생후 3일에서 7일 사이의 신생아 79명을 대상으로 하여 혈청내 T4및 TSH치를 측정하여 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 1.신생아 T4의 평균치는 9.44+-0.29ug/100ml를 나타내었으며 전체의 94.9% (75명)이 성인의 T4 정상치인 5~13ug/100ml에 속하는 것을 알 수 있다. 2.신생아 TSH의 평균치는 4.23+-1.56uIU/ml를 나타내었으며 전체의 96.3%(76명)가 성인의 TSH 정상치인 10uIU/ml이하를 보임을 알 수 있다. 3.신생아의 성별 T4, TSH의 평균치를 비교하여 볼 때 통계학적으로 유의한 차이는 없었다. 4.신생아의 체중별 T4, TSH의 평균치를 비교하여 볼 때 통계학적으로 유의한 차이를 볼 수 없었다. The incidence of congenital hypothyroidism is about 1 in 7,000 (Hobel, 1980) and it is believed to be an cause of the mental ratardarton. Early diagnosis and treatment of congenital hypothyroidism is critical to the prevention of severe mental retardation. Thus, there is a need for further study and improvement in screening tests of hypothyroidism. This study was conducted to evaluate values of serum T4 and TSH in Korean neonates at the age of 3~7 days. Seventy-nine neonates were recruited from Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Yonsei University College of Medicine and Jeil Hospital. Serum T4 and TSH values were measured by specific and sensitive radioimmunoassay. Results obtained are as follows: 1.The average T4 value was 9.44+-0.29ug/100ml. T4 values obtained from 43 neonates (54.4% of the total sample population) were in 9.0~10.9ug/100ml, which was highest distribution of neonates. 2.THe average TSH value was 4.23+-1.56uIU/100ml. TSH values obtained from 24 neonates (30.3% of total sample population) were in 2.0~2.9uIU/ml, which was highest distribution of neonates. 3.There was no sex difference in serum T4 and TSH values in male and female neonates. 4.No significant correlation was observed between birthweight and serum T4 and TSH values in Korean neonates. It might be, therefore, concluded that serum levels of T4 and TSH in 3~7 days Korean neonates were not significantly different from normal values of Korean adult and there were no sex and weight differences in serum T4 and TSH of Korean neonates.

It has long been known that lactoferrin prevents human beings from infection of virus. To prove this activity of lactoferrin, we evaluated the activities of different lactoferrins to an isolate human rotavirus K-21. Bovine lactoferrin inhibited infection of K-21 to MA-104 cell at the concentration of $25.9\;{\mu}M$ whereas bovine hydrolysed lactoferrin prevented rotavirus infection at $103.8\;{\mu}M$. However human lactoferrin prevented infection of K-21 at the concentration of $217.5\;{\mu}M$. These data suggested that lactoferrin activity may be unaffected by the intestinal digestive enzymes and bovine lactoferrin is more active than human lactoferrin with respect to prevention of rotavirus infection.

A previous study in humans demonstrated the sustained inhibitory effects of donepezil on acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activity; however, the effective concentration of donepezil in humans and animals is unclear. This study aimed to characterize the effective concentration of donepezil on AChE inhibition and impaired learning and memory in rodents. A pharmacokinetic study of donepezil showed a mean peak plasma concentration of donepezil after oral treatment (3 and 10 mg/kg) of approximately 1.2 ± 0.4 h and 1.4 ± 0.5 h, respectively; absolute bioavailability was calculated as 3.6%. Further, AChE activity was inhibited by increasing plasma concentrations of donepezil, and a maximum inhibition of 31.5 ± 5.7% was observed after donepezil treatment in hairless rats. Plasma AChE activity was negatively correlated with plasma donepezil concentration. The pharmacological effects of donepezil are dependent upon its concentration and AChE activity; therefore, we assessed the effects of donepezil on learning and memory using a Y-maze in mice. Donepezil treatment (3 mg/kg) significantly prevented the progression of scopolamine-induced memory impairment in mice. As the concentration of donepezil in the brain increased, the recovery of spontaneous alternations also improved; maximal improvement was observed at 46.5 ± 3.5 ng/g in the brain. In conclusion, our findings suggest that the AChE inhibitory activity and pharmacological effects of donepezil can be predicted by the concentration of donepezil. Further, 46.5 ± 3.5 ng/g donepezil is an efficacious target concentration in the brain for treating learning and memory impairment in rodents.

Rotaviruses belong to Reoviridae causes diarrhea in human beings as well as domestic animals. This study was conducted to see what type of human rotaviruses are distributed in Seoul and Kyung-gi province. Twenty two of 81 patients showed rotavirus positive with diagnostic kit and RNA electropherosis. We isolated all of rotaviruses from the patients. Electropherotypes of 22 isolates showed 4:2:3:2 pattern whereas those migration patterns were long type. All of those isolates belonged to group A. Twenty out of 22 isolates reacted with monoclonal antibodies specific to G1, P1A and subgroup II, whereas rest of them, A-29 and K-30 reacted with subgroup I specific monoclonal antibody. The nucleotide sequence of an isolate K-21 showed $98{\sim}100%$ and $90{\sim}96%$ homologies with those of Wa and KU strain, respectively.

The paper presents how to update impedance control parameters for dual-arm manipulators using EMG signals and motions of the operator. Since the hand motions of the dual-arm are modeled to be the mass-spring-damper system in this paper, the impedance parameter update method is an important issue to reflect the operator’s force. However, task space inertia to be used as the mass parameter goes to infinity if the manipulator approaches a kinematic singularity. To alleviate this issue, the impedance (stiffness and damping) parameters are divided with a diagonal element of the task space inertia. Also, the stiffness and damping matrices are updated using the normalized EMG signals captured from the operator’s forearm. Through this process, the motion of the dual-arm manipulator is more stabilized even though it approaches the kinematic singularity.
