        Comparison between Craniospinal Irradiation and Limited-Field Radiation in Patients with Non-metastatic Bifocal Germinoma

        Purpose Whether craniospinal irradiation (CSI) could be replaced by limited-field radiation in non-metastatic bifocal germinoma remains controversial. We addressed the issue based on the data from our series and the literature. Materials and Methods Data from 49 patients diagnosed with non-metastatic bifocal germinoma at our hospital during the last 10 years were collected. The Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory 4.0 was used to evaluate health-related quality of life (HRQOL). Additionally, 81 patients identified from the literature were also analyzed independently. Results In our cohort, 34 patients had tumors in the sellar/suprasellar (S/SS) plus pineal gland (PG) regions and 15 in the S/SS plus basal ganglia/thalamus (BG/T) regions. The median follow-up period was 52 months (range, 10 to 134 months). Our survival analysis showed that patients treated with CSI (n=12) or whole-brain radiotherapy (WBRT; n=34) had comparable disease-free survival (DFS; p=0.540), but better DFS than those treated with focal radiotherapy (FR; n=3, p=0.016). All 81 patients from the literature had tumors in the S/SS+PG regions. Relapses were documented in 4/45 patients treated with FR, 2/17 treated with whole-ventricle irradiation, 0/4 treated with WBRT, and 1/15 treated with CSI. Survival analysis did not reveal DFS differences between the types of radiation field (p=0.785). HRQOL analysis (n=44) in our cohort found that, compared with S/SS+PG germinoma, patients with BG/T involvement had significantly lower scores in social and school domains. However, HRQOL difference between patients treated with CSI and those not treated with CSI was not significant. Conclusion In patients with non-metastatic bifocal germinoma, it is rational that CSI could be replaced by limited-field radiation. HRQOL in patients with BG/T involvement was poorer.

        Modeling and optimization of cutinase production by recombinant Escherichia coli based on statistical experimental designs

        Statistics-based experiment designs were used to optimize the culture medium (glucose, yeast extract, IPTG,tween-60, and CaCl2) for cutinase production by recombinant Escherichia coli. A 25-1 fractional factorial design augmented with center points revealed that glucose, yeast extract, and IPTG were the most significant factors, whereas the other factors were not important within the levels tested. The method of steepest ascent was used to approach the proximity of optimum, followed by a central composite design to develop a response surface for culture condition optimization. The optimum culture medium for cutinase production was found to be: glucose 33. 92 g/L, yeast extract 30.92 g/L,and IPTG 0.76 g/L. A cutinase production of 145.27±1.5 U/mL, which was in agreement with the prediction, was observed in triplicate verification experiments. The results obtained here verified the effectiveness of the applied methodology and may be helpful for cutinase production on an industrial scale.

        Functional Privacy-preserving Outsourcing Scheme with Computation Verifiability in Fog Computing

        Fog computing has become a popular concept in the application of internet of things (IoT). With the superiority in better service providing, the edge cloud has become an attractive solution to IoT networks. The data outsourcing scheme of IoT devices demands privacy protection as well as computation verification since the lightweight devices not only outsource their data but also their computation. Existing solutions mainly deal with the operations over encrypted data, but cannot support the computation verification in the same time. In this paper, we propose a data outsourcing scheme based on an encrypted database system with linear computation as well as efficient query ability, and enhance the interlayer program in the original system with homomorphic message authenticators so that the system could perform computational verifying. The tools we use to construct our scheme have been proven secure and valid. With our scheme, the system could check if the cloud provides the correct service as the system asks. The experiment also shows that our scheme could be as effective as the original version, and the extra load in time is neglectable.

        Capacity Evaluation of AC/DC Hybrid Micro-grid-Distributed Generation Considering V2G

        The increasing number of DC loads, such as electric vehicles (EVs), has resulted in micro-grid undergoing diffi culty in satisfying the various demands of such loads. The study develops a multi-objective capacity optimization allocation model for hybrid micro-grid on the bases of users’ satisfaction and the orderly charging/discharging of EVs. The proposed model aims to reduce the cost of the capacity allocation of AC/DC hybrid micro-grid and improve users’ satisfaction. Particle swarm optimization algorithm is used to address the capacity optimization of hybrid micro-grid in EVs across scenarios. This study verifi ed the rationality and eff ectiveness of the proposed capacity optimization model by comparing and analyzing the infl uence of capacity optimization on the orderly/disorderly charging/discharging of EVs and users’ satisfaction.         Solar-powered electrocoagulation treatment of wet flue gas desulfurization wastewater using dimensionally stable anode and induced electrode

        Solar-powered electrocoagulation (EC) process is proven to be an alternative option for wet flue gas desulfurization (WFGD) wastewater treatment, due to simultaneous removal of multiple pollutants efficiently and reduce the operation costs significantly. Rapid and stable photoelectricity response is necessary for the removal efficiency of pollutants (eg. COD and turbudity), especially in low solar irradiation intensity. In this paper, dimensionally stable anode (DSA) and operation voltages in EC process driven by solar cells were investigated, for the purpose of the optimized removal of pollutants, including COD, turbidity, (free residual chlorine and chlorine dioxide). The results show that the removal efficiency of COD and turbidity can respectively reach 59.12% and 39.11% within 30 min of illumination time (the enhanced solar radiation = 915.8 W m<SUP>-2</SUP>), when Ti-based plates were adopted. The concentration of free residual chlorine and chlorine dioxide can reach 2.70 and 5.31 mg L<SUP>-1</SUP>, indicating that chlorine ions present in WFGD wastewater have been converted into active chlorine partly. Solar-powered EC equipped with Ti-based plates have a potential prospect in EC process for WFGD wastewater treatment.

        Tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA) generation and removal paths analysis in printed circuit board (PCB) industrial wastewater: Lab-scale investigations

        With the rapid development of printed circuit board (PCB) industry, the problem of the release of tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA) during PCB manufacturing processes was recognized and harmful to the receiving water body. In this study, TBBPA generation paths, fates in industrial wastewater in the PCB manufacturing processes were analyzed. Gas chromatograph-mass spectrometer (GC-MS) scanning results showed that the raw materials including solder mask ink, character ink and dry film mainly contained TBBPA. The PCB fabrication procedures, mainly including development, etching, stripping of inner layer manufacturing process, and pattern plating, tin-plating of outer layer manufacturing process, and development during the forming and surface treatment process would introduce TBBPA into wastewater. Flocculation and activated sludge process (ASP) that were commonly used for industrial wastewater treatment were selected to assess their removal capability for TBBPA in the wastewater, both which could remove more than 80% TBBPA. Low pH below 7, increased PAC and PAM dosages, and proper dosing during the slow-stirring stage could enhance the TBBPA removal of flocculation-sedimentation process. The ASP removes TBBPA mainly by the path of adsorption. High activated sludge concentration, low pH, medium-temperature and limited competitive adsorbates (NH4+, Cu2+) were beneficial to remove TBBPA by the ASP.
