        Characteristics of turban shell Batillus cornutus. as a food component was investigated to establish the data. to use more effectively. Proline. glutamic acid. taurine and glycine were abundant in raw turban shell and those were consisted of 55.1% of the total amino acids. IMP and inosine were dominant in raw while those were decreased significantly during canning. Succinic acid. pyroglutamic acid and malic acid were abundant in raw and canned ingredients while the contents were decreased notably during canning. The polyenic acid such as arachidonic acid and EPA were abundant and followed by saturates and monoenes. in that order. Na. Mg. K and Ca were predominant in raw turban shell while those contents were decreased considerably during canning.

        기관지천식에 관한 인터넷 정보 : 현황과 그 개선방향

        Background: Recent advances in the Internet have enabled patient to search for large amounts of medical information. The Internet is easily accessible, but available information is under no guidelines or regulations in Korea. Objective: We evaluated the quality of information related to bronchial asthma on the Internet and the role in patient education with simple search technique. Method: The search phrases “bronchial asthma” were entered into four common Internet search engines. As indicated by the search engines, web sites and the 50 most commonly encountered web documents were reviewed. An information score (IS) from Libertiny et al. was modified to assess how well the web page educated the patient about the disease. Result: Of 110 web sites and documents, 109 were accessible. 41 (37.6%) web sites and documents were pub lished by private practice groups. The overall mean information score was 3.606, and only 10 (9.2%) sites had useful patient-oriented information (IS>10). Differences in IS between 8 subgroups were not significant (P=0.075). Misleading or unconventional therapeutic recommendations were recognized in 11 (10.1%) and 24 (22%) sites, respectively. Conclusion: Patient-oriented bronchial asthma information is difficult to find on the Internet in Korea. The overall quality is poor. About one third presented information that was classified as misleading or unconventional, especially in oriental medicine sites. There is an urgent need to develop proper asthma patient educational programs, guidelines for medical web site evaluation and gateways to high quality Internet-based medical resources.

        Siglec-8: 천식의 호산구성 염증과기도개형에 대한 새로운 치료적 접근

        Eosinophil is an important therapeutic target in the management of asthma due to their important role in airway inflammation, induction of airway hyperresponsiveness and their recently described role in airway remodeling. One such strategy targeting eosinophils is to target receptors expressed by eosinophils that might mediate the resolution of eosinophilic inflammation. One candidate receptor expressed by eosinophils is Siglec-8. Siglec-8 belongs to the CD33-related Siglec (CD33rSiglec) family, which are a subclass of Siglecs defined by their mutual sequence similarity (share about 50-80% sequence similarity), and clustered gene localization (chromosome 19q in humans). The cytoplasmic domain of the Siglec-8 contains immunoreceptor tyrosine-based inhibition motifs (ITIMs), suggesting that this molecule possesses inhibitory functions. In vitro studies demonstrated that cross-linking Siglec-8 receptors on eosinophils induced an apoptotic signal through the sequential production of reactive oxygen species (ROS), followed by induction of mitochondrial injury and caspase cleavage. In vivo studies using Siglec-F (functional paralog of Siglec-8) deficient mice demonstrated that Siglec-F deficient mice challenged with inhaled allergen significantly enhanced levels of eosinophilic airway inflammation as well as delayed resolution of eosinophilic inflammation. Administration of an anti-Siglec-F antibody significantly reduced levels of allergen induced eosinophilic airway inflammation and features of airway remodeling by reducing the production and increasing the clearance of eosinophils in murine model of asthma. Although further studies are needed to elucidate the precise role of Siglec- 8, the results of these studies suggest that targeting of Siglec-8 may be a novel therapeutic approach for asthma and other allergic disease.

      • 赤色筋魚類와 白色筋魚類의 組織化學的 硏究 : 1. 凍結筋肉 破碎片의 差異 1. Difference of Homogenated Muscle Fiber by Freezing

        赤色筋 魚類로서 방어, 고등어, 전갱이와 白色筋 魚類로서 조기, 갈치, 병어에 대하여 凍結에 의한 변화 調査의 하나로 homogenate의 현미경 실험에서 신선상태에서 魚種에 따른 筋纖維의 외관상 差異는 白色筋魚類는 두터웁고 짧았으며 赤色筋 魚類는 가늘고 긴 편이었다. 신선상태의 筋肉 homogenate에서 조기는 myofibril level로 파쇄되나 실모양으로 엉켜졌으며 고등어는 myofibril level로 파쇄되나 짧게 짤려 졌었다. 1個月 貯藏 後의 筋肉의 homogenate는 응집되거나 彈力性 消失을 볼 수 있었는데 白色筋魚類가 赤色筋 魚類보다 그 현상이 심한 편이었다. As a survey of changes by freezing for red muscle fishes yellow tail(Seriola quinqueadiata), mackerel(Scomber japonicus), horse markerel(Trachurus japonicus)-and white muscle fishes-yellow corvenia(Pseudosciaena manchuria), cutlass fish(Trachurus lepturus), harvest fish(Pampus argenteus), microscopic test for homogenate were carried out. In the difference of microscopic external shape of muscle fiber between these two groups, white muscle fishes were thick and short while red muscle fishes are thin and long. In the fresh muscle homogenate, yellow corvenia was fragmented to myofibril level and intermixed as thread while mackerel was also fragmented to myofibril level, but it was cut into tiny pieces. Muscle homogenate after one month freezing storage showed either cohesion or loss of elasticity. This phenomena were more apparent in white muscle fishes than red muscle fishes.

      • 저염농도의 자리발효식품의 가공에 관한 연구

        This study was carried out to obtain the basic data on salted and fermented damsel fish(Jari-Jeot), one of the important traditional marine foods in Cheju-Do. and also to seek salt lowering method for the development of a new local tourist food. The results are as follows : The best organoleptic results were obtained after 60 days' fermentation for 25.0, 12.5 and 10% of salt-added group, and around 45 days for 7.5 and 5% of salt-added group. In raw fish ingredient IMP was abundant which marked 17.7 μmole/g while in fermented fish hypoxanthine was predominant but ATP and ADP were not detected after 30 days' fermentation. Sixteen kinds of free amino acids were detected and identified in Jari-Jeot instead of 17 kinds of those in raw sample. The abundant amino acids in Jari-Jeot after 60 days' fermentation were lysine. alanine, glutamic acid, glycine and leucine, and those were consisted of approximately 60% of the total free amino acids. During fermentation the content of TMAO was decreased gradually and no TMAO was detected after 75 days' fermentation while that of TMA was increased during fermentation up to 45 days' and decreased afterwards. The fatty acid of low-salt Jari-Jeot was composed of 31.9% of saturated acids, 13.2% of monoenoic acids and 54. 9% of of polyenoic acids. While the content of EPA in polyenoic acids was 1.9%, that of DHA was 23.0%. In order to lower salt concentaration of fermented damsel fish, additon of Pediococcus halophilus culture as a starter together with 10-12.596 of salt, 4-5% of KCI, and 2% of glucose gave as good quality as traditionally made Jari-Jeot.

        CCR3 Monoclonal Antibody Inhibits Eosinophilic Inflammation and Mucosal Injury in a Mouse Model of Eosinophilic Gastroenteritis

        Purpose: Although the role of eosinophils in eosinophilic gastroenteritis (EGE) is not fully understood, they are believed to be a principal effector cell. Previous studies have demonstrated that eotaxin and its specific receptor, cysteine-cysteine chemokine receptor-3 (CCR3), play a central role in eosinophil trafficking into the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. Thus, we examined the targeting of CCR3 as a potential therapeutic intervention for EGE in a mouse model. Methods: Eight- to 10-week-old BALB/c mice were intraperitoneally sensitized and intragastrically challenged with ovalbumin (OVA). Different groups of mice were administered either an anti-CCR3 antibody or a control IgG by intraperitoneal injection 1 hour before each OVA challenge. Eosinophilic inflammation in the intestinal mucosa, mucosal injury, and severity of diarrhea were compared between different groups at 1 hour after final OVA challenge. Results: Anti-CCR3 antibody reduced the number of eosinophils in peripheral blood and intestinal mucosa, but not in bone marrow. This reduction was associated with restoration of reduced villous crypt ratio, increased intestinal epithelial cell proliferation, and weight loss induced by OVA challenge. However, Anti-CCR3 antibody had no effect on the level of OVA specific immunoglobulin E (IgE) and the expression of critical chemokines or cytokines in eosinophil trafficking into the GI tract, such as eotaxin-1, interleukin (IL)-5, and IL-13. Conclusions: Anti-CCR3 antibody significantly reduced the severity of eosinophilic inflammation, mucosal injury, and diarrhea in a mouse model of food allergeninduced GI eosinophilic inflammation. CCR3 may be a novel therapeutic target for treatment of EGE and other GI eosinophil-mediated diseases.

        Some Numerical Cases of Entanglement Concentration Using Entanglement Swapping

        The quantum information network is important in establishing next-generation technology. In particular, maximal and long-distance entangled states are important in realizing a number of quantum information technologies, such as teleportation, key distribution and so forth. Entanglement swapping is a scheme that creates a long-distance network by using multiple short ones. Entanglement swapping protocols applied to non-maximal correlations have been thoroughly investigated by various people. Rather than providing any new analytic results, some examples of a numerical approach will be provided in this paper. In particular, the paper reveals the existence of different classes of coefficients that approximate the optimal outcome ({\it i.e.}, the weaker average maximal entanglement between the two initial states). The new class of states is non-trivial in the sense that their coefficients are just as widely distributed as the coefficients of states satisfying optimality conditions are. Moreover, we will numerically examine entanglement swapping methods and show the distribution of optimal and general coefficients for three and four 2-level correlations.

        The Effects of Short-Term and Very Short-Term Particulate Matter Exposure on Asthma-Related Hospital Visits: National Health Insurance Data

        Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of short-term and very short-term exposure to particulate matter(PM) exceeding the daily average environmental standards for Korea (≤100 μg/m3 for PM10 and ≤50 μg/m3 for PM2.5) on on asthma-related hospital visits. Materials and Methods: This was a population-based, case-crossover study using National Health Insurance and air pollutiondata between January 1, 2014 and December 31, 2016. The event day was defined as a day when PM exceeded the daily averageenvironmental standard (short-term exposure) or daily average environmental standard for 2 hours (very short-term exposure). The control day was defined as the same day of the week at 1 week prior to the event day. Results: Compared with control days, asthma-related hospital visits on the 24-hr event days and 2-hr event days increased by4.10% and 3.45% for PM10 and 5.66% and 3.74% for PM2.5, respectively. Asthma-related hospital visits increased from the 24-hrevent day for PM10 to 4 days after the event day, peaking on the third day after the event day (1.26, 95% confidence interval, 1.22–1.30). Hospitalizations also increased on the third day after the event. While there was a difference in magnitude, PM2.5 exposureshowed similar trends to PM10 exposure. Conclusion: We found a significant association between short-term and very short-term PM exposure exceeding the current dailyaverage environmental standards of Korea and asthma-related hospital visits. These results are expected to aid in establishingappropriate environmental standards and relevant policies for PM.

      • 패류의 동결에 관한 연구 : 1. 소라의 동결

        To obtain the basic data for utilizing topshell, the changes of quality as pH, drip, free water content, water holding capacity, texture and color difference in shelled and frozen products during storage was studied. It was noticed that the pH of all frozen products (-10℃ and -35℃) were not changed markedly. Thaw exudate(drip) and free water content were increased as the storing period prolonged. The content of thaw exudate was risen slightly while free water content for all frozen products was increased notably marked 2.5 times in comparison with raw ones after 3 months storage. The water holding capacity for all frozen products were fell down steadily, it showed down 10% level at final stage of storage on the base of raw materials. It was revealed that the hardness and toughness were leveled up until the time of 2 months storage and then decreased moderately. There was not a significant change in elasticities and the degree of cohesiveness droped for all frozen storing periods. The color differences, expressed as L value mere reduced, the values of a and b were not changed markedly while the values of ΔE was increased as the frozen peried was extended.
