        This study aims at finding a effect of various position and length of laminar tear on vibrational characteristics on beam including shear deformation. General solution for nonlaminar tear and laminar tear regions are first established. Recurrence equations relating integration constants for adjacent interior regions are established by satisfying continuity conditions at junctions of interior region. The frequency determinant is then obtained by satisfying contiuity conditions at junction between end region and interior regions immediately next to the end region. Numerical results are compared for experimental and references results.

      • 서울시 영등포구와 구로구에 소재한 중학교 운동장의 토양과 옥외 분진의 중금속 오염

        도시화 및 산업화에 따른 중금속 원소들의 분삭 특성과 오염 양상을 파악하고 중금속 원소들의 산출 상태를 규명하기 위하여 서울시 영등포구와 구로구에 있는 34개 중학교의 토양과 분지 시료 총 102개를 채취하여 pH측정과 Pb, Cu, Zn 및 Cd의 중금속 원소들의 함량을 측정하였으며 중금속 함량이 높은 몇가지 시료에 대해 연속추출법을 실시하였다. 연구 지역 중학교의 토양의 pH는 화단 토양이 중성 및 약알칼리성을 운동장 토양이 약알칼리성을 나타낸다. 연구 지역 중학교의 중금속 원소의 함량은 분진의 함량이 높게 나타났고, 지역별로는 Pb와 Cd가 교통량 밀집 지역에서, Cu와 Zn이 공단지역에서 함량이 높게 나타났다. 연속 추출법에 의한 분진의 실험 결과 Pb는 철, 망간 산화물에 결합된 형태로 Cu와 Zn은 이온교환 가능한 형태로 존재하고 있어 Cu, Zn의 이동도가 좋다. 중금속 원소 들의 상관성 검토에서 연구 지역은 다양한 오염원이 존재하는 지역이므로 Pb, Cu 및 Zn의 상관성과 Pb와 Cd의 상관성이 좋다. 다른 수도권 위성 도시와 비교해 볼때 서울 지역의 학교 환경에서는 공업단지의 Cu, Zn의 오염보다 차량증가, 교통체증에 의한 Pb, Cd의 오염이 점점 진행되고 있음을 볼 수 있다. 원소들의 분포 특성 및 오염 지수의 조사 결과 영등포구, 구로구에 위치한 중학교 내의 분진은 거의 모든 지역이 Cd를 제외한 Pb, Cu및 Zn의 중금속 원소의 함량이 높으며, 오염 지수도 1이상의 값을 나타낸다. 특히 공단 지역보다는 교통량이 많은 지역의 오염지수가 더 높다. Soil and dust samples collected from the Youngdungpo-ku and Kuro-ku area in Seoul metropolitan city were analyzed for Pb, Cu, Zn and Cd to investigate their dispersion patterns and pollution level of heavy metals by urbanization and industrialization. Garden soils in the school range from 5.9 to 7.8 in pH and playground soil from 7.3 to 10.5. No difference is in pH values between the polluted and the non-polluted school areas. High concentration of Pb and Cd in school dusts were found in dense traffic area. However, many schools in the industrial area are highly contaminated with Cu and Zn. The result of sequential extraction analysis of the dusts indicates that Pb is mainly bound to Fe and Mn oxides and Cu and Zn is bound to ion exchangeable fraction. The Pb-Cd pollutants could be originated from the identical sources based on a good correlation of Pb-Cu-Zn and Pb-Cd. It suggests that Cd and Pb in dusts be derived from vehicular emissions and wearing tires. The contamination of Pb and Cd in the school area due to vehicular emissions has been notably increased rather than Cu and Zn contamination caused by factorial activities. The pollution index of school area is more than 1, indicating a relatively high contamination of heavy metals such as Pb, Cu and Zn except for Cd.

        화학기상응축 공정으로 제조한 Fe 나노입자의 TEM 미세조직 및 결정화거동

        Iron and iron nitride nanoparticles were synthesized by chemical vapor condensation (CVC) process, using a precursor of Fe(CO)_(5) and carrier gas of NH₃. Phase change and crystallization behaviors of as received particles were mainly examined by TEM technique. Only α-Fe nanoparticles were formed at the lowest decomposition temperature of 500℃. As the temperature increased, the crystallization of α-Fe nanoparticles was suppressed and Fe₃N nanoparticles were begun to be formed. Finally full crystallization of Fe₃N was observed at 1000℃. Typical size of the α-Fe and Fe₃N particles was less than 30 nm in diameter.

      • 재발 또는 불응성 비호즈킨 림프종 환자에서 CDME 구제항암화학요법 후 고용량 항암화학요법 및 자가말초혈액 조혈모세포이식의 효과

        Background and objectives : The long-term survival in patients with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) after conventional dose chemotherapy is about 35% and the rest of the patients tend to have relapse. So, in relapsed or refractory NHL, we compared the outcome of patients undergoing high-dose chemotherapy with autologous peripheral blood stem cell transplantation(APBSCT) with only salvage chemotherapy of cisplatin, dexamethasone, mitoxantrone, and etoposide(CDME). Materials and methods : From June 1993 to December 1999, 25 patients with relapsed or resistant NHL were treated with CDME regimen as salvage chemotherapy. Twelve patients were received four cycles of CDME chemotherapy, and 13 patients were received high-dose chemotherapy with APBSCT following two cycles of CDME chemotherapy. Results : The median follow-up duration was 12.8 months(range:4-68). The overall response rate was 41.7% (complete response rate 25%, partial response rate 16.7%) in 12 patients with CDME only. Thirteen patients who were treated with high-dose chemotherapy with APBSCT achieved 61.5% complete response rate and 15.4% partial response rate, with an overall response rate of 76.9%. The estimated 3-year progression-free survival rate was significantly higher among patients who received high-dose therapy than patients who received CDME only(41.5% vs 20.0%, p<0.05). And, 3-year overall survival rate was significantly higher among patients who received high-dose therapy(51.3% vs 25.0%, p <0.05). Conclusions : In relapsed or refractory NHL, CDME chemotherapy is an effective salvage chemotherapy and allow peripheral blood stem cell collection. Also, high-dose chemotherapy with APBSCT following CDME is superior to CDME salvage chemotherapy only.

        Since the residential load is an AC load, while the output of solar cell is a DC power, the photovoltaic system needs the DC/AC converter to utilize solar cell and must provide the sinusoidal wave current and voltage, at unity power factor in the case of driving to interact with utility line. PWM modulator must do stable modulation even though it contains the disturbance like a distortion and noise, and it needs compensation method, because there is a timing interval between sampling points and carrier waves, while the synchronous signal is controlled by the micro processor. In this paper, we maximaze output of solar cells which is propotional to variation of insolation, using single phase PWM voltage source inverter, and we can drive in high power factor with utility line by control and compensation method which is concerned with synchronous signal distortion and modulation delay, using low pass filter and phase shifter.

        Cells immnunoreactive for somatostatin(SOM) and glucagon(GLU) were investigated in postnatal day 0, 7, 14, 28, 90, 180 and adult canine pancreas using light microscopic immunohistochemistry. Pancreatic SOM-immunoreactive cells were found in pancreatic acini, pancreatic duct, and pancreatic islet gradually. Pancreatic SOM-immunoreactive cells were more located in pancreatic parenchyme than pancreatic islet throughout pancreas by postnatal day 28. But there was change by the postnatal 3 months : pancreatic SOM-immunoreactive cells were more located in pancreatic islet than acini and duct. It is suggested that the number of the SOM-immunoreactive cells may not increase with age apparently. A small number of SOM-immunoreactive cells that showed GLU-immunoreactivity were also observed in canine pancreatic islet. The physiologic consequences of these changes remain to be determined. These results sugegest that SOM in the developing pancreas may relate to the secretion of pancreatic hormones.

        Ligand-Based Design, Synthesis, and Biological Evaluation of 2-Aminopyrimidines, a Novel Series of Receptor for Advanced Glycation End Products (RAGE) Inhibitors

        <P>Using the approach of ligand-based drug design, we discovered a novel series of 4,6-disubstituted 2-aminopyrimidines as RAGE inhibitors. In transgenic mouse models of AD, one of the 4,6-bis(4-chlorophenyl)pyrimidine analogs, <B>59</B>, significantly lowered the concentration of toxic soluble Aβ in the brain and improved cognitive function. SPR analysis confirmed the direct binding of <B>59</B> with RAGE, which should contribute to its biological activities via inhibition of the RAGE–Aβ interaction.         Design feasibility of double-skinned composite tubular wind turbine tower

        A double-skinned composite tubular (DSCT) wind power tower was suggested and automatic section design software was developed. The developed software adopted the nonlinear material model and the nonlinear column model. If the outer diameter, material properties and design capacities of a DSCT wind power tower are given, the developed software performs axial force-bending moment interaction analyses for hundreds of sections of the tower and suggests ten optimized cross-sectional designs. In this study, 80 sections of DSCT wind power towers were designed for 3.6 MW and 5.0 MW turbines. Moreover, the performances of the 80 designed sections were analyzed with and without considerations of large displacement effect. In designing and analyzing them, the material nonlinearity and the confining effect of concrete were considered. The comparison of the analysis results showed the moment capacity loss of the wind power tower by the mass of the turbine is significant and the large displacement effect should be considered for the safe design of the wind power tower.

        <i>Plasmodium vivax</i> Merozoite Surface Protein 1 Paralog as a Mediator of Parasite Adherence to Reticulocytes

        <P>Plasmodium vivax parasites preferentially invade reticulocytes in human beings. P. vivax merozoite surface protein 1 (PvMSP1) and PvMSP1 paralog (PvMSP1P) may have important functions in reticulocyte adherence during invasion. These proteins share similar structures, including the presence of two epidermal growth factor (EGF)-like and glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)-anchored domains at the C terminus. However, there have been no reports concerning the functional activity of PvMSP1P in reticulocyte adherence during P. vivax invasion. In this study, the ability of PvMSP1P-19 to bind to reticulocytes and normocytes was analyzed. The reticulocyte binding activity of PvMSP1P-19 was 4.0-fold higher than its normocyte binding activity. The binding of PvMSP1 P-19 to reticulocytes and normocytes was inhibited in a dose-dependent manner by antibodies from immunized rabbits and by antibodies from vivax parasite-infected patients. Consistently, antibodies against PvMSP1 P inhibited parasite invasion during short-term in vitro cultivation. Similar to the case for PvDBPII binding activity, PvMSP1P-19 binding activity was reduced in chymotrypsin-treated reticulocytes. However, no significant difference between the binding of PvMSP1P-19 to Duffy-positive and Duffy-negative erythrocytes was found. The minimal binding motif of PvMSP1P-19 was characterized using synthetic peptides. The results showed that the residues at amino acid positions 1791 to 1808 may have an important function in mediating merozoite adherence to reticulocytes. The positively charged residues within the EGF-like domain were shown to constitute a key binding motif. This work presents strong evidence supporting the role of PvMSP1P in host target cell selection and invasion of Duffy-independent pathway in P. vivax. Moreover, PvMSP1P-19-specific antibodies may confer protection against P. vivax reinvasion.</P>
