        골다공증에 따른 치조골 방사선사진농도와 하악하연두께의 변화에 대한 연구

        Purpose : To evaluate the effect of the systemic osteoporosis on radiographic density of alveolar bone and cortical thickness of mandible. Materials and Methods : The bone mineral density values of lumbar and femur were measured by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry and T scores of lumbar, femur were obtained respectively. Radiographic densities of alveolar bones and panorama mandibular index (PMI, represents as cortical thickness) were analysed statistically according to age and T score variables. Results : The radiographic density of alveolar bone of maxillary molar showed significant difference by age and femur T group. That of mandibular molar showed significant difference between femur T group. Panorama mandibular index showed significant difference between age groups. Conclusion : The radiographic density of alvealar bones was more dependent on age and femur T than lumbar T. Cortical thickness of mandible was correlated with increasing age.       • K^+통로개방제 Pinacidil이 종양이식 생쥐에서 Tl-201의 체내분포에 미치는 영향

        Purpose: Thallium behaves similarly to potassium in vivo. Potassium channel opener (K-opener) opens ATP-sensitive K+ -channel located at cell membrane, resulting in potassium efflux from cytosol. We have previously reported that K-opener can alter biokinetics of T1-201 in cultured cells and in vivo. Malignant tumor cells have high Na-K ATPase activity due to increased metabolic activities and dedifferentiation, and differential delineation of malignant tumor can be possible with T1-201 imaging K-opener may affect tumoral uptake of T1-201 in vivo. To investigate the effects of pinacidil (one of the potent K-openers) on the localization of the tumor with T1-201 chloride, we evaluated the changes in biodistribution of T1-201 with pinacidil treatment in tumor-bearing mice. Materials and Methods: Balb/c mice received subcuta-neous implantation of murine breast cancer cells in the thigh and were used for biodistribution study 3 weeks later. 100㎍ of pinacidil dissolved in 200 □ DMSO/PBS solution was injected intravenously via tail vein at 10 min after 185 KBq (5 □Ci) T1-201 injection, Percentage organ uptake and whole body retention ratio of T1-201 were measured at various periods after injection, and values were compared between control and pinacidil-treated mice. Results: Pinacidil treatment resulted in mild decrease in blood levels of T1-201, but renal uptakes were markedly decreased at 30-min, 1- and 2-hour, compared to control group. Hepatic, intestinal and muscular uptake were not different. Absolute percentage uptake and tumor to blood ratios of T1-201 were lower in pinacidil treated mice than in the control group at all time points measured. Whole body retention ratio of T1-201 was lower in pinacidil treated mice (58±4%), than in the control group (67±3%) at 24 hours after with injection of 100 □g pinacidil. Conclusion: K-opener did not enhance, but rather decreased absolute tumoral uptake and tumor-to-blood ratios of T1-201 Decreased whole body retention ratio and renal uptake were observed with pinacidil treatment in tumor-bearing mice.         골다공증의 진단시 파노라마 방사선사진 유용성에 대한 연구

        Purpose : To assess the possibility of using panoramic indices as an indicator of jaw osteoporosis. Methods : Mandibular cortical width(MCW), degree of mandibular alveolar bone resorption(ABR) and morphology of mandibular infeprior cortex(MIC) on panoramic radiograph were used as panoramic indices. These panoramic indices were compared with bone mineral density(BMD) of lumbar(L1-L4) and femoral neck measured by dual energy X-ray absorptiometry. We also compared MCW and ABR of young men with those of postmenopausal women. Results : There was a significant correlation between ABR and BMD of lumbar and femoral neck. And also significant correlation between MIC and BMD of lumbar and femoral neck. ANOVA test of BMD of lumbar and femoral neck showed significant differences according to morphologic classification of inferior cortex. There was significant difference in MCW and ABR between young men and postmenopausal women. Conclusion : Our results suggested that ABR and MIC on panoramic radiograph could be reliable in screening of osteoporosis.(Korean J Oral Maxillofac Radiol 2001;31:67-71)

      • 資本自由化와 韓國證券市場의 課題

        Korea now stands on the verge of capital liberalization in line with its open door economic policy. On January 14, 1981, the korean government announced a long-term plan concerning the liberalization of the capital market with emphasis on an open securities market. The liberalization of the securities market will be phased-in as follows; (1) allowing the establishment of international investment trusts to invest in listed korean securities and permitting the opening of branch offices of foreign securities firms in korea by 1984, (2) permitting foreign investors to directly invest in korean securities on a limited basis, around 1985, (3) permitting foreigners to invest in koran securities without any limitations and allowing the issuance of domestic securities in oversea markets by the late 1980s (4) permitting korean securities to be listed on foreign stock exchanges and allowing capital outflow by the early 1990s. In 1981, two open-end on-shore investment trusts; namely, "Korea Trust" and "Korea International Trust", were privately placed in the european market. In 1984, following these two international trusts of $50 million total, the $60 million Korea Fund, third round of three more international issues of korea-managed trusts(KGT, SIT and ST) totalling $90 million were completed. All six of these indirect vehicles have brought into korea $200 million of foreign capital. In the second stage, korean leading companies have launched oversea offerings of convertible bonds to further proceed with the market's liberalization. Sam Sung Electronics, Co., Dae Woo Heavy Ind. Co., and Yu Kong Ltd. Co., issued convertible bonds of $80 million total. The next step in the internationalization process following convertible issues or depositary receipts is limited direct access by foreign investors to the korean stock market. This is expected to occur sometime between 1987 and 1988. Our government contemplates that the last step in the market's liberalization; that is, the outflow of korean capital into foreign securities investments will take place after 1990 with the assumption that economic targets have been met, and more importantly, that the country has a current account surplus in its balance of payments. In connection with this, it is important for us to be better prepared for the upcoming internationalization of the korean capital market. First of all, the government must take measures to foster the functions of the korean capital market in both the primary and secondary markets. Secondly, the korean securities companies must be able to provide a wide range of financial services to its domestic and oversea clients.

        광범위하게 진행된 다발성 섬유성이형성증

        Fibrous dysplasia is a benign disorder of bone consisting of intramedullary proliferation of fibrous tissue and irregularly distributed, poorly developed bone. The disease manifests itself in the monostotic form in which only one bone is involved and the polyostotic form in which multiple bones at different sites are affected. We reported a extensive case of polyostotic fibrous dysplasia with involvement of craniofacial bones, mandible, ribs and extremities. A 18-year-old man showed remarkable right facial swelling who had been treated on right femur 3 years ago with a bone graft for pathologic fracture and he recognized facial swelling 5 years ago. Extraoral radiograms and computed tomogram showed diffuse sclerosis with a ground glass appearance of the most cranial bones, facial bones, The right mandibular lesion showed very expansive lesion with mottled appearance. Bone scans showed mutifocal increased uptakes in craniofacial bones, right mandible, bilaterally in ribs, humerus, femur, tibia and characteristic varus deformity of right femur (shepherd's crook defomity). This case showed exceptionally bilateral, extensive nature of bone lesion and didn't show any features of skin pigmentation and endocrine disturbances.(Korean J Oral maxillofac Radiol 2000 ; 30 : 117-122)

      • Bupivacaine과 ropivacaine이 Xenopus oocyte에 발현된 HERG 전류에 미치는 영향

        Bupivacaine is an amide-type local anesthetic widely used for regional anesthesia. Ropivacaine is developed as a less cardiotoxic alternatives to bupivacaine. In the present study, we have analyzed the effects of bupivacaine and ropivacaine on HERG currents expressed in Xenopus oocytes. Bupivacaine and ropivacaine(3∼1,000μM) blocked HERG currents in a concentration dependent manner. EC_(50) was 26.1±3.1μM(n_(R) 0.65±0.04) and 43.5±7.9μM(n_(H) 0.99±0.13) in bupivacaine and ropivacaine, respectively. Bupivacaine and ropivacaine did not affect the activation and deactivation kinetics of HERG channels. However, the drugs decreased the slope conductance measured from fully activated current-voltage relationship curves. These results suggest that bupivacaine and ropivacaine have a similarinhibitory effect on HERG channels, which could be a possible cellular mechanism of LQT or ventricular arrythmia by the drugs.

      • 함암요법으로 골수기능이 억제된 악성종양환자에서 rhG-CSF의 임상적 효과

        We have studied the efficacy of rhG-CSF in patients with non-hodgkin's lymphoma, acute leukemia, and small cell lung cancer undergoing anticancer chemotherapy. These patients were below leukocyte count 3,000 cubic millimeter due to myelosuppression induced by the first cycle of intensive chemotherapy. Treatment with rhG-CSF (100㎍ per square meter of body surface area per day in a 30-minute intravenous infusion) was begun two days and for 14 consecutive days after the end of the second cycle of chemotherapy. The results were as follows. 1. The onset of myelosuppression was 6 days after chemotherapy, and the onset of recovery was 16.7 days after chemotherapy, and the duration of granulocytopenia was 10.7 days in patients with malignant tumor during contrast period. 2. The duration of granulocytopenia was shortened 5.2 days in patients administered rhG-CSF than without rhG-CSF, and we observed the shortest duration of granulocytopenia with increasing granulocyte in patients with small cell lung cancer. 3. Observing the differential count of leukocyte checked the highest level of leukocyte in contrast and rhG-CSF period, the persentage of neutrophil was increased in patients with acute leukemia and small cell lung cancer during rhG-CSF period, but not increased in patients with non-hodgkin's lymphoma. 4. rhG-CSF was not influenced on liver faction, renal fuction, uric acid, and glucose metabolism, also had no effect on recovery of platelet. In conclusion, rhG-CSF can be administered to patients with hematologic or nonhematologic malignant tumor that myelosuppression induced by anticancer chemotherapy result in shortening the duration of granulocytopenia and increasing the peripheral neutrophil, therefore full dose chemotherapy can be administered on time, and rhG-CSF may reduce the morbidity and mortality of patients with malignant tumor undergoing chemotherapy.

        State Indicator of Water Quality for Surface Water and Groundwater in Agriculture

        Indicators of environmental conditions qualitatively and quantitatively describe the state of the environment and natural resources, and the OECD (Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development) has initiated and suggested AEIs (Agri-Environmental Indicators) to assess trends over time of the effects of agriculture on the environment and the effectiveness and efficiency of agricultural and environmental policy measures since 1990's. This study aims to develop the state indicators of water quality for agricultural water, surface and groundwater, to evaluate the environmental impacts of agricultural activities and policies by qualifying the environmental levels of a nation. Status indicators were calculated according to the agricultural water quality standards of OECD and Korea, and their trends were analyzed over time. Particularly, nitrate ($NO_3{^-}$) status indicators of ground water in 2013 were significantly lower than the ones in 2000. Overall, the water quality indicators of surface water in 2013 were higher than the ones in 2012, except for pH and DO. The groundwater quality indicators in 2013 were lower than those of previous years. The optimal management indicators were calculated to assess agricultural surface water and groundwater quality. The findings of this study indicated that the state indicators could play a significant role to establish policies and procedures for managing and conserving water resources. This study also discussed water pollution caused by agricultural and industrial effluents.

        Alteration in Claudin-4 Contributes to Airway Inflammation and Responsiveness in Asthma

        <P><B>Purpose</B></P><P>Claudin-4 has been reported to function as a paracellular sodium barrier and is one of the 3 major claudins expressed in lung alveolar epithelial cells. However, the possible role of claudin-4 in bronchial asthma has not yet been fully studied. In this study, we aimed to elucidate the role of claudin-4 in the pathogenesis of bronchial asthma.</P><P><B>Methods</B></P><P>We determined claudin-4 levels in blood from asthmatic patients. Moreover, using mice sensitized and challenged with OVA, as well as sensitized and challenged with saline, we investigated whether claudin-4 is involved in the pathogenesis of bronchial asthma. Der p1 induced the inflammatory cytokines in NHBE cells.</P><P><B>Results</B></P><P>We found that claudin-4 in blood from asthmatic patients was increased compared with that from healthy control subjects. Plasma claudin-4 levels were significantly higher in exacerbated patients than in control patients with bronchial asthma. The plasma claudin-4 level was correlated with eosinophils, total IgE, FEV1% pred, and FEV1/FVC. Moreover, lung tissues from the OVA-OVA mice showed significant increases in transcripts and proteins of claudin-4 as well as in TJ breaks and the densities of claudin-4 staining. When claudin-4 was knocked down by transfecting its siRNA, inflammatory cytokine expressions, which were induced by Der p1 treatment, were significantly increased.</P><P><B>Conclusions</B></P><P>These findings thus raise the possibility that regulation of lung epithelial barrier proteins may constitute a therapeutic approach for asthma.</P>
