Anti-osteoporotic Effects of Sericin-Calcium Conjugate in Ovariectomized Rats

This study was conducted in order to evaluate the effect of sericin-calcium (SC) as therapy for ovariectomy-induced osteoporosis in rats. Three weeks after ovariectomy (OVX), Sprague-Dawley rats were divided randomly into three groups: sham-operated group (Sham), ovariectomized group, and SC-treatment group (OVX+SC). Rats in the OVX+SC group were given drinking water containing 0.07% SC for eight weeks. Bone breaking force, mineralization, and blood parameters related to bone metabolism were analyzed. In OVX animals, blood concentration of 17β-estradiol showed a significant decrease, while osteocalcin and type I collagen C-terminal telopeptides (CTx) showed an increase. Breaking force of femurs as well as bone mineral density (BMD), ash, calcium, and phosphorus in femurs showed a significant decrease following OVX. Treatment with SC (0.07% in drinking water) resulted not only in remarkable restoration of the decreased 17β-estradiol and increased osteocalcin and CTx concentrations, but also led to recovery of decreased femoral breaking force, BMD, ash, calcium, and phosphorus. It is suggested that SC effectively improves bone density by preventing bone turnover-mediated osteocalcin, CTx, and minerals, and that it could be a potential candidate for use in therapy or prevention of post-menopausal osteoporosis.
CdS:In 單結晶의 基本特性과 photosensor로의 應用

The opto-electrical properties of the CdS : In single crystals were studied by these means of the scanning electron microscope, X-ray diffraction, optical transmission & photoconductivity, resitivity variation v.s. impurites, and resitivity v.s. photon flux change. By X-ray diffraction measurement, the structure was found to be hexagonal and the lattice constant was calculated to be a_o=4.13Å and c_o=6.75Å The band gap was estimated to be about 2,419eV (300K). By the transmission measure ments a donor impurity level of In or Al was 0.024eV below the conduction level edge. For the application on the photosensor, the resistivity(ρ) variation of the CdS : In was measured with respect to photon flux(P_o) change and to wavelength, the resistivity was found to be ρ=8.75×10^6P_o^-125 (Ω―㎝/Lux) and the photoconductivity showed its highest response peak between 5,000Å and 5,400Å ranges.

In this paper, the population projection is estimated by the method of extrapolation which is based on logistic curve. It is required that each time interval of input data is one year. But census is not usually done punctually. So we try to use the raw census data and corrected them by appropriate transformation. For the population projection, we use four kinds of data : Model Ⅰ annual report from 1955 to 1985, Model Ⅱ linear correction of inter census population from 1955 to 1985, Model Ⅲ Compound interest correction on inter census population from 1955 to 1985, Model Ⅳ five years moving average correction of all inter census population. Estimation by model Ⅰ is not good because of large error caused from wrong estimation of population between census. We get a low projection model Model Ⅱ P=5,314/(1+1.4904 EXP (-0.050756t)) × 10 exp((4) from the second try, a high projection model Model Ⅲ P=5,429/(1+1.5438 EXP (-0.04973t)) × 10 exp(4) from the third try and a medium projection model Model Ⅳ P=5,379/(1+1.5190 EXP (-0.050392t)) × 10 exp((4) from the fourth try. We can guess at a saturation population and at a demographic transition point by virtue of an estimation of this logistic curve. The saturation population of Korea is estimated as 5,314×10 exp (4) by model Ⅱ in this paper. We have found the fact that the domographic transition point of Korea has been rapidly advancing since 1963.
30% Minocycline 국소 약물송달제제의 생체내, 외방출역학, 세포독성 및 세포활성도 측정

Present study was performed to examine in vitro and in vivo release kinetics, cell cytotoxicity and cellular growth survival of local 30% Minocycline delivery. The purpose of this study was to determine the possibility of clinical use of 30% Minocycline load polycaprolactone film(Mino-Strip). The size of Mino-strip is 6.5㎜×2.5㎜×0.3㎜, Mwt: 5.7㎎). In vitro releasing test, each film showed a large initial burst effect within first one and two hours and more than 84% of Minocycline was releasing test, each film showed a large burst effect within first two and three hours. A steady state kinetics was observed for 8 days both in vivo and in vitro releasing test. In cytotoxicity test, there was no significant cytotoxic effect in Mino-strip to human gingival fibroblast. In cellular growth survival test, there was no significant cellular growth survival effect in Mino-strip to human gingival fibroblast.
p-형 Si(100) 기판 위에 성장시킨 Bi_(3.25)La_(0.75)Ti₃O_(12) (BLT) 박막의 전기적 특성

Bi₃zsLa(0.75)Ti₃0_(12) (BLT) thin film have been grown on p-type Si(l00) substrates by a sol-gel spin coating process. The structure and surface morphology of the film were analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEMI. Furthermore, the electrical properties were examined by capacitance-voltage ( C-V) characteristics by using a LF Impedance Analyzer(HP 4192A). XRD measurement show layered perovskite structure with a single phase in BLT thin film annealed at 700C for 30 min in oxygen. The measured grain size of BLT on Si is about 0.04 - 0.1 pn. From the cross-sectional SEM image, BLT film thickness is measured to be 0.4 pm. The C-V characteristic hysteresis curves show that the NIFS (metal-fexroelectric-semiconductor) structure has memory effect. The memory window decreases, with increasing frequency at MFS structure. And it is found that the memory window increases as the applied voltage to the ferroelectric capacitor is increased. These phenomena may be due to polarization reversals of the BLT ferroelectric film and because of the charge injection from Si substrate into the ferroelectric thin film. The results obtained indicate that the present BLT films are suitable for making ferroelectric field effect transistor(FeFET) memory.
제1요수 불완전 하반신 마비 환자에서의 기능적 전기자극에 의한 훈련 증례보고

Functional electrical stimulation(FES) is known to increase muscle bulk and strength and prevent muscle atrophy in complete paraplegic patients. And other benefits include peripheral adaptations which improve muscle endurance, girth, and appearance, as well as central circulatory adaptation which enhances aerobic(cardiopulmonary) capacity. Good candidates for FES include spinal cord injured patients who have clinically complete upper motor neuron lesion between T4-T12. But we experienced incomplete L1 paraplegic patient who has improved maximal knee extension power, endurance, circumference and cross-sectional area of the thigh and the shank after FES-induced exercise for 44 weeks. So we recommend more trial of the FES-induced exercise to not only complete but also incomplete lumbar paraplegic patients.
