        A total of 264 independently oriented core samples were collected from 26 sites in the southwestern part(the Naktong Trough) of the Cretaceous Kyongsang Basin in south Korea. The sampled formations comprise the sedimentary Shindong and the Hayang Groups of the Lower Cretaceous age. alternating field and thermal demagnetizations were conducted. Chrarcteristic remanent magnetization(ChRM) was relatively easily isolated in each formation except in the Chinju foramation, from which only remagnetization circles were observed. Even though an extensive use of the fold test was not possible due to the nearly homoclinal nature of the strata in the area, we believe that the ChRM of each formation is of primary origin based on the following grounds : The in-situ ChRM direction of each formation is different from the present geomagnetic field direction. Fisherian precision parameter becomes enhanced through the tilt correction in all formations, closely to the values, requird for a positive fold test. Three out of the five studied formations pass the reversal test. The mean palaeomgnetic pole position from the studied area is found to be statistically different from the contemporary pole from the Chinese block exclusive of the Shandong area. The difference in magnetic declination suggests a 14.5°(±10.5°) clockwise rotation from the studied area relative to the Chinese block comprising the west of the Tan-Lu fault. On the other hand, any significant difference in magnetic inclination and concurrent palaeolatitude is not obaseved between the studied area and China as well as the other area (Taegu-Andong area) in the Kyongsang Basin. The dual nature of the magnetic polarity confirmed in all formations suggests an older than 124Ma(Neocomian or older) age of the studied sedimentary strata.

        의료방사선은 인간의 질병진료와 예밤에 활용되어 각종 질병으로부터의 적절한 진단 및 의학발전에 중대한 역할을 담당하고 띤다. 또한 인공방사선원중 가장 큰 비중을 차지하고 있으며, 방사선원을 이웅한 이득과 손실을 생각쌀 때 피폭선량의 최소화 및 곡률적영향의 최소화를 위해 이득을 최대화하는 노력을 하고 있다. 진단뿐만 아니라 치료에도 사응하고 있는 인공방사선원의 적절한 관리를 위한 조사 및 연구는 국내에서는 아픽까진 실시되지 않았으며, 국외에서는 이미 활발한 조사 덴 연구가 이루어 지 고 있다. 일반적으로 의료기관의 핵의학분야에서 환자의 진단 및 치료에 사용되는 방사성의약품으로는 Tc-99in, Ga-67, 1-131, 71-201 등이 있으며 이를 이용한 방사능측정웅장비 및 치료뭉장비에는 Gamma Camera, 감마선재측기, 베타선계측기, Dose CaTibrator, PET(양전자방출전산화단층촬영장치)등이 있다. 이어 식푿의약품안전청f"서는 핵의학분야의 방사선보건학적 연구를 위해 핵의학분야의 진료와 관련된 인력, 시설, 장비, 방사성의약품의 사응, 핵의학적 진료형태 및 핵의학적 진료장치에 대한 성능관리등에 대해 조사·연구하였다. A nationwide survey was conducted in the Korea in 2001 to determine the facilities available and the level of activity at centres where radionuclide and therapy was practised in 2000. A response rate of 75% indicated that 120 centres were providing radionuclide therapy and diagnosis. About the good treatment of radionuclide using in medical, researched so many country, but not yet in. Generally nuclear medical part use Tc-99m, Ga-67, I-131, Tl-201 in diagnosis and therapy, radiation detector and equipment for therapy use Gamma Camera, beta-counter, Dose Calibrator PET(Positron Emission Tomography). 81% rate of centre has Gamma Camera and 97% rate of use Tc-99m, I-131 radionuclide. In-vitro did more than in-vivo test absolutely. So in KFDA researched in unclear medical part in Man-Power, facilities, equipment use of nuclear medicine, part of diagnosis and diagnosis equipment.

      • 뇌혈관질환을 동반한 당뇨병 환자에서 지속적 혈당측정의 유용성 평가

        연구배경: 뇌혈관질환을 동반한 고령의 당뇨병환자는 이들의 신경학적 결손으로 경고 증상없이 심한 저혈당에 노출될 가능성이 크다. 실제로 하루 4번 정도의 자가 혈당 측정으로는 이를 감지하기 어려울 뿐 아니라 검사에 따른 고통으로 적극적인 혈당 조절에 제한이 따르게 된다. 이에 저자들은 Mini Med사의 지속적 혈당측정기(CGMS, continuous glucose monitoring system)를 이용하여 뇌혈관질환을 동반한 당뇨병 환자에서 24시간 혈당의 변동양상을 알아보고 각기 다른 인슐린 치료방침에 따른 혈당조절의 효율성을 비교하고자 하였다. 방법: 2001년 1월부터 6월까지 경희대학교 부속병원에 입원해 있는 10명의 뇌혈관질환을 동반한 제 2형 당뇨병환자를 대상으로 하였다. 이 들은 모두 튜브식이를 받고 있엇고 최소 1개월 이상 인슐린 치료를 시행 받았다. 지속적 혈당측정기를 착용하고 3일간의 연속적인 혈당을 측정하였고, 치료 첫 날은 NPH, 둘째 날은 속효성 인슐린과 NPH, 마지막 날은 혼합형 인슐린제제로 치료하여 그 효과를 비교하였다. 이들 각기 다른 인슐린 제재의 하루 총량에 차이는 없었다. 혈당치가 3.3mmol/L 미만이거나 7.8mmol/L를 초과하는 경우 그 차이값의 총합을 시간으로 나누어 이 값(△Glu)이 적을수록 치료효과가 우수한 것으로 판정하였다. 또한 당 수치가 3.3mmol/L 미만인 경우를 저혈당 event, 16.7mmol/L 초과한 경우를 고혈당 event로 임의로 정의하였고, 이를 통해 지속적 혈당측정의 유용성을 간접적으로 평가하고자 하였다. 결과: 평균 △Glu값은 첫째 날이 0.93 ± 0.43mmol/Lㆍmin?¹, 둘째날이 0.71 ± 0.29mmol/Lㆍmin?¹ 마지막 날이 0.58 ± 0.29mmol/Lㆍmin?¹로서 서로 다른 3가지 치료방침사이에 통계학적으로 유의한 차이는 없었다(p=0.115). 10명의 환자들 중 자가 혈당측정기로는 1명에서 저혈당 event, 2명에서 고혈당 event를 인지하였으나 지속적 혈당측정기로는 각각 9명에서 event를 확인하였다. 결론: 지속적 혈당측정기를 이용한 각각의 인슐린 치료방침에 따른 혈당조절 효율성의 차이는 없었으나, 자가혈당 측정기로는 알 수 없었던 일 중 혈당 변동사항을 정확하게 알 수 있어, 뇌혈관질환을 동반한 당뇨병 환자에서 보다 적극적인 인슐린 치료 및 관리를 할 수 있을 것으로 생각된다. Background: Diabetic stroke patients are susceptible to hypoglycemia. However, there are many limitations in detecting hypoglycemic events, even though glucoses levels are checked 3 to 4 times per day using the fingerstick method. Therefore, we investigated the glycemic excursions and pattern in diabetic stroke patients using the continuous glucose monitoring system (CGMS, MiniMed) and its clinical utility. The other objective was to compare the treatment dfficacy between insulin regimens. Methods: From jan 2001 to jun 2001, 10 adult type 2 diabetic stroke patients wore CGMS for consecutive 3 days, which continuously checked the glucose level. NPH insulin, multiple daily injection of regular insulin ± NPH and the mixed type(Novolet 30/70, Novo Nordisk) were used on the first, second and third days of the study, respectively. If the mean delta glucose(△Glu = A+B/time, A=∑(hlucose-7.8), glucose > 7.8 mmol/l, B=∑(3.3-glucose) if, glucose < 3.3 mmol/l) was calculated in order to recognize the degree of individual glycemic changes and to compare the efficacy of each treatment diverse insulin regimen. We arbitrarily defined a glucose level less than 3.3mmol/l, as a hypoglycemic event, and more than 16.7mmol/l as a hyperglycemic event. Results: Variable patterns of glycemic changes were observed among patients with the same dosage, but a different insulin regimen. The mean △Glu was 0.93±0.43 on the first day, 0.71±0.29 on the second day and 0.58±0.29 on the third. There was no significant difference in treatment efficacy between the 3 different insulin modalities(p=0.115). Of the 10 patients, a hypoglycemic event was detected in 1 with the fingerstick method, in contrast to 9 with CGMS, with hyperglycemic events being detedted in 2 and 9, respectively. Conclusion: Continuous glucose monitoring maybe useful in providing the information necessary for optimal glycemic control in the diabetic stroke patients.

      • Regulation of Hepatic Gluconeogenesis by an ER-Bound Transcription Factor, CREBH

        <P><B>Summary</B></P><P>Endoplasmic reticulum (ER)-bound transcription factor families are shown to be involved in the control of various metabolic pathways. Here, we report a critical function of ER-bound transcription factor, CREBH, in the regulation of hepatic gluconeogenesis. Expression of CREBH is markedly induced by fasting or in the insulin-resistant state in rodents in a dexamethasone- and PGC-1α-dependent manner, which results in the accumulation of active nuclear form of CREBH (CREBH-N). Overexpression of constitutively active CREBH activates transcription of <I>PEPCK-C</I> or <I>G6Pase</I> by binding to its enhancer site that is distinct from the well-characterized CREB/CRTC2 regulatory sequences in vivo. Of interest, knockdown of CREBH in liver significantly reduces blood glucose levels without altering expression of genes involved in the ER stress signaling cascades in mice. These data suggest a crucial role for CREBH in the regulation of hepatic glucose metabolism in mammals.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P><P>► PGC-1α/GR activates CREBH expression under fasting or insulin-resistant conditions ► CREBH enhances hepatic gluconeogenesis via a CRTC2-dependent manner ► Depletion of CREBH in the liver ameliorates fasting hyperglycemia in diabetic mice</P>

        In vary high temperature conditions a metal material thickness measurement is of importance in the phenomena associated with the nuclear accident, in connection with the demonstration experiments of In-vessel phenomenon. In this case a hemispherical thickness measuring apparatus and method using a magnatostrictive ultrasonic wave that can be suggested to measure for this thickness change in real time as the ultrasonic wave apparatus is secured.

      • 나일틸라피아 치어에 미치는 염화나트륨, 포르말린 및 과망간산칼륨의 급성독성

        염화나트륨(Nacl), 포르말린 및 과망간산칼륨(KMnO_4)에 대한 나일틸라피아, Oreochromis niloticus의 24시간 급성 독성을 조사하였다. 1. NaCl의 24시간 LC_50값은 18.6‰이었고 95% 신뢰한계의 상한치는 18.7‰, 하한치는 18.5‰이었다. 포르말린의 24시간 LC_50값은 152ppm이었고, 상한치는 156ppm, 하한치는 148ppm이었다. KMnO_4의 24시간 LC_50값은 2.09ppm이었고 상한치는 2.11ppm, 하한치는 2.07ppm이었다. 2. 모든 처리 화합물은 본 종에 대해 좁은 농도 범위 내에서 급성 독성 효과를 나타내었으며, 아울러 뚜렷한 농도 의존성을 보였다. 이상의 결과를 본 연구에서 사용된 3가지 화합물의 틸라피아 양식에서의 유용성과 연관시켜 논의하였다. A study on the acute toxicity in the Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus fry showed that the 24hr-LC_50 was 18.6‰ for NaCl, 152 ppm for formaline and 2.1 ppm for KMnO_4. The fry responded to narrow range of concentration of all the tested chemicals and their toxic effects were dose-dependent.

        Lutembacher's syndrome is rare combination of mitral stenosis (MS) and atrial septal defect (ASD). The hemodynamic interplay between the MS and ASD leads to wide variation of clinical presentation. Here we describe a 43-year-old female with Lutembacher's syndrome and tricuspid regurgitation with pulmonary hypertension, who underwent direct closure of ASD and tricuspid valvuloplasty successfully. We also reviewed other literatures in an effort to increase awareness of this condition.

        In Vivo Targeted Delivery of Nanoparticles for Theranosis

        <P>Therapy and diagnosis are two major categories in the clinical treatment of disease. Recently, the word “theranosis” has been created, combining the words to describe the implementation of these two distinct pursuits simultaneously. For successful theranosis, the efficient delivery of imaging agents and drugs is critical to provide sufficient imaging signal or drug concentration in the targeted disease site. To achieve this purpose, biomedical researchers have developed various nanoparticles composed of organic or inorganic materials. However, the targeted delivery of these nanoparticles in animal models and patients remains a difficult hurdle for many researchers, even if they show useful properties in cell culture condition.</P><P>In this Account, we review our strategies for developing theranostic nanoparticles to accomplish in vivo targeted delivery of imaging agents and drugs. By applying these rational strategies, we achieved fine multimodal imaging and successful therapy. Our first strategy involves physicochemical optimization of nanoparticles for long circulation and an enhanced permeation and retention (EPR) effect. We accomplished this result by testing various materials in mouse models and optimizing the physical properties of the materials with imaging techniques. Through these experiments, we developed a glycol chitosan nanoparticle (CNP), which is suitable for angiogenic diseases, such as cancers, even without an additional targeting moiety. The in vivo mechanism of this particle was examined through rationally designed experiments. In addition, we evaluated and compared the biodistribution and target-site accumulation of bare and drug-loaded nanoparticles.</P><P>We then focus on the targeting moieties that bind to cell surface receptors. Small peptides were selected as targeting moieties because of their stability, low cost, size, and activity per unit mass. Through phage display screening, the interleukin-4 receptor binding peptide was discovered, and we combined it with our nanoparticles. This product accumulated efficiently in atherosclerotic regions or tumors during both imaging and therapy. We also developed hyaluronic acid nanoparticles that can bind efficiently to the CD44 antigen receptors abundant in many tumor cells. Their delivery mechanism is based on both physicochemical optimization for the EPR effect and receptor-mediated endocytosis by their hyaluronic acid backbone.</P><P>Finally, we introduce the stimuli-responsive system related to the chemical and biological changes in the target disease site. Considering the relatively low pH in tumors and ischemic sites, we applied pH-sensitive micelle to optical imaging, magnetic resonance imaging, anticancer drug delivery, and photodynamic therapy. In addition, we successfully evaluated the in vivo imaging of enzyme activity at the target site with an enzyme-specific peptide sequence and CNPs.</P><P>On the basis of these strategies, we were able to develop self-assembled nanoparticles for in vivo targeted delivery, and successful results were obtained with them in animal models for both imaging and therapy. We anticipate that these rational strategies, as well as our nanoparticles, will be applied in both the diagnosis and therapy of many human diseases.         Identification of molecular mechanism controlling P34 gene expression in soybean

        P34 has long been known as one of major allergenic proteins in soybean. Recently, two low-P34 soybean accessions, PI603570A and PI567476, were identified. In order to understand the molecular mechanism of a significant reduction of P34 protein level in PI567476, we performed comparative analysis of the P34 cDNAs and genomic sequences from low-P34 and normal soybean accessions. While no sequence variation was detected in P34 coding regions of the soybean accessions tested, the P34 gene from PI567476 contains 'ATGT' 4-bp insertion in front of the start codon. We also found the length polymorphism of 'TA' repeats in the P34 promoter regions among accessions. Northern and western blot analysis revealed that, even though mRNA levels of P34 are similar in low-P34 and normal soybean accessions, lower accumulation of P34 protein is only detected in the low-P34 accession, suggesting that the genetic polymorphisms in P34 promoters have a more significant effect on translation efficiency than transcription of the P34 gene. Transient expression analysis showed that the P34 promoter of PI567476 has significantly reduced activity compared to that of normal accession, cv. Clark. In addition, the chimeric promoter generated by introducing the 4-bp insertion in front of the start codon of the P34 gene from normal Clark accession showed markedly reduced activity. The results suggest that lower accumulation of P34 protein in low-P34 accession is largely due to the reduced translation efficiency caused by the 4-bp insertion in the P34 promoter, thus providing direct evidence for the molecular mechanism to explain the regulation of P34 gene expression in various soybean accessions.
