In order to study the influence of a 6′-methyl group in ring C of griseofulvin (1_) on the fungicidal activity, 6′-methyl group was replaced with a larger phenyl group as (±)-6′-phenylgriseofulvin (3_), (±)-6′-epiphenylgriseofulvin (4_), synthesized by a Diels-Alder cycloaddition. Their biological activities were examined against Botrytis allii (IFO 9430) and B. cinerea (AHU 9573). (±)-6′-Phenylgriseofulvin (3_) showed high activity in 25 ㎍/disc.

To discriminate the oriental medicine correctly, it is important to use the original raw material for medicine. However, many raw materials for oriental medicine have problems from argument about the original vs. imitation to mixing of inferior materials. Even though all kinds of discrimination methods are used in reality until now, they still fall short of one's expectation. At the same time, although there are active research related to preservation and usage of the raw medicine materials, the most important thing is to ensure the technology that can select the right material with right origin to discriminate the grade. Since plant discrimination is related to selecting the origin of raw materials, it has important role in deciding the grade of the medicine. Considering the reality in deciding the origin, names of the categories should be regulated accurately. However there are items marked as 'the others with same species' or 'the others with similar species' or items with no clear origin or name. Since the genuineness of the standardized oriental medicine should be distinguished at least, it is necessary to develop scientific and accurate test methods that can be used as reference information of raw material other than basic material test lists. This study suggests the standardization in discrimination of raw oriental medicine material using Cervi Parvum Cornu, Artemisiae Capillaris Herba, Astragali Radix and Fritillaria Thunbergii Bulb to establish systematical discrimination method and by using different molecular biological techniques in developing different kinds of genetic techniques for each material.

In order to study of safety, Hwanggum(黃芩) aqua-acupuncture was prepared by boiling extract and filtration. This study was performed to determine the toxic effects of graded dose levels and effects of Scutellaria Root after repeated administration(14days). From these results, Hwanggum(黃芩) aqua-acupuncture was quite sag in male and female rats.

Although applying herbal medicines by their precise discrimination is a crucial issue, numerous herbal medicines accommodate problems in reality starting from the confusion between identifying the true and false medicine to its distribution mixed with poor products. Therefore, this study aims to establish basic techniques for the fundamental studies of herbal medicine through development of a technique to discriminate herbal medicines by using their molecular-biological characteristics, furthermore identify the origins of respective herbal medicines, and create a genetic method actually applicable on the subjected herbal medicines sold in market places. The subject medicines in this study were Cervi Parvum Cornu, Bupleuri Radix, and Artemisiae Apiacea Herba. Recently, the deer species, Cervus species often cause some problems depending on commercial trade. For this reason, the D-loop sequence was amplified for species-distribution through commercial Russian and China. B. longiradiatum is known as species harmful to the human body because it has bupleurotoxin and acetylbupleurotoxin, which are toxic substances. Therefore, B. longiradiatum is a plant that should not be used as medicine. We were examined species-specific marker for determining B. longiradiatum. As for Artemisiae apicea, one of the Artemisiae plants difficult to discriminate in dried up states, its specific marker was searched for also through SCAR analysis.
