      • Systematic Review on Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) DNA in Diagnosis of Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma in Asian Populations

        Objective: To conduct a meta-analysis to investigate the value of EBV DNA in diagnosis of nasopharyngeal cancer (NPC) in Asian populations, and provide important evidence for screening. Methods: Prospective or respective case-control or cohort studies regarding the detection role of EBV DNA for NPC were included in our study. We conducted a comprehensive literature search in PubMed, EMBASE, and the Chinese Biomedical Database (CBM database between January 1980 and March 2012. Results: A total of 18 studies with 1492 NPC cases and 2641 health controls were included. Almost of the included studies were conducted in China, and only one other conducted in Thailand. The overall results demonstrated that the pooled sensitivity, specificity, positive likelihood (+LR) and negative likelihood (-LR) were 0.73 (0.71-0.75), 0.89 (0.88-0.90), 8.84 (5.65-13.84) and 0.19(0.11-0.32), respectively. The overall EBV DNA detection showed the largest area of 0.932 under the summary receiver operator curve (SROC). The accuracy of detection by plasma for NPC (0.86) was higher than in serum (0.81), with largest areas under the SROC of 0.97 and 0.91, respectively. Conclusion: Our results demonstrated the EBV DNA detection in plasma or serum has high sensitivity and specificity in diagnosis of NPC, especially in Chinese populations with a high risk of cancer.

      • 台灣早期療育機構中社會工作者面臨困境之探討

        本研究旨在探討社會工作者在早期療育機構中面臨的困境。本研究以文獻分析法搜尋及統整台灣兩大論文資料庫,以了解社會工作者在機構中的角色,進而分析社會工作者現今所面臨之困境,透過文獻分析,研究者歸納以下結果:1. 專業知識與能力不足:社會工作者在參與專業團隊方面,對特殊教育與醫療復健相關領域具有基本的理解,但社會工作學系的課程及專業知能的訓練上都很缺乏。2.跨專業合作與溝通的經驗缺乏:受限於政府補助經費,不是所有特殊需求家庭都能完成IFSP,因社會工作者在機構中,不見得有專業合作溝通的機會。3.專業價值觀的差異:特殊教育通常以教育、治療為觀點;但社會工作的專業訓練中,強調「社會模式」的思維,除了治療及教育,社會接納概念也是專業使命,又因許多機構只有編制一名社會工作者的情況下,在面臨價值觀的兩難時,也沒有夥伴可以相互討論思考。本文亦提供早期療育機構社會工作者未來因應困境應有之心態與作法。 This study aims to explore the dilemma faced by social workers in early interventional institutions, and use literature analysis to search and integrate the two major paper databases in Taiwan to understand the role of social workers and then to analyze the problems of social workers in institutions. In the face of difficulties by the social workers, the following results were obtained by our research: 1. Insufficient professional knowledge and ability: Social workers have a basic understanding of special education and medical rehabilitation in their participation in professional teams, but there is a lack of training in the curriculum and professional knowledge of the Department of Social Work. 2. Lack of experience in inter-professional cooperation and communication: Limited by government subsidies, not all families with special needs can complete IFSP, because social workers do not have the opportunity to cooperate in professional cooperation. 3. Differences in professional values: Special education usually takes education and treatment as the point of view; but in the professional training of social work, the emphasis on social model thinking, in addition to treatment and education, the concept of social acceptance is also a professional mission, and because many institutions only In the case of a social worker, no partners can discuss each other in the face of the dilemma of values. In addition, from the discussion of this paper, it also provides the mentality and practice that social workers should have in the future.

        <P>Facile synthesis of TiO<SUB>2</SUB> nanotube branched (length ∼0.5 μm) thin hollow-nanofibers is reported.         Risk Factors Predicting Upper Urinary Tract Damage in Patients With Myelodysplasia: Data Analysis of 637 Cases From A Single Center

        Purpose: To determine the risk factors predicting upper urinary tract (UUT) damage using a grading system for upper urinary tract dilation (UUTD) and a descriptive system for all urinary tract dysfunction (AUTD) in patients with myelodysplasia. Methods: Six hundred thirty-seven patients with myelodysplasia were evaluated at our center from January 2008 to November 2019. Clinical data, ultrasonography, magnetic resonance urography, and video-urodynamics (VUDS) parameters were collected. Univariate and multivariate analyses were used to determine the risk factors predicting UUT damage. Results: Three hundred eighty-three males and 254 females were included. The average course of lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) was 14.08±7.07 years (range, 3–31 years). The urodynamic diagnoses of all patients were as follows: detrusor overactivity, 26.8%; detrusor underactivity, 6.44%; and acontractile detrusor, 66.72%. UUT damage was determined in 66.56% of the patients. Of the patients, 28.73 % had vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) during filling (bilateral, n=50; unilateral, n=133) on fluoroscopy during VUDS testing. Two hundred thirty-four patients had UUTD (bilateral, n=203; unilateral, n=31). The occurrence of hydronephrosis based on ultrasonography was closely related to ipsilateral VUR (P<0.05). Absent of bladder sensation, long-term course of LUTS, decreased maximum cystometric capacity (MCC) and bladder compliance (BC), and increased postvoid residual urine (PVR) were shown to be independent risk factors in logistic regression analysis. Conclusions: This retrospective study using UUTD and AUTD systems indicated that patients with myelodysplasia have a high incidence of UUT damage. Absence of bladder sensation, long-term course of LUTS, decreased MCC and BC, and increased PVR were independent risk factors predicting UUT damage.

        Morphing technology for generating intermediate roughing models in multi-axis machining for complex parts

        In multi-axis milling of the aviation complex parts, establishing accurate machining process model is a key technology to realize intelligent processing. In order to obtain accurate machining process model of the aviation complex parts, a method based on morphing technology to construct intermediate process models of multi-axis roughing is proposed. Firstly, the theoretical basis for morphing technology is introduced, and the mathematical model of three hermite transfinite interpolation for morphing technology is established. Then the process constraint which impacts the geometry of the intermediate process model is analyzed in morphing technology. According to the analysis of the process constraint to design the process parameters, and the process parameters with constraints are introduced to the morphing technology to construct the process models. Finally, a validation is conducted on a complex aviation parts. The example shows that the method can able to construct the intermediate process models of complex structure parts for multi-axis rough machining under the condition of controlling the machining allowance, and also can shorten the total processing time of the complex parts, to a certain extent, the processing efficiency is improved.

        Quantitative Indirect ELISA for Determination of Walnut Proteins in Foods

        An indirect enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) capable of detecting walnut proteins in commercial products was developed. Polyclonal antibodies against soluble walnut protein were used. Specific epitopes of walnut protein were analyzed for cross activity with peanut, soybean, sesame, rice, wheat, jujube, and defatted milk protein. Epitopes of walnut proteins had no cross activity. The indirect ELISA was highly specific for soluble walnut proteins. Recovery values from walnut protein solutions ranged from 88.47 to 115%, and low coefficients of variation (<10%) indicated good repeatability. Intra and inter-assay precisions were <6 and <7 %, respectively. The limit of detection was 10 ng/mL of soluble walnut protein. The method was applied to detect some commercial food products in China and the results showed that indirect ELISA could be promisingly used to quantify adulteration of walnut processed foods.

        Microwave Sounder Cloud Detection Using a Collocated High-Resolution Imager and Its Impact on Radiance Assimilation in Tropical Cyclone Forecasts

        <P>Accurate cloud detection is one of the most important factors in satellite data assimilation due to the uncertainties associated with cloud properties and their impacts on satellite-simulated radiances. To enhance the accuracy of cloud detection and improve radiance assimilation for tropical cyclone (TC) forecasts, measurements from the Advanced Microwave Sounding Unit-A (AMSU-A) on board the Aqua satellite and the Advanced Technology Microwave Sounder (ATMS) are collocated with high spatial resolution cloud products from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on board Aqua and the Visible Infrared Imager Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) on board the Suomi-National Polar-Orbiting Partnership (Suomi-NPP) satellite. The cloud-screened microwave radiance measurements are assimilated for Hurricane Sandy (2012) and Typhoon Haiyan (2013) forecasts using the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) Model and the three-dimensional variational (3DVAR)-based Gridpoint Statistical Interpolation (GSI) data assimilation system. Experiments are carried out to determine the optimal thresholds of cloud fraction (CF) for minimizing track and intensity forecast errors. The results indicate that the use of high spatial resolution cloud products can improve the accuracy of TC forecasts by better eliminating cloud-contaminated microwave sounder field-of-views (FOVs). In conclusion, the combination of advanced microwave sounders and collocated high spatial resolution imagers is able to improve the radiance assimilation and TC forecasts. The methodology used in this study can be applied to process data from other pairs of microwave sounders and imagers on board the same platform.</P>

        Ankyrin Repeat-Rich Membrane Spanning/Kidins220 Protein Interacts with Mammalian Septin 5

        Neurotrophin receptors utilize specific adaptor proteins to activate signaling pathways involved in various neuronal functions, such as neurite outgrowth and cytoskeletal re-modeling. The Ankyrin-Repeat Rich Membrane Spanning (ARMS)/kinase D-interacting substrate-220 kDa (Kidins220) serves as a unique downstream adaptor protein of Trk receptor tyrosine kinases. To gain insight into the role of ARMS/Kidins220, a yeast two-hybrid screen of a rat dorsal root ganglion library was performed using the C-terminal region of ARMS/Kidins220 as bait. The screen identified a mammalian septin, Septin 5 (Sept5), as an interacting pro-tein. Co-immunoprecipitation using lysates from tran-siently transfected HEK-293 cells revealed the specific interaction between ARMS/Kidins220 and Sept5. Endoge-nous ARMS/Kidins220 and Sept5 proteins were co-localized in primary hippocampal neurons and were also predominantly expressed at the plasma membrane and in the tips of growing neurites in nerve growth factor-treated PC12 cells. Mapping of Sept5 domains important for ARMS/Kidins220 binding revealed a highly conserved N-terminal region of Sept5. The direct interaction between ARMS/Kidins220 and Sept5 suggests a possible role of ARMS/Kidins220 as a functional link between neurotrophin receptors and septins to mediate neurotrophin-induced intracellular signaling events, such as neurite outgrowth and cytoskeletal remodeling.

        Preparation and Thermal Performance of Fullerene-Based Lead Salt

        C60 is widely investigated because of its unique structure. But its applications in solid propellant seem to be relatively neglected. C60 has more outstanding features than carbon black which is widely used as a catalyst ingredient of solid propellant. To combine the advantages of fullerene and lead salts, another good composite in propellant catalysts, we synthesized a kind of fullerene phenylalanine lead salt (FPL) and explored its thermal performances by differential thermal analysis (DTA) and thermogravimetry analysis (TGA). The results show it undergoes four exothermic processes started from 408 K. Combined TGA and X-ray diffractometer (XRD), the decomposition mechanism of FPL was derived by TG-IR and comparing IR spectra of FPL and its residues after burned to 327 °C, 376 °C and 424 °C, respectively. Effect of FPL on the decomposition characteristic of hexogen (RDX), a type of explosive in propellant, has been investigated using DTA at different heating rate, which shows the decomposition temperatures of the explosive are all reduced by more than 20 K. The corresponding activation energy (Ea) is decreased by 30 kJ·mol−1. So FPL has potential application as a combustion catalyst in solid propellant.
