A 5-year-old Russian blue cat was referred to the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital of Chungnam National University with the history of anorexia, lethargy, weight loss(6.5 to 4.8 kg) 2 weeks ago. Abdominal ultrasonography showed the following : increase of echogenicity of liver, irregular shape of gall bladder, hyperechoic region around duodenum. Pancreatitis, cholangitis, hepatic lipidosis was diagnosed by the ultrasonography. Anti- inflammatory therapy, antibiotic therapy was administered. Abdominal ultrasonography is a efficient available diagnostic tool but serum fPL test reveals the highest sensitivity and specifity result for feline pancreatitis. SNAP fPL test is newly released that can check pancreatitis within 10 minutes by same princple of Spec fPL test used in Gastrointestinal Laboratory of Texas A & M Univerrsity.

A 4 years old, mixed male dog with a history of traffic accident was presented to the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital of Chungnam National University with tachypnea and respiratory distress. Physical examination showed that the dog was auscultated crackles sounds, dysynchronous abdominal breathing pattern, hemoptysis, hematuria, urodynia and right and left scleral congestion. Blood and blood chemical examination revealed that WBC, AST and ALT was highly elevated. Parenchymal pulmonary fluid and closed pneumothorax were observed by thoracic radiography. This case was diagnosed as pulmonary contusion. Intravenous fluid and oxygen was administered and also dexamethasone(1mg/kg, Ⅳ), furosemide(2mg/kg, Ⅳ), (ampicillin, 20mg/kg, Ⅳ) and meloxicam(0.2mg/kg, PO) were intravenously injected for 5 days. Abnormal clinical signs were disappeared after treatment.
A feasibility study of cesium removal using Rhodococcus erythropolis

The half-lives of <sup>134</sup>C<sub>3</sub>, <sup>135</sup>C<sub>3</sub>, and <sup>137</sup>C<sub>3</sub> which are radioactive waste fission-producing nuclear species, have a long half-life of 2.1 years, 2.3 million years, and 30 years, respectively. (Avery. 1995; Dekker et al. 2014) In addition, high solubility and bioavailability of monovalent cesium ions make it an important nuclear waste. Above all, cesium is easily absorbed into the organism because it is similar to the absorption system of potassium (K), which is a vital element, causing environmental pollution and destruction in the soil and seawater. Finally, It exposes humans for a long time and causes serious diseases. (the food chain), (Avery 1995; Mosquera et al. 2006; Charkraborty et al. 2007) Recently, cesium removal studies using various strains have been carried out using the biological characteristics of cesium. This study was aimed to biologically remove cesium with Rhodococcus erythropolis. These bacteria were cultured in BS (Base selective) medium at pH 7.5 for 24 h at 28 °C. The maximum uptake of Cs<sup>+</sup> on Rhodococcus erythropolis was 1564.221 and 727.196 mg/g, when the concentrations were 75 and 10 mg/L, respectively, proposing the strategy for effective and efficient way to treat radioactive waste materials using cesium-resistant bacterial as potential biosorbent.

PURPOSE: This study seeks to examine the awareness and need of home visiting physical therapy among physical therapist in Gwangju and Jeonnam province. METHODS: Survey was conducted during the continuing education on physical therapist held in Gwangju in 2015 with 297 participants. The survey questionnaire consisted of 12 questions on the characteristics of physical therapists, 8 questions regarding the awareness of home visiting physical therapy, and 7 questions on need. RESULTS: Significant differences were found regarding service period, according to categories of the inconvenience associated with commuting to/from hospitals, long-term treatment for patients, high quality treatment with intensive care, treatment at a time of patients’ choosing. The category of hospital fees reduced due to early discharge from the hospital also saw significant differences, depending on respondents’ marital status, dependent family, and service period. Providing treatment without causing discomfort to patients in front of others also saw significant differences according to physical therapist career period. Home visiting physical therapy is easier for family members to take care of patients also saw significant differences according to education and physical therapist career period. CONCLUSION: Survey indicates that physical therapist province feel the need for home visiting physical therapy in many respects. However, since as many as half of the surveyed physical therapists have only heard of home visiting physical therapy or are have no awareness of the this form of treatment, it appears that there is a need to raise awareness of home visiting physical therapy among physical therapist and introduce appropriate policies.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Nuclear receptors (NRs) are a large family of transcription factors that are involved in many fundamental biological processes. NRs are considered to have originated from a common ancestor, and are highly conserved throughout the whole animal taxa. Therefore, the genome-wide identification of <I>NR</I> genes in an animal taxon can provide insight into the evolutionary tendencies of NRs. Here, we identified all the <I>NR</I> genes in the monogonont rotifer <I>Brachionus</I> spp., which are considered an ecologically key species due to their abundance and world-wide distribution. The NR family was composed of 40, 32, 29, and 32 genes in the genomes of the rotifers <I>B</I>. <I>calyciflorus</I>, <I>B. koreanus</I>, <I>B. plicatilis</I>, and <I>B. rotundiformis</I>, respectively, which were classified into seven distinct subfamilies. The composition of each subfamily was highly conserved between species, except for <I>NR1O</I> genes, suggesting that they have undergone sporadic evolutionary processes for adaptation to their different environmental pressures. In addition, despite the dynamics of NR evolution, the significance of the conserved endocrine system, particularly for estrogen receptor (ER)-signaling, in rotifers was discussed on the basis of phylogenetic analyses. The results of this study may help provide a better understanding the evolution of NRs, and expand our knowledge of rotifer endocrine systems.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Fourty, 32, 29, and 32 <I>NR</I> genes were identified in the four rotifer <I>Brachionus</I> spp. </LI> <LI> Species-specific evolution of <I>NR1O</I> genes was identified. </LI> <LI> The evolutionary scenario of ER-signaling pathways in <I>Brachionus</I> spp. have speculated on the basis of our phylogenetic analysis. </LI> </UL> </P>

Plant growth promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) are known to confer disease resistance to plants. Bacillus sp. JS demonstrated antifungal activities against five fungal pathogens in in vitro assays. To verify whether the volatiles of Bacillus sp. JS confer disease resistance, tobacco leaves pre-treated with the volatiles were damaged by the fungal pathogen, Rhizoctonia solani and oomycete Phytophthora nicotianae. Pre-treated tobacco leaves had smaller lesion than the control plant leaves. In pathogenesis-related (PR) gene expression analysis, volatiles of Bacillus sp. JS caused the up-regulation of PR-2 encoding ${\beta}$-1,3-glucanase and acidic PR-3 encoding chitinase. Expression of acidic PR-4 encoding chitinase and acidic PR-9 encoding peroxidase increased gradually after exposure of the volatiles to Bacillus sp. JS. Basic PR-14 encoding lipid transfer protein was also increased. However, PR-1 genes, as markers of salicylic acid (SA) induced resistance, were not expressed. These results suggested that the volatiles of Bacillus sp. JS confer disease resistance against fungal and oomycete pathogens through PR genes expression.
