Hiccups, also known as singultus, are spasmodic involuntary contractions of respiratory muscles that shorten respiration. The characteristic sound is caused by rapid closure of the glottis. In oriental medicine, the mechanism of hiccups is "reversed flow of Ki". Hiccups have been associated with neoplasm, infections, seizures, diabetes. renal failure, alcohol ingestion, various drugs, and ischemic events of the myocardium or central nervous system. We present a case of chronic hiccups after cerebral infarction that was successfully treated using moxibustion therapy.
On the Effect of a Pilot Coding Education Support System for Complex Problem Solving Tasks
Jeon, Inseong,Song, Ki-Sang The Institute of Internet 2018 Journal of Advanced Smart Convergence Vol.7 No.4
In the programming education, there is a great need of a teaching support system that can support the learner in the programming process regardless of the computer language due to instructor's difficulty of checking the progress of learners in real-time. Its importance is especially important in lower grade coding classes such as in K-12 education because they are not used to coding and so simple problems can be regarded as complex problems. For this, a pilot coding education support system based on Levenshtein distance algorithm which shows learners' progress to given solution in real-time was developed in order to help learners to solve complex problems easily, and the learners' motivation and self-efficacy was measured for estimating the usefulness of developed system targeting elementary school students. When the learners use the developed system, it was found that a statistically significant difference appears in the sub-factors of learning motivation compared with traditional class teaching environments. Among the sub-factors of self-efficacy, the efficacy dimension showed statistically significant difference too.
Inhibition of p65 Nuclear Translocation by Radicicol, Heat Shock Protein Inhibitor
Sang Gyu Kim,Young Jin Jeon,Seog Ki Lee 한국독성학회 2005 Toxicological Research Vol.21 No.4
We demonstrate that radicicol, a macrocyclic antifungal antibiotic originally isolated from Monosporium bonorden, inhibits LPS-induced expression of iNOS gene in RAW 264.7 cells. Treatment of peritoneal macrophages and RAW 264.7 cells with radicicol inhibited LPS-stimulated nitric oxide production in a dose-related manner. Immunohistochemical staining of iNOS and RTPCR analysis showed that the decrease of NO was due to the inhibition of iNOS gene expression in RAW 264.7 cells. Immunostaining of p65, EMSA, and reporter gene assay showed that radicicol inhibited NF-κ/Rel nuclear translocation, DNA binding, and transcriptional activation, respectively. Collectively, these series of experiments indicate that radicicol inhibits iNOS gene expression by blocking NF-κ/Rel nuclear translocation. Due to the critical role that NO release plays in mediating inflammatory responses, the inhibitory effects of radicicol on iNOS suggest that radicicol may represent a useful anti-inflammatory agent.

To establish new metal groundwater standard, 5 metals such as aluminum, chromium, iron, manganese, and selenium were evaluated by Chemical Ranking Of groundWater pollutaNts (CROWN) including possibility of exposure, toxicity, interest factor, connection standard for other media, and data reliability. 430 groundwater samples in 2013 and 2014 were collected semiannually from 110 groundwater wells and they were analyzed for selenium, manganese, iron, chromium, and aluminum. For this study, 430 groundwater samples were categorized into 3 geological distribution features, such as igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary rock region and geological background levels were divided by pre-selection methods. For the results, the average concentrations of aluminum, chromium, iron, manganese, and selenium in 430 groundwater samples were 0.0008 mg L-1, 0.0001 mg L-1, 0.174 mg L-1, 0.083 mg L-1, and 0.0004 mg L-1, respectively. In addition, among various geologies, average concentration of selenium was the highest in igneous rock region, average concentrations of chromium, manganese and aluminum were the greatest in sedimentary rock region, and average concentration of iron was the most high in metamorphic rock region. As a result of the geological background concentration with pre-selection method, background concentrations of selenium and aluminum in groundwater samples were the highest from sedimentary rock as 0.0010 mg L-1 and 0.0029 mg L-1 and background concentrations of manganese and iron in groundwater samples were the greatest from metamorphic rock as 0.460 mg L-1 and 1.574 mg L-1, and no chromium background concentration in groundwater samples was found from all geology.

Among the Shc proteins, p66shc is known to be related to oxidative stress responses and regulation of the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS). The present study was undertaken to investigate the role of p66shc on endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) activity in the mouse embryonic fibroblasts (MEFs). When wild type (WT) or p66shc (/) MEFs were transfected with full length of eNOS cDNA, the expression and activity of eNOS protein were higher in the p66shc (/) MEFs. These phenomena were reversed by reconstitution of p66shc cDNA transfection in the p66shc (/) MEFs. The basal superoxide production in the p66shc (/) MEFs was not significantly different from that of WT of MEFs. However, superoxide production induced by NADPH in the p66shc (/) MEF was lesser than that in WT MEFs. When compared with WT MEFs, cell lysate of p66shc (/) MEFs showed significantly increased H-ras activity without change of endogenous H-ras expression. Our findings suggest the pivotal role of p66shc adaptor protein played in inhibition of endothelial nitric oxide production via modulation of the expression and/or activity of eNOS protein.
A Performance Enhanced UHF RFID System with Modified I/Q Diversity Receiver
Ki Yong Jeon(전기용),Chang Seok Yoon(윤창석),Sung Ho Cho(조성호) 한국통신학회 2008 韓國通信學會論文誌 Vol.33 No.7A
In this paper, we propose a modified I/Q diversity scheme receiver of UHF RFID reader system. The modified I/Q diversity receiver is more robust than the conventional homodyne receiver in the wireless noisy, fading channel and phase noise environments by making use of additional axes. In particular, it is shown that the closer the phase difference θ(t) between the reader and the tag to π/4, the larger performance improvement we can get. The performance of the proposed receiver is verified by equations and is demonstrated by the computer simulation for various difference θ(t) cases.

CYPRUS is a web-based waste disposal research comprehensive information management program developed by the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute over three years from 2004. This program is stored as existing quality assurance documents and data, and the research results can be viewed at any time. In addition, it helps to perform all series of tasks related to the safety evaluation study of the repository in accordance with the quality assurance system. In the future, it is necessary to improve the user convenience by clarifying the relationship between FEP and scenarios and upgrading output functions such as visualization and automatic report generation. This purpose of this study is to research and develop the advanced program of CYPRUS. This study is based on building FEP, DIM and scenario databases. It is necessary to develop an algorithm to analyze and visualize the FEP, DIM and scenario relationship. This project is an integrated information processing platform for DB management and visualization considering user convenience. The first development goal is to build long-term evolutionary FEP, DIM, and scenarios as a database. The linkage by FEP item was designed in consideration of convenience by using a mixed delimiter of letters and numbers. This design provides information on detailed interactions and impacts between FEP items. Scenario data lists a series of events and characteristic change information for performance evaluation in chronological order. In addition, it includes information on FEP occurrence and mutual nutrition by period, and information on whether or not the repository performance is satisfied by item. The second development goal is to realize the relationship analysis and visualization function of FEP and scenario based on network analysis technique. Based on DIM, this function analyzes and visualizes interactions between FEPs in the same way as PID, RES, etc. In addition, this function analyzes FEP and DIM using network analysis technique and visualizes it as a diagram. The developed platform will be used to construct and visualize the FEP DB covering research results in various disposal research fields, to analyze and visualize the relationship between core FEP and scenarios, and finally to construct scenarios and calculation cases that are the evaluation target of the comprehensive performance evaluation model. In addition, it is expected to support the knowledge exchange of experts based on the FEP and scenario integrated information processing platform, and to utilize the platform itself as a part of the knowledge transfer system for knowledge preservation.
