The research is focused on relationship between body fat percentage and physical characteristics of women in age group between 20s and 30s who experience great deal of physical change such as marriage, pregnancy, delivery, breast-feeding, and etc. The research used physical measurement of two hundreds women: 50 women in their early twenties, 50 women in their late twenties, 50 women in their early thirties, and 50 women in their late thirties. The research provides base data for women clothing industry by observing relationship between physical figure and body fat percentage rate based on obesity study on body fat percentage, physical BMI, Rohrer Index, and Vervaeck Index. Followings are conclusion of the research. The older the ages, the shorter the height and the heavier the weight. Recognizable differences in circumference, thickness, and width rather than in length are found. Also recognizable increases in average body fat percentage and average physical characteristics by age have found. By observing body fat percentage and physical measurements, it was revealed that weight has more effect on body fat percentage than height in all ages. Circumference, width, and thickness have more impact than length measurements among physical measurements. Main body or upper body has more impact than legs and arms or lower body. Body fat percentage increase rapidly by ages. 2.0% of age 20-24, 20.0% of age 25?29, 28.0% of age 30?34, and 54.0% of age 35?39 were sorted as obesity.

This study establishes public self-consciousness, sociocultural attitudes toward appearance, and objectified body consciousness as causal variables to identify their direct or indirect effects. This study is an aggregate analysis of existing studies that reveals the relations of how these factors turn to be the image management behaviors. A survey was conducted on 962 women from the ages of 20 to 59 who live in the Daegu and Gyeongbuk areas. The data analysis was performed through programs such as AMOS 16.0 and SPSS 18.0 for Windows. The findings are as follows: first, public self-consciousness had a direct effect on the sociocultural attitudes toward appearance and on objectified body consciousness, whereas it affected image management behaviors directly or indirectly. This means that as women become aware of others` attention, they recognize the social importance of appearance, internalize ideal social standards, and observe and evaluate their own bodies from a third person`s viewpoint regarding the standards for a body required by society; in addition, these procedures lead them to manage their image behaviors. Second, the sociocultural attitudes toward appearance had a direct influence on objectified body consciousness; however, they had an indirect effect on image mana- gement behaviors. This demonstrates that body consciousness plays a role as a mediator between the sociocultural attitudes toward appearance and the image management behaviors. Third, it appeared that objectified body consciousness directly affected image management behaviors. Objectified body consciousness was identified as a causal variable that exerts immediate influence on image management behaviors where the more objectified body consciousness women objectified themselves as the body standards that created further image management behaviors.
미혼여성의 공적 자기의식과 신체관리행동의 관계 - 외모에 대한 사회문화적 가치의 내면화, 신체수치심의 매개효과 -

본 연구는 공적 자기의식이 외모에 대한 사회문화적 가치의 내면화에 영향을 주고 다시 신체수치심에 영향을, 신체관리행동에 영향을 미치는 과정을 뒷받침하는 연구가 될 것이며, 관련 변인에 미치는 경로와 상대적 영향력, 그리고 관계구조에 관한 정보를 제공할 것이다. 이를 위해 대구지역에 거주하는 20대 미혼여성 214명, 30대 미혼여성 132명을 대상으로 설문조사하였고, 총 346명의 자료를 분석하였다. 연구결과 얻어진 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 공적 자기의식은 외모에 대한 사회문화적 가치의 내면화에 직접적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났고, 외모에 대한 사회문화적 가치의 내면화는 신체수치심에, 신체수치심 역시 신체관리행동에 직접 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 공적 자기의식은 외모에 대한 사회문화적 가치의 내면화를 통하여 신체수치심에 간접적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났고, 외모에 대한 사회문화적 가치의 내면화는 신체수치심을 통하여 신체관리행동에 간접적으로 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 외모에 대한 사회문화적 가치의 내면화와 신체수치심에서 연령별 통계적으로 유의한 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다. The current study is to set up public self-consciousness, internalization of sociocultural values relating to appearance, and body shame as the causal variables; and identify the direct or mediator effects of variables and the differences depending on the ages. This study is of significance in covering the existing studies integratedly. Moreover, this aims to reveal the relations of how these factors turn to be the body management behaviors after all. A survey was conducted targeting 346 adult unmarried women at the age of 20 to 30 who live in Daegu and Gyeongbuk areas. The data analysis was performed through the programs such as AMOS 19.0 and SPSS 19.0 for Windows. The findings are as follows; First, Public self-consciousness had direct effects both on internalization of sociocultural values relating to appearance, and internalization of sociocultural values relating to appearance had direct effects both on body shame, and it appeared that body shame affected body management behaviors directly. Second, Public self-consciousness had an influence on body shame indirectly, also the internalization of sociocultural values relating to appearance had an influence on body management behavior indirectly. Third, Sociocultural values relating to appearance and body shame to have the most significant difference according to in age.
