The cold spot of the coil is very important in the BAF(Batch annealing furnace) annealing process. Because of the annealing cycle time in the BAF, annealing was decided on the cold spot of the coil. So, we tested the temperature variation of cold spot and the correctness of computer simulation at the annealing furnace using the Ax atmospheric gas. As a result of several investigations. We confirmed the following characteristics ; Annealing cycle was changed under the influence of the strip surface condition and the strip tension. The cold spot of coil was the mid point of the B coil in the Ax atmospheric gas. And, the power of recirculation fan is very important in the high convection annealing furnaces.

As demand for various kinds and small lot products has been increasing, batch annealing has been appreciated for its small restriction for the operation. The cold spot of the coil is very inportant in the BAF(Batch annealing furnace) annealing process. Because of the annealing cycle time in the BAF, annealing was decided on the cold spot of the coil. So, we tested the effect, variation of cold spot, for hydrogen contents of atmospheric gas at the annealing furnace. As a result of several investigations. We confirmed the following characteristics ; after the heating and soaking, the cold spot of coil moved to 1/3 of coil thickness in the HNx atmospheric gas, but the mid point of the coil thickness is the cold spot in the Ax or H₂atmospheric gas. Therefore, the use of hydrogen instead of nitrogen as the protective gas, combined with high convection in batch annealing furnaces, has shown that considerable increases in furnace output and material quality are attainable. Owing to the low density, high diffusion and reducing character of hydrogen, a better transfer resulting in uniform material temperatures and improved coil surfaces can be achieved.

Steroid cell tumor is a rare ovarian sex cord-stromal tumor which accounts for 0.1% of all ovarian tumors. Until now, only 4 cases have been reported in domestic literatures. Steroid cell tumor often secrets testosterone and presents virilization in adult women or precocious puberty in children. Treatment is often performed by surgical removal, adjuvant chemotherapy and radiation, but completely accepted treatment was not existed. We experienced a case of steroid cell tumor, which was manifested by typical virilization in a 43-year old patient, who was previously performed hysterectomy and unilateral oophorectomy. So, we present with a brief review of the literatures.
Immediate Postoperative Epidural Hematomas Adjacent to the Craniotomy Site

Objective : The authors present eight cases of immediate post-operative epidural hematomas[EDHs] adjacent to the craniotomy site, describe clinical details of them, and discuss their pathogenesis. Methods : Medical records of eight cases were retrospectively reviewed and their clinical data, operation records, and radiological findings analyzed. Any risk factors of the EDHs were searched. Results : In 5 of 8 cases, adjacent EDHs developed after craniotomies for the surgical removal of brain tumors. Three cases of adjacent EDHs developed after a pterional approach and neck clipping of a ruptured anterior communicating artery aneurysm, a ventriculoperitoneal shunt, and a craniotomy for a post-traumatic EDH, respectively. In all eight cases, brain computed tomography[CT] scans checked immediately or a few hours after the surgery, revealed large EDHs adjacent to the previous craniotomy site, but there was no EDH beneath the previous craniotomy flap. After emergent surgical removal of the EDHs, 7 cases demonstrated good clinical outcomes, with one case yielding a poor result. Conclusion : Rapid drainage of a large volume of cerebrospinal fluid or intra-operative severe brain collapse may separate the dura from the calvarium and cause postoperative EDH adjacent to the previous craniotomy site. A high-pressure suction drain left in the epidural space may contribute to the pathogenesis. After the craniotomy for brain tumors or intracranial aneurysms, when remarkable brain collapse occurs, an immediate postoperative brain CT is mandatory to detect and adequately manage such unexpected events as adjacent EDHs.

The iron oxide particles could be resulted from the corrosion of the circulating water system of a power plant. Because it may be one of the trouble materials which affect the power generation efficiency due to the deposition on steam generator tube and turbine blade, the continuous observation of its concentration is very important. The laser induced break-down detection (LIBD) technology was applied to monitor continuously the concentration of corrosion products with the detection limit of ppb level. The measurement system consists of a Nd:YAG pulsed laser, a polarizing beam splitter, a flow-type sample cell, an acoustic emission sensor, a high speed data acquisition board, a personal computer, etc.. The performance test results confirmed that this technology can be effective to monitor the corrosion product concentration of the circulating water system of a power plant.

The linear polarization resistance method is one of the widely used techniques for the corrosion rate monitoring in the water circulating systems of plants. The measurement is simple and rapid, so that a continuous on-line monitoring is possible without any shutdown of plants. A 2-electrode Polarization corrosion rate measurement system was installed in a laboratory using a data acquisition board and PC. The signal processing parameters were optimized for the accurate corrosion rate measurement, and the polarization resistance was compensated with the solution resistance measured by the high frequency sine wave signal of an output channel. The precision of corrosion rate data was greatly improved by removing the initial noisesignals on measuring the polarization resistance.
