      • Analysis-Based Nonlocal-Approximate Sparsity Representation in Image Processing

Xiaowei He,Li Zhang,Jiping Xiong 보안공학연구지원센터 2016 International Journal of Signal Processing, Image Vol.9 No.9

1l norm is a popular regularizer in various linear inverse problems including image processing, compressed sensing and machine learning. But the non-zero entries of the sparsity solution obtained by 1l are independent with each other, which always leads to biased result to real solution. Actually, there always exist some different correlations among those non-zero entries in an image signal domain or various analysis domains. In this paper, based on a simple observation that the non-zero entries of the sparsity vector in various image analysis domains should be also approximate when the relevant signal values are proximate, we proposed a nonlocal-approximate sparsity regularizer in analysis domains by minimizing the sum of the 2l norms of those vectors with the same nonzero pattern like signal vectors. This regularizer is applied to image denoising, edge detecting, inpainting and decomposition models successively. The numerical experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of our method in terms of PSNR, visual effect and edge preserving.

Nonlinear FEA of higher order beam resting on a tensionless foundation with friction

        He, Guanghui,Li, Xiaowei,Lou, Rong Techno-Press 2016 Geomechanics & engineering Vol.11 No.1

A novel higher order shear-deformable beam model, which provides linear variation of transversal normal strain and quadratic variation of shearing strain, is proposed to describe the beam resting on foundation. Then, the traditional two-parameter Pasternak foundation model is modified to capture the effects of the axial deformation of beam. The Masing's friction law is incorporated to deal with nonlinear interaction between the foundation and the beam bottom, and the nonlinear properties of the beam material are also considered. To solve the mathematical problem, a displacement-based finite element is formulated, and the reliability of the proposed model is verified. Finally, numerical examples are presented to study the effects of the interfacial friction between the beam and foundation, and the mechanical behavior due to the tensionless characteristics of the foundation is also examined. Numerical results indicate that the effects of tensionless characteristics of foundation and the interfacial friction have significant influences on the mechanical behavior of the beam-foundation system.

Hysteretic behavior studies of self-centering energy dissipation bracing system

        Long-He Xu,Xiaowei Fan,Dengcheng Lu,Zhong-Xian Li 국제구조공학회 2016 Steel and Composite Structures, An International J Vol.20 No.6

This paper presents a new type of pre-pressed spring self-centering energy dissipation (PS-SCED) bracing system that combines friction mechanisms between the inner and outer tube members to provide the energy dissipation with the pre-pressed combination disc springs installed on both ends of the brace to provide the selfcentering capability. The mechanics and the equations governing the design and hysteretic responses of the bracing system are outlined, and a series of validation tests of components comprising the self-centering mechanism of combination disc springs, the friction energy dissipation mechanism, and a large scale PS-SCED bracing specimen were conducted due to the low cyclic reversed loadings. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed bracing system performs as predicted by the equations governing its mechanical behaviors, which exhibits a stable and repeatable flag-shaped hysteretic response with excellent self-centering capability and appreciable energy dissipation, and large ultimate bearing and deformation capacities. Results also show that almost no residual deformation occurs when the friction force is less than the initial pre-pressed force of disc springs.

      • Image Processing Model with K-support Norm

Junli Fan,Xiaowei He 보안공학연구지원센터 2015 International Journal of Signal Processing, Image Vol.8 No.4

In recent years, l1 norm is usually considered as the regularization term in the field of sparse representation. However, the non-zero entries obtained by the l1 regularization term always neglect the correlations with each other. In fact, different relationships or structures among non-zero entries are necessary in many applications. K-support norm is firstly proposed in the field of sparse prediction. The most important property of the k-support norm is grouping feature of the largest entries in the obtained solution. In this paper, we present a new image processing model by introducing the k-support norm to image gradient domain. The proposed model can be applied to image denoising and edge detection simultaneously. Some examples demonstrate the effectiveness of the novel model and its improvements.

        Qiang Gao,Zhicheng He,Xu Jia,Yinghong Xie,Xiaowei Han 한국인터넷정보학회 2023 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.17 No.3

Aiming at the serious occlusion and slow tracking speed in pedestrian target tracking and recognition in complex scenes, a target tracking method based on improved YOLO v5 combined with Deep SORT is proposed. By merging the attention mechanism ECA-Net with the Neck part of the YOLO v5 network, using the CIoU loss function and the method of CIoU non-maximum value suppression, connecting the Deep SORT model using Shuffle Net V2 as the appearance feature extraction network to achieve lightweight and fast speed tracking and the purpose of improving tracking under occlusion. A large number of experiments show that the improved YOLO v5 increases the average precision by 1.3% compared with other algorithms. The improved tracking model, MOTA reaches 54.3% on the MOT17 pedestrian tracking data, and the tracking accuracy is 3.7% higher than the related algorithms and The model presented in this paper improves the FPS by nearly 5 on the fps indicator.

Inductances Evaluation of a Squirrel-Cage Induction Motor with Curved Dynamic Eccentricity

Lv, Qiang,Bao, Xiaohua,He, Yigang,Fang, Yong,Cheng, Xiaowei The Korean Institute of Electrical Engineers 2014 Journal of Electrical Engineering & Technology Vol.9 No.5

Eccentricity faults more or less exist in all rotating electrical machines. This paper establishes a more precise model of dynamic eccentricity (DE) in electrical machines named as curved dynamic eccentricity. It is a kind of axial unequal eccentricity which has not been investigated in detail so far but occurs in large electrical machines. The inductances of a large three-phase squirrel-cage induction machine (SCIM) under different levels of curved DE conditions are evaluated using winding function approach (WFA). These inductances include the stator self and mutual inductances, rotor self and mutual inductances, and mutual inductances between stator phases and rotor loops. A comparison is made between the calculation results under curved DE and the corresponding pure DE conditions. It indicates that the eccentricity condition will be more terrible than the monitored eccentricity based on the conventional pure DE model.

      • Root hair‐specific expansins modulate root hair elongation in rice

        ZhiMing, Yu,Bo, Kang,XiaoWei, He,ShaoLei, Lv,YouHuang, Bai,WoNa, Ding,Ming, Chen,Hyung‐,Taeg, Cho,Ping, Wu Blackwell Publishing Ltd 2011 The Plant journal Vol.66 No.5

<P><B>Summary</B></P><P>Root hair growth requires intensive cell‐wall modification. This study demonstrates that root hair‐specific expansin As, a sub‐clade of the cell wall‐loosening expansin proteins, are required for root hair elongation in rice (<I>Oryza sativa</I> L.). We identified a gene encoding <I>EXPA17</I> (<I>OsEXPA17</I>) from a rice mutant with short root hairs. Promoter::reporter transgenic lines exhibited exclusive <I>OsEXPA17</I> expression in root hair cells. The OsEXPA17 mutant protein (OsexpA17) contained a point mutation, causing a change in the amino acid sequence (Gly104→Arg). This amino acid alteration is predicted to disrupt a highly conserved disulfide bond in the mutant. Suppression of <I>OsEXPA17</I> by RNA interference further confirmed requirement for the gene in root hair elongation. Complementation of the <I>OsEXPA17</I> mutant with other root hair EXPAs (OsEXPA30 and Arabidopsis EXPA7) can restore root hair elongation, indicating functional conservation of these root hair EXPAs in monocots and dicots. These results demonstrate that members of the root hair EXPA sub‐clade play a crucial role in root hair cell elongation in Graminaceae.</P>

The 14-3-3 Gene Function of Cryptococcus neoformans Is Required for its Growth and Virulence

( Jingbo Li ),( Yun C. Chang ),( Chun Hua Wu ),( Jennifer Liu ),( Kyung J. Kwon Chung ),( Sheng He Huang ),( Hiro Shimada ),( Rob Fante ),( Xiaowei Fu ),( Ambrose Jong ) 한국미생물 · 생명공학회 2016 Journal of microbiology and biotechnology Vol.26 No.5

Cryptococcus neoformans is a life-threatening pathogenic yeast that causes devastating meningoencephalitis. The mechanism of cryptococcal brain invasion is largely unknown, and recent studies suggest that its extracellular microvesicles may be involved in the invasion process. The 14-3-3 protein is abundant in the extracellular microvesicles of C. neoformans, and the 14-3-3-GFP fusion has been used as the microvesicle’s marker. However, the physiological role of 14-3-3 has not been explored. In this report, we have found that C. neoformans contains a single 14-3-3 gene that apparently is an essential gene. To explore the functions of 14-3-3, we substituted the promoter region of the 14-3-3 with the copper-controllable promoter CTR4. The CTR4 regulatory strain showed an enlarged cell size, drastic changes in morphology, and a decrease in the thickness of the capsule under copper-enriched conditions. Furthermore, the mutant cells produced a lower amount of total proteins in their extracellular microvesicles and reduced adhesion to human brain microvascular endothelial cells in vitro. Proteomic analyses of the protein components under 14-3-3-overexpressed and -suppressed conditions revealed that the 14-3-3 function(s) might be associated with the microvesicle biogenesis. Our results support that 14-3-3 has diverse pertinent roles in both physiology and pathogenesis in C. neoformans. Its gene functions are closely relevant to the pathogenesis of this fungus.
