      • Induction of heme oxygenase-1 protects against podocyte apoptosis under diabetic conditions

        Heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) is an anti-oxidant enzyme normally upregulated in response to oxidant injury. Here we determined the role of HO-1 in podocyte apoptosis in glomeruli of streptozotocin-treated rats and in immortalized mouse podocytes cultured in media containing normal or high glucose. HO-1 expression, its activity, the ratio of Bax/Bcl-2 protein, and active caspase-3 fragments were all significantly higher in isolated glomeruli of diabetic rats and in high glucose–treated podocytes. These increases were inhibited by zinc protoporphyrin treatment of the rats or by HO-1 siRNA treatment of the podocytes in culture. The number of apoptotic cells was also significantly increased in the glomeruli of diabetic rats and in high glucose–treated podocytes. Inhibition of HO-1 accentuated the increase in apoptotic cells both in vivo and in vitro. Our findings suggest that HO-1 expression protects against podocyte apoptosis under diabetic conditions.

      • 머리염색이 인체에 미치는 영향

        일상생활에서 모발염색은 흔히 접할 수 있는 미용의 한 종류로 특히 젊은층을 중심으로 폭발적으로 유행하고 있다. 염색을 위항 사용하는 약제는 표백제와 발색제 등 각종 화학약품이 사용되고 있으나 이로 인한 건강장해에 대한 연구는 그리 많지 않다. 저자들은 염색이 인체의 모발건강에 미치는 영향을 파악하기 위하여 염색과 관련된 주관적 증상과 모발의 변화에 대한 실험적 연구를 시행하였다. 동국대학교 경주 캠퍼스 재학생 80명을 대상으로 설문조사를 시행하여 염색 유 ·무 및 염색 후에 경험한 증상에 대해 설문 조사하였고, 의과대학 재학생 46명을 대상으로 피부 반응 테스트를 실시하였다. 또한 염색 전후의 모발 탄성도를 측정하였고 모발의 상태를 파악하기 위해 전자 현미경검사를 실시하였다. 설문조사 결과 염색 전에 비하여 염색 후 안구혼탁, 안구건조, 시력저하, 발진 및 접촉성 피부염, 모발손상, 모근손상 등의 증상을 더 많이 경험한다고 호소하였다(p<0.05). 모발손상과 모근손상은 헤어드라이어 사용 빈도에 따라 증가하는 것으로 조사되었다(p<0.05). 피부반응검사에서 가려움증이 가장 많은 증상이었으며 이는 여성보다는 남성에서 높은 것으로 조사되었다. 염색 전후의 모발장력은 염색 전 134.5±10.37g, 염색 128.0±30.69g, 염색 이틀 후 112.5±19.69g으로 나타났다. 염색 전후의 모발의 전자현미경 케라틴 층이 현저히 감소하고 모발이 가늘어지는 차이를 보였다. 염색은 모발손상, 모발 케라틴 손상 및 모근 손상, 발진 및 접촉성 피부반응, 안구혼탁, 안구건조, 시력 저하를 유발한다. 따라서 염색약으로 인한 손상에 대한 주의와 예방이 필요하다고 생각한다. 예방대책으로 염색 전 피부테스트를 통한 적합성 여부를 판단하는 것이 필요하며 가급적 염색을 피하는 것이 좋을 것이다. 염색약에 발암물질이 포함되어있다는 보고도 있어 염색 제조사의 철저한 실험과 염색 물질의 선별이 염색으로 인한 부작용을 최소화하는데 중요한 역할을 할 것이다. Hair coloring has became one of the most popular cosmetic activities to younger generations during last decade. However, there are few studies on the health effect of widespread use of chemical dyes. This study was conducted to study the effects of hair coloring dye on hair and other systems. We conducted a questionnaire survey of 80 persons in Kyongju campus, Dongguk University. We have done open patch skin test on 46 medical students. We also conducted scanning electron microscopy to examine the hair strength and structure before and after hair coloring process. Injury of hair and hair bulb, contact dermatitis, turbid eyes, xerophthalmia, and poor visual acuity were the main symptoms complained after hair coloring (p<0.05). Injury of hair and hair bulb were increased by frequency of hair-dryer use(p<0.05). In open patch test, pruritus was complanined by more than half of the subjects. Mean strength of hairs before and after hair coloring was as follows; 134.5 (SD 10.37)g before hair coloring, 128.0 (SD 30.69)g immediately after hair coloring, and 112.5 (SD 19.69)g after two days. The scanning electron microscopic findings of hair surface before and after hair coloring showed decreased keratin layer and thinning of the hair. Hair coloring induces injury to hair, its keratin layer, and hair bulb as well as contact dermatitis, turbid eyes, xerophthalmia, and poor visual acuity. Therefore, we think that precaution is needed in use of hair coloring dye. To prevent complications induced by hair coloring dye, it is necessary, especially to those with allergy or skin disorders, to perform skin test before action and avoid hair coloring whenever possible. Longterm health effects of hairdye should be studied and manufacturing companies should try to minimize complications induced by hair coloring dye.

        실용음악 전공 학생들의 발성치료 전후 성대 및 음성 특성 비교

        Background and Objectives : Many students major in applied music singing have various difficulties in phonation when they sing or perform. But the studies about this cause are lack. The purpose of this study is whether singing voice therapy based on vocal music is effective or not to applied music singing students that have difficulties in phonation. Materials and Methods : Singing voice therapy program had been done to 8 students major in applied music singing during 7 weeks. We did laryngeal stroboscope, perceptual, acoustic and aerodynamic examination before and after singing voice therapy to this students. And we studied post examination results have differences or improvements compared to pre examination results. Results : Four male students don't have effective improvement after singing voice therapy but they shows slight improvement in aerodynamic examination values compared to pre examination values. Four female students shows improvement in aerodynamic examination values and pitch range increasing. Above all, one student's vocal nodules disappeared after singing voice therapy. Conclusion : Singing voice therapy based on music singing is very effective to the students major in applied music singing. Above all, their curriculum in applied music singing should include phonation training based on music singing before training perform and technic practices.

        This study proposes an optimized diffuser strake design that can improve driving performance for cars in high-speed driving mode. The speed of the vehicle is set to 160km/h, and the number of strake is set to 4, 6 and 8, and the angle of the diffuser is set to 4, 5 and 6 degrees. The arrangement of the strake is centered, edged and equally arranged. The optimized diffuser design induced with the Ansys Fluent analysis shows a drag coefficient of 16% less than the basic diffuser-free model at a diffuser angle of 6 degree, 8 strakes, and equal arrangement.

        An attempt of indicating al perspective for the systematic arrangement of studies on sports and politics was made examining the contents and method of preceding studies conies concerned. Main results are as follow; 1. The concrete domains of the study on sports and politics are classified into such five categories as sports policy sports and political ideology, political functions of sports, sports and social regime, and sports international relations. After indicating the problems to be solved in terms of the systematic arrangement of the studies in each category, they are mutually related and a guideline for the systematization of studies on sports and politics is presented. 2. Politics can basically be understood as policy which has a certain logical relation with public interests and power, for the analysis of mutual relation between sports and politics standing on the basic of policy it is inevitable to clarify the meaning of in fluence relation and function Especially logical improvement of the method of functional analysis is indispensable.

      • 췌장암 환자에서 알코올 내장신경 신경파괴블럭 후 발생한 간염

        Splanchnic neurolytic block(SNB) with alcohol improves the management of pancreatic cancer pain. Adverse effects of alcohol SNB which include regional pain, hypotension, diarrhea, and acute alcohol intoxication are common, but acute hepatitis caused by alcohol neurolytic block is rare. A 63-year-old patient with pancreatic head cancer and liver metastasis had complete pain relief after both retrocrural tansdiscal SNB with 100% alcohol 10 ml. But, 1 day later, liver function test showed a high elevation in the aspartate aminotransferase (AST, 2182 IU/L) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT, 1807 IU/L). The patient had slight jaundice, general weakness, chilling, nausea and vomiting after SNB. Both AST and ALT decreased to 46 and 119 IU/L within 10 days with only supportive therapy. But, 19 days later, the patient died due to pneumonia. Our case illustrates the importance of clinical surveillance especially in patient with hepatic disease after alcohol SNB.

      • 기성 콘크리트 파일 두부정리를 위한 자동화 장비의 개발

        During the last few years, the use of prefabricated concrete pile has been gradually increased in many construction sites. Cutting work of the concrete pile is an important task to crush a part of pile head which is compressed with more than 800㎏/㎠, It is usually performed by a crusher and three to four skilled workers. Recent analysis results of the pile cutting work reveal that it frequently makes a lot of cracks which significantly reduce the strength of the pile and is labor-intensive work. The primary objective of this study is to propose conceptual designs for developing an automated pile cutting machine. It is anticipated that the development of the automated pile cutting machine would be able to bring improvements in safety, productivity, quality as well as cost saving.

        대기압 플라즈마 처리를 통한 PU-g-PAAc Foam의 제조

        대기압 플라즈마 처리 및 AAc 그라프팅을 통해 PU foam(10PPI)의 표면을 개질 하였다. 대기압 플라즈마 처리로 PU foam의 표면에 peroxides를 충분히 생성시킨 후 AAc 액상 그라프팅 반응으로 carboxyl group을 갖는 PU foam을 제조하였다. PU foam에 많은 양의 peroxides를 도입하기 위해 플라즈마 rf-power와 처리 시간을 조절하여 AAc 그라프팅을 통한 GD의 변화로 최적 조건을 조사하였다. 대기압 플라즈마 반응기의 최적 조건은 GD의 변화를 통해 rf-power 100W, 처리시간 100초임을 알 수 있었다. 다음으로 다양한 그라프팅 조건(온도, 농도, 반응시간)에 따른 GD의 변화를 살펴보았다. GD는 온도가 올라감에 따라 대체적으로 증가하였고, 반응 시간이 증가함에 따라서는 3시간까지 증가하다가 그 후로는 일정한 값을 나타내었다. 또한 저 농도의 AAc에서는 GD가 상당히 낮았으며, 60-70%의 농도에서 최대값을 나타내었다. 개질된 PU foam의 carboxyl group들은 FT-IR을 이용하여 정성적으로 확인하였고, 정량적인 분석으로 무게측정법을 사용하였다. 또한 근접촬영사진을 통해 그라프팅 반응 전후에 나타난 PU foam 표면의 구조 변화를 살펴보았다. 끝으로, 난백에 있는 단백질과 Lysozyme을 PU foam 표면에 고정화시켜 이온교환수지로서의 가능성 여부를 평가하였다. We successfully modified the surface of PU(Polyurethane) foam(10 PPI) through atmospheric pressure plasma treatment and subsequent grafting of AAc(acrylic acid). The plasma treatment can generate large amount of peroxides on the surface of PU foam and the peroxide groups act as initiators for further grafting of AAc in the monomer solution. To introduce large amount of peroxides on the surface of PU foam, we studied the effect of plasma rf-power and treatment time on the maximum grafting of AAc. Through this study, we found that the optimum rf-power was 100W and the optimum treatment time was 100sec. On the other hand, we also studied the effect of graft reaction conditions such as temperature, monomer concentration and reaction time on the change of grafting degree(GD). The GD increased with temperature and increased with reaction time before it leveled off at 3hr after reaction. At low concentration of AAc, the GD was very low but it showed the maximum at the monomer concentration between 60% and 70%. The surface of the modified PU foam was qualitatively and after plasma induced graft co-polymerization through photo and SEM analysis. Finally, we confirmed the immobilization of Lysozyme through the electrophoresis analysis of proteins, which were recovered by the PY-g-PAAc foam from egg white.

        벼 재배양식에 따른 규산질 비료 추비 사용 효과

        본 시험은 벼 도복을 경감시키기 위한 재배대책을 강구하기 위하여 광안벼를 공시하고, 이앙재배와 담수직파재배에서 규산질 비료를 사용함에 따른 도복경감효과를 조사하였던 바 그 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1. 간장은 담수표면직파재배에서 규산시용구가 무처리보다 3.1cm 감소하여 3.7%가 단축되었으며, 기계이앙재배에서는 규산시용구가 무처리보다 5cm 감소하여 5.5% 단축되었다. 2. 하위절간장은 담수표면직파재배에서 규산시용구가 무처리보다 3.1cm 감소하여 36.9% 단축되었으며, 기계이앙재배에서는 규산시용구가 무처리보다 1.2cm 감소하여 11% 단축되었다. 3. 좌절중은 담수표면직파에서 규산시용구가 73g이 증가하여 35.2%의 증가율을 보였고, 기계이앙재배에서는 규산시용구가 37.3g 증가하여 9.6%의 증가율을 보였다. 4. 수량은 담수표면직파재배에서 규산시용구가 무처리보다 30kg이 많아 6.4%의 증수효과를 나타내었고, 기계이앙재배에서는 규산시용구가 무처리보다50kg이 많아 9%의 증수효과를 나타내었다. This study was carried out to examine the responses of growth and lodging of rice as affected by both two cropping practices, transplanting and direct seeding in waterlogging, and different application amounts of silicate fertilizers. The Kwangan cultivar of Japonica type was used, the growths including culm and internode lengths and grain yield were investigated in major growth stages and harvest time. The culm length in waterlogging direct seeding was reduced in treatments of silicate fertilizers, about 3.7%, compared to that in the control and it was reduced to 5.5% in the transplanting cultivation. The breaking strength of lower internodes of rice were increased to 35.2% and 9.6% by applying of silicate fertilizers in the water direct seeding and in the transplanting cultivations, respectively. The rice yields were increased with application of silicate fertilizers in both water direct seeding and transplantingcultivations compared to those of the control, about 6.4% and 9.0%, respectively.
