The present study was conducted to compare antioxidant activity of Cuscutae Semen, Psoraleae Fructus, Cnidii Fructus and Epimedii Herba by DPPH radical scavenging activity. The extract was studied using diphenyl-picryl-hydrazyl (DPPH) for DPPH method. DPPH radical scavenging activity was measured after. .10, 20 and 30 minutes. The extract was tested by 1, 5, 10, 50, 100, 500 and $1000{\mu}g/ml$ concentrations. The results showed that the extract scavenged DPPH radical with time-dependent manner. Also, the extract showed dose-dependent DPPH radical scavenging activity. The extract of Cuscutae Semen, Psoraleae Fructus, Cnidii Fructus and Epimedii Herba scavenged DPPH radical with the IC50 being 2.7, 3.2, 2.9 and 1.1 mg/ml, respectively. In conclusion, the extract of Epimedii Herba, Cuscutae Semen, Cnidii Fructus and Psoraleae Fructus have antioxidant activity for the treatment of male sterility.
동결 건조법을 이용한 옥천산 캡슐 제형 개발에 관한 연구

Objective : Okchun-San(OCS) is known as an effective herbal medicine on Type 2 diabetes. We performed to change OCS formulation for freeze drying capsulation. Methods The mixtures of OCS were extracted with water. finally, the filtered solution were evaporated and lyophilized to dry granules. The various ratio of excipients were studied to determine the formation for capsulizing. The samples were inspected for any difference in color, taste and appearance. Results: The prepared form of OCS were dried and weighted 260kg. The lyophilized dry powder yielding 40kg. The suitable ratio of OCS-dry powder and excipient was 10:1. The average weights of On and placebo capsules were $440{\pm}5.28mg$, $465{\pm}7.95mg$, respectively. There was no notable change in color and appearance for both capsuled samples throughout the study period. Conclusions: Therefore in can be concluded that freeze drying capsulation is appropriate form of OCS.

The purpose of this study is to examine the protective effect of Cynomorii herba on $H_2O_2$-induced cytotoxicity in male germ cells. The effects were studied by a modified MTT assay. Hydrogen peroxide significantly induced cytotoxicity in GC-1 spg cells, and co-treatment or pre-treatment of Cynomorii herba extract has reduced the cytotoxicity in a dose dependant manner. These results suggest that Cynomorii herba extract increases the survival rate of GC-1 spg cells through the antioxidant effect against $H_2O_2$-induced cytotoxicity.

Objectives: The present study investigated the anti-nociceptive and anti-inflammatory properties of the water extract of Geranii Herba (The stem and leaves of Geranium thunbergii Sieb. et Zucc.) in the animal models of pain and inflammation. Methods: We evaluated the anti-nociceptive and anti-inflammatory activities of Geranii Herba extract (GHE) using the writhing test, tail-flick test, carrageenan-induced paw edema and xylene-induced ear edema models. Two dose of GHE (100 and 1000mg/kg) was administrated orally to the mice. Control group received normal saline and ibuprofen (50mg/kg) was used as a positive control drug. Results: GHE 1000mg/kg treated group showed an increased tail-flick response time in the tail-flick test and inhibitory effect on writhing syndrome induced by acetic acid. Treatment with GHE at the same dose inhibited ear edema induced by xylene and foot edema induced by carrageenan toxicity. Conclusion: The results demonstrate that GHE has anti-nociceptive and anti-inflammatory effects in the various models of nociception and inflammation.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of water extract of Dioscoreae Rhizome on the reproduction activity of Wistar male rat. The group treated with 1.0 g/kg/day oral administrations of water extract of Dioscoreae Rhizoma (SK0l6) during 8 weeks was compared with the normal group. Sperm count, sperm motility, body weight, and testis weight were investigated in two groups. Sperm count. body weight, and testis weight of two groups did not show the significant difference. But sperm motility of the treated group was reduced significantly (the normal group: 56.43 %, SK0l6 group: 53.47 %, p < 0.05). According to the results, SK0l6 have no effects on sperm count, body weight. and testis weight but reduced sperm motility significantly.

The Dangguibohyel-tang (DBT) was used to treat anemia in traditional Korean medicine. Acute oral toxicity of DBT was studied in ICR mice. ICR mice were administered orally with dosages of 100 mg/kg (low dosage group), 200 mg/kg (middle dosage group), and 400 mg/kg (high dosage group) of DBT. We daily examined number of deaths, clinical signs, body weights and gross findings for 14 days. DBT did not show any toxic effect in ICR mice and oral LD50 value was over 400 mg/kg in ICR mice.
