Chungnam National University (CNU) is located in Daeduk Science Town, a center of science and technology in Korea, and it is expected to play an important role in the development of science in Korea. With this in mind, the basic natural sciences at CNU should be more actively supported in both education and research. Accordingly analysis and comparison of the basic science program at major college in Korea as well as those in the USA and Europe has been performed. The current cooperative relationship between CNU and research institutes in the science town has also been analyzed. This study has resulted in propositions to make more efficient the upbringing of the basic sciences at CNU, by focusing on the following points ; a) to improve academic affairs, b) to make graduate studies substantial, c) to secure highly qualified faculty members, d) to increase cooperation in research between CNU and reserch institutes, e) to enlarge research laboratories and acquire more equipment and facilities.

ON THE TOTAL CURVATURE OF IMMERSIONS

유크릴 공간밖에서 모조된 추상적 n-다양체가 한 미분가능 사상에 의하여 n-N 차원 유크릴 공간 E^(n+N), N≥1,에 잠겨(immerse)들었을 때 가짐에서 생각할 수 있는 법선 벡타를 이용하여 기하학적으로 얻어진 곡률함수는 대역적(global)으로 그 곡면의 위상적 성질과 밀접한 관계가 있다. 2차 곡면에서 Gauss-Bonnet의 공식은 그 한 예일 것이다. S. S. Chern와 R. K. Lashof는 〔4〕에서 2차 곡면 위의 Gauss 곡률과 전곡률을 compact n-다양체 위에로 일반화한 Lipschitz-killing 곡률과 전곡률을 n+N 차원 유크릳 공간에 잠입하는 사상 f에 대하여 정의하였다. 그 후 N. H. Kuiper는 이들 M의 critical level과 관련시켜 발전시켰으며, 전곡률의 최소값의 존재를 이용하여 잠입사상 f의 성질 특히 최소잠입(minimal immersion)의 성질을 언급하고 있다. Kuiper의 〔12〕는 이 방면의 연구에 좋은 자료 인 것으로 사료 된다. 본 논문은 Lipschitz-Killing 곡률의 몇가지 성질을 증명하였고 (1,2),f 의 특이성(singularity)를 이용하여 전곡률의 정의를 해석하였다(3,4). 끝으로 현재 연구의 관심사의 하나인 최소잠입 f를 취급하는데 있어서 compact n-다양체 M에 관하여 전곡률 τ(M, f)의 최소값이 존재한다는 것은 중요한 이론적 근거가 되는 것이기 때문에 〔5〕와 〔7〕에서 언급한 이 증명을 본고에서는 기초적인 해석적 방법으로 상세한 증명을 보였다.

Studies on Species Diversity of the Vegetation in Larch Forest

光陵 봉선寺 附近의 20-30年生의 2개 落葉松 群落을 對象으로 그들의 林末植被의 組成을 調査하여 種多樣度를 計算하고 分析하여 두 落葉松 群落 의 種內 및 種間의 競爭과 種의 構成과의 關聯을 追求하였다. 두 落葉松 群落의 비교에서는 土壤의 有機物과 用水能이 높은 群落에서 種多樣度, 種間競爭이 增加하는 反面에 種內 競爭이 減小하였다. 같은 群落內에서의 草木層과 灌木層에서 草木層이 種多樣度, 種內 競爭이 增加하고 種內 競爭이 減小하였다.

球的 대칭성이 있는 차폐물에 대한 감마선의 다중산탄 효과 및 그 차폐물 자체가 방사성 물질인 경우에 대한 자중산탄효과를 정확한 수학적 표현식으로 만들고 이로부터 그 근사식 및 경험식을 유추하였다. 또한 두 개의 서로 다른 물질로 된 차폐물을 방사성源에 대해 그 배열순서를 달리함에 따라 그 build-up factor 가 서로 달라짐을 정성적으로 설명하고 감사선의 focus 및 filter에 관해서도 언급하였다.

Even though the movement of human body contruct the primary factor of Dancing Art, spectators appreciate more meaningful expression of the beauty through the stage that stand above limited space and time. Lighting is a distinctive expressive mechanism of obvious line, form and rhythem of human body by making a light and shade through artificial beams into the stage. As Dancing Art is different from drama, lighting of dancing stage should be distinguished from that of drama stage.

Azomethine 結合의 伸縮振動에 미치는 置換基의 影響 (第一報) : N-(p-nitrophenyl)-benzohydrazonyl azid

The cerrelation of the azomethine (C=N) and the imid (N-H) stretching frequencies with substituents of C-phenyl ring in N-(p-nitropheny1)-benzohydrazonyl azid (NBHA), derivatives have been studied by an infra-red spectrophotometer. The hammett type equation (v = v_(o) + pa(or A^(+)) was applied for this correlation and the equation were obtained as following; _(ν)N-H=-25.0a(oγ△νN-H. =-l0.0a^(+)) +3324 _(ν)C=N. = -8.3a(oγ△νC=N. = -6.6a^(+)) + 1592 From the equation, it is possible to calculate the C=N and N-H stretching frequency for ortho, para and meta-substituents of C-phenyl ring in NBHA derivatives. Electron-resonancedonating for para substituents, a^(+) constants gave a better correlation with C=N rather than N-H stretching frequency shift.

아산만의 플랭크톤성 갑각류 군집을 대상으로 종의 조성을 조사하여 종다양성을 계산, 분석하고 군집의 종내 및 종간 경쟁과 종구성과의 관련성을 추구하였다. 아산만 플랭크톤성 갑각류 군집의 출현종수는 30종이었으며, 이 군집에서는 종다양도, 종간경쟁이 증가하는 반면에 종내 경쟁은 감소하고 안정도는 낮았다.

Rhenium 金屬의 자원調査 : 國産 휘수연鑛을 對象으로

Little has been known of the occurrence of rhenium element in geological materials being produced in Korea. In a series of survey work for the natural resources of the rhenium metal, the contents in moiybdenite ores collected from fifteen mints throughout the country have been determined by spectrophotometry using dimethylglyoxime-SnC1_(2), system. The result ranges from none to 120 ppm Re as 100% MoS_(2) base. Some technical features of the element are also briefly reviewed.

Dielectric Constant of Liquids Ⅱ

Kirkwood-Fro¨hlich 방정식을 유도하는데 일반적으로 사용되는 reaction field 방법은 열역학 극한을 취할 때 특별히 주의하지 않으면 중대한 모순을 초래하게 된다. 이러한 문제점이 종전의 논문에서 저자들 중의 한사람(이구철)에 의하여 지적 되었으며 유전상수에 대한 새로운 방정식이 제안된 바 있다. 본 논문에서는 더욱 일반적인 경계조건 아래에서 유전상수에 대한 표현식을 구함으로써 이를 더욱 명백하게 하였다. 유전상수 e'인 中空球形의 연속체로 둘러싸인 N개의 이상적 전기쌍극자로 구성된 계를 생각하고 e' 및 a와 b (각각 中空球의 내경과 외경)에 대한 여러가지의 극한을 취함으로써 어떤 극한에서 이러한 두 개의 상반되는 방정식이 유도되는 가를 연구 하였다. 또한 非電氣的 相互作用이 方向性을 갖지않는 球形分子로 된 계의 경우에 相關因子를 직접 계산함으로서 새로운 방정식이 타당함을 보였다.
