        Deficit irrigation and silicate spray applied since blooming period improved strawberry fruit quality without reducing fruit size

        The drought stress created by defi cit irrigation has been widely introduced into production for fruit quality improvement, whilst silicon is considered as a functional element in plant antistress process. To explore the infl uence of defi cit irrigation and silicon application on the strawberry fruit quality and the plant’s response to drought stress, a split-plot experiment was conducted. The impacts of the treatments start-time was also evaluated. The plants were subjected to two irrigation regimes, defi cit irrigation (DI) or full irrigation, and two foliar sprays, 0.01 mol L − 1 Na 2 SiO 3 (Si) or water, with two treatment start-time, as after fi rst bloom (Fr) or after transplanting. Therefore, there were 6 diff erent treatments (consider ing treatment start-time) and a control group, which were DI, FrDI, Si, FrSi, DISi, FrDISi and CK. As a result, the DI signifi cantly increased the leaf ascorbate, leaf anthocyanins and specifi c leaf weight by 93.5%, 109.9% and 24.5%, but it also reduced fruit reducing sugars concentration and single fruit mass by 25.1% and 12.6%, respectively. Whilst the FrDI increased specifi c leaf weight by 27.9% and had no negative eff ect on fruit quality. The timing of starting silicate spray didn’t infl uence leaf morphology or fruit quality, but the FrSi signifi cantly increased the percentage of leaf sucrose to total sugars by 9.0%, and the Si didn’t. The DISi and FrDISi tended to increase the concentration of fruit sugars, glutamate, polyphenols, and organic acids. Although the DISi showed more obvious eff ect on improving the fruit nutritive values, the FrDISi tended to have lighter negative impact on fruit size, compared to CK. We concluded that the combination of defi cit irrigation and silicate spray started after the fi rst bloom could eff ectively improve the fruit sugars, glutamate and polyphenols, without reducing the fruit size, due to the mitigation of plant antistress response.

      • Study on Innovation in Chinese Time-honored Enterprises Based on Organizational Routine

        Evolutionary economics has become the focus of the international academic community since the end of the 20th century. Organizational routine is the core concept of evolutionary economics, and it is also the analysis unit on organization innovation. Chinese time-honored enterprises are the precious treasures of Chinese traditional business, witnessing the development history of Chinese economy. Unfortunately, many living time-honored enterprises have gotten into trouble, and one of the most important reasons is the lack of innovation. The study on innovation in Chinese time-honored enterprises from the perspective of organizational routines is of significance in both theoretical and practical area. This article explains the connotation of organizational routine, analyze the main characteristics of organizational routine, and researches into the evolutionary pa고 of organizational routine. In the framework of organizational routine, this paper studies the status of innovation in Chinese time-honored enterprises, and gives the corresponding strategies.

        Toward mindful development of action learning in business education

        This article addresses questions raised at a recent academic discussion of action learning for business education: What are the pitfalls of existing action learning practices? How do educators mindfully and effectively develop action learning in business education? To examine these issues, we provide an overview of, and analyze, the evolution of ongoing action learning programs established by a leading Chinese business school with its partner schools in the US from 2007 to 2019. Based on this qualitative case study, we reveal implicit pitfalls of existing practices, propose an experiential learning-based conceptual framework for an in-depth understanding of curriculum design, and provide instructional guidelines for better implementation. All the findings help educators mindfully embed action learning essentials into an educational curriculum and innovate the educational policy of teaching pedagogies.

        Development and Application of a Rapid and Simple Loop-mediated Isothermal Amplification Method for Food-borne Salmonella Detection

        A loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) method for rapid detection of the food-borne Salmonella strains had been developed and evaluated in this study. The optimal reaction condition was found to be 65℃ for 45 min, with the detection limit as 1 pg DNA/tube and 100 CFU/reaction. Application of LAMP assays was performed on 214 food-borne Salmonella strains using a rapid procedure and easy result confirmation, where the specificity of LAMP and polymerase chain reaction (PCR)assays was 97.7% (209/214) and 91.6% (196/214),respectively; with a 100% specificity for both assays.

        Rapid Detection of Vibrio parahaemolyticus Strains and Virulent Factors by Loop-mediated Isothermal Amplification Assays

        A loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) method for rapid detection of the foodborne Vibrio parahaemolyticus strains and related virulent factors had been developed and evaluated in this study. Six primers, including outer primers, inner primers, and loop primers, were specially designed for recognizing 8 distinct sequences on 3 target genes, which were tlh, tdh, and trh. The detection limits were found to be 100, 100 fg, and 1 pg DNA/tube for tlh, tdh, and trh, respectively. Application of LAMP assays were performed on 368 foodborne V. parahaemolyticus strains, the sensitivities of LAMP assays for the tlh, tdh, and trh were 100, 95.6, and 96.4%, and the negative predictive values (NPV) were 100, 84.7, and 93.1%, respectively; with a 100% specificity and positive predictive value (PPV) for all 3 target genes.
