In this study, the subsurface stress field beneath the roller by fluid film pressure working on the roller surface has been calculated by using the rectangular patch solution. Main purpose of this study in view of engineering is to prove the validity of the profiling roller presented by Koo et al. Koo et al. obtained the fluid film pressure by EHL analysis of earn-roller mechanism. To prove the advantage of this study, we compared Koo's profiling with the existing Dub-off profiling roller. To obtain the subsurface stress field created by normal force, namely, fluid film pressure, Love's solution is used.

In this study, three representative methods that can be used to predict the temperature distribution of unprotected CFT columns under standard fire were evaluated based on recent large-size testing data. Among the three methods evaluated, Koo-Lee-Ahn’s method (2013) was most versatile and provided most satisfactory predictions, with its prediction accuracy being improved as the fire exposure time increased. For the standard fire exposure of 180 min, the plastic compressive strength of unprotected square CFT columns with a width of 700 mm, 1,000 mm, and 1,400 mm was calculated to retain 39 %, 44 %, and 47 % of respective cold column strength. The reduction of the plastic compressive strength due to inelastic buckling was just moderate (about 10 %) for a slenderness of L/D = 5.0 and an effective buckling length factor of K = 1.0, and almost negligible under the same condition with K = 0.5. With adding 6 % fire reinforcement, the allowable load ratio was increased to around 0.60, thus indicating that unprotected fire design of mega CFT columns is practically feasible. The results of this study can be conveniently used when implementing the performance based fire design of unprotected CFT columns under the framework of simple calculation method.

Historically, Ewha University Medical Center roots from Boguyeogwan, which was founded by missionaries in 1887 as the first women’s hospital. Inheriting the spirit of missions, Ewha Medical Care (EMC) is an official missionary activity of Ewha Womans University that provide regular mission trips to offer medical services in underdeveloped countries. The first EMC trip was to Nepal in 1989 at the request of Nepalese Sakura Rajbhandary, a graduate of Ewha Womans University Medical School. Mission trips continued to Nepal from 1989 to 2001, and since 2003 mission fields were changed to Cambodia, Vietnam, and Uzbekistan. Since 2014, EMC has sent 3 mission teams to each countries, Cambodia, Vietnam, and Uzbekistan, every year. The final mission of EMC in the future is to establish a missionary hospital in the third world where medical service is in need as Boguyeogwan was established by missionaries to protect and save poor Korean women in the past.
