        Significant roles of neuroinflammation in Parkinson’s disease: therapeutic targets for PD prevention

        Glial cells outnumber neurons in the brain and play important roles in the neuroinflammation that accompanies brain damage in neurodegenerative diseases. In Parkinson’s disease (PD), dopaminergic neuronal loss is accompanied by inflammatory changes in microglia, astrocytes, innate immune cells, and infiltrating peripheral immune cells. Neuroinflammation is probably a fundamental immune response to protect neurons from harm and compensate for neuronal damage, but at the same time, its neurotoxic effects exacerbate neuron damage. Furthermore, neuroinflammatory response is regulated by immune cells, such as microglia, astrocytes, and peripheral immune cells, and by cytokines and chemokines. Accordingly, it is crucial that we understand how such immune cells in the brain regulate neuroinflammatory responses in PD pathology. This review describes the roles played by glia-mediated neuroinflammation in PD, both good and bad, and the therapeutic strategies used to treat PD.

        한국 아쟁(牙箏)과 중국 알쟁(軋箏)의 악기학적 고찰

        아쟁(牙箏)은 현재까지 원형적인 형태를 간직하고 있는 동아시아의 지터류 찰현악기로 전통음악분야에서 뿐만 아니라 오늘날 창작 국악에서도 중요한 악기로 자리매김하고 있다. 기존 선행연구들을 살펴보면, 음악사적 연구의 자료가 충분치 않아 악기학적 연구가 활발히 이루어지지 않고 있었다. 본 연구는 아쟁의 악기학적 고찰을 위해 역사적으로 유래가 같은 중국 알쟁(軋箏)의 문헌기록과 음악도상(圖像)자료등을 통해 지터류 찰현악기의 기원, 악기의 형태, 연주자세를 살펴보았다. 분석결과 중국 알쟁과 한국 아쟁은 중국의 고대 전통악기인 축(筑)의 한 형태가 기원이 된 것을 알 수 있었다. 동류 지터류 찰현악기이지만 중국의 알쟁은 연주되는 목적과 장소에 따라 악기 형태가 달랐고, 연주자세도 서서 어깨에 고정시키거나 악기를 지면에 수평으로 고정시켜 연주하는 방법이 있었다. 한국의 아쟁은 고려 때 중국에서 전해진 악기의 형태와 바닥에 앉아서 받침대 위에 악기를 놓고 연주하는 방식이 지금까지도 큰 변화 없이 전승되어 왔다. 이번 연구를 통해 악기에 대한 이해도를 높이고 음악사적 의의를 찾아봄으로써 전통음악과 국악기에 대한 보존과 발전을 위해 작게나마 도움이 되길 바라며, 한국과 중국 전통악기 연구자들의 학문적 교류와 공동연구를 통해 악기학에 대한 다각도적 연구가 이루어지기를 기대한다. Ajaeng is the bowed string instrument among zither instruments in East Asia, which has a circular form to date, and it has established itself as an important instrument in today"s creative Gugak along with traditional music. Looking at previous prior studies, musical instrument studies have not been actively conducted due to insufficient data from musical history studies, and this study looked at the origin, form of musical instrument, and performance methods of zither bowed string instrument through historical records of Chinese Yazheng and music drawings. The analysis of various documents showed that Ajaeng originated from an ancient Chinese traditional musical instrument called Chuk. In terms of the performance style, the Chinese Yazheng had different musical forms depending on the purpose and location of the performance, and there was a method of standing up and fixing the musical instrument horizontally to the ground. Ajaeng in Korea has been handed down without much change in the form of musical instruments introduced in China during the Goryeo Dynasty and the way they sit on the floor and play on a pedestal. Through this study, we hope that it will help to preserve and develop traditional music and Korean traditional musical instruments by enhancing understanding of musical.

        마우스 수지상세포의 항원 제시 능력에 대한 이온화 규소수의 biphasic 면역조절 효과

        Biosilica is a silica-based substance derived from the cell walls (frustules) of diatoms. Recently, research into biosilica's biological functions is underway, but little has been reported on the effects of biosilica on immune cells. In this study, we investigated the effect of ionized biosilica water (iBW) on dendritic cells (DCs), which play crucial roles as antigen (Ag)-presenting cells. Treatment with iBW increased the expression of immune response-related markers, closely connected to the maturation of DCs, and the production of tumor necrosis factor-alpha. In addition, iBW-treated DCs (iBW-DCs) had a lower uptake of fluorescein isothiocyanate-dextran than that of control DCs. Mixed leukocyte response analysis used for measuring the Ag-presenting capability of DCs, showed iBW-DCs had a higher capability than that of control DCs. Interestingly, DCs treated with lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and iBW had a lower level of Ag-presenting capability than that of LPS-treated DCs. Taken together, the results indicate that iBW alone can mature DCs, but it decreases the Ag-presenting capability of DCs in the presence of LPS, a representative agent of inflammation. This study may provide valuable information regarding the effect of iBW on immune cells. Further research is needed to investigate how iBW induces the observed biphasic immunomodulatory activity.

        항암제 (5-fluorouracil, doxorubicin, vincristine)로 인한 비장세포의 면역억제에 대한 Bordetella bronchiseptica의 보호 효과

        5-Fluorouracil, doxorubicin, and vincristine are chemotherapy agents used to treat various cancers, such as breast cancer and lymphoma for decades, and their effects on cancer have been proven. On the other hand, these anti-cancer drugs cause fatal side effects, including immunosuppression. This study investigated whether sonicated Bordetella bronchiseptica bacterin (B. bronchiseptica) can attenuate the immunosuppression of spleen cells induced by these chemotherapy agents and which subsets of spleen cells were affected. B. bronchiseptica increased the metabolic activity of spleen cells treated with 3 anti-cancer drugs. Cell death analysis using Annexin V/propidium iodide showed that B. bronchiseptica markedly decreased the death of spleen cells. The subsets of spleen cells were analyzed by flow cytometry using a surface marker-specific antibody. B. bronchiseptica increased nitric oxide production in the spleen cells treated with anti-cancer drugs (p < 0.0001). Despite the pharmacological effects of anti-cancer drugs, many patients suffer from the fatal side effects of immunosuppression. This study provides valuable information on how to overcome chemotherapy-induced immunosuppression.

        서낙동강에서 동·식물플랑크톤의 총유기탄소 기여율 변동 분석

        Carbon biomass of plankton community, Total Organic Carbon (TOC) and Chlorophyll a (chl.a) concentration were examined in the SeoNakdong river from January to December in 2014, to assess composition of phyto- and zoo-plankton variation, to certify the correlation between chl.a and TOC and to determine the level of contribution of plankton carbon content to TOC in the reservoir-river ecosystem. The correlation level between TOC and chl.a was low in the year 2014 but exceptionally was highly correlated only during the period with cyanobacterial bloom. The high level of contribution of plankton carbon content to TOC was attributed to cyanobacterial carbon biomass from May to November and to Cladocera carbon biomass from March to May, November and December despite of its low abundance. These results suggest that there were inter-relationships between phytoplankton, zooplankton and TOC and also subtle consistency of their properties through the year. These patterns should be discussed in relation to the physiochemical and biological characteristics of the environment, as well as to allochthonous organic matters from non-point pollution sources.

        대학도서관에서의 정리업무 아웃소싱 품질관리에 관한 연구

        이 연구의 목적은 정리업무 아웃소싱을 시행하고 있는 대학도서관에서의 정리업무 품질관리 방안에 대해 논의하는 것이다. 이를 위해 선행연구를 조사하였고 실제 아웃소싱을 시행하고 있는 도서관에서의 품질관리현황에 대해 조사 분석하였다. 목록을 생산하고 품질을 관리하는 방식에 대해 논의하였고 정리 업무량의 변화를 분석하였다. 마지막으로 결론에서는 정리업무 아웃소싱의 품질 향상을 위해 다음을 제안하였다. (1) 품질에 대한 정의와 상세한 업무 매뉴얼을 개발하여 그에 따라 업무를 하도록 한다. (2) 자관의 핵심지식과 기술을 보유하고 이를 계속 전수할 수 있도록 한다. (3) 자체 교열시스템의 도입을 고려한다. (4) 도서관과 아웃소싱업체간의 긴밀한 의사소통을 유지한다. (5) 업체직원은 업무에 필요한 교육을 이수하도록 한다. This study was intended to investigate the quality control in technical services outsourcing in academic libraries. For this purpose, investigated related papers and the experience of outsourced technical services in three academic libraries. Data from senior librarians charged with revision of catalogs are gathered. Issues of catalogs production and quality control are explored and statistics of outsourcing is analysed. Quality control is a major factor of the success of technical services outsourcing operation. The some suggestions in order to enhance quality of vendor-supplied cataloging are presented.

        청소년기 비만지표와 초기 성인기 경동맥 내중막 두께와의 관련성: Kangwha Study

        Objectives : The aim of this study is to investigate the association between obesity indices(body mass index, weight, waist-hip ratio and waist circumference) in adolescents and the carotid intima-media thickness (C-IMT) in early adulthood. We also wanted to identify the best predictor for C-IMT among these obesity indices. Methods : This study used community-based prospective cohort study, known as the Kangwha Study, and the data we used were from subjects who were 16-years old in 1996 (defined as "adolescence") and 25 years-old in 2005 (defined as "early adulthood"). The 256 subjects (113 men and 143 women) who were used for analysis participated in both follow-ups, and they underwent B-mode ultrasonography of the carotid arteries at the early adulthood follow-up. Obesity indices were defined as the body mass index, weight, waist-hip ratio and waist circumference. The C-IMT was defined as the mean of the maximal IMT of each common carotid artery. The C-IMT and obesity indices associations were evaluated via multivariable regression, logistic regression and the receiver-operator characteristic curve analyses. Results : In men, all the obesity indices in adolescence were showed to have statistically significant positive association with C-IMT in early adulthood. However, no such relationship was showed in women. On multiple regression and logistic regression analysis, the waist-hip ratio showed the biggest relationship with the C-IMT among the 4 obesity indices. However, there were no statistical significant differences and no best predictor was found. For the women, the obesity incidences and C-IMT showed no relationships. Conclusions : This study suggested that obesity in adolescence was related to an increase C-IMT in healthy young Korean men.

        Fabrication of a Porous Ni-Based Metal with a Multi-pore Structure by a Screen Printing Process

        Porous metals are commonly considered as having relatively excellent characteristics, such as a large surface area, light,lower heat capacity levels, high toughness, and good permeability. Ni alloys have high corrosion resistance, good heat resistanceand chemical stability for high-temperature applications. In this study, porous Ni-based metals for hydrogen reformercatalyst support are developed with Ni alloys, in this case Ni–Cr powder (28 μm), NiO powder (2 μm), and a fine Ni powder(< 1 μm). Ni–Cr powders are spread onto Al2O3substrate by a printing process. Ni-based foam is then placed on the printedpowder and a loading plate. These are sintered at 1200 °C under a high vacuum condition. The NiO powder and the fine Nipowder slurry are then screen-printed sequentially on the double structure (NiCr-coated Ni foam). In this study, the fine Nipowder is printed one, three, and five passes. The porous Ni alloys, which have double-pore structure, triple-pore structureand quadruple-pore structure, are fabricated by screen printing processes. With increased stacking of the pore structure,the porosity decreased from 86 to 82%, and the pore sizes decreased from 6.25 to 0.3 μm. The porosity and pore size of themulti-pore structure can be controlled by the size of powder and screen printing process.

        벨 마비 급성기에 대한 매선요법 병행치료의 임상적 효과

        Objectives : This study was to investigate the effectiveness of thread-embedding therapy for the treatment of acute phase of Bell's palsy. Methods : Thread-embedding therapy was performed once a week on 29 patients within 1 weeks after the onset. We investigated the general characters, Yanagihara's score, House-Brackmann scale and FDI were used to evaluate the effectiveness of thread-embedding therapy. Results : Facial muscle recovery began at 13.37th day, that was about 0.36 day earlier than the previous patients who were treated without thread-embedding therapy in 2017 at the same hospital, but there was no statistical significance. In the change of each scale before and after treatment, Yanagihara's score, House-Brackmann scale, physical function and social function of FDI were changed significantly. Compared with the patients treated without thread-embedding therapy in 2017, Yanagihara's score was a little higher and House-Brackmann scale was a little lower. Conclusions : These findings suggested that thread-embedding therapy on acute phase of Bell's palsy was a little more effective than the conventional therapy without thread-embedding therapy.
