        The Modularity of Morphosyntax: Mentally Retarded Children’s Production of Conjugated Predicates in Korean

        In this paper, we investigate whether mentally retarded (=MR) Korean children’s production of conjugated predicates follows the same generalization that has been reported for normal children’s language performance. For this, we elicited narratives from 15 MR children, and analyzed their production of conjugated predicates. We cross-classified the conjugation patterns in terms of four categorical variables: morphological class, (morpho-)syntactic conjugation, semantic class, and age. Results from the log-linear regression analysis show that MR children’s use of predicate conjugation is constrained by the same generalization that determines the distribution of normal children’s conjugation patterns. That is, both MR and normal children’s production of conjugated predicates is nicely predicted by the interaction between the morphological and semantic classes of each predicate, and by the main effect of conjugation type. The overall finding supports the modularity view of language in terms of morphosyntax; i.e. the language capacity is dissociated from the general cognition.

      • Suppressive effects of three diketopiperzines from marine-derived bacteria on TGFBIp-mediated septic responese in human endothelial cells and mice

        Diketopiperazine is a naturally occurring cyclic dipeptide found from diverse living organisma. The com-pounds in this structure class have been known with a broad spectrum of bioactivities including anti-inflamma-tory activities. Transforming growth factor β-induced protein (TGFBIp) is an extracellular matrix protein whose expression in several cell types is greatly increased by TGB- β. TGFBIp is released by human umbilical vein endothelica cells and functions as a mediator of experi-mental sepsis. Here, three (1-3) of diketopiperazines were isolated from two strains of marine-derived bacteria and we hypothesized that 1-3 could reduce TGFBIp-mediated severe inflammatory responses in human endothelial cells and mice. Here, we investigated the anti-septic effects and underlying mechanisms of 1-3 effectively inhibited lipopolysac-charide-induced release of TGFBIp and suppressed TGFBIp-mediated septic responses. In addition, 1-3 sup-pressed cecal ligation and puncture (CLP)-induced sepsis lethality and pulmonary injury. In conclusion, 1-3 sup-pressed TGFBIp-mediated and CLP-induced septic response. Therefore, 1-3 could be a potential therapeutic agent for treatment of various severe vascular inflamma-tory diseases inhibition of the TGFBIp signaling pathway.

      • 육우 햄에 대한 소비자 선호 분석

        The purpose of this study is to estimate the implicit prices and consumers’ preference by attributes on Korean beef cattle ham using choice experiments. Main attributes are the country of origin, non-antibiotic certification, HACCP certification, addition of Korean agricultural products and use of natural colors. The implicit prices of each attribute and level for country of origin are estimated as KRW 919.0 for Korean pork, KRW 2,173. for imported beef and KRW 5,232.9 for Korean cattle beef. The other estimated implicit prices are KRW1,762.9 for non-antibiotic certification, KRW 577.5 for HACCP certification, KRW 57.9 for addition of Korean agricultural products and finally, KRW 572.9 for use of natural colors. This study is expected to contribute to the decision-making process of Korean beef cattle farmers by providing useful quantitative information on attributes and price that are related to consumers’ preference on Korean beef cattle ham.

      • 열전퇴형 적외선 검출기의 개발연구

        열전퇴형 적외선 검출기의 개발연구를 위해, 센서의 핵심 구성요소인 열차단막, 열전퇴 및 적외선 흡수체에서 각각 요구되는 특성들을 검토하였고, 이들 특성을 실현하는 공정기술의 검증을 위한 시험소자로서 적외선 열원 대신에 Pt 히터 또는 NiCr 히터가 내장된 Bi-Sb 열전쌍 또는 열전퇴를 제작하였으며, 이들의 열응답 특성을 주로 고찰하였다. Pt 히터 저항에 대한 다이아프램 형성전후의 전류-전압 특성 차이 및 이 히터가 내장된 Bi-Sb 열전쌍에 대한 공기 및 진공중에서의 열감도 변화로부터 Si_3N_4/SiO_2/Si_3N_4다이아프램의 열차단 특성을 확인할 수 있었고, 또한 히터의 저항 온도계수를 측정함으로써 인가된 전력에 의한 Pt 히터의 온도를 알 수 있었다. Pt 히터가 내장된 Bi-Sb 열전쌍 시험소자의 열기전력은 히터와 열전쌍 사이의 거리가 증가함에 따라 지수함수적으로 감소하였고, 열전쌍의 열전계수는 약 97㎶/K였다. Pt 또는 NiCr 히터가 내장된 Bi-Sb 열전퇴 시험소자의 전압감도는 열전퇴를 구성하는 열전쌍의 개수가 증가함에 따라 증가하였고, 히터와 열전퇴의 고온 접합부 사이의 거리 및 고온 접합부와 실리콘 림 사이의 거리에 크게 의존하였으며, 또한 진공중에서의 전압감도가 공기중에서의 전압감도보다 더 크게 나타났다. 상기 결과를 바탕으로 하여 열전퇴형 적외선 센서의 시험제작을 위한 공정 설계와 공정용 마스크의 설계 및 제작을 완료하였다. For the development of a thermopile-type infrared detector, the respective characteristics required in thermal isolation layer, thermopile and infrared absorber, which are the core components of the detector, were studied first of all. The Bi-Sb thermocouples and thermopiles with Pt- or NiCr-heater instead of the infrared radiation source have been fabricated as the test devices for the verification of the process technologies to fulfill respective characteristics, and their thermal responsivities were mainly investigated. The thermal isolation of Si_3N_4/SiO_2/Si_3N_4-diaphragm was confirmed by Ⅰ-Ⅴ characteristics difference of the Pt-heaters before and after the diaphragm formation, and the thermal sensitivities change of the Bi-Sb thermocouples in the air and vacuum. It could be known that the thermal loss in the heater is caused by the air, and the heater temperature with input power could be estimated by the measurement of the resistance temperature coefficient of Pt-heater. The thermoelectric voltage of the Bi-Sb thermocouple with Pt-heater decreased exponentially as the distance between heater and thermopile increased, and its thermoelectric coefficient was about 97 ㎶/K. The voltage responsivity of the Bi-Sb thermopile with Pt- or NiCr-heater increased as the number of thermocouples increase, was strongly dependent on the distance between heater and hot junction of the thermopile, and between hot junction and silicon-rim, and the voltage responsivity in the vacuum was higher than that in the air. On the basis of the above results, the process design and preparation of the process mask set for the test fabrication of a thermopile-type infrared sensor have been completed.

      • 濟州道 菜蔬·花卉園藝의 生産實態, 育成方案 및 流通構造改善에 관한 硏究

        濟州道의 施設을 理用한 菜蔬類와 球根切花類 및 洋蘭類의 재배실태를 調査한 結果는 다음과 같이 要約할 수 있다. 1. 作目이 토마토와 오이에 編重되어 있어 딸기等을 첨가하여 作目이 多樣化하여야 할 것으로 思料되었다. 2. 施設內의 土壤管理에 대한 認識이 不足하며, 均衡施肥가 施行되지 않고 있었고 土壤酸度도 矯正해야 할 농가가 많았다. 3. Mg이 缺乏된 施設이 대부분이므로 이의 是正이 時急한 課題였다. 4. 施設內 土壤에서 鹽類集積의 被害가 우려되는 곳은 거의 없었으나 裁培年限이 5年以上된 施設에서는 土壤改良이 이뤄저야 할 것으로 思料되었다. 5. 作付體係를 改善해서 年 2期作 體係가 確立되어야 겠으며 施設管利技術이 普及, 育苗技術의 改善 및 共同育苗를 施行해서 健全苗의 養成이 重要課題였다. 6. 濟州道內에서 産業的으로 栽培되고 있는 蘭類 中에서 熱帶産 Cymbidium類가 全體 洋蘭 栽培量의 67.8%로 가장 많았는데 그 中에서도 Eiko, sharnell-5, Kenny가 數的으로 많았다. 7. 溫帶産蘭(東洋蘭)類 中에서는 새우난초類가 數的으로 가장 많았고, 나도풍난, Dendrobrum moniliforme, Cymbidium 風蘭의 順位이었으며, 自生寒蘭은 대 40,396촉이 栽培되고 있었다. 8. 供試 5種의 球根類들은 virus 감염이 甚하여 全量이 virus 無病株로 대체되어야 할 것으로 판단되었다. 9. 서귀포지역의 土壤은 害蟲이 많이 分布하여 球根切花栽培에 큰 위협조건으로 나타났으며 앞으로 도양소독에 대하여 보다 집약적이고 효율적인 方法이 개발되어야 하겠다. 10. 한라산의 고냉지를 利用한 球根의 低溫處理 效果에 對하여 많은 적응시험이 요망되며 道當局은 고냉지의 개발과 利用에 적극적인 지원을 투여하여야 할 것이다. 11. 植栽되고 있는 5種의 球根類 모두 50% 以上이 外國수입에 의존하고 있으므로 國內의 組織培養技術을 利用한 virus 無病良質球根의 生産이 절실히 요망된다. Studies on various cultural practices of vegetable crops, and orchids have been conducted in Chejudo. Followings are the results of such studies. 1. Too much importance has been given to Tomato and Cucumber crops. An additional crop such as Strawberry should be included to broaden the studies. 2. In general, lack of informations on soil managements appear to be prevailing; scheduled fertilization, for instance, has not been performed and pH level must be adjusted on many farm lands. 3. Mg deficiency has been very much in common, therefore, is corection are matter of utmost importance. 4. Problems arising from salt accumulation were nearly unimportant, however, soil improvements through various cultural practices are recommended for those soils which have been continuous cropping for more than 5 years. 5. Planting system should be improved so as to establish 2-crops/year system. In addition, proper extention of various soil management techniques and improvement on nursing techiques are of inportant matters. Commonly sharing community nursing practices must be accompanied in order to provide healthy-seedlings. 6. Among commercially growing orchid species in Chejudo, the tropical Cymbidium species found to be the most widely grown, nearly 67.8% 'Kiko', 'Sharnell-5', 'Kenny' appear to be most in common. 7. Among oriental orchids, Calanthe spp are found to be most prevalent followed in the order of Aerides japonica, Dendrobium moniliforme, Cymbidiums, respectively. 8. The total number of the shoots of Cymbidium kanran being cultivated in Chejudo were found to be 40,396. 9. Virus infections appear to be universal in all 5 species of bulbs studied therefore, virus-free stocks must be essential. 10. Sogwipo-soil, in general, heavily infected by soil-born insects of various kinds are badly affecting bulb productions. More efficient methods of soilsanitations must be studied and introduced in the future. 11. The studies of low temperature treatment on bulb crops by utilizing the high altitude growing in the area of mountain Halla are in great need. An extensive assistance from the provincial government are very much in need in order for the development and utilization of the high-altitude cultivation. 12. More than 50% of the bulbs of the 5 species grown are being imported. Domestic production utilizing 'meristem culture' which enable the virus free stocks are in great demand.

      • 春蘭 根莖의 暗培養時 NAA및 BA의 效果

        種子播種에 依하여 얻어진 春蘭의 根莖을 Murashige & Skoog 培地에 暗培養하였을 境遇, 生育과 植物體分化에 미치는 NAA와 BA의 效果는 0.2∼10m/ℓ 水準까지 BA의 濃度가 높아질수록 根莖의 分枝數가 增加되었고 NAA의 濃度가 높아질수록 根莖의 길이가 增加되었다. 한편 暗狀態에서도 shoot와 뿌리가 分化되었는데 BA의 濃度가 높아질수록 shoot의 分化數가 增加되었으며 NAA 10mg/ℓ添加는 뿌리를 發生시켰다. 根莖의 生育 및 植物體 分化에 미치는 NAA와 BA는 混合處理하는 것이 效果的이었다. Effects of NAA and BA added to the Murashige & Skoog medium on the growth of Cymbidium virescens rhizome propagated from seed germination aseptically, and on the shoot and root formation from the rhizome were studied in continuous darkness. With increasing concentration from 0.2 to 10mg/ℓ, BA promoted proliferation of the rhizome tips, and NAA elongated the rhizomes. Although the rhizomes cultured in complete darkness, shoot induction was stimualted with incresing of BA concentration, and root was induced with addition of 10mg/ℓNAA. NAA combinated with BA was more effective rhizome growth and plantlet differentiation.

      • 동해지방의 천연 Zeolite 의 건조제로서의 흡착특성

        Some selected natural zeolites obtained from Kyungpook coastal area were modified by HCI, NaOH and NH_4OH solutions and exposed to the atmosphere of various vapour pressure within the desiccator. Generally, silica gel exhibited as good moisture adsorbent at high humidity and as poor adsorbent at low humid atmosphere. However, moisture adsorption capacities of mordenite such as Na^+-K_111, NH_4^+-K_111, Na^+-Y_11 exceeded the silica gel at the lower moisture pressure than 16 torr. NH_4^+-MOrdenite proved itself to be best adsorbent in the closed system whose moisture pressure diminished as the time eclipsed. This system was most closely simulated to the working conditions of those commercial dryer in the package.

        Although technical progress has been known as an essential means for economic growth since industrial revolution, it is only of recent years that technology has become indispensable for it. Especially our nation needs to accumulate technology that substitute for resources. The accumulation of technology is accomplished with develop in domestic and import from foreign. These two methods are pursuited for the purpose of improving competitive power of export goods. Foreign technology import may give rise two serious troubles. One is the question of appropriateness in our nation's environment. The situation of factor endowment is differ from each nations and/or firms develop technology according to their own necessity. Therefore the question what technology is adequate to our nation is a serious for technology import. The other is the question of low price decision. If the technology is sold in a perfectly competitive market, the price will be automatically decided by competitive market mechanism. However, the situation of determining the price of technology is quite different from that of an competitive price reached in normal market. Therefore the price is subject to negotiation between exporter and importer and the purpose of transaction depends upon their bargaining capacity. Successful technology import should be satisfied with appropriateness and low price of technology. In this sense, domestic firm's technology import is pointed out some problems. First, technology import from U.S. whose factor endowment differ from domestics is larger than that from Japan. So increase in Japanese technology import is desirable because their universal conditions are similar to domestics. Second, rate of running royalties that payment percentage based on sales is expensive compare to that of between developed nations. The reason seems to lack of domestic firms' bargaining capacity. Third, confirm the technology price at the beginning of transaction period is frequent. That is disadvantage for importer. Besides, compete with each domestic firms for the same technology import make unfavourable to themselves. Bear in mind these problems, each firms should act diliveratly in technology import then fit them domestic industry in order to raise the competitive power in export goods.

      • 韓國의 地震 特性과 液狀化判定에 關한 考察

        In thesis, I research and analyze an earthquake phenomenon in the Korean Peninsula on the basic of historical records and observational data, and define its characteristics. Researching a liquefactive judgements method in the united states of American, Japan and China, I compare it with that method in Korea. Considering the enlargement tendency of the building and earthquake activity in the Korean Peninsula, when we design the general structure in our country we have to review an earthquake-proof in building. It is very fortunate that the soil liquefaction judgement criteria was legisterved recently. Considering the characteristics of earthquake in Korea, the judgement criteria of soil liquefaction have to be different from that of in Japan or the United States of America. So I presented here an amended equation that is following. τ_d/σ_υ^1=0.33σ_υ/σ_υ^1ㆍrd The constant 0.33 in the above relation, which reflects the earthquake characteristics of the Korean Peninsula to some degree, appears resonable compared to those of other areas of the world.
