        A Multi-Center Educational Research Regarding Breastfeeding for Pediatrics Residents in Korea

        Purpose: Pediatricians have a significant responsibility to educate mothers about the importance of breastfeeding. However, there have been minimal efforts in the courses of resident training in Korea. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the change in knowledge and attitude before and after a 4-week breastfeeding educational intervention among multicenter residents. Methods: Prospective interventional educational research was designed for residents at eight training hospitals in Korea. Institutional reviews were obtained in each hospital. The education curriculum consisted of 14 courses regarding breastfeeding theory and practice. These materials were used to teach pediatric residents for 4 weeks. Knowledge-based tests were administered before the course, and re-tests were administered after the course using different test items of similar levels. Test scores and survey responses were compared before and after the intervention. Results: A total of 73 residents (1st year 20, 2nd year 23, 3rd year 16, and 4th year residents 14) from eight training hospitals completed the intervention. Their average age was 30.3±2.9 years, 17 (23.3%) were male, 22 (30.1%) were married, and eight had more than one child of their own. The mean pre-test score was 61.8±13.4 and the mean post-test score was 78.3±7.5 (P<0.001). The inter-grade difference in the score was significant in the pre-test (P=0.005), but not significant in the post-test (P=0.155). There were more responses of obtaining confidence after the intervention (P<0.001). Conclusion: In our study, pediatric residents showed improvement in their knowledge and confidence level after 4 weeks of the breastfeeding curriculum.         The main purpose of Information Systems is to provide the meaningful information to user for the effective decision making. Whether the information is meaningful or not is solely dependent on user's judgment, and then user participation is very critical factor for the system success. Through literature reviews of user participation we may understand the benefits of user participation. Most reviews are focusing on traditional system development under the mainframe environment instead of under end user computing environment. End user computing environment requires user's strong initiatives in the system development life cycle. It means the user's simple participation is not enough and user-led-development is more appropriate for the system success. We can call this new concept is user joint work which means user has to participate in the system development as a co-developer. This paper explains how the user joint work contributes system performance.

        Recently Web 2.0 is becoming a new trend of digital economy, and the core of Web 2.0 is UCC(User Created Contents). There are 3 components in its characteristics; Participation, Openness, Dispersion. In addition we have a lot of supporting technology for Web 2.0 such as API(Application Programming Interfaces), Tagging, Folksonomy, RSS(Really Simple Syndication), AJAX(Asynchronous Javascript + XML) etc.. The purpose of this paper is to provide a guideline for understanding and implementing Web 2.0 and UCC. UCC have been used widely over 1-2 years on Internet, and we enjoy various UCC anytime, anywhere. Despite its popularity, we see possible problems; Created Commons License, Digital Rights Management, Enhancing Quality of Contents. For successful implementation of Web 2.0, it is essential to set up appropriate regulation and provide strategic support.

      • 스티렌 暴露 動勞者의 生物學的 監視 및 腎臟障害에 對한 硏究

        Two field studies were conducted on workers exposed to low level of styrene. The objective of first study was evaluation of variations of urinary mandelic acid and phenylgly-oxylic acid on 17 male-workers and 9 female-workers for 2 days, and that of second study was for evaluation of correlation between styrene exposure and urinary metabolites for 73 male-workers and 8 female-workers whose urines were sampled at end-shift and next morning. The results were as follows; 1. The mean values of urinary mandelic acid and phenylglyoxylic acid were increased as working time within 3 hours, between 4-6 hours, and between 7-9 hours elapsed. 2. The regression analysis of the urinary mandelic acid and phenylglyoxylic acid with time showed trend that urinary metabolites incresed more rapidly in higher exposure group. 3. The correlation coefficients between styrene in air and metabolites in next morning urine were higher than those in end-shift urine. But, the correlation coefficients between ,styrene in air and metabolites in end-shift urine of the total samples were higher than those in next morning urine of non-smoking workers or non-drinking workers. 4. Only the stryene in air was independent variable which was statistically significant in multiple regression on urinary metabolites by styrene in air, smoking, and drinking. The slope was steeper in using the sum values of metabolites in end-shift urine as dependent variable than in using others. But the R square value was greater in using phenylglyoxylic acid in next morning urine as dependent variable than in using others. 5. There was no significant correlation between the styrene in air and n-acetyl-β-glucosaminidase activity in urine. The smoking or drinking habit had no significant effect in the correlation. The smoking and drinking habit would be considered in determination of time of urine sampling about urinary mandelic and phenylglyoxylic acid as biological monitoring of workers exposed to styrene. Because the correlations beween air styrene and urinary metabolites in next morning urine were higher than those in end-shift urine in smoking or drinking workers.

        IT and e-business is a hot issue of the world business and economic communities. The web site is the portal through which most of electronic transactions are conducted today. The main purpose of this paper is to investigate on factors influencing the web site development at the firms in Korea. Survey questionnaires were distributed via email & post to 281 firms that have implemented web site. Out of 44 responded questionnaires, 39 data sets were available for statistical analysis with SPSSWin 10.1. Factor analysis identified five dimensions of web site development : (1) support of top management, (2) information technologies maturity, (3) strategic utilization of web site, (4) strength of rivalry among competing firm, (5) support policy of the government. Results of this study show that information technologies maturity and strategic utilization of web site positively influence on web site development. But support of top management, strength of rivalry among competing firm and support policy of the government don't influence on web site development. This study may provide a guideline to improve the quality of web site development.

      • 급성 구강감염부위에서 Staphylococcus lugunensis 의 특성

        Staphylococcus lugdunensis (S. lugdunensis) is a newly identified pathogenic species of coagulase negative staphylococci and an occasional but not rare cause of severe infections, such as infective endocarditis after dental extraction, bacteremia, osteomyelitis, peritonitis, and soft tissue infections. As antibiotic use increased, resistance rapidly developed. Some strains have plasmids related to antibiotic resistance. To characterize S. lugdunensis in acute oral infection, S. lugdunensis was isolated from the patients with acute oral abscess, osteomyelitis, and normal persons. Antibiotic resistance, in vitro cellular toxicity, in vivo virulence, δ-like hemolysin activity, and synergistic hemolysis on sheep blood agar plates were investigated. The dot blot analysis and Southern blot analysis of staphylococcal DNA was performed with δ-hemolysin gene probe of Staphylococcus aureus. (S. aureus) Staphylococcal DNA was cloned, nucleotide sequence was analysed, and homology was compared with other sequence in Gene Bank. S. aureus, S. lugdunensis, Staphylococcus cohnii (S. cohnii), and other coagulase negative staphylococci (CNS) were isolated from the patients with acute oral infection. The isolation ratio of S. lugdunensis in the patients with infection was higher than that of healthy persons, but the isolation ratio of S. aureus in the patients with infection was similar to that of healthy persons. S. lugdunensis from the patients with acute oral infection showed the resistance to penicillin, methicillin, cephalothin, and clindamycin. S. lugdunensis in the patients had cellular toxicity in vitro and virulence in vivo. All strains of S. lugdunensis had δ-like hemolysin activity against rabbit erythrocytes. Four of the six strains of S. lugdunensis gave synergistic hemolysis with S. aureus on sheep blood agar plates. In dot blot analysis, all strains of S. lugdunensis showed the positive reaction with the probe of δ-hemolysin gene in S. aureus, but a 7.3 kb HindⅢ fragment was observed in the DNA of S. lugdunensis that gave synergistic hemolysis in a Southern blot analysis. The molecular size of partially purified δ-hemolysin was about 50 kd. The cloned fragments from the chromosomal DNA of S. lugdunensis showed the partial homology with the insulin receptor-related and dopamine receptor of humans. These results suggest that S. lugdunensis might be an important pathogen in acute oral infection and show some homology with eukaryotes.
