The best treatment modality of spontaneous intracerebral hematoma is still controversal. But stereotactic surgery can minimize the brain damage and be performed under local anesthesia. Recently we experienced 46 cases of spontaneous intracerebral hematoma which were operated using Z.D(Zamorano-Dujovny) stereotactic system and urokinase irrigation from November 1990 to April 1993. Before operation, computerized tomographic scanning was done to locate the hematoma, assess the amount, and to determine the stereotactic coordinates. The silastic tube was inserted after stereotactic evacuation of hematoma and urokinase irrigation was repeated every 6 to 8 hours until the hematoma was cleared up. The results were analysed and we concluded that we can substitute open craniectomy or conservative treatment for stereotactic evacuation of spontaneous intracerebral hematoma combined with urokinase irrigation in certain instances and can minimize the brain damage regardless the patient's general condition or past history.
메탄올을 이용하여 성장하는 Methylovorus sp. strain SS1이 생산하는 세포외 다당류

제한통성 메탄올 자호세균인 Methylovorus sp. strain SS1은 최적 성장 조건하에서는 소량의 세포외 다당류(EPS)를 생산하였지만, 질소원이 결핍된 성장 조건하에서는 성장속도는 느렸지만 다량의 EPS를 생산하였다. EPS는 배지내의 탄소대 질소 비율이 5.2일 때 가장 많이 생산되었다. EPS 생산을 위한 최적 온도는 30^{\circ}C.$이고 최적 pH는 6.5였다. EPS는 탄수화물과 단백질 및 약간의 피루브산으로 구성되어 있었고, 환원당으로는 다량의 포도당과 소량의 mannose가 존재하였다. 에탄올을 처리한 EPS(EPSae)에는 에탄올을 처리하지 않은 EPS(EPSbe)에 존재하던 피루브산이 존재하지 않았고, EPS보다 단백질의 양도 적고 점성도 낮았다. EPSbe의 점성은 NaCl에 의해 큰 영향을 받았는데, 0.5%(w/v) 농도의 NaCl 용액에서도 점성이 크게 떨어졌으며, 높은 온도에서는 점성이 비가역적으로 크게 증가하였다. Gel filtration 방법으로 조사한 EPSae의 분자량은 $2.5{\times}$10^6$ - $3.5{\times}$10^6$이었다. 냉동건조한 다당류를 전자현미경으로 관찰하였을 때, EPSbe는 섬유모양을 하였고, EPSae는 벌집모양의 망상구조를 하고 있었다. Mrthylov~orits sp. starin SSl, a restricted facultative methylotrophic bacterium. growing on methanol was found to produce small amount of extracellular polysaccharide (EPS) under the optimal growth conditions, while it produced large amount of the polysaccharide under nitrogen limihtion. The optimal ratio of carbon to nitrogen for EPS production were found to be 5.2. The optimal temperature and pH for EPS production were 30^{\circ}C.$ and 6.5, spectively. The EPS consisted of carbohydrate, protein and small amount pyruvic acid. The reducing sugars in the EPS consisted mainly of glucose and a small amount of mannose. The EP!; treated with ethanol (EPSae) was found to have several properties different from those of the EPS which was not treated with ethanol (EPSbe); the EPSae contained no pyruvic acid. It also contained less protein and showed much lower viscosity than the EPSbe. The viscosity of EPSbe was very sensitive to NaCl and decreased t;harply upon exposure of the polysaccharide to even 0.5% (wiv) NaCl solution. The viscosity, however, was increased irreversibly upon exposure of the saccharide to high temperature. The molecular weight of EPS was estimiited to be $2.5{\times}$10^6$ - $3.5{\times}*$10^6$ using Sepharose hB column chromatography. Scanning electron microscopy revealed that the lyophilized EPSbe and EPSae have a structure of thread-like fibers and a mesh-like structure resembling bee-hive, respectively.

Flow boiling heat transfer in small-diameter round tubes has been experimentally studied. The experimental apparatus consisted mainly of refrigerant pump, condenser, receiver, test section of a 1.67 mm inner-diameter round tube and pre-heater for control of refrigerant quality at the inlet of test section. To investigate the effect of bubble nucleation site characteristics of different tube materials, three different tubes of copper, aluminum and brass were used. The ranges of the major experimental parameters were 5∼30 kW/m2 of the wall heat flux, 0.0∼0.9 of the inlet vapor quality and the refrigerant mass flux was fixed at 600 kg/m2s. The experimental results showed that the flow boiling heat transfer coefficients in small tubes were affected only by heat flux, but independent of mass flux and vapor quality. The effect of tube material on flow boiling heat transfer was observed small.
플라즈마 표면처리에 의한 Silk/PLA 바이오복합재료의 계면접착

견섬유와 폴리라틱산(PLA) 사이의 계면접착 특성을 향상시키기 위하여 천연섬유 표면을 아르곤과 에틸렌 플라즈마로 각각 처리하였다. 플라즈마 표면처리 후, 견섬유의 표면 모폴로지와 접착이 크게 변화하였다. 다음의 여러 플라즈마 처리조건이 본 연구에 사용되었다: 10, 25, 50 그리고 150 W의 전력, 1, 3, 5, 7 그리고 10분의 처리시간 및 10과 50 sccm의 가스흐름속도, 플라즈마 처리된 Silk/PLA 바이오복합재료의 계면전단강도는 단섬유 micro-droplet debonding 시험방법으로 측정하였다. 결과는 Silk/PLA 바이오복합재료의 계면접착을 향상시키기 위한 최적의 플라즈마 처리 조건을 제공하여 주었다. Silk fibers were subjected to argon and ethylene plasma treatments in order to improve the interfacial adhesion with polylactic acid (PLA). After the plasma surface treatment, the surface morphology and surface adhesion of silk fibers to the PLA resin were largely changed. Various plasma treatment conditions were used in this work: 10, 25, 50, 100 and 150 W of electric power, 1, 3, 5, 7 and 10 minutes of treatment time, and 10 and 50 sccm of a gas flow rate. The interfacial shear strength of plasma-treated Silk/PLA biocomposites was measured by a single fiber micro-droplet debonding test method. The result provided an optimal plasma treatment condition to obtain the improved interfacial adhesion in the Silk/PLA biocomposites.
척추경 나사못을 이용한 불안정성 흉요추부의 수술적 치료

Recently, new designaed spinal fixation device using pedicle screw was introduced and there was a trend to use this posterior short segment instrumentation. In the surgical treatment of unstable thoracolumbar spine. various methods of instrumentation have been used for stabilization of the spine. correction of deformity and reductin of fracture. painless mobilization. A further aim is to avoid late malposition and to preserve mobility. Simultaneously. it provides immediate postoperative rehabilitation without rigid external support. The authors have treated 31 cases of unstable thoracolumbar spine using VSP and C-D instrumentation at our hospital from May 1989 to March 1992. We reported the result of clinical analysis of those system.

The authors report one case of akinetic mutism with obstructive hydrocephalus. The patient suffered from multiple shunt failures and shunt revision. After multiple shunt revision, the patient fell into an akinetic-mute state. She appeared awake but was no response to painful somatosensory, loud auditory or threatening visual stimuli and she required total nursing care. This behavioral syndrome was no response to shunt revision but we were able to successfully treat a case of akinetic mutism after combination theraphy of Bromocryptine and Ephedrine.
