Objectives: Prehypertension is associated with a higher risk of developing hypertension compared with normotension. Yet, factors predicting the development of hypertension among prehypertensive people are ill-understood. This prospective cohort study was performed to examine if serum gamma-glutamyltrasferase (GGT) within a normal range can predict the future risk of hypertension among prehypertensive adults. Methods: Study subjects were 293 prehypertensive persons >30-years-of-age who participated in a community-based health survey in 2003 and who were followed up in 2008. Sex-specific quartiles of baseline serum GGT were used to examine association with 5-year hypertension incidence. Results: Baseline serum GGT within normal range predicted the risk of developing hypertension for 5 years only in prehypertensive women. Adjusted relative risks were 1.0, 3.7, 3.6, and 6.0 according to quartiles of baseline serum GGT (P for trend <0.01). This pattern was similarly observed in non-drinkers. However, serum GGT was not associated with incident hypertension in men. Different from serum GGT, baseline serum alanine aminotransferase, another well-known liver enzyme, did not predict the risk of incident hypertension in both genders. Conclusions: Even though baseline serum GGT within normal range strongly predicted the future risk of hypertension, it was observed only in women, Although underlying mechanisms of this association are currently unclear, serum GGT can be used to select a high risk group of hypertension in prehypertensive women.

For the automatic detection of pulmonary blood vessels, a new algorithm is proposed using the fact that human recognizes a pattern orderly according to their size. This method simulates the human recognition process by the pyramid images. For the detection of vessels using multilevel image, large and wtde ones are detected from the most compressed level, followed by the detection of small and narrow ones from the less compressed images with FCM(fuzzy c means) clustering algorithm which classifies similar data into a group. As the proposed algorithm detects blood vessels orderly according to their size, there is no need to consider the variation of parameters and the branch points which should be considered in other detection algirithms. In the detection of patterns whose size changes successively like pulmonary blood vessels, this proposed algorithm can be properly applied

Objectives: This article reviewed researches on intersectoral partnership of school health programs to suggest importance, current status and development plan of those. Methods: Domestic research papers were screened though Research Information Sharing Service (RISS), Koreanstudies Information Service System (KISS), Medical Library Information System (MEDLIS), Korean Medical Database (KMbase), and digital national assembly library. International papers were searched mainly via Pubmed. Results: Since intersectoral partnership is effective, comprehensive and universal approach for school health programs, many collaborative programs are universally progressing in various domain including smoking, alcohol, mental health and sexual behavior. On the other hand, intersectoral partnership of school health programs in Korea is still in the beginning stage, and there are few intersectoral partnerships. Moreover, there are several limitations including top-down approach, passive participation and lack of studies on the effect of intersectoral partnership. However, intersectoral partnerships in school health program including tuberculosis control system in school or WEE project are in progress, so it is worth looking forward in the future. Conclusions: To achieve successful intersectoral partnership in school health programs, appropriate partnership guideline for Korean society, policy support, active participation and improvement of consciousness in community stakeholders are needed.
혈청 Gamma-Glutamyltransferase에 따른 복부비만과 제2형 당뇨병간의 관련성: Korean Genome and Epidemiology Study

Objectives : This cross-sectional study was performed to examine if the serum gamma-glutamyltransferase (GGT) level that is within its normal range is associated with the risk of type 2 diabetes and if the association between the waist hip ratio (WHR) and type 2 diabetes is different depending on the serum GGT levels. Methods : The study subjects were 23,436 persons aged 40 years or older and who participated in regular health check-ups at 11 hospitals (males: 5,821, females: 17,615). The gender-specific quintiles of the serum GGT and WHR were used to examine the associations with type 2 diabetes. Results : The serum GGT levels within their normal range were positively associated with type 2 diabetes only in women. The adjusted odds ratios (ORs) were 1.0, 1.0, 1.4, 2.1, and 2.5 according to the quintiles of the serum GGT ($p_{trend}$<0.01). The WHR was more strongly associated with the prevalence of diabetes among the women with a high-normal serum GGT level as compared with those with a low-normal serum GGT level (p for interaction=0.02). For example, the adjusted ORs for women with a low normal serum GGT level were 1.0, 1.2, 1.5, 2.2, and 2.4 according to the quintiles of the WHR, while those figures were 1.0, 2.4, 3.6, 5.0, and 8.3 among the women with a high normal serum GGT level. However, in men, the serum GGT was very weakly associated with type 2 diabetes and the association between the WHR and type 2 diabetes was not different depending on the serum GGT level. Conclusions : Serum GGT within its normal range was positively associated with type 2 diabetes, and central obesity was more strongly associated with the prevalence of type 2 diabetes when the serum GGT level was highnormal. However, these associations were observed only in women, which is different from the previous findings. The stronger relation between central obesity and type 2 diabetes among women with a high-normal serum GGT level can be useful for selecting a group that is at high risk for type 2 diabetes irregardless of whatever the underlying mechanism is.

Objective. This study examined lung involvement in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and identified factors associated with airway disease (AD) and interstitial lung disease (ILD). Methods. A total of 507 RA patients were enrolled in a cross-sectional study. Lung involvement was assessed by high-resolution computed tomography scan. The patient groups were classified according to normal, AD, and ILD. Multinomial logistic regression analysis was performed to identify factors associated with AD and ILD. Results. The most frequent lung involvement was AD (38.3%) followed by ILD (12.6%). Old age (adjust odds ratio [aOR] 2.58, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.70 to 3.90 for AD; aOR 4.38, 95% CI 2.30 to 8.35 for ILD), male gender (aOR 2.57, 95% CI 1.22 to 5.42 for AD; aOR 5.48, 95% CI 2.20 to 13.65 for ILD) were factors associated with AD and ILD in RA patients. ILD was associated with short disease duration (aOR 0.30, 95% CI 0.14 to 0.62), AD was associated with high titers of anti cyclic citrullinated peptides antibodies (anti-CCP; aOR 1.61, 95% CI 1.07 to 2.44). Conclusion. AD was the most frequent lung involvement in patients with RA. Old age and male gender were both associated with AD and ILD. Short disease duration was associated with ILD. High titers of anti-CCP was associated with AD. (J Rheum Dis 2016;23:101-108)

The effect of inclination angle on the wet surface heat transfer and pressure drop characteristics of brazed aluminum heat exchangers is experimentally investigated. Three samples having different fin pitches (1.25, 1.5 and 2.0 ㎜) were tested. Results show that heat transfer coefficient is not significantly affected by the inclination angle. However, the friction factor increases as the inclination angle increases with negligible difference between the forward and backward inclination. Heat transfer coefficient increases as the fin pitch increases. However, the friction factor are the largest at the smallest fin pitch (P<SUB>f</SUB> = 1.25 ㎜), Possible explanation is provided considering the condensate drainage.
