This study was carried out to investigate overall performance and to estimate effects of the environmental factors on body weights of the bull in Korean Native Cattle. Data used for this study included a total of 545 heads of Korean Native Cattle recorded from 1981 to 1990 at Alpine Experiment Station located in Kangwon province. The effects of year of birth, age of dam, parity of dam and season of birth were estimated by means of least squares method. Overall least squares means and standard errors for the body weights of the bull at birth, 4, 6, 12 and 18 months of ate were 26.8±0.13, 99.3±0.58, 142.4±0.80, 338.0±1.34 and 484.2±2.00㎏, respectively. The effects of year of birth showed significant differences on birth weigh and highly significant differences on the other traits. The effects of age of dam showed significant differences on 4 months of age. The effects of season of birth showed significant differences on all of the traits. the calves born in winter or spring were heavier than those born in summer or fall.

<P>Growth of large-scale patterned, wrinkle-free graphene and the gentle transfer technique without further damage are most important requirements for the practical use of graphene. Here we report the growth of wrinkle-free, strictly uniform monolayer graphene films by chemical vapor deposition on a platinum (Pt) substrate with texture-controlled giant grains and the thermal-assisted transfer of large-scale patterned graphene onto arbitrary substrates. The designed Pt surfaces with limited numbers of grain boundaries and improved surface perfectness as well as small thermal expansion coefficient difference to graphene provide a venue for uniform growth of monolayer graphene with wrinkle-free characteristic. The thermal-assisted transfer technique allows the complete transfer of large-scale patterned graphene films onto arbitrary substrates without any ripples, tears, or folds. The transferred graphene shows high crystalline quality with an average carrier mobility of ∼5500 cm<SUP>2</SUP> V<SUP>–1</SUP> s<SUP>–1</SUP> at room temperature. <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>In spite of several desirable properties such as high stability against superoxide anion and low vapor pressure, <I>N</I>-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) electrolyte is reported not suitable for use in lithium-oxygen (Li-O<SUB>2</SUB>) batteries because of severe degradation upon cycling and low oxygen efficiency. In this work, we find that NMP electrolyte is reactive with O<SUB>2</SUB> gas in the presence of lithium metal and such O<SUB>2</SUB>-consuming reaction (<I>i.e.,</I> autoxidation) is a possible cause for the poor performance in Li-O<SUB>2</SUB> batteries with NMP electrolyte. The autoxidation of NMP is verified by direct measurement of the depletion of O<SUB>2</SUB> gas in the hermetically sealed symmetric Li/Li cells via in-situ gas pressure analysis. In-situ differential electrochemical mass spectroscopy (DEMS) experiment reveals that the autoxidation resulted in significant O<SUB>2</SUB> consumption upon discharge, very low O<SUB>2</SUB> efficiency upon charge, and eventually fast capacity fading. 목적: 선천성 근성 사경 환자에서 동반된 두개 안면 비대칭을 객관적인 방법으로 측정하고 연령 및 경부 운동범위와의 관련성을 분석하고자 하였다. 대상 및 방법: 선천성 근성 사경으로 내원한 환자 중 두개 방사선 계측 촬영을 시행한 48명을 대상으로 하였다. 두개 방사선 계측 촬영 사진에서 두개 안변 경사각과 두개골 기저부 경사각을 측정하였다. 측두골 추체부 상연에서부터 유양돌기 말단까지의 길이를 측정하여 그 차이를 비교하였으며 두개 비대칭은 비중격을 지나는 수직선을 기준으로 양측 두개반구의 넓이를 비교하였다. 방사선 측정치의 평균과 표준편차를 구하고, 환아의 연령과 경부 운동범위와의 상관 관계를 통계 분석하였다. 결과: 두개 안면 경사각은 환측으로 5.2°±2.8° 기울어져 있었다. 두개골 기저부 경사각은 환측으로 평균 2.6°±2.6° 기울었으며 유양돌기의 길이는 환측이 7.0%±8.5% 길었고, 두개 비대칭은 환측이 15.4%±11.6% 더 컸다. 나이가 많은 군에서 하악 경사각(p=0.017) 및 유양돌기의 길이 차이(p=0.007)가 통계적으로 유의하게 컸으며 이 외의 측정값에서는 유의한 차이가 없었다. 결론: 선천성 근성 사경 환자에서 동반된 두개 안면 비대칭을 정량화할 수 있는 측정 방법을 제시하고 이를 통해 관상면 상에서 두개 안면부의 만곡 변형과 두개골의 비대칭이 있다는 것을 확인하였다. Purpose: To propose an objective method for evaluating the craniofacial asymmetry in congenital muscular torticollis patients, and to determine the correlation between the craniofacial asymmetry and clinical parameters such as age and the limitation of neck motion. Materials and Methods: Forty eight patients with congenital muscular torticollis, who underwent cephalometry for an evaluation, were enrolled in this study. The craniofacial curvature on the coronal plane, calvarial asymmetry, and mastoid process length were analyzed on the radiograph of the cephalometry. These radiographic measurements were analyzed to determine the correlation between the craniofacial asymmetry and clinical parameters. Results: The craniofacial axis was tilted to the affected side by 5.2°±2.8°. The skull base axis was tilted to the affected side by 2.6°±2.6°, and the mandible axis was tilted to the affected side by 1.0±2.3°. The difference in the mastoid process length from the skullbase was 7.0%±8.5%. The calvarial width from the vertical midline was 15.4% ±11.6% larger in the affected side. In patients older than 5 years, the mandibular tilting angle (p=0.017) and the length of the mastoid process (p=0.007) were greater than those of the younger patients. Conclusion: We proposed a new objective method for quantifying the craniofacial asymmetry in congenital muscular torticollis patients. This method confirmed the patients to have an angular deformity and asymmetry in the craniofacial bone.

Periodic paralysis associated with hyperthyroidism occurs in 2.0% of Graves disease and is characterized by myasthenia or bilateral flaccid paralysis of lower extremity, in some cases, it may be accompanied with cardiac arrhythmias which are mostly due to hypokalemia. The most common type of cardiac arrhythmias associated with hyperthyroidism is sinus tachycardia, 1015% of patients have atrial fibrillation. Rarely, ventricular tachycardia or ventricular fibrillation develop and lead to cardiac arrest in severe case. A 26-year-old man was admitted to the hospital because of weakness of lower extremity. The initial EKG showed ventricular tachycardia. The laboratory results were, TSH 0.08 μU/mL, free T4 4.11 ng/mL, T3 2.88 ng/mL, serum K 1.9 mEq/L. He was diagnosed as ventricular tachycardia associated with hypokalemic thyrotoxic periodic paralysis. His symptoms improved during the treatment with propylthiouracil and potassium replacement. We report a case of thyrotoxic periodic paralysis presenting as ventricular tachycardia with rief review of literatures (J Kor Soc Endocrinol 14:587-591, 1999).

Hereditary multiple exostoses (HME) patients frequently present with ankle valgus deformity and marked fibular shortening. Loss of the lateral buttress may cause translational talus instability (TTI) that manifests as ankle pain after physical exercise, medial clear space widening on plain radiographs, and gross translational movement of the talus within the mortise. Among 123 HME patients examined and/or surgically treated, 10 patients (14 ankles) with symptomatic TTI underwent fibular lengthening with osteochondroma excision. Twelve ankles of 9 patients were followed for >1 year after surgery. Total fibular length gain averaged 15.3 mm and distal migration of the distal fibular fragment averaged 5.5 mm. The mean medial clear space decreased from preoperative 6.7 mm to postlengthening 3.5 mm. Gross instability of the talus within the ankle mortise disappeared in all cases. AOFAS ankle-hindfoot score improved from preoperative 80.3 to 97.3 at the latest follow-up. The current study showed the fibular lengthening improved lateral ankle stability by providing lateral buttress on the talus and providing favorable short-term result by ameliorating exercise-induced ankle pain in TTI of HME. The authors carefully conclude that TTI is a rare but potentially disabling condition in HME patients, requiring special attention during follow-up of HME patients.Level of Evidence: Level IV.
