We have encountered a rare case of symmetrical peripheral gangrene complicating Escherichia coli sepsis in a 47-years-old male. He was successfully treated with antibiotics, anticoagulants, and vasodilator. To our knowledge, this is the first report on symmetrical peripheral gangrene complicating E. coli sepsis in Korea.

In this paper, the new vector control scheme of BLDCM producing loss-minimized ripple-free torque based on the d-q-0 reference frame is presented including 3 phase unbalanced condition The optimized phase current wave-forms that are obtained by the proposed method can be a reference values and the motor winding currents are forced to track it by delta modulation technique. As a results, it can be shown that the proposed work provides a simple and clear way to obtain an optimal motor excitation current.

Objective: Late-onset rheumatoid arthritis (LORA) refereed as the subset of rheumatoid arthritis with age of onset over 60 years old, seems to differ from younger onset disease (YORA) by more equal sex distribution, a higher frequency of abrupt disease onset, more large joints involvement, more extraarticular manifestation, erythrocyte sedimentation test (ESR), and less rheumatoid factor (RF) positivity. We need data of LORA in Korea because of lack of data. Methods: Two hundred and forty-two patients were studied retrospectively. We compared the difference with clinical manifestation, disease activity markers, RF, ANA, and radiologic changes between LORA and YORA. Sums of ESR and C-reactive protein (CRP) during first year after diagnosis were calculated through area under curve. Radiologic joint damages were evaluated using modified Sharp score. Results: The gender ratio (female/male) was 1.54 in LORA and 6.43 in YORA (p<0.001). The duration of the diagnosis was longer in LORA than in YORA (25.2±27.0months, 18.5±22.2 months, p=0.048). Tender and swollen joint, and involvement of joints were not different in the groups. ESR, CRP, platelet, and RF were higher with LORA. Sums of ESR and CRP were higher in LORA than in YORA (403.7±252.2 mm/hr, 25.6±41.1 mg/dL vs 281.4±201.3, 12.0±15.0). There was no difference of modified Sharp score in both groups. Conclusion: The LORA has an equal gender ratio, longer morning stiffness and disease duration, and higher levels of RF, platelet, ESR, CRP, and summation of ESR and CRP, which suggests that LORA may have poorer prognosis than YORA.
류마티스관절염에서 치료 시기가 질병 활성도 및 관절 손상에 미치는 영향

Objective: We investigated the effect of the early diagnosis and treatment on the disease activity and joint damage in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Methods: We enrolled 242 RA patients (male 50 patients, female 192 patients, mean age 49.7±13.5 years old) in this study. They were divided into two groups according to lag-time to diagnose RA from the onset of symptoms. 136 RA patients whose lag-time did not exceed 12 months were classified into early diagnosed RA group and 106 RA patients whose lag-time over 12 months were classified into delayed diagnosed RA group. Baseline date were assessed at the time of diagnosis. Disease activity was assessed by sums of erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) and C-reactive protein (CRP) during first year after diagnosis. Radiological joint damages were evaluated using modified Sharp score. Results: At the time of diagnosis, the age of patients, ESR and platelet counts were significantly decreased, and hemoglobin level was significantly increased in early diagnosed RA group. Early diagnosed RA group showed lower sums of ESR and CRP than delayed diagnosed RA group significantly. Modified sharp score at the time of diagnosis and after treatment were significantly lower in early diagnosed RA group than delayed diagnosed RA group. The difference of modified sharp score between at the time of diagnosis and after treatment were lower in early diagnosed RA group than delayed diagnosed RA group too. Conclusion: The early diagnosis and treatment of RA reduced extent of joint damage and provoked better response to treatment significantly.
Near-room-temperature phase-change fluorescent molecular rotor and its hybrids

<P>A unique molecular rotor consisting of a tetraphenylethylene derivative with a paraffin wax-like long alkyl chain (TPE18) is synthesized and compared to other derivatives containing shorter alkyl chains. In differential scanning calorimetry, TPE18 shows an endothermic peak (enthalpy of fusion, Delta H-fus = 55.3 J g(-1)) at 45 degrees C during the heating process and an exothermic peak at 38.6 degrees C during the cooling process. TPE18 exhibits critical changes in the fluorescence intensity and color during the crystal-melt phase change. TPE18 can be dissolved by an octadecane melt and then absorbed by filter paper. When the waxed paper is exposed to the heat sources of an IR laser or a finger, high-resolution fluorescence images of the characters and fingerprints appear on the paper. TPE18 also serves as a host matrix in a melt state that was easily mixed with the guest fluorophores of Alq3 and rubrene. Homogeneous hybrid solids with defined features are obtained without any significant segregation after cooling to room temperature. Fluorescence images with various colors are drawn onto the surfaces of glass slides or papers using the hybrids as crayons. (C) 2018 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.</P>

<P>Most sulfonic acid based-membranes come to the limit because of high cost and low performance at low relative humidity (RH). Therefore, we synthesized phosphonic acid functionalized polyaniline (PA-PANI). PANI was used as polymer back bone because of excellent chemical mechanical stability and easy synthesis from relatively cheap monomer, and phosphonic acid presents the relatively high proton conducting in nano-channel without water because of its self dissociation nature. PA-PANI was synthesized by bonding chemically with phosphonic acid groups using 3-bromopropylamine as a reagent. PA-PANI nano-channel membrane showed high and stable conductivities (approximately 0.035 S/cm at 80 to approximately 180 degrees C) under low RH. And PA-PANI nano-channel membranes compared with Nafion (10(-4) S/cm at < 30% RH), have higher proton conductivities. This fact showed phosphonic acid groups were more effective at low RH than sulfonic acid groups. Because the proton conductivity of Nafion decreases considerably at elevated temperature due to dehydration, our low cost membranes using phosphonic acid moiety may be expected to substitute sulfonic acid based-membranes such as Nafion.</P>
컴퓨터구조 : 중복 패리티 이미지 제거를 통한 RAID 5에서의 패리티 로깅 기법 성능 개선

RAID 5는 높은 성능과 신뢰성을 가지고 다양한 응용 분야에서 사용되지만 쓰기 작업시 성능이 저하되는 문제를 가지고 있다. 이러한 문제를 완화하기 위하여 패리티 로깅(parity logging) 기법이 제시된 바있다. 패리티 로깅 기법은 디스크로의 작은 크기의 임의의 블럭 단위 접근들을 큰 크기의 순차적인 트랙 단위 접근으로 변환하여 디스크 처리 시간을 줄이는 방법이다. 본 논문에서는 패리티 로깅 기법에서 디스크 버퍼의 패리티 이미지 중복 저장을 제거하여 패리티 갱신 오버헤드를 줄이는 방법을 설명하고 그에 대한 간략한 분석 모델과 시뮬레이션 결과를 제시하였다. While a RAID 5 disk arrays offer advantages of performance and reliability on wide variety of applications, they suffer from the performance degradation with write jobs. To reduce the effect of this problem, parity logging scheme was suggested. This scheme reduces disk busy time by transforming many small random accesses into large sequential accesses. This paper presents a new parity logging technique which prevents parity update image from redundant storing in the disk buffer and reduces parity maintenance overhead. A analytical model and several simulation results of our proposed scheme are presented.

Focal myositis is an uncommon benign inflammatory myopathy of unknown cause affecting skeletal muscle, and presenting as a localized painful swelling within the soft tissue of an extremity. According to some reports, focal myositis may occur in patients with rheumatoid arthritis, sarcoidosis, and other connective tissue diseases. To our knowledge, there has been no case report of focal myositis associated with rheumatoid arthritis. We report first case of focal myositis in a patient with rheumatoid arthritis.
