In this paper, we investigated from the survey how the students, who have already experienced the mathematics R&E project, recognize it and then analyzed to find issues of it. Based on the result of survey and literature review, we developed the 4-step model of independent study reflecting the aims of mathematics R&E project and the characteristics of mathematical study. Furthermore, we analyzed the results obtained after it was applied to mathematics R&E project team which consisted of 4 students in a science high school, and then got the implications for the effective performance of mathematics R&E project. 본 논문에서는 수학 R&E 프로젝트 수행을 경험한 학생들의 수학 R&E 프로젝트에 대한 인식을 조사하여 수학 R&E 수행 상의 문제점을 분석하고, 이를 바탕으로 수학 R&E 프로젝트의 목적을 반영한 독자적 연구 4단계 모형을 개발하여 이를 과학 고등학교 학생 4명으로 구성된 수학 R&E 프로젝트 팀에 적용한 사례를 분석하였다. 그 결과 수학 R&E 프로젝트의 효율적 수행을 위한 시사점을 얻었다.
중국의 부상과 국제통화ㆍ금융질서의 미래: 자유주의 국제질서가 붕괴될 것인가?

It is often argued that China’s rise will bring about the collapse of the liberal international order. This is based on two features of China’s rise: the relative decline of U.S. hegemony and China’s being an illiberal country. However, this argument needs to be examined with regard to its logical reasoning and empirical foundation. We cannot tell logically that the decline of a liberal hegemonic country, the U.S., will necessarily end up with the collapse of the liberal international order. In this paper we take three instances exemplifying China’s rise in the field of international monetary and financial relations to examine their impacts on the liberal international order. First, the reform of the IMF and China’s rising power in it. After the global financial crisis China strongly argued for the IMF reform as a part of international monetary reform which caused the crisis, and now is the third most powerful state in the IMF in terms of its quota share and voting power. Second, China demanded that its currency, RMB, should be included in the currency basket of Special Drawing Rights(SDR). China made a variety of efforts to satisfy the criteria for the RMB inclusion into the SDR basket, and RMB is now an officially recognized international reserve currency. Third, China led an international effort to establish an international infrastructure investment bank and succeeded in launching the AIIB. AIIB can be perceived as China’s effort to transform its conventional bilateral and informal financial diplomacy towards a multilateral and institutionalized one. These instances show that rising China has been successfully accommodated into the liberal international order, rendering China to be its big stakeholder. As far as international monetary and financial relations are concerned, the liberal order has shown its flexibility and adaptability to accommodate a rising great power into it.
변방에서 중심으로?: 한국의 동북아 경제중심 건설을 위한 대외전략

South Korea is pursuing a new development vision of making the country an economic hub in Northeast Asia. The choice of this national development vision reflects the exhaustion of previous state-led, manufacturing-centered Korean development model which was manifested by the 1997-98 financial crisis. Various ideas and policy alternatives have been proposed for the realization of this vision. However, President Roh emphasized that the country's vision can only be fully realized when there is a community of peace and prosperity in Northeast Asia. Therefore, following the President's logic, South Korea's external strategy for the realization of its development vision hinges on two issues: the establishment of a multilateral security regime in Northeast Asia through the resolution of North Korea's nuclear problem and the creation of a regional economic community through the conclusion of Korea-Japan Free Trade Agreement. While the 6-party talk can provide a good opportunity for the initial development of Northeast Asia's multilateral security regime, Korea-Japan FTA can be a catalyst for the institutionalization of Northeast Asian economic integration. For the smooth development of a regional community, Northeast Asia is in need of a regional collective identity, to which South Korea can also contribute a lot.
Environmental Source of Arsenic Exposure

Arsenic is a ubiquitous, naturally occurring metalloid that may be a significant risk factor for cancer after exposure to contaminated drinking water, cigarettes, foods, industry, occupational environment, and air. Among the various routes of arsenic exposure, drinking water is the largest source of arsenic poisoning worldwide. Arsenic exposure from ingested foods usually comes from food crops grown in arsenic-contaminated soil and/or irrigated with arsenic-contaminated water. According to a recent World Health Organization report,arsenic from contaminated water can be quickly and easily absorbed and depending on its metabolic form, may adversely affect human health. Recently, the US Food and Drug Administration regulations for metals found in cosmetics to protect consumers against contaminations deemed deleterious to health; some cosmetics were found to contain a variety of chemicals including heavy metals, which are sometimes used as preservatives. Moreover, developing countries tend to have a growing number of industrial factories that unfortunately, harm the environment, especially in cities where industrial and vehicle emissions, as well as household activities, cause serious air pollution. Air is also an important source of arsenic exposure in areas with industrial activity. The presence of arsenic in airborneparticulate matter is considered a risk for certain diseases. Taken together, various potential pathways of arsenic exposure seem to affect humans adversely, and future efforts to reduce arsenic exposure caused by environmental factors should be made.
P-933 : Enhancement of hydrogen using steam methane reforming system with CO2 separation

A pelletized adsorbent was developed in order to capture the CO2 generated during methane steam reforming reaction. The best adsorbent was manufactured using the organic and inorganic binder. The CO2 breakthrough test on the adsorbent using the fixed bed reactor found that the amount of adsorption was very high at the reaction temperature of 750>700 >800℃ in the descending order. The cyclic operation at the end confirmed that the adsorbent has good reproducibility. Based on the results coming from the methane steam reforming and the CO2 breakthrough experiments, the basic design of the hybrid reaction process (steam methane reforming with CO2 separation) was set up. Hybrid reaction test using the device of the lab. revealed high hydrogen and low CO2 composition compared with the equilibrium composition of the steam methane reforming. In particular, an examination of the average composition through the repeated experiments of the hybrid reactions at the maximum adsorption temperature of the adsorbent of 750℃ found that hydrogen had 12 to 14% higher composition in the hybrid reaction compared with the methane steam reforming whereas the composition of CO2 was 6-8% lower.
Pyridoxine induced neuropathy by subcutaneous administration in dogs

To construct a sensory neuropathy model, excess pyridoxine (150 mg/kg s.i.d.) was injected subcutaneously in dogs over a period of 7 days. During the administrations period, the dogs experienced body weight reduction and proprioceptive loss involving the hindquarters. After pyridoxine administration was completed, electrophysiological recordings showed that the M wave remained at a normal state, but the H-reflex of the treated dogs disappeared at 7 days. The dorsal funiculus of L4 was disrupted irregularly in the axons and myelin with vacuolation. The dorsal root ganglia of L4, and sciatic and tibial nerves showed degenerative changes and vacuolation. However, the lateral and ventral funiculi of L4 showed a normal histopathologic pattern. Although this subcutaneous administration method did not cause systemic toxicity and effectively induced sensory neuropathy, this study confirmed the possibility of producing a pyridoxine-induced sensory neuropathy model in dogs with short-term administration.
