        Real-World National Colonoscopy Volume in Korea: A Nationwide Population-Based Study over 12 Years

        Background/Aims: Little is known about the national colonoscopy volume in Asian countries. This study aimed to assess the national colonoscopy volume in Korea over a 12-year period on the basis of a nationwide population-based database. Methods: We conducted a population-based study for colonoscopy claims (14,511,158 colonoscopies performed on 13,219,781 patients) on the basis of the Korean National Health Insurance Service database from 2002 to 2013. The 12-year national colonoscopy burden was analyzed according to patient age, patient sex, and healthcare facility type. Results: The overall volume of colonoscopy increased 8-fold over the 12-year period. The annual colonoscopic polypectomy rate significantly increased in all patient sex and age groups over the 12-years period (all p<0.001). The yearly colonoscopic polypectomy rate for men was significantly increased compared with that for women (2.3% vs 1.7%, p<0.001) and for the screening-age group compared with that for the young-age group (2.0% vs 1.6%, p<0.001). The yearly colonoscopic polypectomy rate relative to the total colonoscopy volume significantly increased in primary, secondary, and tertiary facilities by 2.4%, 1.9%, and 1.4% during the 12-year period (all p<0.001). In addition, the annual colonoscopy volume covered by high-volume facilities significantly increased by 1.8% in primary healthcare facilities over the 12-year period (p<0.001). Conclusions: Healthcare resources should be prioritized to allow adequate colonoscopic capacity, especially for men, individuals in the screening-age group, and at primary healthcare facilities. Cost-effective strategies to improve the quality of colonoscopy may focus on primary healthcare facilities and high-volume facilities in Korea.

      • 脂肪組織에 있어서 Glucose-〔U〕-^14C의 脂質에의 編入에 대한 人蔘成分의 影響

        攝食 및 絶食狀態에서 또는 여기에 人蔘을 投與함으로써 脂肪組織에 있어서 glucose의 脂質生合成에의 利用이 어떻게 變動하는 가를 觀察하기 위하여 白蓼根의 methanol 抽出成分을 分離 乾燥하고 이것을 體重 100g當 5㎎ 을 生理的食監水 0.5㎖에 녹여서 쥐에게 4日間 注入하고 對照群에는 같은 量의 食監水만 投與해서 다시 이것들을 正常 攝食群과 24時間 絶食群으로 各各 나누어서 人蓼抽出物 또는 生理的食監水를 마지막 投與한 한 時間 뒤에 體重 100g當 glucose-(U)-^14C 4μC와 carrier로써 D-glucose 100㎎를 法入하고 3時間後에 腹腔內의 脂肪組織을 摘出하여 이의 脂質量과 이에 編入된 glucose의 放射性 炭素量을 測定하였다. 脂肪組織中의 脂質含量은 人蓼投與로써 攝食時에는 뚜렷한 增減이 없었으나 絶食時에 있어서 그 減少를 적게 하였다. 投與한 放射性 glucose는 脂肪組中의 脂質에 활발히 編入되었으며 또한 이것은 絶食狀態나 人蓼投與로써 變動하였다. 卽 放財性 glucose의 脂質에의 編入率은 攝食群에 비하여 絶食群에서 約 1.9倍로 높았으며, 여기에 人蓼을 投與한 攝食群에는 多少 增加의는 傾向이었으나 絶食群에서는 約 1.3倍로 若干 높았었다. 그러나 人蓼을 投與한 編入率은 人蓼을 投興하지 않는 絶食群의 그것에 比하여 約 3分의 1이나 낮은 값이었다. 脂肪組織에서의 이러한 현상들은 血淸脂質에 대해서도 유사한 경향을 나타내었다. To investigate effects of ginseng extract on the incorpcration of glucose-(U)-^14C into lipid of adipose tissue in rats, a methanol extract of the roots of dried ginseng was prepared. The extract was injected into the peritoneal cavity of rats in single daily dose of 5㎎ in 0.5㎖ of saline solution per body weight of 100gm for 4 days, and the control group was injected with 0.5㎖ of saline. The two groups were divided into the feeding and the fasting (24 hours). After one hour following the final administration of ginseng extract and saline respectively, all rats were injected with 4μCi of glucose-(U)-^14C mixed with 100gm of glucose, per body weight of 100gm. Three hours later, the amount of lipid content was checked, and the radioactivity of lipid ^14C was measure with gas flow counter. The lipid content of adipose tissue was not so notable increasing effect in the normal feeding with ginseng. However, under the fasting group, the decreasing rate of lipid content was minimized with ginseng administration. The utilization rate of glucose-(U)-^14C into lipid of adipose tissue showed a slight increase under a normal feeding with ginseng. However, it decreased under fasting with ginseng administration. These effects of ginseng administration in the adipose tissue appeared almost same effects in the rat serum.

        DAF 공정에서의 개체군수지에 의한 무기성 입자거동의 해석

        The behavior of Inorganic clay particles in DAF (dissolved air flotation) process was analyzed by employing PBT (population balance in turbulence). For floc size range of 100-400㎛, the value of the initial collision-attachment efficiency was about 0.3 corresponding relatively low value. It was found that DAF process should be carefully operated, especially, in summer season when the inorganic clay particles are much introduced into water source due to heavy rainwater in Korea.

      • D-Amino Acid Aminotransferase 활성보유 고온성미생물의 탐색 및 분류학적 특성 연구

        To acquire an industrially useful biocatalyst for the enzymatic synthesis and production of various D-amino acids, 1,300 thermophiles isolated from the soil of Korea were analyzed for D-amino acid aminotransferase (D-AAT) activity. The enzyme activity was found from 110 strains of isolated thermophiles revealing its wide occurrence in thermophiles. Enzyme activity and thermal stability of the D-AAT producers were compared. Finally we have selected four thermophiles as producers of potent biocatalysts for the D-amino acid production; two therrnophiles, Bacillus sp. LK-I and LK-2, having higher specific activity and two thermophiles, B. stearothermophilus KL-01 and Bacillus sp. KLS-0l, having higher thermal stability than the D-AAT producers. Taxonomic and physiological characteristics of the four isolated thermophiles were described herein.

        von Willebrand's disease (vWD) is the most common autosomal-dominant inherited disorder resulting from a quantitative or a qualitative defect of von Willebrand factor (vWF). The most diagnostic pattern is the combination of a prolonged bleeding time, a reduction in plasma vWF concentration, a parallel reduction in ristocetin cofactor activity, and reduced factor Ⅷ activity, In this case, ristocetin-induced platelet aggregation data were compatible with that of vWD. Bleeding times were prolonged over 4 minutes, vWF antigen levels were 45%. vWF ristocetin cofactor activities were 0~1% and factor Ⅷ levels were 31%, when compared to the normal control. We report the case of a family with vWD. characterized by a quantitative defect in vWF

      • Channel stamping 법으로 전이된 Cu pattern의 형상

        A matallo-organic solution was stamped from the channels of a polymer stamp onto a glass. The precursor solution consisted of copper 2-ethylhexanonate, 2-ethoxyethanol as a solvent and ethylene glycol to improve surface energies. The solution was deposited to the polymer stamp by spin coater. After drying the solution in channels of the stamp, the dried ink was transferred to a substrate by debonding from channels. The process parameters such as solution compositions and pressing methods were discussed experimentally to form a copper pattern whose morphology was excellent.

      • 생약 배합에 따른 탈모 방지 및 발모 촉진에 관한 연구

        본 연구에서 생약 추출물을 이용한 탈모 방지 및 발모 촉진에 대한 효과를 검증하고자 Norwood's V형 1명, Ⅵ형 1명, Ⅶ형 2명의 성인 남자 4명과 Ludwig's Ⅱ형의 여자 2명 모두 6명을 대상으로 8개월간 생약 도포와 복용을 동시에 실시하여 두피 변화와 발모 효과에 관찰하였다. 생약 추출물을 도포하고 복용한 이후, 탈모 수가 점차 줄어들고 있어 탈모 방지에 효과가 있는 것으로 나타났으며, 지정한 부위의 모발 생성을 찾아 볼 수 있었다. 도포 및 복용 실험 전 피검자들의 1㎠ 당 평균 모발수는 평균 150개의 모발이 생성되고 있는 정상인의 1/3 수준에도 이르지 못하는 약 44개였으나, 생약 추출물의 도포와 복용 실험에 들어간 지 3개월 후에는 두피 1㎠ 당 평균 약 57개로, 6개월 후에는 평균 약 88개로 각각 증가하였다. 도포 및 복용 후 발모로 인해 대인관계에 자신감을 느낄 수 있었으며, 미용에 관심을 더 갖게 되는 등 피검자들이 실험에 만족하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 현재 생약 추출물은 식품 개발과 함께 의약품, 향미료, 화장품, 염료 등 다양한 상품으로 개발되고 있듯이, 본 연구에 활용한 생약 추출물도 모근의 혈액 순환을 촉진시켜 건강한 두피 유지와 모발 생성, 미용 생체 활성 물질로 응용할 여지가 크다고 생각된다. This study was conducted to examine the effect of herb extract on hair loss prevention and hair growth promotion. Four baldheaded men and two partly baldheaded women were selected as the subjects of this study. After they took the herb medicine and sprayed the herb extractant, the change of hair and scalp condition, hair roots, the number of hairs, and thickness of hairs was examined. It appeared that the amount of hair loss decreased gradually and new thin hairs were generated after receiving the treatment. Before the treatment, the average number of hairs in 1㎠ was approximately 44, which was below one third of that of normal people who had about 150 hairs in the 1㎠. After spraying and taking the herb extract for three months, the average number of hairs increased to 57, and it increased to 88 after another three months. It gradually improved and finally maintained healthy condition. According to their response, they felt confident in personal relations due to hair generation and growth. They were also concerned about beauty more than before. More than half of them were satisfied with the treatment. As herb extracts have being developed as various products such as medicine, perfume, cosmetics, and dyes, the herb extract which was used in this study can be applied to maintenance of healthy scalp, generation of hair, and active materials for beauty.
