known to be worse in adults than in children. It is defined by tissue deposition of IgA. In most HSP patients, serum complement levels are usually normal. However, some authors reported abnormalities of serum complement levels in children-onset HSP. The authors report here a rare adult-onset case of HSP combined with post-infectious glomerulonephritis, especially hypocomplementemia and subepithelial `hump`-like electron dense deposits.

To develop a clinical practice guideline for vaccination in patients with autoimmune inflammatory rheumatic disease (AIIRD), the Korean College of Rheumatology and the Korean Society of Infectious Diseases developed a clinical practice guideline according to the clinical practice guideline development manual. Since vaccination is unlikely to cause AIIRD or worsen disease activities, required vaccinations are recommended. Once patients are diagnosed with AIIRD, treatment strategies should be established and, at the same time, monitor their vaccination history. It is recommended to administer vaccines when the disease enters the stabilized stage. Administering live attenuated vaccines in patients with AIIRD who are taking immunosuppressants should be avoided. Vaccination should be considered in patients with AIIRD, prior to initiating immunosuppressants. It is recommended to administer influenza, Streptococcus pneumoniae, hepatitis A, hepatitis B, herpes zoster, measles-mumps-rubella virus, human papillomavirus, and tetanus-diphtheria-pertussis vaccines in patients with AIIRD; such patients who planned to travel are generally recommended to be vaccinated at the recommended vaccine level of healthy adults. Those who live in a household with patients with AIIRD and their caregivers should also be vaccinated at levels that are generally recommended for healthy adults.
S-590 Comparison of biologic characteristics between primary and metastatic sites in breast cancer

Background: Adjuvant therapy after surgery in breast cancer is based upon to the biologic characteristics of primary lesion. As we can see in the cell line data, the expression of estrogen receptor was significantly decreased in endocrine resistance cell lines. So the biologic characteristics of metastatic lesion after adjuvant therapy could be different with that of primary lesion. In the literature, the rate of discordance in progesterone receptor (PR) is about 30% and most of the patients have lost the biologic expression with metastasis or relapse. In this study, we tried to elucidate the change of biologic characteristics of breast cancer patients after relapse or metastasis. Methods: We reviewed medical record of relapsed/metastatic breast cancer patients who have diagnosed between 2003 and 2013. We enrolled 58 patients who have paired biopsy samples of primary site and metastatic sites and evaluated the clinical and biologic characteristics including site of relapse, site of biopsy, estrogen receptor(ER), PR, HER2 expression by immunohistochemistry or FISH and survival, retrospectively. Results: The median age of these patients is 48 years old (29~76) and the median time to re-biopsy from primary site tissue confirm was 27.5 months (0 ~265). The most common metastatic biopsied site is the chest wall and the second, third is lung and liver. The loss of ER, PR expression with metastasis was showed in 15.5 % and 13.8%, respectively. The gain of ER, PR, HER2 expression was showed in 3.4 %, 3.4 %, 5.2 %, respectively. Conclusions: Our study showed the discordance rate of 19.0 %, 17.2 %, 5.2 % in ER, PR, HER2 expression, respectively. So re-biopsy can guide the therapeutic options which might be differ to that of original breast cancer in relapsed/metastatic breast cancer.

Apoptosis, the main type of programmed cell death, plays an essential role in a variety of biological events. Whereas “classical” apoptosis is dependent on caspase activation, caspase-independent death is increasingly recognized as an alternative pathway. To develop new anticancer agents, oleifolioside A was isolated from Dendropanax morbifera Leveille and the biochemical mechanisms of oleifolioside A-induced apoptosis in HeLa cells were investigated. Exposure to oleifolioside A resulted in caspase activation and typical features of apoptosis, although cell death was not prevented by caspase inhibition. Oleifolioside A treatment induced up-regulation of Bad, loss of mitochondrial membrane potential, nuclear relocation of mitochondrial factors, apoptosis-inducing factor (AIF), endonuclease G (EndoG), and apoptosis induction. This is the first report of anticancer activity of oleifolioside A, and nuclear translocation of AIF and EndoG in oleifolioside A-treated HeLa cells might represent an alternative death signaling pathway in the absence of caspase activity.

Graphic Abstract

Compact Dual-Band Printed Quadrifilar Antennas for UHF RFID/GPS Operations
Kyoung-Sub Oh,Wang-Ik Son,Sung-Yong Cha,Moon-Que Lee,Jong-Won Yu IEEE 2011 IEEE antennas and wireless propagation letters Vol.10 No.-

This letter presents a simple and innovative method for designing and optimizing two circularly polarized printed quadrifilar antennas (PQAs). The PQAs are operated at UHF RFID (902-908 MHz) and GPS (1575 MHz) and intended for use at a portable terminal. This new antenna system comprises two PQAs concentrically arranged, but electrically isolated. Each PQA comprises four inverted-F monopoles arranged orthogonally and excited with a phase difference of 90°.
