96년 ISO 14001 국제규격의 개발과 동시에 우리나라에서도 본격적인 환경경영시스템 인증제도가 시작되어, 기업경영에서 환경문제에 대한 적극적인 고려가 가시화되기 시작했다. 한편, 최근 사회적으로 환경에 대한 인식이 증가하면서 환경경영시스템 도입을 통해 이러한 인식에 부응하여 다양한 경영성과를 기대하는 조직의 요구도 커지고 있는 상황이다. 조직의 관점에서 경영성과란 결국 조직의 수익창출에 기여할 수 있는 성과를 거두는 것이기 때문에 환경경영시스템이 추구하는 목적은 환경영향의 저감을 통해 이러한 효과를 달성코자 하는 것이다. 이와 관련하여 본 연구에서는 조직이 발생시키는 환경영향의 요인, 즉 환경측면과 그 파악방법에 대한 이해를 통해 환경경영시스템의 효과 제고를 모색코자 한다.
경막 내 colistimethate 투여로 치료한 다제 내성 cinetobacter baumannii 뇌실염

Acinetobacter species is a non-fermentative aerobic gram-negative coccobacillus that is an important pathogen found in nosocomial infections. Recently, multi-drug resistant Acinetobacter baumannii (MDR-AB) infections have been increasing and pose a serious problem. Most such infections present as bacteremia, pneumonia, or a wound infection; however, CNS infections are very rare. We herein present a case of ventriculitis caused by MDR-AB in a 37-year old man after a neurosurgical intervention. The patient was successfully treated with intrathecal colistimethate.
국내산 과일 및 채소 추출물을 이용한 체중 조절 관련 기능성 식품소재 탐색

Obesity can be defined as a disorder of lipid metabolism and the control of this process is regulated by enzymes involved in lipid metabolic pathway. Obesity is also characterized increases in the number and size of adipocyte differentiated from fibroblastic pre-adipocytes in adipose tissue. The aim of this study was to screen ethanol extracts of 21 fruits and vegetables cultivated in Republic of Korea for identifying natural sources of lipase inhibitor and to investigate the effects of several extracts resulting in suppression of triglyceride (TG) accumulation in 3T3-L1 cells. Among the tested extracts, Diospyros kaki L. showed the highest contents of total sugar and the content of total phenolic compounds was detected 17 species while there was not detected in Ixeris dentate root and Allium fistulosum C. etc. We were screened 26 extracts of fruits and vegetables for pancreatic lipase inhibitory activity compared with orlistat. The strongest lipase inhibitory activities were shown by extract of Allium sativum L. stem, Allium sativum L. bulb, Apteryx australis, Diospyros kaki L. Malus Pumila, Perilla frutescens and Prunus mume regardless of concentrations treated. Eight extracts including Brassica juncea var. integrilolia had no effect on lipase inhibition. During the differentiation of 3T3-L1 preadipocyte to mature adipocyte, the cells were treated with carrier or 7 extracts(1, 5 and 10 ㎍/ml), which was shown to highest lipase inhibitory effects. We were quantified lipid contents secreted mature adipocytes and stained with Oil Red O. All cells treated with the Apteryx australis and Prunus mume significantly decreased TG contents than the control. These findings suggested that the screened fruit and vegetable could be a promising source as the effective and safe lipase inhibitors for isolating bioactive ingredients and developing functional foods.
분만 후 심한 저혈당이 동반된 림프구성 뇌하수체염 1예의 경과 관찰

저자들은 출산 후 발생한 심한 저혈당을 주소로 내원한 31세 여자 환자에서 뇌 자기공명영상검사에서 뇌하수체종괴가 관찰되고 복합 뇌하수체 기능검사 결과전반적인 뇌하수체 기능저하증의 소견을 보여 림프구성 뇌하수체염을 진단하고, 호르몬 보충요법만으로 경과를 관찰하여 호전된 예를 경험하였기에 문헌 고찰과 함께 보고하는 바이다. Lymphocytic hypophysitis, an inflammatory disease of the pituitary gland that is often associated with pregnancy, is caused by autoimmune destruction of the pituitary gland evidenced by diffuse inflammatory cell infiltration of the pituitary gland and some kinds of detectable autoantibodies. We report a case of lymphocytic hypophysitis in a 31-year-old woman presenting with severe hypoglycemia and hyponatremia after delivery. Hormonal study revealed panhypopituitarism and magnetic resonance imaging with enhancement showed the bulging contour of the right side pituitary gland with an ill-defined mass-like lesion and nodular thickening of the stalk The patient's symptoms and biochemical data improved greatly with replacement of L-thyroxine and glucocorticoid. Partial recovery of panhypopituitarism was also seen. The follow-up tests revealed dramatic resolution of the pituitary lesion (J Kor SOC Endocrinol 1 8 : 3 25 -33 1, 2003).
Metabolic Engineering for Resveratrol Derivative Biosynthesis in Escherichia coli

We previously reported that the SbROMT3syn recombinant protein catalyzes the production of the methylated resveratrol derivatives pinostilbene and pterostilbene by methylating substrate resveratrol in recombinant E. coli. To further study the production of stilbene compounds in E. coli by the expression of enzymes involved in stilbene biosynthesis, we isolated three stilbene synthase (STS) genes from rhubarb, peanut, and grape as well as two resveratrol O-methyltransferase (ROMT) genes from grape and sorghum. The ability of RpSTS to produce resveratrol in recombinant E. coli was compared with other AhSTS and VrSTS genes. Out of three STS, only AhSTS was able to produce resveratrol from p-coumaric acid. Thus, to improve the solubility of RpSTS, VrROMT, and SbROMT3 in E. coli, we synthesized the RpSTS, VrROMT and SbROMT3 genes following codon-optimization and expressed one or both genes together with the cinnamate/4-coumarate:coenzyme A ligase (CCL) gene from Streptomyces coelicolor. Our HPLC and LC-MS analyses showed that recombinant E. coli expressing both ScCCL and RpSTSsyn led to the production of resveratrol when p-coumaric acid was used as the precursor. In addition, incorporation of SbROMT3syn in recombinant E. coli cells produced resveratrol and its mono-methylated derivative, pinostilbene, as the major products from p-coumaric acid. However, very small amounts of pterostilbene were only detectable in the recombinant E. coli cells expressing the ScCCL, RpSTSsyn and SbROMT3syn genes. These results suggest that RpSTSsyn exhibits an enhanced enzyme activity to produce resveratrol and SbROMT3syn catalyzes the methylation of resveratrol to produce pinostilbene in E. coli cells.
Alpha-lipoic Acid Protects Neuronal Cells from Ethanol-induced Neurotoxicity

Ethanol exposure has various toxic effects on the human nervous system results in various developmental and behavioral deficits. Present studies showed the protective effect of alpha-lipoic acid (LA), a potent natural anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory molecule against various brain toxins. Since LA has attracted more attention for its anti-apoptotic properties, we investigated the neuroprotective efficacy of LA in EtOH-treated SH-SY5Y human neuroblastoma cells. The cell death was evaluated by MTT assay, morphological assessment. EtOH induced neuronal cell death in a time- and dose-dependent manner. The cell death examined was increased and the apoptotic morphological features, including retraction of neuritis, cell shrinkage, and membrane blebbing were induced by EtOH. However, in the cells treated with LA for 1h and exposed to EtOH the EtOH-induced neuronal cell death was significantly attenuated in a dose-dependent manner. The LA effectively inhibited SH-SY5Y cell death and apoptotic morphological changes in the cells induced by EtOH. Our results indicate that pretreatment with LA interrupts EtOH-induced apoptotic morphological change, and suggest that some of the protective effects of LA and other antioxidants likely involve classical antioxidant actions by EtOH-related brain damages and nerve injuries by oxidative stress which causes apoptosis.
