        Purpose: Many university students are under a lot of job-seeking stress because the employment rate is low. This study sought to determine the relationship between job-seeking stress, self esteem, self efficacy and appearance management behavior amongst university students focusing on nursing. Methods: This descriptive correlational study evaluated the relationships between job-seeking stress, self esteem, self efficacy and appearance management behavior of 340 university students was conducted between September 1 and October 5, 2015. Results: The correlational analysis between job-seeking stress, self esteem, self efficacy and appearance management behavior revealed a negative correlation between job-seeking stress, self esteem and self efficacy and a positive correlation between job-seeking stress and appearance management behavior. In addition, age also correlated with self esteem, self efficacy and appearance management behavior. Conclusion: Stress correlated with self esteem and self efficacy and appearance management behavior. Therefore job-seeking stress may be reduced through not only self esteem and self efficacy enhancement programs but also management according to age.

        This study was to investigate the adsorption and movement of Napropamide in soil. In order to find out the adsorption and movement characteristics of Napropamide in soils of sand loam (soil A), silt clay(soil B), and loam (soil C), batch and column tests were performed with respect to shaking time variation, adsorption isotherm, and breakthrough curve. The shaking time to reach the adsorption equlibrium of Napropamide was 12 hours. Freundlich isotherm was fit for the adsorption of Napropamide in soils. soil B had the highest adsorption coefficient of Napropamide, soil Ca and B followed at adsorption isotherm. The slope of breakthrough curve of soil A had the steep, soil C and soil B followed at the adsorption curve. The moving velocity of Napropamide in soils was the lowest of soil B because of its highest adsorption of Napropamide.

      • 섬진강수계의 이화학적 수질특성

        In order to investigate the physicochemical water quality in Seomjin river basin, water quality analysis was undertaken at 11 sites in the main river and side stream from March 1996 to Fab. 1997. The concentration of BOD, SS, DO, T-N, T-P, and E. coli were 0.4~2.6mg/ℓ, 1.0~24.5mg/ℓ, 6.0~13.8mg/ℓ, 0.218~2.928mg/ℓ, 0.002~0.098mg/ℓ, and 15~500MPN/100㎖, respectively. Heavy metals were not detected in sampling sites. The lower parts of Yo-cheon is the most polluted stream among the main river and side stream in Seomjin river basin. In Seomjin river basin, annual average pollution loads in ton/year were estimated to be 1,660.32 of BOD, 6,151.86 of SS, 1,421.80 of T-N, and 28.91 of T-P. It was found that Seomjin river basin was not polluted to any troublesome level for water supply, industrial, irrigation and fishery purposes.

        정신분열병 환자에서 얼굴 영상의 작동기억 장애 : 기능자기공명영상연구

        Objectives : Impaired processing of facial information is one of the broad ranges of cognitive deficits seen in patients with Schi-zophrenia. We aimed to elucidate the differences in brain activities involved in the process of facial working memory between schizophrenic patients and healthy comparison subjects. Methods : Twelve patients with schizophrenia were recruited along with twelve demographically matched healthy volunteers as a comparison group. Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) was used to assess cortical activities during the Perfor-mance of a 2-back working memory paradigm using images of neutral faces as mnemonic content. Rcsults : The patient group performed the tasks with reduced accuracy. Group analysis revealed that the left fusiform gyrus, the right superior frontal gyrus, the bilateral middle frontal gyri/insula, the left middle temporal gyrus, the precuneus, the quadrangular lobules and the vermis of cerebellum showed decreased cortical activities in the patient group. On the other hand, an increased level of activation in the lateral prefrontal cortex and the pahetal lobule was observed from the patient group, all in the right hemisphere. Conulusion : A decreased level of activity in the left fusiform gyrus among the patient group implicates inefficient processing of facial information. An increased level of activation in prefrontal and parietal neural networks from the patient group confirms earlier findings on the impaired working memory of patients with schizophrenia.

        Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) is a life-threatening syndrome characterized by the classic pentad of clinical features that includes microangiopathic hemolytic anemia, thrombocytopenia, neurologic abnormalities, fever, and renal dysfunction. Early diagnosis and utilization of plasmapheresis can improve the survival rates of patients with TTP. TTP rarely may be seen in association with autoimmune disease such as systemic lupus erythematous (SLE). We report here a 42-year-old female who was presented with severe digital gangrenes, microangiopathic hemolytic anemia, thrombocytopenia, neurologic abnormalities, fever, and renal dysfunction. Her condition responded to combined therapy with high dose steroid, immunosuppressants, and plasmapheresis therapy.

        정신분열병의 인지적 표지자와 Catechol-O-Methyltransferase Val158Met 유전자 다형성의 연합연구

        Objectives : Catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT) gene has been identified as a positional and functional candidate gene of schizophrenia. Although specific mechanism of increasing schizophrenia susceptibility by this gene has not been well described yet, recent studies suggest that the valine allele of COMT Val158Met polymorphism may contribute to cognitive decline in schizophrenia. The present study investigated the association between this polymorphism of COMT gene and cognitive markers related to schizophrenia in both schizophrenia patients and normal controls. Methods : The subjects were 78 patients with schizophrenia diagnosed by DSM-IV and 97 normal controls. Comprehensive neurocognitive tests for which performance deficits have been reported in schizophrenia were administered. Genotyping for COMT Val158Met polymorphism was done with SNapShot method. Association analyses between genotype and cognitive functions were performed using ANCOVA and MANCOVA. Results : In the comparison of allele frequencies between patient and control groups, no significant association between the polymorphism and schizophrenia was observed. Significant differences of cognitive performance among genotype groups were not identified in control group. This trend was also observed in the patient group. In the combined analysis of both patient and control groups, there was no significant genotype or genotype-by group effect on any cognitive function measure. Conclusion : These findings do not support a major role of COMT gene in the regulation of the cognitive processes of schizophrenia.

        유아의 행동문제와 유아교육기관 적응력, 또래관계, 자아탄력성 및 마음이론 간의 관계분석

        본 연구의 목적은 유아의 행동문제와 유아교육기관 적응력, 또래관계, 자아탄력성, 및 마음이론 간 의 관계를 분석하고 유아의 행동문제에 영향을 미치는 예측변인을 밝히는데 있다. 본 연구의 연구대상 은 유치원에 재원중인 만 5세 유아 153명으로 평균 월령은 66.05개월 이였다. ‘K-CBCL 1.5-5’와 유 아교육기관 적응력 검사도구(PAQ)’, ‘또래관계 검사도구(PIPPS)’, ‘자아탄력성 검사도구(DECA)’, ‘ 마 음이론 검사도구를 사용하여 연구자료를 수집하였으며 수집된 자료는 Pearson 적률상관계수와 단계적 중다회귀를 통해 검증하였다. 연구결과, 유아의 내재화, 외현화 행동문제는 또래관계에 유의미한 정적 상관이 있는 것으로 나타났으며, 자아탄력성, 유아교육기관 적응력, 마음이론에 유의미한 부적상관이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 유아의 내재화 행동문제에 있어서는 유아교육기관 적응력이 유의미한 부적 예 측변인으로 나타났으며, 유아의 외현화 행동문제에 있어서는 자아탄력성, 또래관계, 마음이론이 유의미 한 부적 예측변인으로 나타났다. This study investigated the relationships among young children’s problem behavior and peer relation, ego-resilience, preschool adaptation, theory of mind. Subjects used in this study were 153 young children whose mean age of 66.05 months, and who were attended in eight kindergartens. Research instruments used in collecting data were ‘Child Behavior Check List preschool 1.5-5’, ‘Penn Interactive Peer Play Scale(PIPPS)’, The Devereux Early Childhood Assessment(DECA), ‘The Preschool Adjustment Questionnaire(PAQ)', and lastly, ’Theory of Mind’. The collected data were analyzed through SPSS 18.0 program. Pearson’s correlation and Stepwise Multi-Regression Analysis were used to analyze the data. The results of this study were as follows: First, there were positve correlations between young children’s problem behaviors and peer relationship. Second, there were negative correlations between young children’s problem behaviors and ego-resilience, preschool adaptation and theory of mind. Third, preschool adaptation were found to be predictable variables affecting young children’s internalizing problem behavior and peer relation, ego-resilience, and theory of mind were found to be predictable variables affecting young children’s externalizing problem behavior.

        Clinical Course and Outcomes of Patients with Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 Infection: a Preliminary Report of the First 28 Patients from the Korean Cohort Study on COVID-19

        Background: Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2)-infected pneumonia emerged in Wuhan, China in December 2019. In this retrospective multicenter study, we investigated the clinical course and outcomes of novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) from early cases in Republic of Korea. Methods: All of the cases confirmed by real time polymerase chain reaction were enrolled from the 1st to the 28th patient nationwide. Clinical data were collected and analyzed for changes in clinical severity including laboratory, radiological, and virologic dynamics during the progression of illness. Results: The median age was 40 years (range, 20–73 years) and 15 (53.6%) patients were male. The most common symptoms were cough (28.6%) and sore throat (28.6%), followed by fever (25.0%). Diarrhea was not common (10.7%). Two patients had no symptoms. Initial chest X-ray (CXR) showed infiltration in 46.4% of the patients, but computed tomography scan confirmed pneumonia in 88.9% (16/18) of the patients. Six patients (21.4%) required supplemental oxygen therapy, but no one needed mechanical ventilation. Lymphopenia was more common in severe cases. Higher level of C-reactive protein and worsening of chest radiographic score was observed during the 5–7 day period after symptom onset. Viral shedding was high from day 1 of illness, especially from the upper respiratory tract (URT). Conclusion: The prodromal symptoms of COVID-19 were mild and most patients did not have limitations of daily activity. Viral shedding from URT was high from the prodromal phase. Radiological pneumonia was common from the early days of illness, but it was frequently not evident in simple CXR. These findings could be plausible explanations for the easy and rapid spread of SARS-CoV-2 in the community.

      • Enhancing the Wound Healing Effect of Conditioned Medium Collected from Mesenchymal Stem Cells with High Passage Number Using Bioreducible Nanoparticles

        <P>Injecting human mesenchymal stem cells (hMSCs) at wound sites is known to have a therapeutic effect; however, hMSCs have several limitations, such as low viability and poor engraftment after injection, as well as a potential risk of oncogenesis. The use of a conditioned medium (CM) was suggested as an alternative method for treating various wounds instead of direct hMSC administration. In addition to not having the adverse effects associated with hMSCs, a CM can be easily mass produced and can be stored for long-term, thereby making it useful for clinical applications. In general, a CM is collected from hMSCs with low passage number; whereas, the hMSCs with high passage number are usually discarded because of their low therapeutic efficacy as a result of reduced angiogenic factor secretion. Herein, we used a CM collected from high passage number (passage 12, P12) hMSCs treated with gold-iron nanoparticles (AuFe NPs). Our AuFe NPs were designed to release the iron ion intracellularly via endocytosis. Endosomes with low pH can dissolve iron from AuFe NPs, and thus, the intracellularly released iron ions up-regulate the hypoxia-inducible factor 1α and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) expression. Through this mechanism, AuFe NPs improve the amount of VEGF expression from P12 hMSCs so that it is comparable to the amount of VEGF expression from low passage number (passage 6, P6), without treatment. Furthermore, we injected the CM retrieved from P12 MSCs treated with AuFe NPs in the mouse skin wound model (AuFe P12 group). AuFe P12 group revealed significantly enhanced angiogenesis in the mouse skin wound model compared to the high passage hMSC CM-injected group. Moreover, the result from the AuFe P12 group was similar to that of the low passage hMSC CM-injected group. Both the AuFe P12 group and low passage hMSC CM-injected group presented significantly enhanced re-epithelization, angiogenesis, and tissue remodeling compared to the high passage hMSC CM-injected group. This study reveals a new strategy for tissue regeneration based on CM injection without considering the high cell passage count.</P>
