Background : Desmosomes are adhesive intercellular junctions that. for mean important component of the junction complexes of epithelial cells. They provide intercellular links between the intermediate filament cytoskeletons of adjacent cells and are has involved in maintaining the stritctural integrity of tissues. Objective : Calcium and retinioids ar:e major regulators of epidermal d fferentiation and their role on keratin proteins are well known. However, their effects on desmosom moleucles are unknown. To address this question we initiated a stdy of the effects of these epidermal differentiation regulators on desmosomal components, i.e., demoplikin, desmoglein, and pemphigus a atigens. Methods : We used monoclorial antibodies against desmoplakin(DF) and desmoglein(DG), and sera from patients with pemphigus vulgaris (PV), pemphigus foliaceus (DF) and paraneoplastic pemphigus (PNP) t,o study the effects of calcium and retinoic acids, which are major regulators of epidermal different,ation, on desmosomat protein formation in human cultured keratinoeytes. We performed immunofluorescence, immunoglotting and immunoprecipitation study using human keratinocytes cultured in high calcium media with or without retinoic acid and in low alcium media with or without retinoic acid. Results : 1. In low calcium (0.15mM) rnedia, PV antigen and DG were produced in a small amount and it appeared that these desmosomal proteins were located in cytosol. Thereas in high calcium (1,8mM) media production of these desmcsomal proteins was increased and they were assembled at, the desmosomal structures located in cell-cell contact margins. 2. PF antigen, which was idntical to the DG, were not producecio expressed in cultured kerati-nocytes even when cultured in high calcium media, 3. PNF antigen and DP were produced in cultured keratinocytes grow in both high and low calcium media but, their production was increased in high calcium media and only in high ealcium media they were assembled at the desninsomai structures. 4. Retinoic acids induced looiening of cell-cell contacts of culture keratinocytes and decreased t,he production of desmosomal grotein Conclusion : Our results suggests calcium is a major regulat,or of the production and assembly of desmosomal proteins including pemphigusantigens, but PF sera and minoclonal antibodies against DG show different, antigen binding characteristics. It appears that rtinvic acids inhibit production of desmosomal proteins. (Kor J Dermatol 1994;32(5):820 831)

N/A A Survey using Micro-Ouchterlony double immunodiffusion technique for the detection of alphay- fetoprotein in 127 adults including 25 cases of hepatoma, 40 cases of various liver diseases, 22 cases of other malignancies and 40 normal individuals revealed the folloiving results. 1. Serum AFP was positive in 15 out of 25 patients vith hepatoma (60%). 2. Among the 25 patients with hepatoma, the diagnosis was confirmed by biopsy in 12 and ivas made clinically in 13. In 7 of 12 biopsy-confirmed cases (58. 3%), and in 8 out of 13 clinically diagnosed cases (61. 5%), the serum AFP was positive. 3. In all of 40 cases of various liver diseases including metastatic carcinoma, cirrhosis, hepatitis and abscess, 22 cases of other malignancies and 40 normal individuals the serum AFP was negative, 4. There were no definite correlation between laboratory or clinical features and presence of the serum AFP in patients with hepatoma.
Candida albicans에 의한 허리근 농양 1예

칸디다는 우리 몸의 여러 곳에서 발견되는 상재 진균으로 Candida albicans가 가장 흔히 질병을 일으킨다. 대부분 표재성 감염을 일으키며 칸디다에 의한 심부 감염은 드물다. 심부 감염은 주로 면역약화 환자에서 혈류를 따라 여러 장기에 퍼지는 파종성 칸디다증으로 발생하며, 한 곳의 심부 장기에만 농양을 형성하는 경우는 상대적으로 덜 흔하다. 저자들은 당뇨병과 알코올성 간경변을 가진 환자에서 혈액 및 농 배양 검사에서 C. albicans가 동정된 허리근 농양 1예를 경험하였고 배농과 amphotercin-B, fluconazole로 성공적으로 치료하였기에 문헌고찰과 함께 보고하는 바이다. Candida species are ubiquitous human commensals, of which Candida albicans is most commonly associated with human disease. Candida infections usually involve superficial tissues, but the infections of deep tissues are relatively uncommon. Among the Candida infections of deep organs, disseminated candidiasis is the most common presentation particularly in immunosuppressed patients, however, a single abscess formation in deep organ is rare. We experienced a case of psoasabscess by C. albicans in a patient who had diabetes and alcoholic liver cirrhosis, which was treated successfully by drainage of the abscess and administration of amphotericin-B, followed by fluconazole. We report this case with review of the pertinent literatures.

The purpose of this study is to explore the validity and to improve the design guidelines based on the satisfaction survey of residents who have lived in Partial Rent Dwelling System House(PRDSH). The total of 456 households were selected from the 2 apartment house complexes which have PRDSH units for data analysis. The findings are as follows ; 1)The unit size for rental household should range between 14㎡ and 36㎡. 2)One or more bedrooms, an individual kitchen, an individual bathroom, and a separate entrance are required for the rental household unit. The door should be planned in the unit to integrate both owner"s and tenant"s units if needed. 3)The individual gauge system of gas, electricity and a piped water facility should be installed to impose the maintenance cost for each household. The building entrance open control device should be installed to access individually for each household as well. 4)A unit with PRDSH is counted as one household for planning welfare facilities except the parking lot. 5)The number of units with PRDSH should be less than 30% of the total households in the apartment complex.
