      • Enhanced biomass and lipid production by supplement of myo-inositol with oceanic microalga Dunaliella salina

        We investigated the effects of inositols, which are well-known plant growth-promoting agents, on the growth of the oceanic microalga Dunaliella salina. Of the four inositol derivatives tested (myo-inositol, scyllo-inositol, d-chiro-inositol, and l-chiro-inositol), myo-inositol (MI) showed the greatest growth-promoting effect in a concentration-dependent manner. The yield of biomass from the alga cultured with 500 mg L<SUP>-1</SUP> of MI was 1.48-times that of the control culture. No significant effect of MI on the total carotenoid content was observed, but neutral lipid content was significantly increased, 1.34-times greater than the control. MI also influenced the fatty acid methyl ester composition, with the levels of linoleic, linolenic, and linolelaidic acids significantly higher than those of the control culture. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first demonstration that MI promotes the growth of a marine microalga. Our results suggest that MI has potential for enhancing the efficiency of biofuel production by D. salina through growth promotion and increasing lipid productivity.

        In order to know about the trend of utilization of Health Subcenter in Su-Dong community, a study was carried out through analyzing the reports on the status of out-patients in Su-Dong Health Subcenter during 5 years from 1976 to 1980, and following results were obtained. 1) Population of Su-Dong Myun was changed from 5,424 in 1975 to 5,211 in 1979. 2) The annual utilization rate of Health Subcenter of Su-Dong Myun showed decreasing tendency from 803.3 in 1976 to 700.6 in 1980 per 1,000 population. 3) In terms of annual utilization rate by age group, the highest group is 0-4 age group and the lowest group is 15-24 age group every year. 4) The average visiting time per case to Health subcenter showed 1.75 times in 1978, 1.69 times in 1979 and 1.60 times in 1980. 5) In terms of utilization rate of Su-Dong Health Subcenter by Ries, the highest rate was shown in Ribsouk 2 Rie and the lowest in Gidoon. 6) The 5 major diseases cared in Health Subcenter were as follows : Diseases of the Respiratory System, Diseases of the Digestive System, Diseases of the Skin and Subcutaneous Tissue, Accident, Poisoning and Violence, and Diseases of the Nervous System and Sense Organs in the year of 1976∼1980. 7) Annual average medical fee per first visiting was increased such as 405(₩) in 1976, 653(₩) in 1977, 1,090(₩) in 1978, 1,650(₩) in 1979 and 1,970(₩) in 1980. And annual average medical fee per case was also increased such as 923(₩) in 1977, 1,450(₩) in 1978, 2,540(₩) in 1979 and 2,990(₩) in 1980.

        The research is focused on the stability in which the incoming heat to the evaporator is in creased and transfer capability which is required in designing of a system. First, in case the incoming heat to the thermosyphon evaporator is increased and the quantity of operational fluid is less than the requirement, the surface temperature of evaporator increases, which can make the system abnormal and cause damage to the system to be out of order. Therefore, the aim of this research is to study the characteristics in which the heating amount of the thermosyphon is increased.

      • 자유드로잉 제품과 패드를 설치한 드로잉 제품의 특성

        본 연구는 자체 제작한 전체 패드가 부착된 드로잉 금형을 이용하여 SUS, 연강, AI, 6:4황동 판재를 드로잉 가공하여 생산된 제품의 특성을 자유드로잉 하여 얻은 제품의 특성과 비교 분석하였다. SUS 판재의 경우 제품에 발생하는 현상은 벽 주름, 구변주름, 수직 파단, 드로잉상처, 이어링이 발생하였으며 길이변화는 펀치어깨부분에서 가장 많이 늘어남을 볼 수 있었고 벽 주름 부분에 있어서 접혀진 부분은 상대적으로 적게 늘어남을 볼 수 있었다. 연강 판재는 SUS 판재에서 보여준 현상을 나타내었으나 SUS 판재에 비해 수직 파단은 적게 일어난 반면 이어링이 더 크게 일어났다. AI 판재의 경우 수직 파단은 일어나지 않았으나 플랜지 주름과 밑면터짐이 발생하였다. 6:4황동의 경우는 전체패드의 AI 판재 드로잉에서와 같이 밑면터짐과 플랜지 주름의 발생이 일어났다.

        조제시 정제분할에 의한 중량편차

        Although original tablets are almost fit in weight variation test, in many cases, tablets are practically splitted for dose control in dispensing. These splitted tablets are considered secondary cause of weight variation. So, in this study tablets were classified into three groups by the average weight, first group was below 0.12g(A), second was more than 0.12g below 0.3g(B) and third was more than 0.3g(C). Each group consists of four kinds of tablet and weight variation after tablet splitting was calculated. As a result, average violation rate of weight variation test was 60% for A group, 42.5% for B group, 55% for C group. And the relation of hardness of tablet was the higher rate of weight variation. In conclusion, split of tablet for dose control in dispending was absolutely a cause of dose mistake. Especially drugs having side effect or toxic effect should be carefully when pharmacists split of tablet for dose control in dispending was absolutely a cause of dose mistake.         유형별 완전혼합사료 급여가 반추위내의 발효성상 및 영양소 소화율에 미치는 영향

        This study was conducted to examine effects of feeding dry TMR(DTMR), wet TMR(WTMR) and fermented TMR(FTMR) on rumen fermentation, enzyme activity and digestibility in the total tract of sheep. Three rumen cannulated sheep were used in a 3 × 3 latin square design. The present results showed that ?, NH_(3)-N, total and individual VFA, A/P ratio and enzymes (CMCase, Xylanase and Protease) activity in the rumen were higher in WTMR and FTMR compared with DTMR. In addition, dry matter, organic matter, crude protein, ether extract, NDF and ADF digestibility in the total tract were also higher in WTMR and FTMR compared with DTMR. Therefore, the present results showed that WTMR and FTMr are better than DTMR for rumen fermentation and nutrients digestibility.

        Ultraviolet-C efficacy against a norovirus surrogate and hepatitis A virus on a stainless steel surface

        In this study, the effects of 10-300mWs/cm<SUP>2</SUP> of ultraviolet radiation (UV-C) at 260nm were investigated for the inactivation of two foodborne viruses: murine norovirus-1 (MNV-1; a human norovirus [NoV] surrogate) and hepatitis A virus (HAV). We used an experimentally contaminated stainless steel surface, a common food-contact surface, to examine the effects of low doses of UV-C radiation on MNV-1 and HAV titers. The modified Gompertz equation was used to generate non-linear survival curves and calculate d<SUB>R</SUB>-values as the UV-C dose of 90% reduction for MNV-1 (R<SUP>2</SUP>=0.95, RMSE=0.038) and HAV (R<SUP>2</SUP>=0.97, RMSE=0.016). Total MNV-1 and HAV titers significantly decreased (p<0.05) with higher doses of UV-C. MNV-1 and HAV were reduced to 0.0-4.4 and 0.0-2.6 log<SUB>10</SUB>PFU/ml, respectively, on the stainless steel surfaces by low-dose UV-C treatment. The d<SUB>R</SUB>-value, 33.3mWs/cm<SUP>2</SUP> for MNV-1 was significantly (p<0.05) lower than 55.4mWs/cm<SUP>2</SUP> of HAV. Therefore, the present study shows that HAV is more resistant to UV-C radiation than MNV-1. These data suggest that low doses of UV-C light on food contact surfaces could be effective to inactivate human NoV and HAV in restaurant, institutional, and industrial kitchens and facilities.

        Pole figure measurement of the initial growth of GaN nanoneedles on GaN/Si(111) by using hydride vapor phase epitaxy

        <P>We report on crystallographic analyses of one-dimensional GaN nanoneedles grown on a n-GaN epilayer by using hydride vapor phase epitaxy. The nanoneedles were grown with a HCl:NH3 gas flow ratio of 1:38 at 600 A degrees C. The growth time of the GaN nanoneedles affected their morphologies. As time progressed, GaN dots nucleated and then evolved as nanoneedles. The vertical growth rate of GaN nanoneedles was higher than the lateral growth rate under optimized growth conditions. X-ray pole figure measurements were carried out using a four-axis diffractometer. For the sample grown for 20 min, we obtained discrete patterns with six strong dots and weak dough-nut and cotton swab patterns, indicating that most of the nanoneedles were grown ideally, but partially, in the x-y plane with an azimuthal rotation angle I center dot = 15 similar to 45A degrees rotated to the substrate, and a few GaN nanoneedles were tilted by +/- 4A degrees or by more than 32A degrees from the vertical c-axis.</P>

      • Transplantation of Neural-Induced Mesenchymal Stem Cells for Spinal Cord Injury in Dogs

        Cell transplantation therapy using adult stem cells has recently been identified as a potential treatment for spinal cord injury (SCI). But, recovery after traumatic SCI is very limited. As dogs are physiologically much more similar to human compared with other traditional mammalian models in disease presentation and clinical responses, a number of researches demonstrated canis familiaris is a suitable model for human diseases. This study investigated the effect of transplantation of canine Mesenchymal Stem Cells (cMSC) and neural-induced cMSC (nMSC) to understand how these cells improve neurological function in canine SCI model. The differentiation of cMSC into neural precursor cells was induced in dulbecco’s modified eagle’s medium supplemented with N2-supplement, dibutyryl cyclic adenosine monophosphate, and butylated hydroxyanisole. SCI was induced between T1 and T2 by surgical hemi-section in adult dogs, and then assigned to two groups according to the applied cell types (cMSC vs nMSC). Pelleted cMSC or nMSC were transplanted directly into the injured site after SCI, respectively. Analysis of motor function after transplantation was evaluated by modified Olby score. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), histological and immunohistichemical analysis were also performed. Functional recovery in group of cMSC was increasing gradually after transplantation and was higher than nMSC. In MRI, we could not confirm any difference between the cMSC and nMSC experimental groups. Immunohistochemically, beta3-tubuline and nestin were observed in injury site of two experimental groups with the expression level close to non-injured groups. Transplantation of mesenchymal stem cells could promote neuronal reconstruction and repair motor function in SCI. These showed mesenchymal stem cells could be a great candidate as a therapeutic tools in degeneration disease, and dogs could be used to explore human regenerative medicine as a promising animal model.
