Porous membranes in pressure-assisted forward osmosis: Flux behavior and potential applications

        Yang Yang,Xueli Gao,Zhaokui Li,Qun Wang,Senjie Dong,Xiaojuan Wang,Zhun Ma,Leyi Wang,Xinyan Wang,Congjie Gao 한국공업화학회 2018 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.60 No.-

In this work, pressured-assisted forward osmosis (PAFO) was performed using porous membranes to achieve higher fluxes. The effects of additional pressure and membrane orientation on membrane performance were investigated. When ultralow additional pressure (0.04 bar) was applied, the water flux at AL-FS orientation (i.e. active layer facing the feed solution) was observed to double. Reverse solute diffusion was also inhibited dramatically at both membrane orientations in PAFO. Filtration tests revealed that porous membranes with ultralow pressure in FO were more applicable than ultrafiltration (UF) because mild condition (i.e., 0.12 bar versus 1.25 bar) is conducive to preserving microalgae cell integrity.

      • Systematic Review of Single Large and/or Multinodular Hepatocellular Carcinoma: Surgical Resection Improves Survival

        Yang, Xiang-Di,Pan, Ling-Hui,Wang, Lin,Ke, Yang,Cao, Ji,Yang, Chun,Zhong, Jian-Hong,Luo, Wang,Guo, Jiao,Li, Le-Qun Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2015 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.16 No.13

Background: The role of surgical resection for patients with single large (${\geq}5cm$) and/or multinodular (${\geq}2$) hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is still controversial. This systematic review was performed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of resection for patients with single large and/or multinodular HCC. Materials and Methods: Databases (the PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, and Cochrane databases) were systematically searched to identify relevant studies exploring the safety and efficacy of resection for single large and/or multinodular HCC, published between January 2000 and December 2014. Perioperative morbidity and mortality, overall survival, and disease-free survival of the resection group were calculated. In addition, these outcome variables were also calculated for the control group in the included studies. Results: One randomized controlled trial and 42 nonrandomized studies involving 9,580 patients were eligible for analysis. Eight (1,594 patients) of the 43 studies also reported the outcomes of transarterial chemoembolization (TACE). Although 51.4% of patients featured cirrhosis, 90.7% of them demonstrated Child-Pugh A liver function in the resection group. The median rates of morbidity (24.5%) and mortality (2.5%) after resection were significantly higher than that of TACE (11.0%, P<0.001; 1.9%, P<0.001). However, patients who underwent resection had significantly higher median one-, three-, and five-year overall survival (76.1%, 51.7%, and 37.4%) than those who underwent TACE (68.3%, 31.5%, and 17.5%, all P<0.001). The median 1-, 3-, and 5-year DFS rates after resection were 58.3%, 34.6%, and 24.0%, respectively. Conclusions: Although tumor recurrence after resection for patients with single large and/ or multinodular HCC continues to be a major problem, resection should be considered as a strategy to achieve long-term survival.

Radioactive gas diffusion simulation and inhaled effective dose evaluation during nuclear decommissioning

        Li-qun Yang,Yong-kuo Liu,Min-jun Peng,Abiodun Ayodeji,Zhi-tao Chen,Ze-yu Long 한국원자력학회 2022 Nuclear Engineering and Technology Vol.54 No.1

During the decommissioning of the nuclear facilities, the radioactive gases in pressure vessels may leakdue to the demolition operations. The decommissioning site has large space, slow air circulation, andmany large nuclear facilities, which increase the difficulty of workers' inhalation exposure assessment. Inorder to dynamically evaluate the activity distribution of radionuclides and the committed effective dosefrom inhalation in nuclear decommissioning environment, an inhalation exposure assessment methodbased on the modified eddy-diffusion model and the inhaled dose conversion factor is proposed in thispaper. The method takes into account the influence of building, facilities, exhaust ducts, etc. on thedistribution of radioactive gases, and can evaluate the influence of radioactive gases diffusion on workersduring the decommissioning of nuclear facilities.

Dynamic positioning error analysis and modeling of CNC machine tool guideway system

Li Li,Hongtao Yang,Yu Zhang,Qun Ma 대한기계학회 2021 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.35 No.5

The dynamic characteristics of the XY worktable are thoroughly analyzed in this study to accurately compensate the measurement errors of on-machine measurement systems caused by the dynamic and static characteristics under multiple factors. The dynamic positioning error model of the XY worktable motion components is established, and the theoretical model of the dynamic positioning error of the XY worktable is derived. The actual parameters of the experimental platform for the correlation error of CNC machine tools are substituted into the model for theoretical calculation and analysis. Results show that the motion speed of the worktable, the weight of the measured workpiece, the installation position of the workpiece, and the friction force are the main factors causing the dynamic positioning error. Dynamic positioning error analysis and verification experiments were conducted to verify the validity of the proposed theoretical model. Experimental results show that a regular change occurs between the dynamic positioning error and the movement speed of the XY worktable, and the actual measurement results are basically consistent with the theoretical calculation results. The research results can lay a good foundation for establishing the measurement error prediction and compensation model of on-machine measurement systems of CNC machine tools and improving its measurement accuracy.

A Fast Gamma-Ray Dose Rate Assessment Method for Complex Geometries Based on Stylized Model Reconstruction

        Li-qun Yang,Yong-kuo Liu,Min-jun Peng,Meng-kun Li,Nan Chao 한국원자력학회 2019 Nuclear Engineering and Technology Vol.51 No.5

A fast gamma-ray dose rate assessment method for complex geometries based on stylized modelreconstruction and point-kernel method is proposed in this paper. The complex three-dimensional (3D)geometries are imported as a 3DS format file from 3dsMax software with material and radiometric attributes. Based on 3D stylized model reconstruction of solid mesh, the 3D-geometrical solids are automaticallyconverted into stylized models. In point-kernel calculation, the stylized source models aredivided into point kernels and the mean free paths (mfp) are calculated by the intersections betweenshield stylized models and tracing ray. Compared with MCNP, the proposed method can implementcomplex 3D geometries visually, and the dose rate calculation is accurate and fast.

CK2 phosphorylates AP-2α and increases its transcriptional activity

( Kai Qun Ren ),( Shuang Lin Xiang ),( Fang Li He ),( Wen Feng Zhang ),( Xiao Feng Ding ),( Yan Yang Wu ),( Li Ping Yang ),( Jian Lin Zhou ),( Xiang Gao ),( Jian Zhang ) 생화학분자생물학회(구 한국생화학분자생물학회) 2011 BMB Reports Vol.44 No.7

Transcription factor AP-2α involves in the process of mammalian embryonic development and tumorigenesis. Many studies have shown that AP-2α functions in association with other interacting proteins. In a two-hybrid screening, the regulatory subunit β of protein casein kinase 2 (CK2β) was identified as an interacting protein of AP-2α; we confirmed this interaction using in-vitro GST pull-down and in-vivo co-immunoprecipitation assays; in an endogenous co-immunoprecipitation experiment, we further found the catalytic subunit α of protein casein kinase 2 (CK2α) also exists in the complex. Phosphorylation analysis revealed that AP-2α was phosphorylated by CK2 kinase majorly at the site of Ser429, and such phosphorylation could be blocked by CK2 specific inhibitor 4,5,6,7-tetrabromobenzotriazole (TBB) in a dose-dependent manner. Luciferase assays demonstrated that both CK2α and CK2β enhanced the transcription activity of AP-2α; moreover, CK2β increased the stability of AP-2α. Our data suggest a novel cellular function of CK-2 as a transcriptional co-activator of AP-2α.

Ginsenoside Rg1 attenuates cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury due to inhibition of NOX2- mediated calcium homeostasis dysregulation in mice

        Yuli Han,Xuewang Li,Liu Yang,Duoduo Zhang,Lan Li,Xianan Dong,Yan Li,Sen Qun,Weizu Li 고려인삼학회 2022 Journal of Ginseng Research Vol.46 No.4

Background: The incidence of ischemic cerebrovascular disease is increasing in recent years and has beenone of the leading causes of neurological dysfunction and death. Ginsenoside Rg1 has been found toprotect against neuronal damage in many neurodegenerative diseases. However, the effect and mechanismby which Rg1 protects against cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury (CIRI) are not fully understood. Here, we report the neuroprotective effects of Rg1 treatment on CIRI and its possible mechanisms inmice. Methods: A bilateral common carotid artery ligation was used to establish a chronic CIRI model in mice. HT22 cells were treated with Rg1 after OGD/R to study its effect on [Ca2þ]i. The open-field test and poleclimbingexperiment were used to detect behavioral injury. The laser speckle blood flowmeter was usedto measure brain blood flow. The Nissl and H&E staining were used to examine the neuronal damage. TheWestern blotting was used to examine MAP2, PSD95, Tau, p-Tau, NOX2, PLC, p-PLC, CN, NFAT1, and NLRP1expression. Calcium imaging was used to test the level of [Ca2þ]i. Results: Rg1 treatment significantly improved cerebral blood flow, locomotion, and limb coordination, reduced ROS production, increased MAP2 and PSD95 expression, and decreased p-Tau, NOX2, p-PLC, CN,NFAT1, and NLRP1 expression. Calcium imaging results showed that Rg1 could inhibit calcium overloadand resist the imbalance of calcium homeostasis after OGD/R in HT22 cells. Conclusion: Rg1 plays a neuroprotective role in attenuating CIRI by inhibiting oxidative stress, calciumoverload, and neuroinflammation.

      • Expression of Ang-2/Tie-2 and PI3K/AKT in Colorectal Cancer

        Zhang, Ji-Hong,Wang, Li-Hua,Li, Xiang-Jun,Wang, Ai-Ping,Reng, Li-Qun,Xia, Feng-Guo,Yang, Zhi-Ping,Jiang, Jing,Wang, Xiao-Dan,Wen, Chun-Yang Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.20

Purpose: To study the expression of angiogenin-2 (Ang-2) and its receptor Tie-2 in colorectal cancer and discuss the possible mechanisms behind this process. Materials and Methods: Using the streptavidin-peroxidase (SP) immunohistochemical method, paraffin sections from 100 colorectal cancer samples and 10 samples from tumor-adjacent normal tissue (> 2 cm from the edge of the gross tumor) were tested for protein expression of Ang-2, Tie-2, PI3K, and AKT. Reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction and Western blots were further used to measure expression of the 4 genes and proteins in 20 freshly-resected colorectal cancer samples and tumor-adjacent normal tissues. Results: In colorectal cancer tissues, the expression of the Ang-2, Tie-2, PI3K, and AKT genes and their proteins was significantly higher than in tumor-adjacent normal tissues. Protein expression in poorly-differentiated adenocarcinoma was higher than that in well and moderately differentiated adenocarcinoma. According to Duke's classification, the protein expression in Stages C and D was significantly higher than that in Stages A and B. In the group with lymphatic metastasis, the protein expression was higher than that without lymphatic metastasis. Conclusions: In colorectal cancer, the expression of the Ang-2, Tie-2, PI3K, and AKT genes and their proteins is markedly higher than those in tumor-adjacent normal tissues. No correlation was observed between protein expression and gender, location, or histologic type. Correlations did exist between protein expression and differentiation level, stage of Duke's classification, and lymphatic metastasis; in colorectal cancer tissues with lower differentiation levels, higher stages of Duke's classification, and lymphatic metastasis, the expression of all 4 proteins was higher. The study of their expression patterns and relationships with aggression and metastasis will provide a valuable experimental foundation for assessing prognosis and targeted therapy of colorectal cancer.

Breviscapine Ameliorates Fear Extinction and Anxiety in BALB/cJ Mice

        Wei Liang(Wei Liang),Jing Huang(Jing Huang),Shuya Yang(Shuya Yang),Peng Huang(Peng Huang),Jun Chen(Jun Chen),Chen Chen(Chen Chen),Qun Yang(Qun Yang),Fengzhan Li(Fengzhan Li) 대한신경정신의학회 2023 PSYCHIATRY INVESTIGATION Vol.20 No.3

Objective In this research, the influence of breviscapine on anxiety, fear elimination, and aggression and the potential mechanism was investigated. Methods Anxiety and locomotion were analyzed by elevated plus maze and open field test in mice. Bussey-Saksida Mouse Touch Screen Chambers were used to perform fear conditioning. Territorial aggression was assessed by resident intruder test. Protein levels were evaluated by Western blot. Breviscapine improved fear-extinction learning in BALB/cJ mice. Results Breviscapine at 20-100 mg/kg increased center cross number, total distance traveled, and velocity in a dose-dependent manner. On the other hand, breviscapine at 20-100 mg/kg decreased the immobility time in open field test. In addition, breviscapine at 20-100 mg/kg increased the ratio of time on the open arm, time on the distal parts of the open arm, and total distance traveled in elevated plus maze. Breviscapine at 100 mg/kg increased the average attack latency and decreased the number of attacks over the last 3 days of resident intruder test. In hippocampus, protein levels of postsynaptic density protein-95 and synaptophysin were elevated by breviscapine at these three doses. Conclusion The administration of breviscapine alleviates fear extinction, anxiety, and aggression, while increases locomotor in a dose-dependent manner, which might be associated with its influence on synaptic function.

Electrical signal characteristics of conductive asphalt concrete in the process of fatigue cracking

        Yang, Qun,Li, Xu,Wang, Ping,Zhang, Hong-Wei Techno-Press 2014 Smart Structures and Systems, An International Jou Vol.14 No.3

As a kind of intelligent materials, conductive asphalt concrete has a broad application prospect including melting ice and snow on the pavement, closing cracks in asphalt concrete, sensing pavement damage, and so on. Conductive pavement will be suffered from fatigue failure as conventional pavement in the process of service, and this fatigue damage of internal structure can be induced by electrical signal output. The characteristics of electrical signal variation of conductive asphalt concrete in the process of fatigue cracking were researched in this paper. The whole process was clearly divided into three stages according to resistance changes, and the development of fatigue damage wasn't obvious in stage I and stage II, while in stage III, the synchronicity between the resistance and damage began to appear. Thus, fatigue damage variable D and initial damage value $D_0$ represented by the functions of resistance were introduced in stage III. After calculating the initial damage value $D_0$ under different stress levels, it was concluded that the initial damage value $D_0$ had no noticeable change, just ranged between 0.24 and 0.25. This value represented a critical point which could be used to inform the repair time of early fatigue damage in the conductive asphalt pavement.
