      • Projections of summertime ozone concentration over East Asia under multiple IPCC SRES emission scenarios

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>We have developed the Integrated Climate and Air Quality Modeling System (ICAMS) through the one-way nesting of global–regional models to examine the changes in the surface ozone concentrations over East Asia under future climate scenarios. Model simulations have been conducted for the present period of 1996–2005 to evaluate the performance of ICAMS. The simulated surface ozone concentrations reproduced the observed monthly mean concentrations at sites in East Asia with high R<SUP>2</SUP> values (0.4–0.9), indicating a successful simulation to capture both spatial and temporal variability. We then performed several model simulations with the six IPCC SRES scenarios (A2, A1B, A1FI, A1T, B1, and B2) for the next three periods, 2016–2025 (the 2020s), 2046–2055 (the 2050s), and 2091–2100 (the 2090s). The model results show that the projected changes of the annual daily mean maximum eight-hour (DM8H) surface ozone concentrations in summertime for East Asia are in the range of 2–8 ppb, −3 to 8 ppb, and −7 to 9 ppb for the 2020s, the 2050s, and the 2090s, respectively, and are primarily determined based on the emission changes of NO<SUB>x</SUB> and NMVOC. The maximum increases in the annual DM8H surface ozone and high-ozone events occur in the 2020s for all scenarios except for A2, implying that the air quality over East Asia is likely to get worse in the near future period (the 2020s) than in the far future periods (the 2050s and the 2090s). The changes in the future environment based on IPCC SRES scenarios would also influence the change in the occurrences of high-concentrations events more greatly than that of the annual DM8H surface ozone concentrations. Sensitivity simulations show that the emissions increase is the key factor in determining future regional surface ozone concentrations in the case of a developing country, China, whereas a developed country, Japan would be influenced more greatly by effects of the regional climate change than the increase in emissions.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Change in ozone level is determined by the combination of NO<SUB>x</SUB> and NMVOC emissions. </LI> <LI> Ozone level over East Asia would get worse in the near future (the 2020s) than far future. </LI> <LI> A high-concentration event generally increases and more frequently occurs in the future. </LI> <LI> Change in ozone air quality in a developing country depends more on emissions change. </LI> <LI> Change in ozone air quality in a developed country depends more on climate change. </LI> </UL> </P>

        Study on Aging Effect of Adhesion Strength Between Polyimide Film and Copper Layer

        This paper experimentally confirmed that the adhesion strength of the copper layer formed on the surface of the polyimidefilm by wet plating greatly changes with the aging time. The adhesion strength of the copper layer showed a rapid increasefrom 4 to 10 h after aging had begun and then converged to a value without a significant change. The adhesion enhancementbetween polyimide film and copper layer by aging is due to the interlocking effect caused by the volume expansion of copperoxide (CuO) formed in the polyimide, the increased mobility of copper particles enlarged by the decrease of impuritiesin the copper layer grain boundaries, and the consequent change of the crystal structure of the copper layer leading to theinternal stress reduction. Such adhesion improvement can be confirmed by the progress of the cohesive failure indicatingthe breakdown of the polyimide film.

        Changes of Sugar Composition and Related Enzyme Activities during Fruit Development of Asian Pear Cultivars ‘Niitaka’ and ‘Whangkeumbae’

        We report on the seasonal changes of soluble sugar accumulation and several enzyme activities related to sugar metabolism, in two Asian pear cultivars (Pyrus pyrifolia) cultivars ‘Niitaka’ and ‘Whangkeumbae’. Soluble sugar content increased as the fruit developed and its total contents in matured fruits were 104.6 and 95.1 ㎎ㆍg?¹ fresh weight for ‘Niitaka’ and ‘Whangkeumbae’, respectively. However, the fructose-glucose-sucrose-sorbitol ratio was not significantly changed. Sorbitol-6-phosphate dehydrogenase activity was maintained at high level in leaves and low in fruits throughout the fruit development, although the enzyme activity highly fluctuated in young and mature fruits. NAD-dependent sorbitol dehydrogenase activity increased sigmoidally in both leaves and fruits during fruit development, and correlated with accumulation of total sugar in fruits. Sucrose synthase and sucrose phosphate synthase (SPS) activities remained low in leaves, but higher with two peak fluctuations in fruits. The change of soluble sugar contents positively correlated with SPS activity, based on the seasonal fluctuation of SPS activity and soluble sugar accumulation.

        혼입불순물이 구리 도금층의 미세조직변화에 미치는 영향

        The self-annealing which leads evolution of microstructure in copper electroplating layers at room temperature occurs after forming deposition layer. During the process, crystal orientation, size and sheet resistance of plating layer change. Lastly, it causes the change of physical and mechanical characteristics such as a tensile strength of plating layer. In this study, the variation of incorporated impurities, microstructure and sheet resistance of copper plating layer formed by electroplating are measured with and without inorganic additives during the self-annealing. In case of absence of inorganic additives, the copper layer presents strong total intensity of incorporated impurities. During the self-annealing, such width of reduction was significant. Moreover, microstructure and crystal size are increased while the tensile strength is decreased noticeably. On the other hand, in the presence of inorganic additives, there is no observable distinction in the copper plating layer. According to the observation on movements of the incorporated impurities in electrodeposition copper layer, within 12 hours the impurities are continuously shifted from inside of the plating layer to its surface after as-deposited electroplating. Within 24 hours, except for the small portion of surface layer, it is considered that most of the microstructure is transformed.

        Evaluation on Fatigue Characteristics of Tire Sidewall Rubber according to Aging Temperature

        Ultra-high performance (UHP) tires, for which demand has recently surged, are subject to severe strain conditions due to the low aspect ratio of their sidewalls. It is important to ensure sidewall material durability, since a sudden tire sidewall breakage during vehicle operation is likely to cause a major accident. In the automotive application of rubber parts, cracking is defined as a failure because when cracks occur, the mechanical properties of rubber change. According to Mars<sup>(8)</sup>, Andre<sup>(11)</sup> et al., strain and strain energy density (SED) are mainly used as a failure parameters and the SED is generally used as a fatigue damage parameter. In this study, the fatigue life curves of sidewall rubber of tires were determined by using the SED as fatigue damage parameter while the effect of aging on fatigue life was evaluated after obtaining the SED-Nf curves according to aging condition.

        강원도 남부지역에서 소나무림 벌채 후 초기 종조성 변화

        강원도 남부 지역의 발달단계가 다른 소나무림 벌채지에서 16년 동안의 식생 변화를 연구하였다. 교란 후, 천이 궤적 및 환경 변화를 온도, 상대습도, 서열분석(Detrended Correspondence Analysis, DCA), Multiple Responses Permutation Procedure(MRPP) 및 지표종 분석(Indicator Species Analysis, ISPAN) 등을 통하여 분석하였다. 벌채 직후, 수관열림도는 대조구와 비교하여 세 배(1yr 68.3% 및 R1 23.0%)로 급격히 증가한 후 감소하였으나, 상대습도는 비교적 작은 변화(약 6% 감소)를 나타내었다. DCA 결과, 벌채 후 초기에는 종조성이 이질적으로 변화하였으나, 점차 벌채 이전(대조구)의 것과 유사하게 발달하였다. MRPP 결과, 각 발달 단계(1yr, 3yr, 10yr 및 16yr)의 종 조성은 대조구(R1, R3, R10 및 R16)의 것과 유의한 차이를 보였다. 1yr 및 3yr에서는 목본성 종이, 10yr 및 16yr에서는 초본 종들이 주요 종으로 분석되어, 교란 직후에는 목본성 종들이 활발한 재생을 나타내며, 이후 초본 식생이 발달하는 것을 보였다. 연구 대상지역의 천이는 초기 식물상 조성 모델로 설명할 수 있을 것으로 판단된다. Vegetation changes were studied for 16 yr in clearcut logged Pinus densiflora forests in the southern Gangwon-do province in Korea by applying chronosequence approach. Ambient temperature and relative humidity, Detrended Correspondence Analysis (DCA), Multiple Responses Permutation Procedure (MRPP), Indicator Species Analysis (ISPAN) were used to examine successional trajectory and compositional changes. After clearcutting, canopy openness was increased abruptly at three folds (1yr 68.3% and R1 23.0%) and then decreased, but relative moisture was slightly decreased (6%) compare to control site. In the result of DCA, right after clear cutting, vegetation composition was developed heterogeneously compared to control sites, and then approached to control sites within 16 years. Based on MRPP, species composition of each developmental stages (1yr, 3yr, 10yr and 16yr) revealed signigicant differences to that of control vegetation (R1, R3, R10 and R16). Indicator species in 1yr and 3yr samples included various woody species rather than herbaceous species, but in 10yr and 16yr, herbaceous were more abundant. Earlier succession of pine forests likely can explain to Initial Floristic Composition (IFC) Model.

        The distribution and localization of somatostatin(SOM), neuropeptide Y(NPY), vasopressin(VP), and oxytocin(OT) were studied with a immunohistochemical technique in the canine hypothalamus. The SOM-immunoreactive perikarya were concentrated in the anterior periventricular and the arcuate nuclei. Immunoreactive terminals were observed in the arcuate, the ventromedial hypothalamic, the suprachismatic nuclei and the external layer of the median emmence. A great number of NPY-immunoreactive cell bodies were found in the arcuate nucleus and NPY fibers were located throughout the hypothalamus with the highest concentration especially in the paraventricular (PVN) and the acuate nuclei. Moderately or densely stained fibers were also observed in the median eminence, the suprachiasmatic. the periventricular, the ventromedial hypothalamic, the dorsomedial hypothalamic and the medial preoptic nuclei, and the stria terminalis. Both VP-and OT-containing perikarya were found mainly in the PVN and supraoptic nucleus(SON). but a few were seen in the perifornical area, the lateral hypothalamus, the dorsal hypothalamic and the periventricular nucleus. The fibers originated from the PVN were projected to the SON via ventral or dorsal area of the fornix.

        The bundling process is the final step in vegetable manufacturing, however, the process is a little difficult to be automatized, because vegetable has the physical properties of roughness, softness , and fragility etc.. In this paper, we proposed an automatic bundling mechanism for vegetable based on the heat melt joining. The proposed mechanism consists of three modules, one module is the moving part for aligning of the vegetable shape and adjusting of the vegetable tension, second module is the arm driving part for the vegetable binding and the band roll releasing, and third module is band joining, band cutting, and band feeding part for the vegetable binding continuously. Through this research, Using the SMO(SimDesigner Motion) module, we optimize condition of mechanical movement of the bundling mechanism. This bundling system designed in order to binding 2,500 bun-dle at 10 hours.

        혈액투석요법 환자의 우울, 불안 및 수면장애에 대한 연구

        연구목적 : 혈액투석요법을 받는 말기 신부전증 환자들은 불안이나 우울 등의 심인증상 외에도 여러 가지 수면장애를 호소할 수 있다. 말기 신부전증 환자에서 심인증상과 수면장애가 많을수록 삶의 질에 장애를 초래하며 혈액투석요법 도중 탈락이 높다. 저자는 본 연구에서 혈액투석요법 중인 환자의 우울, 불안 및 수면장애 등을 조사하여 향후 환자가료에 활용하고자 하였다. 방 법 : 부산시내 4곳의 혈액투석요법기관에서 혈액투석요법을 받는 말기 신부전증 환자 153명(남 87, 여 66)과 정신적, 신체적으로 건강한 동아대학교병원 행정직원 및 의과대학 학부모 113명(남 58, 여 55)을 대상으로 구조화된 면담과 자기평가척도를 실시하였다. 연구도구는 저자 등이 본 연구에 알맞게 개발한 인구통계학적 자료를 포함한 수면관련 설문지, 우울증 자가평가 척도인 Beck Depression Inventory(BDI), 불안 자가평가 척도인 State-Trait Anxiety Inventory(STAI)를 이용하였다. 결 과 : 환자군이 대조군에 비하여 신체증상 및 심인증상을 더 많이 호소하였고(p<0.05), 수면관련 불편을 더 많이 나타내었다(p<0.001). 환자군의 BDI 평균은 22.9로 대조군의 11.2보다 유의하게 높았다(p<0.001). BDI 점수를 기준으로 볼 때 남자환자 64명(74.7%), 여자환자 47명(71.2%)은 우울증군에 속하였다. STAI 평균 점수는 두 군간에 유의한 차이가 없었다. 환자군은 대조군에 비하여 입면잠복기와 수면 중 깨어 있는 시간이 더 길었고, 낮 동안의 졸리움 등 수면관련 불편을 더 많이 호소하고 있었다. 또한 환자군은 불면증(65.4%), 하지불편증후군(46.4%), 악몽(27.3%), 주기성사지운동장애(23.5%), 수면 식사장애(18.3%), 야경증(14.4%) 등을 유의하게 더 많이 호소하고 있었다(p<0.05). 결 론 : 혈액투석요법을 받고 있는 말기 신부전증 환자들은 대조군에 비해서 신체적, 심인적 증상을 유의하게 더 호소하고 불면증을 포함한 다양한 수면장애를 동반하고 있다. 또한 이들 사이에 높은 상호관계가 있는 바, 이는 혈액투석요법 증인 환자들에서 신체적 증상 및 심인적 증상뿐만 아니라 수면장애에 대한 치료적 접근이 필요함을 시사한다. Objectives : Psychological distresses and complaints in sleep, in addition to physical distresses such as pruritus and bone pain, are common in patients with hemodialysis. The purposes of this study were to investigate 1) the severity of physical distresses, 2) the severity of depression and anxiety, 3) the sleep disturbances, and 4) the correlation of the above variables in patients with hemodialysis. Methods : The patients with hemodialysis(male 87, female 66) and controls(male 58, female 55) completed a self-administered questionnaire package, which included Beck Depression Inventory, Spielberger's State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, and questions characterizing the reported sleep problems and quantitating the severity of the self-perceived physical and psychological conditions with linear visual analogue scales. Results : The results indicated that patients with hemodialysis complained of more physical distresses, more depressed mood, and more sleep disturbances suggesting insomnia, restless legs syndrome, periodic limb movement disorder, nightmare and obstructive sleep apnea syndrome, etc. There were significant positive correlations of physical distresses, depressed mood and sleep disturbances. However, there were no significant differences in state and trait anxiety between both groups. Conclusions : The authors suggest that the quality of life in patients with hemodialysis

        고압전류 감전자에게서 나타난 말초신경병증 증례보고

        Background: With increasing industrial development, opportunities are growing to contact electricity in the workplace or home. Therefore, the risk of electrical accident has been increased gradually. In general, electrical injuries involve the extremities and result in amputation or severe disability of limbs. Delayed spinal cord injury and peripheral neuropathies following electrical accidents are extremely rare. Case report: A 32-year-old man with 10 years working experience at a CRT-monitor manufacturer with repetitive exposures to high voltage current visited our hosipital. He complained of left leg weakness and atrophy, and intermittent pain. The symptoms were progressive. Other symptoms occurred such as nocturia, hesitancy, and weak urinary stream. We examined the patient and conducted EMG, L-spine MRI, neurometer test, isokinetic strength test, and physical examination. The results showed neural injuries due to anterior horn lesions or compression of the left femoral nerve pathway, with a consequent diagnosis of neurogenic bladder.
