TatC-dependent translocation of pyoverdine is responsible for the microbial growth suppression

Infections are often not caused by a colonization of Pseudomonas aeruginosa alone but by a consortium of other bacteria. Little is known about the impact of P. aeruginosa on the growth of other bacteria upon coinfection. Here, cellree culture supernatants obtained from P. aeruginosa suppressed the growth of a number of bacterial strains such as Corynebacterium glutamicum, Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus, and Agrobacterium tumefaciens, but had little effect on the growth of Escherichia coli and Salmonella Typhimurium. The growth suppression effect was obvious when P. aeruginosa was cultivated in M9 minimal media, and the suppression was not due to pyocyanin, a well-known antimicrobial toxin secreted by P. aeruginosa. By performing transposon mutagenesis, PA5070 encoding TatC was identified, and the culture supernatant of its mutant did not suppress the growth. HPLC analysis of supernatants showed that pyoverdine was a secondary metabolite present in culture supernatants of the wild-type strain, but not in those of the PA5070 mutant. Supplementation of FeCl2 as a source of iron compromised the growth suppression effect of supernatants and also recovered biofilm formation of S. aureus, indicating that pyoverdine-mediated iron acquisition is responsible for the growth suppression. Thus, this study provides the action of TatC-dependent pyoverdine translocation for the growth suppression of other bacteria, and it might aid understanding of the impact of P. aeruginosa in the complex community of bacterial species upon coinfection.

능률이 가장 높은 수업 형태는 강의자와 학습자가 상호작용을 통하여 학습자의 자발적인 수업 참여를 유도하는 것으로 알려져 있다. 강의실 중심의 전통적인 수업은 상호작용을 지원하기에 체계나 시스템이 부족한 상태였다. 최근 정부의 정보화 사업의 하나로 학생들에게 태블릿이 제공될 예정이나, 강의 내용을 일방적으로 전달하는 데 그쳐 상호작용이 부족한 실정이다. 본 논문에서는 태블릿이 웹 서버를 이용하여 교사와 학생 간 상호작용을 돕는 것을 목적으로 하는 시스템을 제안한다. 제안된 시스템은 강의에 필요한 기능을 태블릿으로 제공함으로써 수업을 효율적으로 관리하게 하고, 웹 서버를 통한 즉각적인 상호작용이 가능하게 한다. It is well-known that inducing learner's spontaneous participation and teacher-student interaction are highly efficient way of teaching and learning. The traditional one-sided, teacher-centered lecture seemed to be inefficient systematically to support the interaction in classroom. Recently, the government was planning to provide the students with Tablet as a part of the informatization project, but it ended up providing only the content of the lecture, not allowing the interaction to occur in classroom. In this paper, we propose a system which aims to support interaction between a teacher and students by utilizing the Web server and Tablet.

With the expansion in the use of DC power systems and increased need for system maintenance, the development of measurement devices for maintenance requires high stability. Of the different kinds of DC current measurement devices, the single-shot measurement device causes the input signal of the current measuring unit to initially generate a high inrush current. The high inrush current flows into the signal processor of the meter, shortening the life of the internal fuses and causing failure. Therefore, in this study, the I<sup>2</sup>t value for increasing the durability of the fuse is designed using the available wire diameter. Operating characteristics for 210~400% over-current of the rated current, which is relatively low over-current, are realized by the plating of low melting tin metal. As a result, a method of designing a fuse element for a DC power supply, which improves the safety of the DC current measurement device by blocking the failure caused by the inrush current, is presented.
틱 장애의 한의학적 변증 및 한약치료 치험례에 대한 고찰

Objectives : This study analyzed domestic case reports of syndrome differentiation and herbal medicine treatment for tic disorder published from 2000 to 2018 and aimed to seize the latest trend of Korean herbal medicine treatment according to syndrome differentiation. Methods : We searched herbal medicine treatment of tic disorder through five major Korean academic literature databases; NDSL, KTKP, KISS, RISS, DBPIA. Results : 12 articles were included in this study from 49 articles. These studies were analyzed by year, evaluation criteria, Korean treatments, treatment effects, syndrome differentiation, herbal medication, duration of medication, and type of herbal medicine. Treatment results were assessed by YGTSS. Most cases accompanied Korean integrative treatments and only one case report used herbal medicine alone. Most common type of syndrome differentiation for patients was spleen. Duration of medication varied according to each case and decoction was the most used type of herbal medication. Conclusions : It has been reported that herbal medicine treatment according to the syndrome differentiation could be effective in treating tic disorder. This study suggests that additional studies will be required to justify classification of syndrome differentiation and the sole effectiveness of herbal medicine on tic disorder.

Biomass is a major carbon neutral energy source, but it is generally difficult to use as a fuel due to low energy density, high moisture content, and low heating value because of hydrophilicity. As one of the methods for overcoming these problems of biomass, research on torrefaction is continuously being performed. Through torrefaction, high energy density characteristics can be obtained by increasing the carbon content in the biomass, and moisture in the biomass can be removed, hydrophilicity can be changed to hydrophobicity, and the heating value can be increased. In addition, since a grindability of torrified biomass is improved, energy consumption is reduced 3 to 7 times when pulverizing biomass, thereby reducing costs of storage and transportation. In the domestic torrefied biomass market, laboratory-scale tests are being conducted in universities, but development for commercialization and demonstraion is still insignificant. In EU, demonstraion and commercial scale torrefaction technologies such as rotary drum, screw, moving bed, fluidized bed, multi-stage furnace, and conveyor belt types are being developed. This study analyzed the characteristics and R&D trends of biomass torrefaction technology, an upgrading fuel conversion technology from wasted herbaceous biomass for sustainable development.
