Direct immunofluorescent (DIF) starining was performed on biopsy specimens from four patients with pityraasis lichenoides chronica. Deposits of IgM and C3 were foundin the dermal vessel walls of the lesional skin in two patients with pityriasis lichenoides chronic. Deposition of C3 and cytoid bodies were detected along the dermo-epidermal junction in one patient. This supports the view that deposition of immune complexes may play a part in the pathogenesis of pityriasis lichenoides chronica.

A feeding trial was carried out to determine the effects of chromium methionine (Cr-Met) chelate and forage levelover two years, 1st fattening and 2nd fattening period on growth parameters, carcass characteristics and bloodmetabolites of 46 Korean native (Hanwoo, Bos Taurus, BW = 183 ± 44 kg) steers. Treatments were: 1) Steers in thelow forage (LF) group were fed diets that consisted of 60% concentrate and 40% forage; 2) Steers in the highforage (HF) group were fed diets that consisted of 40% concentrate and 60% forage. Following the 1st fatteningperiod, steers (BW = 480 ± 37.6 kg) were randomly assigned to four treatment groups: LF (40 F plus no Cr-Metsupplementation in the 2nd fattening period), LFCM (40LF plus added 400 ppb of Cr-Met during the 2nd fatteningperiod), HF (60 F plus no added Cr-Met during the 2nd fattening period) and HFCM (60 F plus added 400 ppb ofCr-Met in the 2nd fattening period). Dry matter intake of the treatment diets did not differ during the raising and1th fattening period (P > 0.05). The ADG in the raising period showed no difference between the 40 F and 60 Fgroups (P > 0.05). Carcass characteristics including rib-eye area and meat yield index were higher in HF than theother treatment groups (P < 0.05). The HF group tended to show a higher (P = 0.08) marbling score than the LFgroup whereas the HFCM group showed a higher marbling score than the LFCM group (P < 0.05). HDL washigher and LDL lower in groups fed with Cr-Met than in other groups whereas glucose showed the lowest valuein HF group (P < 0.05). Triglyceride (TG), Cholesterol, PUN and total protein (TP) were the same among all treatmentgroups (P > 0.05). The Insulin concentration in the blood was significantly higher for the HFCM group than for the LF,LFCM and HF groups (P < 0.05). It is concluded that supplementation of chromium-methionine chelate could improvemeat quality in beef steers.

The histogenesis and differentiation of sweat gland tumors are controversial. Twenty-two cases of sweat gland tumors were stained by immunoperoxidase technique (ABC method) for the presence of S-100 protein, CEA, and two kinds of keratin. Four syringomas, 4 eccrine poromas, 2 eccrine porocarcinomas, 2 eccrine spiradenomas, 1 papillary eccrine adenoma, 3 clear cell hidradenomas, 3 mixed tumors of skin, 2 papillary syringocystadenomas, and 1 cylindroma were included. All samples were formalin-fixed and paraffin-erribedded. Two monoclonal cytokeratin ant.ibodies, MA-902 (specific for cytokeratin No. 8) and MA-903 (specific for cytokeratins No.1,5,10,11) were used. In normal eccrine and apocrine glands, MA-902 stains cells of the intradermal duct and secretory portion. While MA-903 stains cells of the intraepidermal and intradermal duct and myoepithelial cells of eccine and apocrine glands, S-100 protein is found in the secretory cells of the intradermalduct and secretory portion, while CEA stains the secretory and ductal cells of eccrine and apocrine glands. All sweat gland tumors we studied stained by 4 antibodies in variable positive rates, Based on these findings, we discuss the histogenesis of various sweat gland tumors. S-100 protein is a mixture of three proteins, that is, S-100 ao(aa), S-100 a(ab) and, S- 100 b(bb). Twenty-two case, of sweat gland tumors were stained with immunoperoxidase technique (ABC method) for the presence of S-100a and b-subunit. Four syringomas, four eccrine poromas, two eccrine porocarcinomas, two ecerine spirdeiomas, one papillary eccrine adenoma, three clear cell hidradenomas, three mixed tumr rs of the skin, two papillary syringocystadenomas, and one cylindroma were included. All specimens were formalin-fixed and paraffin-embedded. The results were as follows : 1) The staining patterns of anti-S-100a and b-protein antibodies we e simillar to those of anti-S-100 protein antibody except in eccrine poroma and porocare nomal. 2) In eccrine poroma and porocarcinoma, scattered S-100-positive dendritic cells within tumor cell nests were stained by S-100-protein antibody (3/6), but not by anti-S-100a protein antibody. S-100p is present in normal Langerhans cells. Therefore this finding suggests that these cells niay be Langerhans cells. (Kor J Dermatol 1992;30(4):446-453)

We describe a patient with cutaneous angiocentric immunoproliferative lesion (AIL) associated with the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV). An organ system survey revealed no evidence of internal involvement. A skin biopsy specimen showed infiltrating cells involving mainly deeper dermis and subcutaneous tissue. An examination of the reticular dermis revealed polymorphous angiocentric and angioinvasive infiltrate containing some atypical lymphocytes and histiocytes. EBV encoded RNA (EBER) was demonstrated in lesional skin by the in situ hybridization technique. On the basis of these findings, we conclude that our case may represent a form of AIL associated with EBV showing histologic features of classical lymphomatoid granulomatosis.
