        Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) is a life-threatening syndrome characterized by the classic pentad of clinical features that includes microangiopathic hemolytic anemia, thrombocytopenia, neurologic abnormalities, fever, and renal dysfunction. Early diagnosis and utilization of plasmapheresis can improve the survival rates of patients with TTP. TTP rarely may be seen in association with autoimmune disease such as systemic lupus erythematous (SLE). We report here a 42-year-old female who was presented with severe digital gangrenes, microangiopathic hemolytic anemia, thrombocytopenia, neurologic abnormalities, fever, and renal dysfunction. Her condition responded to combined therapy with high dose steroid, immunosuppressants, and plasmapheresis therapy.

        강직성 슬관절에서의 슬관절 전치환술

        목적: 강직이 동반된 슬관절염 환자에서 슬관절 전치활술의 문제점, 결과 및 합병증을 분석하고자 하였다. 대상 및 방법: 1994년 1월부터 2000년 12월까지 슬관절 강직(운동 범위 50도이하)이 있는 환자에게 슬관절 전치환술을 시행하여 2년 이상 추시가 가능하였던 16례를 대상으로 하였다. 수술은 관절 강직이 발생한지 평균 12.2년(1~40년)에 시행하였으며, 추시기간은 평균 3.3년(2~6년)이었다. 16례 중 남자 3례, 여자 13례였고, 평균 나이는 55.8세(34세~75세)였다. 감염에 의한 후유증 6례로 가장 많았고 그 외 퇴행성 관절염 4례, 외상 후 관절염 3례, 류마티스성 관절염 3례의 순이었다. 술 후 평가는 추시기간 중의 운동 범위와 HSS score 및 합병증을 분석하였다. 결과: 관절 운동 범위는 술 전 평균 31.6도(0~50도)에서 추시시 평균 95.4도(80~120도)로 증가하였으며, 1례에서만 5도의 굴곡 구축이 있었다. HSS score는 술 전 평균 59.6점(43~76점)에서 추시시 평균 84.6점(76~92점)으로 향상되었다. 1례에서 수술 중 슬개건 부분파열이 있었으나 보조기 착용과 적극적 재활로 술 후 1년째 90°의 관절 운동이 가능했다. 표재성 감염 1례는 창상의 변연절제술 후 피부이식으로 치유되었고, 심부 감염된 3례는 추후 관절 유합술을 시행하였다. 결론: 슬관절 전지환슬은 강직된 슬관절의 기능을 회복시킬 수 있는 좋은 술기이지만 감염등의 합병증을 고려해서 시행되어야 한다. Purpose: To evlauate the results of TKRA (Total knee replacement arthroplasty) for the treatment of stiff knee. Methods & Materials : TRKA has been performed for 18 cases of stiff knee ( ROM < 50° ) between January 1994 and December 2000. 16 cases which have been followed up for more than 2 years were analysed. Average follow-up was 3.3 years(2~6 years). 3 were male and 13 female. The average age was 55.8 years(34~75 years). Sequales of infection were most with 6 cases and followed by osteoarthritis (4 cases, 2 cases had been performed arthroscopic debridement) and rheumatoid arthritis (3 cases) and traumatic arthritis (3 cases) in order. TKRA was performed on average 12.2 years (1~40 years) after knee stiffness has been developed. We evaluate the results with ROM, HSS score and complications. Results : Average ROM was increased from 31.6°(0°~50°) preoperatively to 95.4°(80°~120°) postoperatively. 5° of flexion contracture was present in only 1 cases. Average HSS score was improved from 59.6 points preoperatively to 84.6 points postoperatively. The patella tendon was partially ruptured in 1 case surgery, but by brace application and rehabilitative exercise, ROM was improved to 90°, 1 year post operatively. There were 1 superficial skin infection which was resolved by revision of wound and skin graft, and deep infection in 3 cases, which needed knee fusion finally. Conclusion : TKRA is a good method for improving function in knee stiffness although infection risk is high.

      • 경주지역 여고생의 초경과 체성장간의 관계

        본 연구는 경주지역 1개 고등학교 3학년 여고생을 대상으로 초경 시작 전인 초등학교 4학년부터 고등학교 2학년까지의 키, 몸무게, 가슴둘레 수치와 초경 연령을 파악하여 여성의 초경이 빠를수록 체성장 속도의 변화가 있을 것이라는 가설을 기초로 두 요인간의 관련성을 파악하고자 시행되었다. 경주시 1개 여자고등학교 3학년생 총 317명에 대해 ㅊ경 나이, 초경시 심리 상태, 초경이 시작되었을 때의 상담 여부와 상담하였던 사람, 부모 신장과 초경전후의 식사 규칙성, 다이어트 경험, 수면시간, 스트레스, 음주/흡연 여부, 질병력 등에 대한 설문 조사를 시행하였고, 초등학교 4학년부터 고등학교 2학년까지의 키, 몸무게, 가슴둘레에 대한 정보는 건강기록부에서 확보하였다. 상기 대상자 중 건강기록부가 분실된 39명, 초경나이에 대해 응답하지 않았던 29명 및 결석 등으로 조사를 하지 못하였던 42명을 제외한 조사 대상자는 206명으로 선정하였다. 대상자들의 초경연령 평균값(Mean±SD)은 13.0±1.11이었고, 초등학교 4학년부터 고등학교 2학년까지의 초경 이후 신장 성장률은 감소하였으며, 초경연령이 빠른 군이 초등학교 때는 신장에 있어서 우위를 차지하나 고등학교에 오면서 신장은 비슷한 수준이 되었다. 초경후 1-2년 사이에 체중과 흉위의 증가율은 감소하였고, 초경연령이 빠른 군이 초등학교와 고등학교 사이에 체중과 흉위에서 모두 우위를 차지하였다. 본 연구의 결과는, 흔히 이차 성징의 시작 시점 혹은 사춘기의 시작 시점으로 보고있는 초경 연령이 청소년기의 성장과 밀접한 관련성이 있고, 특히 체중과 흉위의 성장 속도와 밀접한 관련성이 있음을 시사한다. To understand the onset of menarche in relation to changes in physical growth that take place during female adolescence, especially the changes in height and weight velocity. The 207 senior in one women high school of Kyongju were investigated in April 3 to 8, 2001. We collected the information, relation in the age at menarche, height & weight of parents, regularity of eating, and obesity diet, duration of sleeping, sickness & stress near age at menarche, by self-recording. The status of height, weight & chest circumference between the 4th grade of primary school and the junior of high school was collected by individual Health Record. The results were followed; The average age at menarche was 12.95±1.11 years old and the most frequent age of menarche is 13 years. After menarche, the velocity of height, weight and chest circumference were decreased. The most rapid group of menarche hold dominant position in height during elementary school. As time passed, they dont hold dominant position in height. The most rapid group of menarche get an advantage in the weight and the girth of chest after elementary school. The height of subjects is directly proportional to the height of their parents. These results suggest that the starting age at menestuation can be closely associated with physical growth and development.

        One of the key technologies of intelligent tire monitering system is measuring the deformation of the tire during driving. Tire deformation of the sensor should be operated at extreme conditions and needs wireless communication capability. In this paper, we investigated the feasibility of MEMS SAW sensor as a tire deformation sensor using 3 point bending machine.

      • Design model for analysis of relationships among CO<sub>2</sub> emissions, cost, and structural parameters in green building construction with composite columns

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Although a concrete-filled steel tube (CFT) column, which is one of the composite columns frequently used in building construction because of its structural performance, economic feasibility, and good space utilization, has a high potential to reduce CO<SUB>2</SUB> emissions because of combining two heterogeneous materials, the relationship among CO<SUB>2</SUB> emissions, cost, and structural parameters in green construction of buildings with CFT columns was not yet carried out. In this study, an optimum design model was proposed to analyze the relationship. Based on the analysis, it was founded that CFT with circular sections were more effective than square type in terms of CO<SUB>2</SUB> emissions and cost by 57.03% and 11.18%, respectively, while square type was advantageous in aspect of space utilization than the circular section by 9.73%. Also, with the consideration of various strengths of materials, CO<SUB>2</SUB> emissions, cost, and space utilization for the columns can be reduced by 24.38%, 29.66%, and 21.08%, respectively. In addition, the proposed model was applied to construction of a 35-story real building. From the analysis of optimum designs for the building, the circular section was more advantageous than square section regarding the CO<SUB>2</SUB> emission and material cost by 2.47% and 8.57%, respectively, while square section occupied smaller space than circular section by 17.95%. It is concluded that CO<SUB>2</SUB> emission, cost, and space utilization of the column in the real building can be reduced by 21.05%, 14.97%, and 20.18%, respectively, with the optimum section type and material strength.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> GA-based CO2 optimization model was proposed to analyze the relationship among CO<SUB>2</SUB> emissions, cost, and structural parameters in green construction of building. </LI> <LI> CO<SUB>2</SUB> emissions and cost can be reduced with the optimum circular CFT section compared with square section by 51.03% and 11.18%, respectively. </LI> <LI> CO<SUB>2</SUB> emission for green construction of a 35-story real residential building was investigated. </LI> <LI> Efficiencies of CO<SUB>2</SUB> emission, cost, and space utilization in the green construction of the real building can be improved by 21.05%, 14.97%, and 20.18%, respectively, with the optimum section type and material strength of the CFT column. </LI> </UL> </P>

        Culturing characteristics of Hanwoo myosatellite cells and C2C12 cells incubated at 37℃ and 39℃ for cultured meat

        To improve culture efficiency of Hanwoo myosatellite cells, these cells were cultured at different temperatures. Hanwoo myosatellite cells were compared with C2C12 cells to observe proliferation and differentiation at culture temperatures of 37℃ and 39℃ and determine the possibility of using them as cultured meat. Immunofluorescence staining using Pax7 and Hoechst, both cells cultured at 37℃ proliferated better than cultured at 39℃ (p < 0.05). When differentiated cells were stained with myosin and Hoechst, there was no significant difference in myotube thickness and Fusion index (p > 0.05). In Western blotting analysis, Hanwoo myosatellite cells were no significant difference in the expression of myosin between cells differentiated at the two temperatures (p > 0.05). C2C12 cells were no significant difference in the expression of myosin between cells differentiated at the two temperatures (p > 0.05). In reverse transcription and quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) analysis, Hanwoo myosatellite cells cultured at 39℃ had significantly (p < 0.05) higher expression levels of MyHC, MYF6, and MB than those cultured at 37℃. C2C12 cells cultured at 39℃ showed significantly (p < 0.05) higher expression levels of MYOG and MB than those cultured at 37℃. To increase culture efficiency of Hanwoo myosatellite cells, proliferating at 37℃ and differentiating at 39℃ are appropriate. Since results of temperature differences of Hanwoo myosatellite cells were similar to those of C2C12 cells, they could be used as a reference for producing cultured meat using Hanwoo satellite cells.

      • Application of the Expansion Method for Spherical Harmonics for Evaluation of the Identical Two Center Overlap Integrals and Dipole Moment Matrix Elements

        It is performed to derive the master formulas for two center overlap integrals and the dipole moment matrix elements between pairs of the identical Slater type atomic orbitals (n=3,5) by the expansion method for spherical harmonics. The numerical values of two center overlap integrals and the dipole moment matrix elements evaluated by this method are compared with those of Mulliken's overlap method and the transformation method of the dipole moment matrix elements into overlap integrals for Mulliken, respectively. The result by two methods are exactly in agreement with each other.

        변형 Bessel 함수 ?? 및 ?? 를 포함하는 지름적분 ??를 전개하였다. 우선 n과 K값에 따라 지름적분을 정의하였다.〈ps |5s〉,〈pp|5s〉, 〈pd|5s〉,〈 ps|6p〉,〈 pp|6p〉및 〈pd|6p〉(s orbital :p=1∼ 5; p orbital :p=2~6; d orbital : p 3∼6)등의 행열요소에 대한 analytical formulas를 얻기 위하여 형태의 지름 적분을 계산하였다. Evaluation of the radial integral ?? involving the modified Bessel functions, ?? and ??, has been performed in this work. First, we define the radial integrals depending on n and K, and then evaluate this type integrals to obtain analytical formulas for two center overlap matrix elements such as<ps|5s >,<pp|5s>, <pd|5s> <ps|6p>,<pp|6p>and <pd|6p>(s orbital: p=1∼5; p orbital: p=2∼6; d orbital: p=3∼6).
