Mediastinoscopy is a surgical endoscopic technique used mainly for examination and biopsy of lesions of the superior and posterior middle mediastinum. It is particularly concerned with diseases that primarily or secondary involve the paratracheal and parabronchial lymphatics. A total of 18 cases of mediastinoscopy are presented with a detailed analysis of indications and results. Of these mediastinoscopy was positive in i0 [56%] and negative in 8 [44%]. The 10 positive mediastinoscopies were diagnostic in 4 patients with malignant lymphoma, 5 patients with carcinoma of the lung, one patient with active pulmonary tuberculosis. Of 8 negative mediastinoscopies, one was inoperable due to recurrent laryngeal nerve involvement, 7 patients were subjected to radical resection. Complications of mediastinoscopy were developed in 2 cases, one was minimal degree of subcutaneous emphysema on anterior chest wall, and the other was widening of right mediastinal border due to hematoma. Two complications were completely absorbed after 7 days.

Vibrational Analysis and Intermolecular Hydrogen Bonding of Azodicarbonamide in the Pentamer Cluster

Pentamer cluster of azodicarbonamide (ADA) based on the crystalline structure was investigated for the equilibrium structure, the stabilization energies, and the vibrational properties at various levels of the density functional theory. Stretching force constants of N…H or O…H, and angle-bending force constants of N-H…N or N-H…O for intermolecular hydrogen bonds in the pentamer cluster were obtained in 0.2-0.5 mdyn/Å and 1.6-2.0 mdynÅ, respectively. The geometry of central ADA molecule fully hydrogen bonded with other four molecules shows good coincidence to the crystalline structure except the bond distances of N-H. Calculated Raman and infrared spectra of central ADA molecule in cluster represent well the experimental spectra of ADA obtained in the solid state compared to a single molecule. Detailed structural and vibrational properties of central ADA molecule in the pentamer cluster are presented.

The structures and conformations of ortho-, meta-, and para-methyl red (MR) upon proton gain and loss were studied by density functional calculations, and compared to methyl yellow for the effects of a carboxyl substitution. Internal hydrogen bonding causes the geometry of neutral o-MR planar, otherwise twist. Mono-protonated species of MR are planar where the proton is attached to -azo nitrogen. This loses its azo character a bit, and shows strong delocalization characterized as a quinonoid canonical structure. Di-protonated species of MR is proved to hold two protons at the amino and -azo nitrogen atoms, and planar. It regains somewhat of its azo character, but still shows fairly delocalized property in terms of carbocationic canonical structures. The carboxyl substitution on 4-dimethylamino-trans-azobenzene structure has some delocalization effects on the geometry or conformation of MR derivatives whether neutral, mono-, di- or de-protonated.

The construction of apartment buildings near the road is increasing in the city. Noise insulation facilitiesare installed to reduce road traffic noise. The most effective is the sound proof tunnel. However, the sound prooftunnel is indiscriminately and excessively installed. Noise isolation performance and economic feasibility should beconsidered when installing sound proof tunnel. Based on the results, sufficient alternatives will allow for efficient designsat the same cost. This study provided an alternative to the efficient design of insulation facilities for apartment housings. It predicted the impact of traffic noise. We simulated 3D simulation of the apartment buildings. It analyzed the noisereduction effects.
