Reduction of Hydrogen Sulphide in Chicken Manure by Immobilized Sulphur Oxidising Bacteria Isolated from Hot Spring

        M. Y. Hidayat1,H. M. Saud,A. A. Samsudin 한국미생물·생명공학회 2019 한국미생물·생명공학회지 Vol.47 No.1

The rapid development of the poultry industry has led to the production of large amounts of manure, which produce substances like hydrogen sulfide (H2S) that contribute to odor pollution. H2S is a highly undesirable gas component and its removal from the environment is therefore necessary. Sulfur-oxidizing bacteria (SOB) are widely known to remove contaminating H2S due to their ability to oxidize reduced sulfur compounds. In this study, three potential SOB (designated AH18, AH25, and AH28) that were previously isolated from a hot spring in Malaysia were identified by 16S rRNA gene analysis. Laboratory-scale biological deodorization experiments were conducted to test the performance of the three isolates—in the form of pure or mixed cultures, with the cells immobilized onto alginate as a carrier—in reducing the H2S from chicken manure. On the basis of 16S rRNA phylogenetic analysis, isolate AH18 was identified as Pseudomonas sp., whereas isolates AH25 and AH28 were identified as Achromobacter sp. The most active deodorizing isolate was AH18, with an H2S reduction rate of 74.7% (p < 0.05). Meanwhile, the reduction rates for isolates AH25 and AH28 were 54.2% and 60.8% (p > 0.05), respectively. However, the H2S removal performance was enhanced in the mixed culture, with a reduction rate of 81.9% (p < 0.05). In conclusion, the three potential SOB isolates were capable of reducing the H2S from chicken manure in the form of a pure culture immobilized on alginate, and the reduction performance was enhanced in the mixed culture.

Steady-State Analysis and Trade Balance Convergence Rate of ASEAN Member Countries

Agus Maolana HIDAYAT1,Rina INDIASTUTI2,Budiono BUDIONO3,Ferry HADIYANTO4 한국유통과학회 2021 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.8 No.6

The international trade role of a country depends on its economic condition, international economic openness, and cooperative orientation in its trade. This research analyzes AFTA free trade relating to the steady-state, disparity, and the ASEAN members’ trade balance convergence rate. The data used was taken from UNCTAD, ASYB, and Central Bank of Indonesia. The analysis model used was the most appropriate from Common, Fixed Effect Model (FEM), Random Effect Model (REM), and Generalized Method of Moment (GMM). ASEAN members’ balance trade reached a different steady-state for every country, therefore convergence pattern did not take place, and the divergence pattern occurred in trade balance among the member countries. The divergent trade balance was due to the different early economic conditions, macroeconomic development, trade openness, and trade facilities and infrastructures in each country. It was also due to the ASEAN intratrade cooperative role and low investment coming from intra-ASEAN foreign investment. To promote trade and lower divergent trade balance, it is necessary to promote intra-ASEAN trade and create a conducive situation for foreign capital investors.

Hydrothermal assisted synthesis of titanium dioxide nanoparticles modified graphene with enhanced photocatalytic performance

Rahmat Hidayat,Rahmat Hidayat,Tawfik A. Saleh 한국공업화학회 2022 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.113 No.-

Water purification is a global issue, and most traditional methods have several drawbacks. As a result, new methods and materials must be devised to address the problem of water filtration. The hydrophobicTiO2-ZnO/rGO has been synthesized via single-step hydrothermal methods for the efficiency and effectiveindigo carmine (IC) solution degradation. The characterization of hydrophobic TiO2-ZnO/rGO has shownthat the material has a high contact angle value of around 103.6. Several photocatalytic parameters, pHof IC solution, the dosage of catalyst, and light intensity, were optimized for obtaining the highest degradationefficiency. The results of the photocatalytic study showed that the IC dye degradation process wascontrolled by superoxide anion radical (O2 radicals) to produce more specific products. Modificationswith hydrophobic compounds such as hexamethyldisilizane (HDMS) showed that they could increasethe photocatalytic properties and reusability of the material with a degradation percentage value of upto 95% with a constant rate of 0.0361 min1. Based on these results, this material has the potential tobe further developed for micro and complex photodegradation and self-cleaning materials.

Nizwaside: a new anticancer pregnane glycoside from the sap of Desmidorchis flava

        Hidayat Hussain,Ahmed Al-Harrasi,Muhammad Adil Raees,Najeeb Ur Rehman,Ahmed Al-Rawahi,Rene´ Csuk,Husain Yar Khan,Ghulam Abbas,Mohammed Abdullah Al-Broumi,Ivan R. Green,Ali Elyassi,Talat Mahmood 대한약학회 2015 Archives of Pharmacal Research Vol.38 No.12

The sap from the succulent Desmidorchis flava (N.E.Br) Meve and Liede yielded a new pregnane glycoside, named nizwaside whose structure was established using 1D and 2D NMR techniques as well as mass spectrometry (ESIMS). Nizwaside was tested for anticancer, DPPH antioxidant, urease enzyme inhibition, a-glucosidase enzyme inhibition and acetylcholinesterase inhibition activities. Interestingly, nizwaside showed significant anti-proliferative effects on MDA MB231 breast cancer cells with an IC50 of 23.5 lg/ml. Moreover, nizwaside was more effective than Doxorubicin, a wellknown clinical anticancer drug, in suppressing MDA MB231 cell proliferation even at concentrations lower than that of Doxorubicin (75 lg/ml nizwaside vs. 100 lg/ml Doxorubicin). On the other hand, nizwaside showed relatively weak antioxidant activity with 15 % inhibition.

Effect of zinc on the immune response and production performance of broilers: a meta-analysis

Hidayat, Cecep,Sumiati, Sumiati,Jayanegara, Anuraga,Wina, Elizabeth Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2020 Animal Bioscience Vol.33 No.3

Objective: This study performed a meta-analysis of published trials to determine the effects of zinc on the immune response and production performance of broilers. Methods: A database was built from published literature regarding the addition of zinc forms or doses and their relation to the immune response and production performance of broilers. Different doses or forms of zinc were identified in the database. The recorded parameters were related to the immune response and production performance. The database contained a total of 323 data points from 41 studies that met the criteria. Then, the data were processed for a meta-analysis using a mixed model methodology. The doses or different forms of zinc were considered fixed effects, different studies were treated as random effects, and p-values were used as the model statistics. Results: An increase in zinc dose increased (p<0.05) pancreas metallothionein (MT) and zinc concentrations in the plasma, tibia and meat, all in quadratic patterns, but linearly decreased (p<0.05) the heterophil/lymphocyte (H/L) ratio. Regarding the different zinc forms, both inorganic and organic zinc increased (p<0.05) the zinc concentrations in the plasma and tibia, the calcium and phosphorus contents in the tibia, and the antioxidant activity of superoxide dismutase in meat as compared to control. An increase in zinc dose increased average daily gain (ADG) and decreased feed conversion ratio (FCR) following a quadratic pattern (p<0.05). Inorganic and organic zinc decreased (p<0.05) FCR and H/L ratio than that of control, but these two forms were similar for these parameters. Conclusion: Zinc addition has a positive impact on immunity and broiler production. Zinc can suppress stress and inhibit the occurrence of lipid peroxidation in broilers, and it can also improve ADG, FCR, and the quality of broiler carcasses.

A comparison of mono- and multi-valent ions as stack feed solutions in microbial reverse-electrodialysis electrolysis cells and their effects on hydrogen generation

Hidayat, S.,Song, Y.H.,Park, J.Y. Elsevier Applied Science 2016 INTERNATIONAL BIODETERIORATION AND BIODEGRADATION Vol.113 No.-

Microbial reverse-electrodialysis cells (MRECs) are an emerging technology combining microbial electrolysis cells (MEC) with reverse electrodialysis (RED) for the production of hydrogen gas. In this study, the MREC system used monovalent ions (Na+ and Cl-) and a mixture of mono- and multi-valent ions (Mg2+ and SO42-) as stack feed solutions, which were compared to determine the effect of the presence of multivalent ions on MREC performance. The MREC system operated under batch conditions using acetate as a substrate while the RED stack operated under continuous flow conditions using pure NaCl and a mixture with a 10% molar fraction of multivalent ions and a 90% molar fraction of monovalent ions as stack feed solutions (flow rate = 1.2 mL min-1). When using 10% of MgSO4 as a stack feed solution, the maximum current achieved for the MREC system decreased from 4.2 to 3.7 mA compared to the pure NaCl. Moreover, the quantity of hydrogen produced, the production rate, and yield also decreased by approximately 32, 35, and 23%, respectively. The results obtained from this study demonstrated that the presence of multivalent ions had an adverse effect on MREC performance.

A New Form of Fuzzy Generalized Bi-Ideals in Ordered Semigroups

        ( Hidayat Ullah Khan ),( Nor Haniza Sarmin ),( Asghar Khan ) 호남수학회 2014 호남수학학술지 Vol.36 No.3

In several applied disciplines like control engineering, computer sciences, error-correcting codes and fuzzy automata theory, the use of fuzzified algebraic structures especially ordered semigroups and their fuzzy subsystems play a remarkable role. In this paper, we introduce the notion of (-e,-ev-qk,)-fuzzy subsystems of ordered semigroups namely (-e,-ev-qk,)-fuzzy generalized bi-ideals of ordered semigroups. The important milestone of the present paper is to link ordinary generalized bi-ideals and (-e,-ev-qk,)-fuzzy generalized bi-ideals. Moreover, different classes of ordered semigroups such as regular and left weakly regular ordered semigroups are characterized by the properties of this new notion. Finally, the upper part of a (-e,-ev-qk,)-fuzzy generalized bi-ideal is defined and some characterizations are discussed.

Use of Torrefaction and Solvent Extraction To Produce Ash-less Biomass as a Solid Fuel Feedstock for Co-firing

        Hidayat, Sukma,Fauzan, Ryan Fitrian Sofwan,Jeong, Seongha,Chun, Donghyuk,Yoo, Jiho,Kim, Sangdo,Lim, Jeonghwan,Rhim, Youngjoon,Lee, Sihyun,Choi, Hokyung American Chemical Society 2017 ENERGY AND FUELS Vol.31 No.6

<P>As a result of the characteristics of biomass, biomass exploitation as a secondary fuel feedstock in co-firing is only technically and economically acceptable in the range of 5-10% (w/w). In this study, torrefaction and solvent extraction as biomass pretreatments were conducted to address feedstock limitations, making a larger share of biomass for co-firing feasible. The physical and chemical characteristics of the solvent-extracted biomass were investigated using proximate analysis, ultimate analysis, thermogravimetric analysis, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Biomass torrefied at 200, 250, 270, 300, and 330 degrees C was extracted by nonpolar organic solvent 1-methylnaphthalene at 350 degrees C for 1 h to produce ash-less biomass (extracted biomass). A dry, raw, woody biomass was also extracted under the same conditions to see the effect of torrefaction on the characteristics of extracted biomass and residue biomass. The result shows that solvent extraction was effective in producing ash-less biomass, with less than 0.1 wt % (dry basis) ash content remaining in the extracted fraction. It was also found that the torrefaction temperature had an effect on the extracted biomass yield and slightly influenced the physical and chemical properties of the extracted biomass. The unique properties of the extracted biomass make it possible to use for other purposes, namely, as high-value functional materials.</P>
