        In recent years, gonorrhea has been pandemic and remains one of the most common STDs in the world, especially in developing countries. For the detection of a more effective therapeutic regimen and assessing the prevalence of Penicillinase Producing Neisseria gonorrhoeae(PPNG), we have been trying to study the patients who have visited the Venereal Disease Clinic of Choong-Ku Public Health Center in Seoul since 1980 by menas of the chromogenic cephalosporin method. In 1998, 93 strians of N. genorrhoeae were isolated, among which 60(64.5%) were PPNG. The prevalence of PPNG in Seoul, which had been decreased to 39% in 1996 after a peak of 74.3% in 1993, is increased to 64.5% in 1998.

      • 효율적인 분할 시그너춰 화일의 디렉토리 관리

        A partitioned signature file is an enhancement of the signature file that divides all the signatures into blocks in such a way that each block contains the signatures with the same key. Its directory stores all the keys as meta information for avoiding unnecessary block accesses by examining them first before the actual searching of the blocks. Efficient directory management is very important in large database environments since its size gets larger proportionally to that of the database. In this paper, we first point out the problems in the directory management methods of the previous partitioned signature files, and then pressent a new one solving them. Our method offers good features in the following three aspects: (1) suitability for large database environments, (2)adaptability to dynamic situations, and (3) storage overhead for the directory.

        서로 다른 이중에너지 방사선흡수기계 기종 (Hologic QDR 4500-A 와 Lunar EXPERT-XL)간의 골밀도 교차 보정

        Purpose: A cross-calibration equation is needed to compare bone mineral density measured by different dual X-ray absoptiometry systems. We performed this study to establish appropriate cross-calibration equations between two different dual X-ray absorptiometry systems. Materials and Methods: Bone mineral density of anterior-posterior lumbar spine (L2-4 level) and femoral neck were measured in 109 women (55±11yr) using two different dual X-ray absorptiometry systems (Lunar EXPERT-XL) and Hologic QDR 4500-A). Bone mineral density values measured by two systems, including area, bone mass content, bone mineral density and percentile of young normals were compared and cross-calibration equations between two systems derived. Results: The bone mineral density values of 109 women measured by Lunar system were 0.958±0.17 g/cm2 at L2-4 and 0.768±0.131 g/cm2 at femur neck, which were significantly higher (13±6% at L2-4 and 19±7% at femur neck, p<0.001) than those (0.851±0.144 g/cm2 at L2-4 and 0.649±0.108 g/cm2 a neck) by Hologic system. Bone mineral content and percentile of young normals measured by Lunar system were also significantly higher than those by Hologic system (p<0.001), whereas there was no difference in area (p>0.05). There was a high correlation between bone mineral density values of L2-4 and femoral neck obtained with both dual X-ray absortiometry systems (r=0.96 and 0.95, respectively). Cross-calibration equations relating the bone mineral density were Lunar=1.1287×Hologic-0.0027 for L2-4 and Lunar=l.1556×Hologic+0.0l82 for femoral neck. Conclusion: We obtained cross-calibration equations of bone mineral density between Lunar EXPERT-XL and Hologic QDR 4500-A. These equations can be useful in comparing bone mineral density obtained by different dual X-ray absorptiometry systems.

        Amentoflavone, naturally occurring biflavonid, isolated from the leaves of Ginko biloba, selectively inhibited human seceretory phospholipase A_2. This compound potently and irreversibly inhibited human group IIA in a dose dependent manner with an IC_50, about 3??M. Amentoflavone inhibited phospholipase A_2 by noncompetitive manner, with the apparent Ki value of 1×10^3M. In addition, the inhibitory activity of amentoflavone is rather specific against group IIA phospholipase A_2 than IB phospholipase A_2. Furthermore, this compound strong inhibit histamine release from A_23187 treated rat peritoneal mast cells. These results indicate naturally occurring biflavonid represents a novel anti-inflammatory agent.

        유치열에서 scissors bite의 치료에 대한 증례보고 : CASE REPORT

        중심교합위 상태에서 편측이나 양측으로 구치부의 상악치아가 하악치아의 협측으로 위치한 경우를 scissors bite라고 한다. 이런 부정교합은 상악의 폭이 크거나 하악의 폭이 좁은 경우 발생한다. 이로 인해 턱의 성장이 방해를 받고 악궁간 부조화를 유발하며 적절한 저작을 할 수 없게 된다. 따라서 scissor bite는 즉시 차단 교정을 해야 하며 일반적으로 scissors bite의 치료는 고정성 또는 가철성 장치를 이용하여 하악을 확장한다. 이에 저자는 scissors bite를 보이는 환아의 4세의 두명의 남아에게 Schwarz 장치를 이용하여 양호한 결과를 얻어 scissors bite의 치료법 제시에 도움이 되고자 보고하는 바이다. A scissors bite in the posterior teeth occurs when the upper teeth are positioned totally or unilaterally buccal to the lower teeth in centric occlusion. This malocclusion can result from either excessive width of maxilla, deficient width mandible, or combination of both. The malocclusion can lead to hindered growth of jaws or to asymmetry between the jaws. Besides, the severe lingual inclination of the mandibular posterior teeth prevents adequate mastication. Thus, the scissors bite is in need of immediate interceptive orthodontic interbention. The common treatments of the scissors bite is to expand the mandibular arch: fixed or removable appliances. In our clinic, we made a seccess in treatment of the scissors bite using the Schwarz appliance. We treated the scissors bite using the lower Schwarz appliance for a mean observation period of 21 months. The subjects were 2 boys, aged 4 years.

        The drinking water system has enabled us to provide a requested amount of water by a single water pipe wherever and whenever necessary, and it brings a lot of benefits to the people as well as the community concerned. The drinking water system is managed in principle, by water charge as the price of benefits brought by the system. The benefits are quite different according to the purpose of water use. Therefore, if the drinking water system can not bring various kinds of benefits to the people and community at the same time, its significance as a social infrastructure may be diminished.

      • Nd를 첨가한 Sr페라이트 플라스틱자석

        In this dissertation, we have studied on the fabrication of Sr ferrite plastic magnet with additional Nd. First, we selected SrO5.9F₂O₃of nonstoichimatric composition as the basic composition of specimen ferrite since its magnetic property was excellent. Then, we added Nd to the specimen. In order to control the properties of the particles on fabrication of magnetic powder, 0.3wt% CaCO₃, 0.2wt% SiO₂, 0.twt% Al₂O₃and 0.5wt% Na₂SiO₃were added. For carbon coating ont he compound specimen, 5wt% polyvinylalchohol was added and then the compound specimen was calcinated under N₂environment at 1,225 ℃. After performaing grinding process for 18 hours, we obtained 1.0~1.2㎛ size of single domain magnetic powder. We added 1 wt% silane coupling and 1 wt% calcium stearate to the Sr ferrite powder with additional Nd, and then mixed them well. Next, we pelleted them after kneading them, using polyamide12 as a binder. The pelleted specimen was injection-moulded using anisotropic mould under magnetic field of 12kOe. As the results of property tests for the fabricated specimen magnet, we find that the fabricated magnet has the following excellent peroperties at Nd 12.5wt%: bHc=2.84kOe, Br=3.23kG and (BH)max=2.49MGOe.

        The spectroscopic properties of 9 pads in a urine strip were studied to develop a urine analysis system. From the present work, we determined the wavelength range which could accurately distinguish the degrees of 9 test items. A computer simulation was performed to distinguish the primary color reaction in the urine strips by using the reflectance of the urine strips, the iuminous intensity of light-emitting diodes, and the spectral sensitivity of photodiodes. The simulation results agree well with the experimental results obtained by using a UV-Visible spectrophotometer.

        The rates of absorption of carbon dioxide into water were measured in a stirred cell with plane interface in the presence of fine solids such as activated carbon, white carbon and fused alumina at 25℃ and 1 atm. Experiments for slurries of activated carbon and white carbon showed that the absorption rates increase significantly, which could be explained by the adsorption capacity of these fine particle. Meanwhile, the absorption rates for slurry of fused alumina without adsorption capacity of dissolved gas in slurry were less than those for water. The enhancement of gas absorption into slurries of activated carbon and white carbon could be explained by the diffusion equation based on penetration theory of dissolved gas.
