Strategies for advanced and harmonized pesticide regulation in Korea

Annual sales quantities of pesticide active ingredients are 24,000~26000 tons and gross sales is one billion won approximately in Korea. The rate of dependence on imports of technical grades is expected to rise above 80%. Pesticide management in Korea has been improved since Pesticide Management Act established 1957. We have registration system science 1997 that pesticide product item has 10 years valid. So all pesticides have to apply re-registration 6 months before expired date with requiring data package. To improve pesticide safety management, restricting risk suspected pesticide uses and requiring data for risk assessment, elevating data reliability to consolidate the test facilities, revitalizing registration of biological pesticides and expanding pesticide registration for minor crops and export promising crops by authority test trial and arrange are required.
한국인에서 Helicobacter pylori 감염의 진단에 있어 Genedia™ H . pylori ELISA 검사의 진단 정확도

Background: Genedia™ H. pylori ELISA is a newly developed diagnostic method which detects serum anti-H. pylori IgG antibody. The aim of this study was to assess the accuracy of Genedia™ H. pylori ELISA for the diagnosis of H. pylori infection in Korean population. Methods Genedia : H. pylori ELISA and GAP-IgG were performed in 353 adult sera and Pyloriset-IgG EIA in 184 subjects. In children, 43 serum samples were tested with Genedia™ H. pylori ELISA. H, pylori infection was determined by rapid urease test, histology, culture or (13)C-urea breath test in adults. In children, the subject was considered to he H. pylori positive if (13)C-urea breath test was positive. Results: In adults, the sensitivity and specificity of Genedia™ H. pylori ELISA were 93.2% and 83.5% with positive and negative predictive values of 85.1% and 92.5%. Those for GAP-IgG and Pyloriset-IgG EIA were 67.2%, 82.4%, 79.3%, 71.4% and 89.1%, 88.4%, 71.9%, 96.1%, respectively. In children, sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive values of Genedia™ H. pylori ELISA were 80%, 84.8%, 61.5%, and 93.3%. Sensitivity and negative predictive value of Genedia™ H. pylori ELISA were significantly higher than those of GAP-IgG (93.2% vs. 67.2%, p<0.005 and 92.5% vs 71.4%, p<0.005, respectively). Conclusion : Genedia™ H pylori ELISA is a relatively accurate method for the serodiagnosis of H pylori infection in Korean subjects compared to GAP-IgG. These results may suggest the clinical use of Genedia™ H. pylori ELISA for epidemiological studies of H. pylori infection in Korea. (Korean J Med 61:17-23, 2001)

The issue of whether or not the presence NOx (NO and oxidized metabolites) in the hepatocytes at pathological levels affects the functional activity of transport systems within the sinusoidal membrane was investigated. For this purpose, the effect of the pretreatment of isolated hepatocytes with sodium nitroprusside (SNP), a spontaneous NO donor, on the sinusoidal uptake of tributylmethylammonium (TBuMA) and triethylmethyl ammonium (TEMA), representative substrates of the organic cation transporter (OCT), and taurocholate, a representative substrate of the $Na^+$/taurocholate cotransporting polypeptide (NTCP), was measured. The uptake of TBuMA and TEMA was not affected by the pretreatment, as demonstrated by the nearly identical kinetic parameters for the uptake ($i.e., V_{max}, K_{m} and CL_{linear}$). The uptake of mannitol into hepatocytes was not affected, demonstrating that the membrane integrity remained constant, irregardless of the SNP prutreatment. On the contrary, the uptake of taurocholate was significantly inhibited by the pretreatment, resulting in a significant decrease in V_{max}$, thus providing a clear demonstration that NOx preferentially affects the function of NTCP rather than OCT on the sinusoidal membrane. A direct interaction between NOx and NTCP or a decrease in $Na^+/K^+$ ATPase activity as the result of SNP pretreatment might be responsible for this selective effect of NOx.

<P>Block copolymer (BCP) lithography is an effective nanopatterning methodology exploiting nanoscale self-assembled periodic patterns in BCP thin films. This approach has a critical limitation for nonplanar substrate geometry arising from the reflow and modification of BCP films upon the thermal or solvent annealing process, which is inevitable to induce the mobility of BCP chains for the self-assembly process. Herein, reflow-free, 3D BCP nanopatterning is demonstrated by introducing a conformally grown adlayer by the initiated chemical vapor deposition (iCVD) process. A highly cross-linked poly(divinylbenzene) layer was deposited directly onto the BCP thin film surface by iCVD, which effectively prevented the reflow of BCP thin film during an annealing process. BCP nanopatterns could be stabilized on various substrate geometry, including a nonplanar deformed polymer substrate, a pyramid shape substrate, and a graphene fiber surface. A fiber-type hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) catalyst is suggested by stabilizing lamellar Pt nanopatterns on severely rough graphene fiber surfaces.</P> [FIG OMISSION]</BR>

<P>Biointegrated electronics have been investigated for various healthcare applications which can introduce biomedical systems into the human body. Silicon-based semiconductors perform significant roles of nerve stimulation, signal analysis, and wireless communication in implantable electronics. However, the current large-scale integration (LSI) chips have limitations in <I>in vivo</I> devices due to their rigid and bulky properties. This paper describes <I>in vivo</I> ultrathin silicon-based liquid crystal polymer (LCP) monolithically encapsulated flexible radio frequency integrated circuits (RFICs) for medical wireless communication. The mechanical stability of the LCP encapsulation is supported by finite element analysis simulation. <I>In vivo</I> electrical reliability and bioaffinity of the LCP monoencapsulated RFIC devices are confirmed in rats. <I>In vitro</I> accelerated soak tests are performed with Arrhenius method to estimate the lifetime of LCP monoencapsulated RFICs in a live body.
