Vol.32 No.4

The purpose of this research was to enhance the understanding of scientific thinking of 5th graders of elementary school through conducting investigative analyses on the students` associations with regard to illustrations on science textbooks and to provide basic data that are needed for the teachers teaching science in classrooms to reorganize textbook illustrations suitable to the realities of science contents and realms. In order to achieve the research purposes, subject 5th grade students were asked to write down what they associated with the illustrations on the matter part of the 5th science textbooks of elementary school: among 14 illustrations, a half of them were after lessons and other half from before lessons. The types of students` learning goal statements according to Bloom`s taxonomy of educational objectives were compared with the learning objectives provided in teachers` guide. The differences between before and after lessons in associated words which students used responding to given illustrations were investigated. Students` responses were analyzed in terms of how their associations were consistent with what their preference of learning objectives would be as well. Students variables including their achievement levels and gender were used as group variables in order to locate their effects on differences in their associations before and after the lessons. It was found that students manipulated the given illustrations more variously with more explanations before the lessons than after. After the lessons students tended to describe the illustrations more homogeneously and made theirs stick on the given direction by the textbooks. The implications for how school teaching affected to students` perception was made.

Vol.58 No.4

The purpose of this paper is to examine Gary Snyder’s bioregionalism and reinhabitation movement in the Turtle Island, an original name of North America named by native Americans. Bioregionalism is to apprehend a certain area in terms of its animals, plants, geographic boundary, and watersheds. It is also to practice reinhabitating the place in terms of bioregional conditions. Reinhabitation is to dedicate ourselves to and steward the earth and the place. It means human and nonhuman, nature co-existing equally in the ideal life-community. Reinhabitating Turtle Island is to be a “born-again native of Turtle Island”. By learning the “Old Ways” of native Americans, people who reinhabitate the place become the members of the place, and become the members of the community. Being the member of the community is having the sense of “nativeness” of belonging to the place. Snyder wants to pass down the ways to reside in Turtle Island and desires next generations to continue dwelling in Turtle Island. Snyder tries to realize ecocentric egalitarianism in the ideal life-community where human and nature co-exist. Snyder also tries to practice the view of ecological democracy that nature should be given the due right as an equal member of the Earth, life-community.

Vol.9 No.-

This study aims at comparing Lacan`s psychoanalytic ethics with Levinas`s ethics of the Other, focusing on the concepts of the Other. First of all, the ethics itself will be discussed to find out how ethics is advanced mainly to find ways for the happiness of human beings and formulate the principles for the happy lives of people. The ethics will be proved to be bifurcated with two major trends: one of philosophical characteristics with its focus on the ways of achieving the highest good, and the other of Judaeo-Christian characteristics with its emphasis on the responsibility of the human beings in presence of the highest God. After explanation of these two trends in preparation for the Kantian aspects in Lacan`s psychoanalytic ethics and the Judaeo-Christian concepts of responsibility of the subject toward the other in Levinas`s ethics, Lacan`s ethics is defined in terms of the Lacanian concepts of ``objet a``, drives and ``separation``. With the explication of these concepts Lacan`s ethics proves to be focusing on reclaiming the subject of aphanisis(disappearance) which is usually unacknowledged both by ego psychology and the subject himself. Ego psychology commits mistakes in its focus on ego only, instead of the unconscious, and the subject neglects his true ``objectified`` self in the form of ``objet a`` by regarding his fantasied versions of this ``objet a`` as his true selves. In the process, the figure of Antigone is presented as a truly ethical figure who claims her own desire to bury the dead brother in response to the call of ``objet a``. Levinas` ethics of the ``Other`` is discussed in connection with Heidegger to show Levinas` emphasis on the ethics` need to focus more on concrete relations of the self with the other than on the Heideggerian ontological approaches to the Being. Levninas`s ethics is explained in terms of his various concepts such as ``there is,`` ``hostage, ``fatigue,`` ``vigilance,````dwelling,`` ``responsibility for the Other,`` ``proximity to the Other,`` etc. These concepts will be shown how Levinas regards the subject or the self as someone to be wholly dependent on the Other to the degree that the self is regarded as something to be transcended or overcome for the sake of the Other. In conclusion, it is pointed out that by appearance Lacan`s psychoanalytic ethics and Levinas`s ethics have a lot in common, such as their focus on the concept of the Other, their insistence on the open structure of the woman as the Other, the splitting phenomena of language in the forms of ``saying`` and ``the said,`` etc. However, they are revealed to be much apart in the sense that while the Other is the supreme being for the self to be sacrificed for in Levinas`s ethics, Lacan tries to reclaim the self which is lost because of ``the lack in the Other`` and present the lost part of the subject, ``objet a`` in connection with the unconscious and the woman which are usually neglected as secondary by consciousness-oriented philosophy and psychology. In a word Lacan is making efforts to present ethics which tries not only to encompass what is regarded as incidental to the major discourses of society but to reveal how the subject and the public discourses are dependent on the other, ``objet a`` around which they form their fantasies and discourses in an effort to cover over the lack(undefinability) of ``objet a`` as an empty structure.

Vol.61 No.9

This paper proposes an automatic measurement sampling method for the semiconductor manufacturing process. The method recommends sampling rates using information of process capability indexes and production scheduling plan within the restricted metrology capacity. In addition, it automatically controls the measurement WIP (Work In Process) using measurement priority values to minimize the measurement risks and optimize the measurement capacity. The proposed sampling method minimizes measurement controls in the semiconductor manufacturing process and improves the fabrication productivity via reducing measurement TAT (Turn Around Time), while guaranteeing the level of process quality.

The effort to overcome the problems of capitalism is not only ``scientific socialism``. The experiment of Robert Owen is always followed by the modifier of ``fantastic`` or ``utopian``, but it is necessary to shed new light on his experiment as ``the cooperative community``, out of the dichotomy of ``revolution or reaction`` and ``revolution or reform``. The experiment of Owen on the New Lanark and New Harmony is the result of trying to solve the basic contradiction of capitalism, not by competition but by cooperation. It was continued to not only the peasant consumers` cooperation, the movement of a Divine Land, and the socialism of the Love on Kagawa Toyohiko, but also the peasant association, the movement of the village of Jesus on Bae Munsik, Yu Jaeki, and Choi Munsik built the ``Association of Christian Agricultural Study``. The ``Peasant Cooperative Association``, the ``Cooperative Cultivation Kye``, and the ``Independent-Peasantry Village`` of the Chosunnongminsa (of the Ch`ondogyo Youth Party) is also the experiment based on the cooperative community to get over the theory of competition of the capitalism, not on the violent revolution. The essence of the theory of cooperative community is the theory of peasant cooperative education, and the Folk High School (Folkehøgskole) of N. F. S. Grundtvig, not focused on the elite, but focused on the peasants. This influenced on the Nationary High School to build peasant cooperative community of Uchimura Kanzo and Kagawa Toyohiko during the period of Taisho democracy in Japan. And this also influenced on the High Agricultural School, and the Peasant Self-culture School of christian corollary, and on the Peasant School of the Ch`ondogyo corollary. The experiment of cooperative communitarian to dream and practice the another way to stand against the capitalism is the present progressive form, not the perfect tense as the movement of Japanese Coop and Mondragon of Spain.

The objective of this study was to develop a stock that can be used to make a variety of dishes. For this, stock was prepared with beef, chicken, and pork meat as animal meats as well as anchovy, mushroom, and sea tangle as other ingredients. The qualities of six[only four though] kinds of stocks made with beef only (B), beef and chicken (BC), beef and pork (BP), and beef added with chicken and pork (BCP), and seven kinds of stocks made with anchovy (A), mushroom (M), sea tangle (S), anchovy and mushroom (AM), anchovy and sea tangle (AS), mushroom and sea tangle (MS), and anchovy added with mushroom and sea tangle (AMS) were investigated by sensory evaluation. The most preferred stock made with animal meat was mixed with the most preferred stock made with other ingredients at a 5% level to test the synergistic effects of palatability. As a result, BCP stock and AMS stock obtained the highest scores for overall preference. BCP stock within the range of 30%- 65% along with the mixed stock containing AMS (35%-70%) showed synergistic effects for palatability.
