        Investigation of Organic Light-emitting Diodes with Novel Organic Electron Injection Layers

        1-(diphenyl-phosphinoyl)-4-(2,2-diphenyl-vinyl)-benzene (DpDvB) and 4-(diphenyl-phosphinoyl)-40-(2,2-diphenyl-vinyl)-biphenyl (DpDvBp) have been prepared and used as efficient electron injection layers (EILs) between aluminum cathode and tris (8-hydroxyquinoline) aluminum organic light emitting diodes (OLED). The performances of devices with different thicknesses of DpDvB and DpDvBp were investigated. Experimental results show that the turn-on voltage of the devices was decreased and the luminance of the devices was enhanced with increasing thickness of the EILs. Power efficiencies of 1.07 lm/W and 0.97 lm/W were obtained by inserting a 3-nm-thick EIL of DpDvB and a 5 nm thick EIL of DpDvBp, respectively. These efficiencies are comparable to that of the device using LiF as an EIL. The results prove that DpDvB and DpDvBp layers are also suitable for efficient EILs in OLEDs.

      • Effect of drying in antioxidant activity and changes of ascorbic acid and colour by different drying and storage in Korean red pepper (<i>Capsicum annuum</i>, L.)

        <P>Summary</P><P>This study was conducted to investigate the effect of drying in antioxidant activity and to compare the changes of ascorbic acid and colour by drying and storage in Korean red pepper. The antioxidant activity of red pepper dried by modified method (MM, dried at 70 °C/6 h in cut pods) was about threefold higher than those dried by conventional method (CM, dried at 80 °C/5 h followed by 60 °C/18 h in whole pods) in the ([2,2′-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzthiazoline-6-sulfonic acid)] (ABTS) and (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) (DPPH) radical-scavenging assays, respectively. The ascorbic acid contents in MM and CM drying were 12.41 ± 2.15 mg g<SUP>−1</SUP> and 3.05 ± 0.39 mg g<SUP>−1</SUP>, and were not changed for 3 months at 0 °C in red pepper dried by MM. The ASTA colour values of red pepper dried by MM and CM were 114.0 and 107.4, respectively. For 6- month storage, 72–85% of the colour was retained regardless of drying and storage conditions.</P>

        Polycrystalline NiO Thin Films Applicable to Nano-Storage Media

        We have investigated local electrical properties of NiO thin films applicable to nano-storage devices. Polycrystalline NiO thin films were deposited on Pt/Ti/SiO2/Si substrates by dc magnetron reactive sputtering methods. X-ray diffraction (XRD) data have shown that polycrystalline NiO films without second phases were grown on the substrates. We also observed root mean square roughness of 1.9 nm in the 15μm × 15 μm area of a NiO film by using atomic force microscopy (AFM) mode. Using conducting atomic force microscopy (C-AFM) mode, we measured the change in local current distribution and found that the grown NiO films exhibited excellent resistance switching behavior at the nanoscale and good retention behavior of the written nano-sized domains. Moreover, we investigated the relation between pulse height and bit size. It was possible to write 8×8 bits in 4×4 μm² area and to store digital information corresponding to several Gbit/inch². Therefore, we successfully showed the feasibility of NiO films as media for nano-storage devices.         소프트웨어를 활용한 과학 교육의 국내 연구 동향 분석

        Objectives The purpose of this study is to analyze research trends in software-enhanced science instruction and to draw implications for teachers' roles and challenges in improving the quality of software-enhanced science instruction. Methods A total of 84 domestic KCI-level academic studies related to software-based science teaching were ex-tracted from RISS, and research trends were analyzed by publication year, research purpose, research subjects, class type, and research topic. Then, we reviewed the role of science teachers in each study and analyzed their roles in the process of planning and running lessons using software and in identifying and solving students' difficulties. Results In the analysis of research trends in science classes utilizing software, studies focusing on the effective-ness of programs and targeting high school students were predominant. In terms of the teacher's role, it was found that teachers play a central role at various stages of the lesson. Teachers are responsible for critical tasks such as designing lessons linked to software use, overcoming technical barriers, anticipating difficulties and providing feedback, as well as monitoring and coaching student achievement. These studies highlight the importance of the teacher's role in science lessons using software, yet reveal a lack of systematic research on specific roles and sup-port methods. Conclusions Teachers' technical skills, understanding of the subject matter, and ability to operate the classroom play an important role in the success of the class. In this regard, teacher training programs should be realistic in terms of content and level, and reflect a deep understanding of the role and support of teachers in order for them to effectively implement software-enhanced lessons. More research is needed to analyze the difficulties teachers face in actual classrooms and the challenges they face in designing lessons. 목적 이 연구의 목적은 소프트웨어를 활용한 과학 수업의 연구 동향을 분석하고, 소프트웨어를 활용한 과학 수업의 질을 향상시키기 위한 교사의 역할과 과제에 대한 시사점을 도출하는 것이다. 방법 RISS에서 소프트웨어를 활용한 과학 수업과 관련된 국내 KCI급 학술 연구 총 84편을 추출하고, 발행 연도, 연구 목적, 연구 대상, 수업 유형, 연구 주제별로 연구 동향을 분석하였다. 이후, 각 연구 내용에서 과학 교사의 역할에 대해 검토하고, 소프트웨어를 활용한 수업을 계획하고 운영하는 과정과 학생들의 어려움을 파악하고 해결하는 과정에서 교사의 역할을 분석하였다. 결과 소프트웨어를 활용한 과학 수업의 연구 동향 분석에서 프로그램 효과와 고등학생 대상 연구가 주를 이루었다. 교사의 역할에 관한 검토에서는 교사가 수업의 다양한 단계에서 중추적인 역할을 수행하는 것으로 나타났다. 교사는 소프트웨어 활용과 연계된 수업 설계, 기술적 장벽 해소, 어려움 예측 및 피드백 제공, 학생 성취 모니터링 및 코칭 등에서 핵심적인 역할을 담당해야 한다. 이러한 연구들은 교사가 소프트웨어를 활용한 과학 수업에서 중요한 역할을 수행해야 함을 제시하면서도, 구체적인 역할과 지원 방법에 대한 체계적인 연구는 부족함을 드러냈다. 결론 소프트웨어를 활용한 과학 수업의 중요성이 증가함에 따라, 교사의 역할도 그 중요성을 더해가고 있다. 교사의 기술적 소양, 교과에 대한 이해 및 수업 운용 능력은 수업의 성공에 중요한 요소이다. 따라서 실제 수업 현장에서 교사가 직면하는 어려움 및 수업을 설계하는 과정에서 겪는 어려움에 대한 분석 연구가 요구되며, 현장 내용과 수준을 현실적으로 반영한 교사 연수 프로그램 등 다양한 지원이 필요하다.

        최근, 임상연구는 유비쿼터스 헬스케어 서비스를 이용한 환자 개인의 맞춤형 의료 서비스에 관한 연구가 진행되고 있다. 유비쿼터스 헬스케어 서비스 시스템은 원격의 환자를 유무선 네트워킹 기술을 활용하여 “언제 어디서나" 이용가능한 의료서비스를 제공할 수 있다. 이러한 기술들 덕택에, 의료 서비스가 의료기관 내에서 실-생활 영역으로 공간적인 확대와 특정 질병치료에서 평생 건강관리로 시간적인 확대가 가능해졌다. 본 논문에서는 유비쿼터스 환경에서 환자와 전문의가 실시간으로 상호작용을 통해 최적의 의료서비스 제공할 수 있는 유비쿼터스 헬스케어 서비스 기반의 과민성 방광 환자 관리 시스템을 설계하고 구현하였다.

        유자(Citrus junos Sieb ex Tanaka) 분말 첨가한 저당 젤리의 물리화학적 품질 특성

        The purpose of this study was to investigate the optimal composition of low-sugar jelly containing yuza powder using the artificial sweetener, sucralose, instead of sugar. This study was divided into two parts to determine physiochemical properties of yuza jellies 1) made of different contents of sucralose and 2) made of different amount of yuza powder. In the first study, jelly contained sugar only (S1), sugar and sucralose=3:1 (S2), and sucralose only (S3), whereas in the second study, jelly contained different amount of yuza powder and sucralose (Y1-Y4). Sucralose and yuza powder both affected pH, chromaticity and texture results of the jellies. Chromaticity testing revealed that jellies containing sucralose (Y2, Y4) had tents with high lightness (L value), yellowness (b value) and low redness (a value, p<0.05). Sucralose also had a higher pH than sucrose, but low sugar contents (p<0.05) and viscosity. Jelly containing high yuza powder shows comparable results in pH, chromaticity and viscosity. In texture analysis, contents tended to be negatively correlated with sucralose since yuza powder had a positive correlation. In sensory evaluations, the score for overall preference was higher in S1 but were generally similar between S1 and S3. The lower the content of yuza powder, the higher the overall evaluation. In conclusion, jelly made with no sugar and 8.4% yuza powder was considered to be advantageous for a food nutritional & chewniess snack for diabetic complications.

        Abietic Acid Has an Anti-Obesity Effect in Mice Fed a High-Fat Diet

        We investigated the anti-obesity effect of abietic acid in mice fed a high-fat diet with emphasis on changes in adipogenesis in epididymal adipose tissues. Male C57BL/6J mice were divided into four groups and fed a normal diet, a high-fat diet (HFD), or HFD plus oral administration of abietic acid (20 mg/kg of body weight/day [LA] or 40 mg/kg of body weight/day [HA]) for 8 weeks. Compared with the HFD group, mice orally administered 40 mg of abietic acid/kg of body weight/day exhibited significantly decreased body weight and adipose tissue weights. Serum triglyceride concentrations in the HA group were significantly lower than those in the HFD group, as were the levels of serum insulin and leptin. Hematoxylin and eosin staining revealed that epididymal adipose tissue mass was decreased by abietic acid administration. Abietic acid also inhibited the protein expression of sterol regulatory element-binding protein-1c, CCAAT/enhancer-binding protein α, and CD36 in epididymal adipose tissues, which are up-regulated by HFDs. These data demonstrate that abietic acid has an anti-obesity effect in mice mediated by the regulation of adipogenesis.

      • Changes of Fagopyrins in Buckwheat Sprout when Exposed to Different Light Sources

        Buckwheat (Fagopyrum esculentum) sprout (BS) is a healthy food containing various bioactive substances, including fagopyrins (FA). FA can be used for photodynamic therapy as a photosensitizer. This study aims to evaluate the change of FA in buckwheat sprouts when exposed to different light sources (LS). BS were collected on the 7<SUP>th</SUP> day after germination. Collected BS were exposed to different LS (UV-C, 254 nm; UV-B, 312 nm; UV-A, 365 nm; blue (BL), 450 nm; yellow (YL), 590 nm; and red (RL), 660 nm) in an incubator at 25ºC for 1 h or 15 h, or not exposed (NEBS). After exposure to LS, FA in freeze-dried BS were extracted with methanol and analyzed using UPLC-MS/ MS. FA in the BS after exposure to different LS were significantly higher than in the NEBS (P<0.05). When exposed to LS for 1 h or 15 h, the BS exposed to BL contained more FA than the BS exposed to the other LS. FA in the BS exposed to UV lights were significantly less than in the BS exposed to BL, YL, or RL (P<0.05). Among the BS exposed to UV lights for 15 h, the BS exposed to UV-C contained significantly higher FA than the BS exposed to UV-A and B; however, the BS tissue exposed to UV-C was badly damaged.
